Make a clean flash. Wipe all, install rom, reboot, wipe cache , dalvik cache, flash new kernel. Maybe left some settings from older roms or kernels

thanks for your answer!, but i tried all those steps. But with no succes
Strange part of the story is, that wi-fi allways worked on my phone, also with ICS, but with newer versions or something, it goes wrong
For what it is worth - I also had the wifi toggling problem on the last 2 ROMS that I tried:
Slim_ICS_sgs_2.6.zip
aokp_galaxysmtd_build-25-be18.zip
The problems started exactly a week ago.
I ended moving back to Slim_ICS_2.5.zip where everything works OK.
From what I understand the problem is limited to a small number of users...
I am wondering if it might not be related to recent changes in the source code (both of the above ROMS are compiled from source).
I am however very curious why some people are impacted (with the wifi toggling issue) and others are not. Maybe it is related to their LOCALs (mine is FR/fr) and/or regions... just a thought. All comments welcome!
The problem line is that I am going to sit on the fence for awhile and see if something needs to (or will) be changed at source level.

OK, I have tried absolutely everything. I have scoured the bowels of XDA and cannot find a resolution so please don't say UTFSE.
Ever since the 8/23 nightly on CM6 I cannot get WiFi to work properly. I tried flashing alternative kernels which work fine temporarily. After an extended time the WiFi will stop working randomly. I checked to see if the WiFi sleep policy was set incorrectly which it wasn't.
I have used IntersectRavens, WildMonks, Pershoot's and Cyanogens stock kernels. IR and WildMonks kernels works temporarily. Other people are having the same issues on Google Code. The link to that is https://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=2211
The logcat for the issue is at https://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/attachmentText?id=2211&aid=-2810531155679896350&name=CM6_wifi_bug.logcat.txt&token=1da7e89ef60e0b20b3aa36c3b1af6746 I have flashed alternative ROM's such as PFY, Enomther, MCR, KingKlick's ROMs, Sense ROM's and the WiFi works perfectly. Can someone please help me out as I have been a month without WiFi on CyanogenMod and its driving me nuts?
A. Wrong forum
B. Have you tried the latest nightlies or CM6 Final?

A.) No its not the wrong forum. It is a development issue.
B.) Yes I have tried EVERY nightly and of course CM6 Final.
Thanks for the no help.
Do you have your SSID set to not broadcast, are you using MAC filters, what type of encryption are you using? All things that would get you an answer quicker.
PS. Also, obviously not the right forum as the moderators saw fit to move it to Q&A
PSS. Have you tried doing a full wipe and then installing the latest CM6 nightly (obviously do a nandroid first) to see if there's any issue with a clean install?

Yes my SSID is hidden, I use Mac filters (I checked them), and I'm using WPA2.
I also wiped before I tried every build. I had no issues with ANY other ROM's. I've flashed EVERY build since 8/23 including updates during the day and still can't get it to work. I've also formatted my SD card every different way also.
P.S Your absolutely right
Well, with the extensive security you have set on your network, may I ask; why are you still hiding your SSID? It seems a little overkill and doesn't really solve keeping a hacker out of your network if they really wanted in as every single wifi-analyzer application can detect hidden SSID's (netstumbler, kismet, wardrive, etc). Does the problem still exist if you turn back on broadcast SSID?
PS. When you say wipe, are you doing a full wipe or just a wipe of dalvik and cache?

