Starting animation is flashing - Galaxy Tab 8.9 General

I have a issue that when I use the ICS or JB ROM,the starting animation keeps flashing. When the tablet finishes booting, lock the screen and then unlock it the flashing will stop.Anybody has the same problem?
Plus the tablet will sometimes turns on itself after I turn it off.
If someone can help me solve those problem,I really appreciate it.
Thanks!

I have same problem with mine...somebody told me it's somehow related to undervolted screen or something. I'm no expert, but you can find my thread if you search for screen artifacts on my tab, I think.

These issues are already being discussed on the threads. You are dealing with ALPHA (JB) and mostly BETA (ICS) ROMs so bugs are to be expected. The only game we can play is the waiting game until devs get official source for some drivers and keep fixing stuff. If you want something stable, you can always go back to stock Honeycomb 3.2 firmwares.

I had the same problem when I first installed JB. The instructions I read did not say that you need to wipe the data, cache, and davlik cache (under Advanced in CWM Restore). I wiped those and it booted just fine.
This was my first root / custom ROM install, that was the only real bump in the road for me.

Every ROM requires a full wipe if you want a trouble-free experience apart from the ROM bugs, especially with an alpha. An alpha ROM is not suited for newcomers so, you should've started with something basic, something stable as Overcome for example, in order to learn the basics of flashing and everything. You were lucky you didn't break anything.

Make a clean flash. Wipe all, install rom, reboot, wipe cache , dalvik cache, flash new kernel. Maybe left some settings from older roms or kernels

thanks for your answer!, but i tried all those steps. But with no succes
Strange part of the story is, that wi-fi allways worked on my phone, also with ICS, but with newer versions or something, it goes wrong
For what it is worth - I also had the wifi toggling problem on the last 2 ROMS that I tried:
Slim_ICS_sgs_2.6.zip
aokp_galaxysmtd_build-25-be18.zip
The problems started exactly a week ago.
I ended moving back to Slim_ICS_2.5.zip where everything works OK.
From what I understand the problem is limited to a small number of users...
I am wondering if it might not be related to recent changes in the source code (both of the above ROMS are compiled from source).
I am however very curious why some people are impacted (with the wifi toggling issue) and others are not. Maybe it is related to their LOCALs (mine is FR/fr) and/or regions... just a thought. All comments welcome!
The problem line is that I am going to sit on the fence for awhile and see if something needs to (or will) be changed at source level.

[Q] CWM Restores a perfect restore?

I was wondering how perfect of a restore a CWM restore is.
I was running a custom GB ROM (rocket rom to be exact) and it was running flawlessly. I then decided I might try this new CM9 ICS ROM.
So to be sure about the CM9 install, I figure I'd install from a stock GB Rom. So I first did a CWM backup of my current rocket rom and then I restored an older stock (rooted) ROM. It seemed to work fine. Then.... after reading about the (few) issues wit this new CM9 rom I decided I'd wait a bit longer until a few more of the quirks are worked out.
So I then restored back my Rocket rom backup and even doing the flash cache and davik cache also. But now I notice my once working Rocket ROM is experiencing a lot of SODs.
So now I'm wondering how perfect my restore was. I really don't have a lot of apps or wireless networks and can easily restore my contact list. For that reason, do you think it'll help if I do a factory reset wipe and then reinstall everytyhing....or even go so far as reinstall rocket rom and then reinstall everything else manually without any restores...would that be really the best clean install....or would any of this not make a difference at all and wiping/reinstall a toatl waste of time and my prob is actuaully something else....
Thanks
I could do with knowing the answer to these questions too.
It would be good to get a detailed idiots guide to CWM, do's and don't's etc.
Well a clean install will surely get you rid of the SODs. There is some app and its data that is conflicting with the system and crashes the whole phone. So if you are ready to clean install everything that will fix everything

sleep of death, its the device not waking up properly from sleep
Pus it doesnt include efs, so its not complete backup. Handy if yu stay n same rom version, but thats likely not.
Squicky clean install is always best. Even only app and data recovering thought titanium can mess things up. Make it laggy and nonfunctional etc, Blegh

1. Install abyssnote42
2. Factory wipe, cache, dalvik
3. Restore your rocketrom backup
That's what i do with my rocketrom v23 backup
Zapped through server hops to XDA forums
its not perfect but its the best so far
all i can say is that cwm is the best and simple thing for me so far and if u get trouble some times while trying to shift from CM9 to normal ics or from gb to ics all I suggest is use redpill recovery from abbysnote

Yeah, mine does that from the clock on Dragon ICS 2.4 when charging it didn't use to, started since I started Dual Booting. 2.5 is out in the next hour or so according to the Dev page. Hope it fixes an otherwise awesome ROM.. Otherwise it's back to single booting and possibly on to Omega 12 until CheckROM is released..

