actually, quite thankful and grateful for the advice for unlocking bootloader with stock ROM.
but however, it's custom kernel turn. i want to flash nAa latest kernel and all went well until when i unplug for it stated 'disconnected (my phone is still connected)'.
but then i stuck at flash / recovery (not the cwm or xrecovery), this had finally pushed me back to stock rom again ...
im using x8 and i want to flash nAa for other roms ... but how?
when i connected my phone during the 'stuck', i can see that the kernel is now the custom kernel, the only problem is that i can boot it to cwm as well as system for further adjustment ...

As a foreword: nAa's kernel is meant to be used with nAa's MiniCM7 (v2.1.9 at the time of writing) ROM - chances are the kernel won't work with other ROMs NOT based on MiniCM7!
About the "how to flash" ...
(I assume you already got the Android drivers installed)
- Download Flashtool and install it.
- Download the FTF file of nAa's kernel and put it into the "Firmwares" folder in the Flashtool directory.
- Start Flashtool
- Select "Flash"
- Choose the Kernel
- Now do as Flashtool asks you to:
1. Turn the phone OFF
2. Insert the USB cable into JUST your phone (DO NOT connect to the computer yet!)
3. Press the BACK key and KEEP IT PRESSED
4. Connect the other side of the USB cable to your computer
5. In case Windows says something about installing a driver let it do its job.
6. Once the flash progess started you can release the back key.
- As soon as the kernel has been flashed disconnect the phone from the computer
- Turn it on
- Keep on pressing the back key to get into CWM (yes, it's the back key on nAa)
- Flash MiniCM7
- Full Wipe
- Reboot
thanks but ...
thanks for ur great info, but after flashing nAa kernel,
the SE logo had turn to a semi-white but not really obvious black screen, and im unable to get to recovery, or i need to install minicm first before flashing nAa kernel?
No, You don't have to install ROM first While the new logo appears press back button rapidly and You will get into CWM There You can do a backup of Your current ROM, do a full wipe and install new ROM
thanks and ...
thanks for answering, i couldnt get the SE logo to show up too, just semi-white black screen and no further changes till i removed battery.
i had tried many times and the results were a despair to me

The easiest to start with CF-Root. CF-Root roots your phone & installs all the necessary stuff for flashing. You will need Odin & possibly a stock rom for your phone. These can be downloaded from http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
Remember always do factory wipe & clear cache before & after flashing. Also make sure to do a back up of your stock rom before flashing anything. Also make a back up of EFS Folder in case your IMEI number is corrupted.
I recommend connecting your phone to your pc after installing CF-Root & copying everything that is on the internal sd card onto your pc.
Instructions in first post. It is long and can be confusing but if you read it carefully it is all quite easy.
Next go here (Team ICSSGS) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1398223
Instructions are in first post of thread. (Below instruction copied from first post of link)
Flashing Instructions
If you are flashing from another rom.
1. Flash ROM(new script should handle coming from any ROM, you also need gingerbread bootloaders)
If you are upgrading from an earlier build.
1. Flash the newest build in CWM.
If you have rebooted and your phone will not go past the kernel screen.
1. Boot into CWM and wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition.
2. Reflash the appropriate kernel.
3. Reboot.
If the flashing procedure didn't quite go to plan, please follow this guide
After this install this kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1468795
Again all instructions on first post of thread.

try that its were i started and ive flashed loads of roms now
Instruction for Flashing new ROM
There are basically 2 methods for flashing a ROM
1. CWM recovery menu mode
2. Download mode.
1. For CWM recovery mode you phone must be rooted with CWM, just put the ROM zip file in sdcard of your phone of your choice. then power off the phone. Then you may want to boot in reovery mode for this use pressing and holding 3 button combination simultaneaously as Volume UP + Home key + Power key now you should be booted in to recovery mode there just wipe data/factory reset then wipe cache from option then find and select install from sdcard -> chose file zip from sdcard and press power key to selct and start flashing. wait max 5 min and your phone will be booted with new rom of your choice.
2. Boot in to download mode by pressing and holding 3 button combination simultaneaously as Volume down + Home key + Power key now you should be booted in to download mode now connect your phone with PC and open odin in PC then select ROM file as PDA, PHONE & CSC under propoer boxes then click start - wait max 5 min and you phone will be booted in to new rom.

