[Q] Two questions - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First of all, is there some way to save a list of what I have installed right now so that I can restore the phones apps without using backups?
Second, what exactly is the sleep of death and how bad is it?
Should it be bad enough to deter me from an ICS install?
How do you recover from it?

[Q] Notification Drawer Toggling of Mobile Data/Sync

I've seen on the xda forums that some people have 'extra' toggling buttons at the top of their notification drawer(hope it's the correct term, 1st three months as Android OS user), My friend's S3 has them by default too, does the Note have it? or is there a need for root/custom launcher; since S3 has a newer rev of the Touchwiz Launcher. If possible, i would like to avoid rooting!
What the phone currently has, from stock is just 5 buttons at the top, which are Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, Profile, Screen Rotation, Power Saving.
Wish to add: Mobile Data toggle/ Sync toggle (dunno if there's any more available)
something like this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=1620625
^yeap, that's it. but i have a query, it's my first time with an android phone, barely used for 4 months.
i don't get wat's flashing with CWM; does that require root? what exactly is CWM, apart from the full name?
does flashing that mod = voiding my warranty like what rooting does?
Bump. Anyone knows why the note doesn't have it o.o

You can use some app from playstore for extra toggles if you do not want to root but flashing this mod requires root and cwm.
If you are rooted, you can have 15 toggles without having cwm, here is a small guide- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30668303

To root your phone, you could simply flash a safe rooted kernel like Odin version hydracore through ODIN.
You will get yellow triangle and increased counter. But you can reset it easily with triangle away app by chain fire.A simple search would bring it up....

Thanks for the above confirmations/help provided.
One last query, how do I backup my current settings? I suppose the sequence is root, backup and then apply mod?

Bump!
Question in my above post in unanswered :x

when u root and apply a safe kernel like hydracore or speedmod.. u will get cwm thru which u can backup the ROM using the nandroid backup feature.
The best start is to get Rooted first.. then install the 15 toggles you want.. search threads and you will find a lot with different shapes and themes

Tab Without OS

I am looking at a Verizon Tab i800 that appears to not have an operating system installed. How would this happen? Is this as easy to fix as rooting through Heimdal and then installing CM9 and GAPPS? Anyone ever see anything like this?

I don't know if it's possible but, if it can go into download mode, it should not be a problem.

??
You mean you purchased a non-functional tab and you want to know how to fix it?
That depends on what is wrong with it, it would help if you actually gave any relevant info like if you can go into download or recovery mode etc?
If yes then simply flash the kernel/rom you want, done!
If not then go read some topics, there are plenty of "tab cant boot" topics about, no need for us to just repeat questions/answers.

Removing system apps: cannot root

I have recently Restored my N1 from an ICS ROM and am back on Gingerbread 2.3.6.
I am wanting to remove some system apps but I cannot for the life of me find out how to root the N1.
Much googling has lead me to dead ends and dead links and I feel I am missing something really obvious that everyone else but me knows.
The guides I have found on rooting all appear to involve custom ROMs which I don't want at the moment.
The bootloader is still unlocked and I know at some point in the past I did have the device rooted on gingerbread but I can't remember how?
try www.unlockroot.com

Is that a trusted source?
Yes It is.

Yep, that worked
Thanks.
If I may be so bold... what would be the best app to use to actually remove the system apps?
I have used one in the past but found that when I removed anything it would shut off the nexus completely and not actually remove anything.
use titanium backup. it would be safe to hv a backup via a custom recovery, before removing system apps...

Don't worry,I backed up quite a few ROMs and they usually take about 15-30mins(depends on the size)So I guess it is perfectly normal. In 6.0 they also changed how they back it up so that might be the cause.I'm not sure Cuz I'm no expert.

You are right. CWM 6 takes about twice as long to backup in the DUP mode. If you want youcan set it back to TAR mode and the time wil get back to normal