First of all I know it's easy to find the Mac addresses and spoof them blah blah. My router has been working fine and with all my other electronics. If it was a problem with the network then SenseUI and non-CM ROM's wouldn't work either. Also wipe as in everything. I've been doing this since the G1 came out.
That's why I didn't want this question in Q&A. I'm not trying to troubleshoot a problem with wiping or flashing a ROM. I attached a logcat so a DEVELOPER could look at it. It's a problem that cant be solved by wiping or flashing or my network settings. I have been at this for a month. I'm also not the only one having this issue as you can see at Google Code. A couple of people are having this issue not just me.
EDIT: MOD'S - Can you please move this topic back into Nexus One Development please? I believe they would be able to help me better over there. Thanks
I did see this being discussed for awhile in the CM6 final thread and I think they came to the conclusion of just broadcast your SSID for now. It's a known bug and set to Low priority on the tracker. That's about the best you can hope for at the moment. Might I also suggest that you post this issue in the official CM forums? You might get more of a response from the actual developers over there.
Hi all,
I've been unable to find a post about this for quite some time so I decided to make a threat about it.
I have a recurring problem with my captivate. Usually after about 2 weeks of using a ROM my phone will have 2 issues pop up simultaneously. They seem to always happen together. It seems to happen after my phone shuts off and will not turn back on until I battery pull. Once I do that I am presented with these two issues:
1.) When I try and toggle Wifi it attempts to then simply says "error" underneath it. I have found a few threads about this but no answers
2.) Upon installation OR restoration of any app with Titanium Backup my phone does a soft reboot (goes to spinning CM logo or for ICS goes to the multicolored squares flying around).
Edit: On the newest MIUI it now says "insufficient storage available" instead of rebooting when I try to install an app after the issues crop up, wifi "error" is still the same
I've had these same 2 issues occur with CM7 Stable, RC, and many nightlies, MIUI, and TeamHacksung's ICS build. I believe it may have happened with cognition too but am not positive.
I do not restore any data with TB. Before each flash I wipe system, cache, dalvik, and do factory reset and still this issue occurs without fail after about 2 weeks on any ROM and the only fix I have is to flash a new one.
Nandroid backups DO fix the problem. If anyone is willing to look through logs or something and see what was different I would be eternally grateful and certainly send you something through PayPal
Any help is greatly appreciated and I am willing to try anything at this point. Thanks!

Nah this is the right place. That's a very strange problem you're having though, and I don't know what the exact solution is, if there even is one for this. The only thing I can suggest is going back to stock, and then reinstalling CM7 or whatever you want

Thanks,
Well happened again on newest MIUI. Gonna go back to stock and start over. I'll update the thread if it does or does not happen again.
Unfortunately after using Odin to go back to stock and rerooting/flashing it happened again on the most current build of MIUI. I'm currently at a loss for what to do. Has anyone heard of or seen anything like this?
Thanks in advance

Just curious, have you tried leaving it stock and seeing if it happens on a pure stock ROM? If so it could be a defect with the phone?
If you flash back to pure stock and the issue doesn't come back, maybe try a custom ROM that's closer to stock, not a CM or MIUI or ICS build. I haven't seen this issue, just trying to suggest some solutions.
I had this same problem with my fascinate. I flashed 1.10.21 MIUI follwed by glitch 13.1. This combination used to work, or so I thought. I flashed back to stock, 1.12.1 then a different package of glitch 13.1 and my wifi started working again. I know the captivates and fascinates are somewhat different, but try this out and see if it works.