It's JVU I have XWJW1 does that matter ? or will my phone become JVU after ?
I want to install CyanogenMod 7.1 on my X8 but am a little unsure. I have some questions...
i) Do I have to unlock the bootloader?
ii) Which CyanogenMod firmware is the best/most popular (pls give link)?
iii) In order to install the CM firmware are these the only steps I need to follow...
"1. Be sure to backup all your current data such as apps, contacts, messages etc before installing a custom ROM.
2. Transfer all the zip files needed to make the ROM work and the ROM itself on your SD card. We do this now because stock ROM won't boot up with a custom kernel.
3. Choose your kernel, download it and put the .ftf file in the "Firmwares" folder of Flashtool.
4. Open Flashtool.
5. Press the flash button. Make sure "flash mode" is selected and press OK.
6. Select the kernel you want to install and press OK.
7. Shut down your phone While holding the back button. Insert the USB cable.
8. Wait till the process has finished and remove the USB cable.
9. Boot up your phone and as soon as the kernel logo appears, start pressing the back button continuously multiple times till you get to CWM recovery. Now its time to flash the ROM.
10. Follow the instructions on the ROM's thread on how to install it.
11. Enjoy!"
Thank-You.
:
Unlocking bootloader only needed if you want to change the stock kernel to custom kernel, just remember that your phone should be rooted before have CWM or xRecovery..
I think GingerDx or GingerXperia is better just googling to find the rom.
MiniCm7 2.2.0 and GingerDx v026 r the best roms for me. I use MiniCm7 2.2.0 cuz it runs on nAa-11 or Alfs-Cm7 v8a and my phones WiFi works best with those kernels...
MiniCM7 2.2.0: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362585
Its all there how to flash that rom...
most popular now are DX and PrimeHD.
I prefer the second because for me its FASTER and today PrimeHD v9 released!!! for all kernels CM 7.2 | Stock / nAa / Alfs
here is the link:

You should considered GingerZakari too. Some experiance members report its a very fast rom
lets get Ice cream sandwich
Thanks for the reply everyone. I attempted to install GingerDX but failed big time! I didn't unlock the bootloader, I dont think I had to. I tried installing it by following the instructions, but I don't know what I did wrong, I failed at everything flashing/installing/wiping memory etc... I (nearly) killed my X8-it would show the Sony Ericsson boot image but not boot up. Luckily I restored the stock 2.1 Android by Sony Update Service.
I really am pissed off from this custom ROM cr*p and have given up .
But thx for helping me anyway.
maybe you cant try some ROMs like miniCM7 or GingerZaraki(use alfs)
after you unlock bootloader, you can flash the kernel to upgrade your phone.
so you must unlock BL to do everything
if you're not unlock BL you may brick your phone
After I failed I tried again , I done more research and found out about GingerDX, it didn't need unlocked bootloader and it worked on the stock kernal while providing GB. I got all the tools I needed and gave it a go; and after a few attempts I got it to work and now I am using it and it runs superbly, much better than (stupid) stock Eclair!
Thanks for the advice, I figured out that to run CM I need unlocked bootloader-I cannot unlock mine because it it network locked and there is no info on unlocking bootloader in service menu. But I am very happy with GingerDX!

