Hey all i was wondering what modem will be compatible with Straight Talk. Since Straight Talk runs on the ATT network i am guessing i would be needing an ATT modem. My tab is a tmobile branded tab and it is rooted and unlocked. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you implement the roto modem switch you can have voice with one modem, and data with the other, but all you can expect is 2g/EDGE data.

oh, so what 2 modems would you recommend i use with the modem switcher?
The two that are in the download. The script that is used to switch and flash the modems refers to those two modems, and won't run if you use other modems. The modems are the best choice for a t-mobile tab.

Ahhh ok i got it, i did try it and it seem to work but i really have to test outside as i dont get good signal at home, i want to get it set up so i can give it to my wife as i am using the new 7.7, if only the original tmobile tab had been capable of working properlly when it first came out.

Could I request that someone make a sticky in the dev section with a collection of all the modems available for the tab. We have one in the captivate section and it's extremely useful.

I am looking into doing that. A collection of flashable zip modems in CWM recovery thanks to Alterbridge. In the process of collecting modems.
Awesome. I have a question. My tab refuses to get 3g or hsdpa. It does just fine it ottawa where I am from but doesn't in other places. I soul just chalk it up to the network but both of my captivates get 3g and hsdpa in the same area. In the process of trying as many modems as I can now.
Any explanations would be appreciated.
Running the l latest overcome.

I'm looking for US Cellular modem for the tab. Anyone? Any help is greatly appreciated!
@Beny check the apn settings. If they are empty. Get them and put them in. Your carrier should have it.
Will soon post the thread just need to get permissions and collect more modems.

Didn't think to check that but after checking, all devices are on the same apn and still no change. Tab only picks up edge.
Would love to get my hands on whatever modem the rogers tab comes with.

Benny,
That is a good idea, Rogers might bring a different result.

Flashed my t mobile tab to 2.3.3 and have been trying to find a modem that will actually give me decent service. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1069727 I've tried all the modems on the above link and none of them provide service like the stock t mobile modem. The stock modem will be at four bars -85 dBa and the most I can get with the other modems is -99 in the same spot.
is this behavior normal with the t mobile tab

I think the problem is that the t-mobile modem is the only modem that accepts the t-mobile usa bands required for a good signal, the other modems like the ones to make and receive phone calls are from other countries, with different bands being used causing a poor signal, I also have the same problem that you are, in my house with t-mobile modem I get full signal and 3g, with any other modem I have tried I get about 1-2 bars at most inside my house with 2g or E as it is referred as. Please do not quote me on this information, it may be incorrect. This is just what I have figured out on my own. Hopefully one day we will get a correct modem for 3g data and phone calling together to stop this issue.

Figured out the issue with poor service. Use phone modems not tab modems. I'm using an i9000 modem and signal is through the roof.

Hi,
Just trying to find the best modem to use in Melbourne or the best one for virgin.
I'm currently on JVT I can't get more then 2 bars while at home.
Any help will be great.
I'm in Canberra on TPG (optus) and the best one I've used is 19000XXJVE.
I've tried about 20 in the past and this one has good battery and reception. Not sure if it will suit your situation though.
I used the app "Perka's File Stash" to download and flash a bunch of different modems. Which led to the one im using.
Cheers that's what I'm doing also but just thought it would be easier to ask then downloading and testing them all out.
Thanks anyway.
Anyone tried and test any good modems that work good in melb?

Just an update I'm now using ZWJV4 and it works a lot better. I get between 3-4 bars at home and around town full reception.

Like the subject says... if someone can point me in the right direction, it would be appreciated. Not at all sure where to start. I can run pretty much whatever Cappy kernel & ROM I want, including different modems. Just wondering what the technical issues & tasks would be. And, of course, I'd need to know which, if any, non AT&T networks would work on the Cappy.
The Captivate will work on T-mobile, but because of the frequencies used by T-mobile u can only get the Edge on their network.
As far as other non att networks, u will just have to search and see what frequencies they use and then compare that to what the Cappy runs on.

The phone must be unlocked, and you can do that for free here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=761045
When you SIM unlock it, it can work on any gsm carrier like AT&T, T-Mobile, Vodafone, and most other international carriers
I am running it on T-Mobile but it only gets Edge.
If you perform a sim unlock your can always put it on a mvno like Straight Talk or Red Pocket. You can use HSPA on those instead of slow edge.

It's been awhile since I looked at modem particulars as well as goodies in LBS Test Mode, but IIRC, can't we specify bands and frequencies if need be, if the modem allows?

Hey all I have a rather Noob question for the Galaxy Tab (p1) people.
So what is the difference in the roms for all the different tabs? I see a lot for the P1000, P1C, P1N etc etc.
Anyway I just got this tab from a buddy and I would like to get it off of froyo. He said that he had it on CM7 or something like that but revereted it to stock before he sold it to me. Anyway it is rooted, but has stock recovery, and froyo......
I would like to get it to the most recent stable CM available. It's going to my wife and I'm not going to be able to touch it again...... I have my TouchPad and GS3 to play with.
anyway I haven't seen any good guides on how to get this beast updated so could you please point me in the right direction, I've been searching but probably in the wrong places.
thanks.
Steve
The difference is where the tabs are from. Ex. P1000 is europe (gsm), p1000L is latin america, P1000c or P1C is usa- verizon/sprint(cdma). I dont remember the t-mo type. T-mo is gsm though. To find the right cyanogen mod rom type in the model. The verizon tab is sch-i800. should be on the back of the tab. Have fun.

I have a sgh-t849.
Treat it like a P1000 especially if you aren't going to use it with T-Mobile network.
If you do, beware that you only get 3G with t-mobile modem and no voice call.
Or you can use JPZ modem to get voice call but only 2G.
Follow overcome guide in my signature to get you going.