I guess I could try that, I just like CM7/MIUI so much. Another thing that happens is many different applications start FCing after the problems all begin.
I tried to restore to a nandroid backup I had made before it happened this time and I received an MD5 mismatch which I believe happened last time I tried to restore...
New info:
I have not realized this before but it seems that I start getting a message that says, "Google Talk Authentication Failed", around the same time. Also FCs happen much more frequently. Is there anything I could be doing to cause this?
New Info
Just going to keep this updated with things I have tried in case anyone ever searches for this that has this issue:
Full format of SD card and odin back to stock did not prevent the issue from cropping up on the DarkKnight3 ROM with Icy Glitch. At this point I can only assume it is somehow hardware relatedl
Hey, sorry to post here but I'm under 10 posts and the system said to post in the general I9000 Q&A section.
I know the ICS RC4 ROM was pulled and that it had known issues. But while reading people's responses I never came across the problems I was having with RC4.
I flashed it several times and every time I had the same problems on top of the known problems
These are:
- Autorotate didn't work, some menu's were stuck on normal and some on wide.
- Middle home button didn't work anymore
I don't know if these are known as well, but I really love the work XDA developers are doing and I'm hoping that the next ROM will work as good as RC3.1 is working on my phone. I'm loving it guys! Thank you!
RC4 wiped my efs folder as well. Luckily I had a Backup
I've had to flash several ROMs a couple of times... But out of like 6 flashes it only deleted my pictures once!
Though contacts can be backed up with your phone on your external SD card
wipe and again
about the rotation and middle button, I had this problem and all I had to do is to wipe cache+ dalvik+ FS > flash rom again > wipe everything again and it seemed to solve my problem for some reasons.
I am pretty sure you've done it, but if you have not here something for you to try.
since rc4 using dif code then the rc3.1 right? you need to wipe it all and have "a fresh start"
If wiped the data/factory reset and wiped cash at every flash... It didn't help..
Though I went back to RC3.1 and now it works perfectly again!
Hi. I rooted my sister's Galaxy S i9000, using the same methods I used mine (Odin, same kernels, etc.). Don't remember exactly which.
Problem is, her phone CONSTANTLY force closes everything (messaging, google services, browser, almost EVERY app).
And I mean, that's after wiping data, reinstalling the ROM. It happened on several mods: ICS MR1, MIUI v3, PilotX, CM7/9. Always. After one or two days of usage, she had to wipe everything. Even without restoring faulty apps or something like that, it would only take around 2-3 days for her to need to redo everything.
Now, I'm lost and I can't find what to do. Will changing partitions, kernels, anything like that help? What should I use? Any idea as to why this happens?
Note my phone was rooted and is running exactly the same kernel/software, but this never happens to me. I don't know what to do! Help! She's super pissed at me and she can't get any tech support because we voided the warranty by rooting.
Please I'm lost ):
Thanks in advance for any help!
First of all, I recommend to you that you flash again a clean stock rom (no mods, no custom kernels, just a stock rom). I know it's awful but it's for trying purposes.
If after 2 days it's still happening maybe it's time to install a kernel and format /system, /data and /cache directly. Else try installing CM9 latest nightly and keep it 2 days again
I think it's problem with the installation, but I can't be more helpful than now.
Tell us if problem is solved with this.

I'm not sure reinstalling Stock would work. Also it would give me two problems: I can't (already tried) finding a Stock i9000 ROM & Kernel with Hebrew available as a locale (my sister is 14. She knows ok English but I can't keep her with it on her phone for too long), as pre ICS did not have Hebrew built-in.
Two, I'm in the army and I have little time to be at home, meaning if this doesn't work she'll be forced to use that ROM for about two weeks minimum. I'm really hoping I could partition better or something like that which might be more dependable and a more valid, "trusted" solution..
I will keep this an option though, if I find no other solution before I get home, thanks!
Mmm... Well... There is a few roms with hebrew, I think. Here is one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1189676
You might try to flash it... It's the latest gingerbread released by Samsung with a lot of mods... I couldn't find any stock rom with hebrew support, I apologize.
Let me know if it works or not. Maybe I can still help you...
I have a issue that when I use the ICS or JB ROM,the starting animation keeps flashing. When the tablet finishes booting, lock the screen and then unlock it the flashing will stop.Anybody has the same problem?
Plus the tablet will sometimes turns on itself after I turn it off.
If someone can help me solve those problem,I really appreciate it.
Thanks!
I have same problem with mine...somebody told me it's somehow related to undervolted screen or something. I'm no expert, but you can find my thread if you search for screen artifacts on my tab, I think.

These issues are already being discussed on the threads. You are dealing with ALPHA (JB) and mostly BETA (ICS) ROMs so bugs are to be expected. The only game we can play is the waiting game until devs get official source for some drivers and keep fixing stuff. If you want something stable, you can always go back to stock Honeycomb 3.2 firmwares.

I had the same problem when I first installed JB. The instructions I read did not say that you need to wipe the data, cache, and davlik cache (under Advanced in CWM Restore). I wiped those and it booted just fine.
This was my first root / custom ROM install, that was the only real bump in the road for me.

Every ROM requires a full wipe if you want a trouble-free experience apart from the ROM bugs, especially with an alpha. An alpha ROM is not suited for newcomers so, you should've started with something basic, something stable as Overcome for example, in order to learn the basics of flashing and everything. You were lucky you didn't break anything.