Hi, I'm using nAa+PrimeHD and I want to try Alfs+GingerZaraki but I'm confused with the instructions...
On GingerZaraki's thread it says don't install addons or updates from Alfs :S
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660560
but on Alfs it says I have to do it....
Also, I don't know if I have to get another ROM first, go back to stock kernel or install the ROM and then flash the kernel...
thanks
pd: I'd like to know what to do the other way round too, I mean, from Alfs+GZaraki to nAa+PrimeHD
I think u should follow ginger zaraki instructions...
Sent from my E15i using Tapatalk 2
first you should install alfs kernel with flastool...then go to flashing ginger zaraki rom, without addon for alfs...may be there is addon too in the ginger zaraki rom !
OH LOL, I didn't notice that PrimeHD runs with Alfs too...
But still, Alfs kernel instructions say:
Install instruction
- Download the update-rom*-AlfsKern*.zip or kernel AddOn provided with rom and place it on sd-card
- Download and unpack the rar and put it in flashtool/firmwares folder
- Turn off the phone
- Run flashtool
- Press Flash, choose downloaded file
- Plug in the usb while pressing back button
- Wait till progress finishes
- Unplug the phone, turn it on back
- Hope for the best
- Go to CWM recovery with back button and install the update-rom*-AlfsKern*.zip or Kernel AddOn provided with rom Remember if you update the rom, then reinstall this.
- In v08 you need to install new adreno libs found in post #2
- Wipe cache and dalvik-cache in recovery
So, if I'm going to install GingerZaraki, I shouldn't do the step 1?
thats where I get confused...
"- Download the update-rom*-AlfsKern*.zip or kernel AddOn provided with rom and place it on sd-card
- Go to CWM recovery with back button and install the update-rom*-AlfsKern*.zip or Kernel AddOn provided with rom Remember if you update the rom, then reinstall this."
Also in notes it says:
-You need to install the included update-rom*-AlfsKern*.zip to mount sdcard to pc, fix the chargemon script and screen brightness(v09+).
D:?
may be you should go to page alfs page !! But just for share,I ever used alfs 8a ( not alfs 8a for Gdx ) I always install update zip /addon after flashing rom with cwm
Read the GingerZaraki post completely. It says no alfs kernel update required, its already included.
Hope i helped
Just install Alfs v08a normally and then flash GingerZaraki V07. The addons are included in the ROM so you don't have to flash anything else.
Good luck.

By "just install Alfs normally" u mean this?
- Download and unpack the rar and put it in flashtool/firmwares folder
- Turn off the phone

- Press Flash, choose downloaded file
- Plug in the usb while pressing back button
- Wait till progress finishes
- Unplug the phone, turn it on back

nvm I did it :B thanks
I didn't like GingerZaraki... it's like as fast as PrimeHD+nAa but uglier and with that annoying statusbar bug
imma try Alfs9+GDX v028b
I have an I9001. I know how to make root/Lots of flash Stock or Custom via odin&cwm/ etc.
When try to Flash a custom Rom today. Phone start with CWM mode. I made all wipes and format data/cache/system/sdcar/mmc but stil phone start with Cwm. I use recovery-clockwork-5.5.0.4-ariesve.tar.
Then I flash a stock Rom and phone open normally. but sometimes its restart and wifi&3G looking together on status bar and phone's screen opeden for 1 sec every 30 sec.
1. Why i can not install Custom Rom (when i try it phone just open with cwm and all wipes not works)
2. Why phone restart a new Stock rom then the screen always opened itself ( i tired XXKQE and XXKQI and same )
Sorry for my bad english.
if u come from ginger roms to ics , maybe at first install when you install rom , it's install recovery , So then you should install rom again.
if this is not your answer , ask your Q in this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1252697
Madam/Sirs;
I decided to flash into a CM9 however when im trying to install the zip folder my phone suddenly restarted continuously.
i cannot enter in the CWM because after 2 seconds it will restart continuously .. it does have this red exclamation point with
the android logo. please help me . Thanks !
More info needed:
What ROM are you coming from?
Did you clear Cache/Dalvik and do Factory Reset before flashing a new ROM?
ICS/JB use different partitions. You are currently in a bootloop (most likely). You need to flash the ROM twice (first flash is repartitioning only). Pull the battery, hold volume keys, power on. In CWM flash this very same ROM one more time. If you can't get to CWM for some reason, just use One-click back to Stock ROM, flash Corn kernel, update to ICS/JB. Easy to understand step-by-step Guide here. I personally don't recommend ICS on Captivate because of EU bug.
