Hi,
Just trying to find the best modem to use in Melbourne or the best one for virgin.
I'm currently on JVT I can't get more then 2 bars while at home.
Any help will be great.
I'm in Canberra on TPG (optus) and the best one I've used is 19000XXJVE.
I've tried about 20 in the past and this one has good battery and reception. Not sure if it will suit your situation though.
I used the app "Perka's File Stash" to download and flash a bunch of different modems. Which led to the one im using.
Cheers that's what I'm doing also but just thought it would be easier to ask then downloading and testing them all out.
Thanks anyway.
Anyone tried and test any good modems that work good in melb?

[CM7/MIUI/ICS/CM9][06.01.12] Modems + Bootloaders(MD5)
Just an update I'm now using ZWJV4 and it works a lot better. I get between 3-4 bars at home and around town full reception.

So my gf just got a new captivate, and its running 2.2 and she says dropping a ton of calls, and that she has weak signal alot and so on....
my question is should I swap the modem ( shes on stock) from the KB1 or what ever to like the JH3 ?
OR should I return it and get a new one?
What are the chances the phone is hardware defective vs modem troubles?
They tried to fix problems with 2.2 and they just created more. Try switching the modem. I havent been messing with stuff lately, Ive been pulling my hair out with at&t's return center. Try KP1. But make sure the phone is rooted before you do this.

Thanks. I think i had good luck with JK4/JK3
people say modems work better in some areas then others, is there a "modem map" or something that says this works better here and that better there, ect?
No haha i guess people are too lazy to coordinate a country wide effort for modems lol.

Flashed my t mobile tab to 2.3.3 and have been trying to find a modem that will actually give me decent service. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1069727 I've tried all the modems on the above link and none of them provide service like the stock t mobile modem. The stock modem will be at four bars -85 dBa and the most I can get with the other modems is -99 in the same spot.
is this behavior normal with the t mobile tab

I think the problem is that the t-mobile modem is the only modem that accepts the t-mobile usa bands required for a good signal, the other modems like the ones to make and receive phone calls are from other countries, with different bands being used causing a poor signal, I also have the same problem that you are, in my house with t-mobile modem I get full signal and 3g, with any other modem I have tried I get about 1-2 bars at most inside my house with 2g or E as it is referred as. Please do not quote me on this information, it may be incorrect. This is just what I have figured out on my own. Hopefully one day we will get a correct modem for 3g data and phone calling together to stop this issue.

Figured out the issue with poor service. Use phone modems not tab modems. I'm using an i9000 modem and signal is through the roof.

There are a lot of Rom's out there, stock or not. We've seen Semaphore, CF-root and Galaxian.
But what about the poor old Modem?!
Does latest mean best, or simply latest?
What's the best modem you've used for I9000 2.2/2.3?
Main points to qualify with;
- Battery usage
- Signal quality / strength
- GPS
- Country and carrier (Thanks Slaphead20)
- other!
Vote away! I've tried to include all those i've heard of being good, I know there's another thread over at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876391
but I though a big poll for couldn't hurt.

JVO is the best for me, plainly because the signal didn't always drop like the newest ones.
Jvq or jpy

For me hands down JV6.
Best call clarity that I've used. Love the battery life and GPS Lock too!
Every modem I've tried was better in one area or another, but JV6 gives me the best balance of them all, and I'm really liking the results...

JPY and JVQ were good modems for me, as far as I can remember.
But to be fair, the experience is vastly different between regions, countries, and carriers, or we wouldn't have all those different modems.
Now I'm testing JVS and JVT, and so far JVT seems like a good modem in terms of balance.
vote for DXJV9.
Good signal & easy to Lock GPS
Kind of pointless thread as modem performance is related to area/carrier/terrain etc!

Valid point.
But you gotta admit, some modems are generally going to be a lot better than the others, so i don't think this is pointless...

Hey all i was wondering what modem will be compatible with Straight Talk. Since Straight Talk runs on the ATT network i am guessing i would be needing an ATT modem. My tab is a tmobile branded tab and it is rooted and unlocked. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you implement the roto modem switch you can have voice with one modem, and data with the other, but all you can expect is 2g/EDGE data.

oh, so what 2 modems would you recommend i use with the modem switcher?
The two that are in the download. The script that is used to switch and flash the modems refers to those two modems, and won't run if you use other modems. The modems are the best choice for a t-mobile tab.

Contrary to popular belief, the modem does not affect your Wi-Fi signal, that is handled by the kernel.

you're wrong son, i have tested aprox.~ 10 Modems, Tested on Wifi Signal and the modem affect Wifi. On a modem 200kb and another 2mb (same wifi router )
Best for me , XXJVT , Good Signal, Wifi.
The only thing that may affect it is the time taken to connect to wifi :highfive:
