Dear All,
First i want to thank each and everyone of you, Developers and users helping Each other to get best of the best of our phones.
I have a big problem on my Galaxy Note which is the ECHO if i call or receive a call it's the same a huge echo on both sides, i disable the noise in settings while in call it's a big better but the problem still (Echo)
I tried like 5 Roms from the forum here i also tried 3 Official firmwares but still (Echo)
I do appreciate a lot if someone can help me to fix this issue,
Regards.
I get this too. No idea why. Can hear my own voice

Yep, I am having the same issue. Its really irritating me too.
The problem had been described everywhere with no solution. The only way the echo is off, if the phone is on mute.
And yes, Noise Reduction does not help much either.
I can reproduce the issue with Skype, Viber and any other application as well. So this is not Phone app related. Phone calls are just not possible on this phone if you don't have a handsfree for me.
i only really have this issue with loudspeaker mode. this is mainly because the loud speaker is on the back of the phone, right at the bottom, and the microphone is on the bottom of the phone as well.

The echo is for the person calling me. I dont hear any echo on my Galaxy Note. Try calling from another phone and speak from it. I can hear myself from other phone when I call my Note.
I have the Same Problem.

On SGS2 there was echo problems with some protecting covers. Do you guys use any on your phones?
Also with a bright flashlight check the small microphone hole between the s pen and the usb connector for dirt.
I have zero echo problem with my Note.

I also had the same problem. I would not hear any echo at my end but the one on the other end would hear his/her own voice. Immediately took it to Samsung customer care and they fixed it for me.
Try keeping in call volume low.

Nope I dont have any case on during my tests.
I have tried the low volume trick as well. There still is an echo. I read about an issue with the speaker mod done on Galaxy S 2, I might give it a go if nothing helps.
Its a pain to see such a beautiful device with this problem.

Y does i believe this b'coz note have extra mic on top, so if call volume high, that mic caches some voice of caller from nearby speaker.
So check by closing mic on top, n try if there is echo or not. if not, that cud b the only reason.

i got the same problem but .. the solution is to deactivate / disable noise reduction from settings while the call is running
so is there an app that would make "NR" OFF by default ?
hope some one can help us :/

It does help a little but one can still hear the echo.
I also noticed if I press the speaker area at the back of the cover and press it tightly, the echo is almost gone. I think there must be a software fix for it in later builds of Galaxy Note.
Right now I'm on JPKK2 build from UAE. I'm not sure applying non-direct rootable rom would make me lose my root. Probably the newere roms don't have the Echo issue as bad as in the previous ones.
Hi.
I have no problem with mine. however a couple of my friends had the same problem. when we took it back to the store, thy suggested to change the sim card. and believe it or not, it worked. I don't know what is the relation but it worked for both of them.

just take off the battery cover, it will work like charm...no echo on the other side
the producer should find a way to debug the echo issue, that's a shame.

Has anyone noticed intermittent interference noise on their SGS internal speakers? It is a high-freq buzz that lasts less than 10 seconds at a time, but can easily be heard when holding the phone close. I hear it sometimes in a call or when transmitting data and it seems like it is coming from the rear speaker.
Edited for clarification: The noise is coming from the phone; specifically the speaker on the back of the phone, not from external speakers.
Has anyone else noticed this kind of noise coming from their SGS?
Chris
No one? I am certain now that the noise is coming from the rear speaker and it is not heard when wifi is on, so it must be interference from the 3g.

No one at all?
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
Yes, it's always been a thing that happens with phones.. I remember with early generations of phones, they'd always cause speakers to make a specific series of beeping noises when someone received an sms.
I think it's caused by using one of the older data connections.. gprs or something maybe. There's nothing that can change this.
Yes, I recall hearing the buzzing and popping on computer speakers caused by some phones. My question was specifically to do with hearing interference in the rear speaker on the phone itself, do you hear anything like that? I don't actually hear any interference on external speakers.
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
Oh, you mean the speaker on the actual phone? Umm, nope, it's always been quiet..
Doesn't sound like it should be doing that, if it's been like that since you got it, might want to send it in for a check or something.
I just checked a friends phone at it does the same thing. The best way to check is to start an app that transmits continuous data on 3g, like speed test. And when its running put the rear speaker close to your ear. You can also hear it out of the front earpiece in a quiet room. These are canadian gt9000m's.

Yeah, i noticed that aswell, usually when i make calls or take calls, for like 10 seconds, working on normal GT-I9000 here.
I'm wondering if this is a normal occurence, maybe they couldn't get enough shielding on that rear speaker.
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
Can anyone else verify that they can or cannot hear the buzzing? I am considering getting samsung warranty to look at it, but only if it's not a common phenomenon. Would hate to send it in and have or come back the same.
Thanks

Just an update, my phone was replaced due to the internal sd card issue and the new phone is exhibiting the same buzzing sound. Though the sound does seem somewhat quieter on this new phone. Unless I am extremely unlucky, it seems that the noise is normal for the phone but most people just don't notice it.

same here.. found no solution yet.,... help
yes,i can hear it clearly...someone sad it named TDD noise which was caused by the GSM signal...if u use 3G,u may not hear it any more...
A few people in china found this problem too. They sad only the SGS produced in december had this problem...but it seems that u posted the thread in november....
re: december.
I have had 4 sgs's now (3 returns) that have had the noise, going back to september 2010.

My network here is 3g only, don't use gsm at all.

I also get the same thing with my phone as well, despite factory resets or exchanges thus far. Is this a normal problem?
So far, the noise disappears if you disable 3G in some way, either via turning off data or using Wi-Fi. I'm in Canada, where signals exist on 850 MHz and 1900 MHz. My phone was also purchased in November, and the replacement was sometime in early December.
My phone T959 .the brother of i9000, have the same problem...I have used HTC Universal ,and nokia 5230. Both are fine, no TDD noise at all..
Samsung have a long way to go...
i have it too (and tough it was faulty) and check out a friend's phone today and he has it too, didn't even know it and had the phone for a few months now. i guess we're just over demanding )

HAHAHA! Nah, it's just some Solar Activities causing communication flaws lately. It's near to 2012 anyway . Sorry, couldn't resist it either.
Anyway, I've never noticed about the noise. Been using this phone for almost a year? If its only with SGS, and all experiencing this are buying them at a relatively similar time, it would probably be a "batch issue".
Considering T959 experiencing the same issue, then maybe there's something wrong with how Samsung manufacture their phones. But somehow, there are lucky people who get good ones. Or most likely, this issue is too mild and there is actually nothing wrong with it. Nothing is perfect my dear friends
Everybody is complaining about echo issues when talking to me. I don't have any issues from my side, but my interlocutors say that they can hear themselves in their own phones.
This issue is present on both PACMan 22.3 (with various kernel versions) and the older CM10. Haven't tried stock firmware yet, but I think I will.
Has anybody had this issue?
I get a lot of people complaining about the Mic sounding muffled.
I call Vodafone today about the same thing and there sending me a new micro SIM to see if this helps.
Also the phone recently seems to drop calls a lot, but seeing that my Fiance has and iPhone And she's been having the dropped call problems as well I reckon it's the network.
Would seem to me though that the Mic is faulty with the phone. Going to see what the repair centre says I think.

I bought my ONE from amazon.de and, after 2 months, I cracked the screen:crying: .I called htc and they sent me to the official service in my country(Romania). The guys there replaced my htc one (to my big and pleasant surprise) with a new one.I updated it to 4.2.2, but I got some complaints about my voice not being heard loud enough on this new phone.I don't seem to rememeber to have had this on the original one.....
Is it the mic?Or something to do with the network?Anyone elese having similar problems with the microphone during calls?
P.S. By the way, does anybody know how to enable/disable noise cancelation on this phone?
What I've noticed is that my calls aren't as clear as on my Galaxy S3, not sure if noise cancellation is doing too much, but my calls are definitely more "muffled", in fact I almost always have to use my headset to hear people loud and clear. Loudspeaker mode works fine though

Yes, I know about that, that is why I wanted to buy the phone as quick as possible, probably the first one, which I bought in april, was from the first batches, with that mic in it,and this one is not. But,stil, this doesn't explain the low volume....
I mean,I did a test: I put on a song on my ipad3 in a quiet room at about a quarter of the full volume and opened shazam on my htc one and got at about 1-1,5 meters away from the tablet. To my surprise, the mic recorded the sound and shazam recognized the song!!After this little experiment,my conclusion is that the mic is working ok,but, during the calls something is a little wrong!

Hey there!
I have recently purchased a new Z3C and think it is indeed a really great phone. However, one thing that really bugs me is a constant and very noticable static noise during calls and only perceivable when using the earpice, not e.g. headphones. You can hear it all the time, especially when pausing the conversation.
Thisis the second device I have that happen, so I would really be interested if everyone else's sound via earphone is clear or if a bit of static is normal. Am I being paranoid?
I switched off all the options for "optimization" in the call settings, btw.
Cheers

Hi,
I have the same problem and it's driving me crazy. First i thought i got a phone with failure so i send it to the repair service but they were convincing me that it's normal. I couldn't belive such a thing can be normal so i insisted on a phone replacement. After writing mails directly to Sony, replacement was approved but guess what - replacement phone had the same issue. I also checked couple of phones in shops and you could hear static noice in earspeaker on all of them. However some people on forums say they can't hear anything so i'm still not sure if this problem exists only in some series. I googled much on this subject and found that Sony had many issues with audio/speaker/volume in previous Z models but it seems it was solved with firmwares. However i believe this is a hardware problem of earspeaker they use. I even found u can order a new one on ebay. All in all, as you said phone is great but this thing is annoying as hell. I tried many other brands to see if they have any sound noise and i can't hear anything. Sad story
Regards,
Nino

Quick reaction to other ppl. Ppl are deaf!
Now not so hot blooded . Happened to me many times. I have (thank God) still good hearing.
Most of the ppl I know do not care, get used or even do no hear this sound, OR are not able to distinguish it.
So even if they tell you, they do not hear it, till you can use their phone and test it next to your, that means nothing....
(This is not my first phone where I can hear something that 99 percent ppl cant hear, even on mine... luckily there is few that can so I know I am not going crazy )
Now the second point is to prove it and if it really is not just how the phone should sound.
Anyways what I tried and made me nervous was the service tests in the Service Menu *#*#7378423#*#*
All of these Primary Mic , Secondary Mic and Earphone tests sound horrible .
Serious crackling, buzzing on the Mics and Earphone, like I am used to from the Phone Call , static noise...
Funny thing however, ppl say they can hear me good and the video records also with good quality. So I do not understand how both of the mics sound so incredibly bad in the test. Well they both go through the same Earphone where I have the static noise, so the earphone could really be faulty, but I never hear the crackling, buzzing cut ofs in the call...
Update: Seems to be normal
Just an update:
I have checked another two devices, different mobile providers as well, and all of them had the same static when using the earphone. No such static when using a headset, though. It seems to be normal. I have checked my old (Xperia P) and there's static as well, although less noticeable due to a weaker/more quiet earpiece.
I also have decided to just go with it, since you can understand everything loud and clear and every other aspect of the Z3C is just that good.
Thanks for reporting everybody. I, too, thought I was going a bit crazy! Enjoy your devices everybody :good::good::good:

I am nowhere nearly silent enough to check it, but will do when I come home this afternoon. Will report back ASAP!
I'd also like to hear your results. I was about to get myself one of these phones today as they are a good price at the moment. But having a constant noise in the background on calls would bug the heck out of me! I don't want to have to use a headset, hate em. I can deal with some problems as ANY phone you buy these days has some problem, there is no perfect phone out there. I'm currently browsing the web and XDA for problems associated with the Z3 Compact, but so far this is a biggy for me, that and maybe the purple/pink hue on the camera in some pictures.
How loud are these noises in comparison to the volume of the person on the other end of a call?

In my case, I can hear the person clearly, still with some hissing. Only in silent passages it becomes really "visible".
Interesting enough I just tried something . I put the headset in a different way on my ear....
I think what I am getting is the effect of when you put your hand on your ear, seashell stuff noise ...
There is a definite hissing, static noise but becomes less apparent depending on the placement of the headset without loosing the quality of the voice, or loudness.

Till now no. I tried the sound recorder from sony, the sound came out ok. Video also seemed ok.
So if there is an issue, is most probably with the Earphone. But as was said in another threads, other phones have this also, to which extent depends on many factors...

The static noise does not interfere with the clarity of the received voice. You can hear the caller loud and clear. You will notice the static noise more as the ambient sound around you decreases. I for one have noticed, that I also tend to somehow ignore the static noise a couple of seconds in on a call.

@PAGOT I have tested everything you said and, besides said static noise, I could reproduce the issues you reported with the primary and secondary microphones: a very underwhelming performance of both of the microphones. Cracking, static sound. None of the possible options in the calls settings menu changed anything for the better or worse.
Strangely enough, the sound quality of my calls have been reported to be loud and clear. I also tried Sony's audio recorder, with flawless results Makes no sense.

But, as both of you already put forth, no phone is perfect and I will stay with the Z3C because of the nice features of the device along its very competetive price. I already passed all procedure with repair service couple of months ago, and it was not a very nice experience. The worst thing was that guy in repair service tried to make a fool out of me, like "nothing is wrong with this phone, i don't hear any noise". I mean come on, all people i asked to listen the sound heard noise, and he pretends not to hear anything. However i insisted on repair and then agony begon. After a couple of days they returned me phone with explanation that they made software adjusments and that all is fine now. Yeah sure.. it was the same ofc. I didn't take the phone but insisted on repair again. After a couple of days they said that they replaced earspeaker and that all is fine now. Yeah sure... same thing again. Then they said that they can't do anything more while guys in repair service were looking me like "again this crazy man" and made stupid jokes like "you can leave the phone here if it's not good for you". Total idiots. That really pissed me off and i contacted local Sony support in my country (Croatia, Europe). After exchanging 2 mails with them, explaining what is going on, they agreed to give me replacement phone. Unfortunately new phone had a same issue so i'm now stuck with it. I hope you will not have all this trouble but now you know what can you expect. I also wrote about this at: talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z3-Z3-Dual/static-noise-on-xperia-z3-speaker/m-p/924466/highlight/false

Can totally understand that ... was more times in a situation like this ...
A safe bet is to argue with the Service Menu tests. Microphone and Secondary Microphone and Earphone and also Stereo Speaker.
Microphones sound both bad...crackling, buzzing, static
Earphone - static noise.
Stereo Speaker - upper one is on and down one is hissing.
They can't argue with that... no matter how much they try... and its their test ...
No matter how much they want ...
(You do not have to tell them , that ppl can hear you nicely , or that video/audio recordings sound better)
Kinda thinking that this is might be a software issue? Heard theories about artificially adding some tone/noise to the call, so you know you are on call or whatever. So the filters or whatever might be set wrong. Or do we really think they would use a bad quality product?
Btw the guys over at CM or other ROMS do not have a fix for this?

Can totally understand that ... was more times in a situation like this ...
A safe bet is to argue with the Service Menu tests. Microphone and Secondary Microphone and Earphone and also Stereo Speaker.
Microphones sound both bad...crackling, buzzing, static
Earphone - static noise.
Stereo Speaker - upper one is on and down one is hissing.

On some forum someone mentioned that it could be software gain/ loudness problem. It sounds like someone turned speaker volume up to 200% so static noise is so loud but in the same time voice/music sound is on normal level. As i said in one of mine previous posts, Sony had problems with audio in some previous Z models too and they solved it with firmware update. Hope they will do something with this too - if it's not a hardware problem. Would be nice to have someone from Sony to comment this.
If you do ever find a solution for this or Sony release a fix please let us know. I'm going to hold out on buying a new phone for the time being and put up with my old Galaxy S2 in the hope something happens between now and then. I'm starting to lean towards a Galaxy S5, but I really like what Z3C has to offer, just not the static...
*Fingers crossed* and best of luck!

Well you can follow my fight here: http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperi...ble-results/m-p/978277/highlight/false#M10279
Right now the support said, they are not getting complaints about this device in regards of noise....
I try a few fixes , disabling the google voice , change a few settings on mixer paths but the call quality and mic pickup is pretty bad. Was wondering if this is a hardware issue because a lot of posts has been up about how bad it is. I love this phone just got it but if this is the main issues that I used my phone =[. Any help or fixes I should check out because i have try many fixes.
I recently put a bug request up on their forums: https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/noise-cancelling-mic-too-aggressive.477798/#post-15452631
It seems the mic is a bit aggressive with third party apps. Easy way to tell is to use the stock camera and record a quick audio clip, it should be fine. Then, in another app (Snapchat for me) take a quick video and you'll notice a lot of popping or distortion for any audio that's not close.
is this a hardware or software issue, do you think i should return it or keep it? if its a hardware issue then its not worth it

It appears to be software, however I've read the original OP3 had a similar issue that was never really addressed--at least not officially. I'd say when we start to see some ROM's pop up those devs will have it handled, but I can't say for sure.
To be honest if this issue only gets fixed by ROM developers of custom ROMs I assume the 3t will not get my new phone
I was hoping that this issue got already fixed in 3t's Software but apparently it's not.
And OnePlus seems to not put any afford into this issue
They don't seem to put any attention! "They are aware" Is all i see. No real progress that one "LTE ZIP" will take away wifi calling. Im ordering a new phone in the coming days and might go with the zte axon 7 limited edition.

I had the OPO which was great, then the OP3 which in CM14/14.1 there was an echo issue that the other side of the phone call would hear themselves, and now the OP3T has an issue with mic pickup in both regular calls and speakerphone. It feels like the quality is getting shoddy and the price is going up.
But I really don't understand why not more people are complaining about that. I read about that issue here in XDA first (but regarding the 3 and not the 3t). Then I really watched every review of the 3 on YouTube but the only one that was speaking about that problem was a German YouTuber (He is called SwagTab) in his review. No one else seemed to be aware of that problem (or didn't want to talk about it).
And I often read "it's a software problem". But why that problem hasn't been fixed already as it affects one if the essential parts of a smartphone: the microphone?
Don't know what I should think about that laziness or being unwilling to talk or fix that mess.
@bmwbasti When I had the OP3 it was narrowed down to we needed to wait for OnePlus to release the proprietary blobs for Android 7.x, but with OP3T it feels like laziness because they're still trying to please all the pissed off OP3 users and shafting the OP3T users in the process.
I think I haven't read anything about it but could it be that this issue is really fixes in the Nougat ROM that got released a few days ago for the 3? If so I could live with this issue until it's fixes in Nougat. But I think I will get my 3t not until Nougat is released anyway
Today is a sad day guys =[ i just RMA my one plus 3t , going to order the honor 8 they had an amazing sale for like 260$ i'm just going to see if i like the honor 8 , just going to be a temporary phone.. i mean why would such a good phone lack a bad mic =[
Very disappointed! The mic is a one of the most important parts of a phone. Ordered two one plus 3T devices but cancelled as soon as I came across this thread. Don't want to gamble with this.
Tried iPhone 7plus but miss my note 7. Want to go back to android, but can't find anything to substitute my note 7. Probably will go back to note 5.
Thanks to everyone who posted about this here

Mic is just fine for me....if your implying to incall, haven't recorded anything as of yet to test that side, but as it works just fine during a call I'm not suspecting any issue's on the latter.....[emoji106]

Just called OnePlus customer care to ask about this issue, they claim that they didn't have ANY complains regarding this for this model. Strange...

This seems to not be an issue while make a phone call "regulary" where your mouth is away only an inch of the microphone.
It seems to only happen when the "sound source" is not that near to the microphone as on calls.
I tested it myself with my son today. i sent him voice messages with WhatsApp. He said it's not that kind of clear like with my previous phone (HTC 10) but quality is still ok (while sound is muffled a bit) but it's so silent it's barely hearable when volume is set lower than 3/4. And he owns a HTC One M8 and that phone's speaker get really loud
Then i called him with WhatsApp but this time no messages but rather a voice call.
And now he said it's still not that clear than on my HTC 10 (but way clearer than before) but far louder and really good noticeable.
Topic: Really sad
Now there is a good amount of threads regarding this problem on OnePlus Bug Report section but it seems as if nobody of the staff cares about them...
My op3 is terrible every time I have gone to the service centre they would do a software reset and once changed the mic hardware but always acted as though I'm the only one with this issue. It's fine when I'm on speaker or through a headset but on a the normal phone mic the other end hears as though there's wind blowing
Almost all my callers complain that my voice is really muffled and they can't hear me well. Doesn't seem to matter if I have the phone to my ear, or using headphones. About 1/3 times, callers hear an echo of their own voice back at them, usually only for the first 30 seconds to a minute or so, then it stops. Really weird behavior and no idea if it's the mic or the radio or something else. Happens on all ROMS though. Started an RMA process to see if they can fix it. A chat rep hinted it might be a radio issue.
Phew glad mine is OK!

I also don't have any mic issue.