[Q] Abnormally Slow Galaxy S Captivate - Factory Reset Doesn't Help

Hi, first of all, I am new to Android devices.
I am having a problem with my AT&T Samsung Galaxy S Captivate. Games and apps seems to be running slower than normal after updating to Gingerbread 2.3.5. I have rooted my phone with Odin3 v 1.85, but it's been running slow even before the root. (In fact, I rooted the phone so I could install a lagfix, but I can't find one for Captivate I897 running on 2.3.5).
Anyway, I don't see the reason for games and apps to be running slow because I've heard that the Captivate has a pretty good GPU. Also, it's not like I've overstocked my phone's storage; I only have a few apps.
I've also made a short video explaining my problem further. Just search "slow captivate" on youtube. I should be the first video: "Really Slow Samsung Galaxy S Captivate - Fix?"
I've searched everywhere for a fix, but I can't find anything, so I came here. Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this, or at least reduce the lag?
Thanks in advance,
-xxTDGPainxx
I was seeing my phone work slower and slower on 2.3.6, I suspected that the developers of the apps I used were starting to develop for ICS and that maybe it was different enough that the updates were causing the apps to misbehave on older versions. I flashed to ICS just to see... and it was a great move, ICS on the captivate flies!!! I used SlimICS, I think it is the right way to go for Galaxy S phones...

First of all, lagfix isn't really used anymore. Also, I would say to get rid of those task killing apps. They don't help and only add to your problems. A lot of the symptoms you encountered are pretty common, and I was expecting something much worse. You seem to be running a different kernel that allows overclock; which is it?
If all else fails, try ICS

Hey
I tried to upgrade to ICS with Team ICSSGS [Android 4.0.3]. I followed a step by step tutorial using CWM to load "ICS_4.0.3_MR1-RC4.2_Captivate.zip" and installation seems to go well. But after I try to reboot my phone, the AT&T logo comes up, then the "Google" logo comes up, but it just stays stuck at the Google logo forever. ICS never starts up. I've tried removing the battery and then going back into CWM and restarting the process but the same thing keeps happening. What should I do?

Yeah, I've flashed it a few times. Each time, before I install it, I clear data/factory reset, clear cache, and davlik cache, but it's still just getting stuck at the "Google" boot screen. It's weird because every time, CWM says it installs successfully. I'm starting to think that the .zip I downloaded isn't so good...
Do you know of a good, stable version of ICS I could use instead? Maybe even the same one you're using?
Thanks

GUIDE TO INSTALL ICS, my way at least
Hey if you're looking for a good guide to putting ICS on your captivate I can help, The first time i tried ICS i messed things up and angrily decided that i wouldn't try it again and reverted back to 2.3.5, after carefully trying ICS again i love it so much. I won't ever go back to android 2.whatever.
I used CM9 ICS and have no issues or bugs. It's possible there are other better ICS roms but i prefer this one since i know for a fact that it works great.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363760
You'll need to download CM9 v17 and a gapps package on your SD card.
trust me, ICS is worth it, it's much better than 2.3
if you have titanium backup backup your user apps (NOT SYSTEM APPS/SYSTEM DATA)
Rom installation:
First things first always do a nandroid backup so you can go back easier, if necessary.
once thats done go to CWM recovery and do a wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition. once that's done install the CM9 .zip package for the rom.
IT WILL STOP HALFWAY THROUGH AND REBOOT ITSELF, as this is the new kernel being installed. while it's still rebooting pull the battery and let it turn off, reboot straight into CWM recovery.
once this happens go back to install you CM9 .zip file again. it will finish all the installation after that. once it finishes the install you should definitely install the Gapps.zip. it will load up your google apps (market, gmail, youtube, etc and your google account sync) if you don't load the Gapps you will not have very much functionality to your captivate.
once you have your google apps installed you should be ready to fly with a fast responsive captivate. Hope this helps, it took a few trial and error runs before i figured it out.
If you used titanium backup to backup your apps you can restore APPS ONLY!!! don't restore any system data/system apps!!!! it's very important that you don't do that.
that should be it. enjoy your ICS, it's much better than android 2.blah
Fastness: CM7
Sexyness: CM9
That's the answer to everything.
I have run aokp (my current) and doc's master. Both have been great!
I'm far from an Android guru but if you follow the directions, you will be ok. Both also have relatively supportive forums if you get in a jam.

[Q] (NEED HELP) Phone restart itself into recovery after installing ICS/JB ROM's

Hi Seniors,
This became like a mystery for me..please help me to solve it.
Issue is like this if I install any custom or stock Gingerbread ROMS by phone works like a butter, no issue at all I can say.
But when I install any ICS or JellyBean ROM's it starts creating pain in my neck.
If I am using my phone it never restarts itself but when I lock my phone screen and keep it my pocket M finding that my phone is restarting into recovery mode itself.
Now here comes the strange part...If I play music using any music player and lock my screen it works fine, its not restarting itself ...but once I stop that music player and lock my handset screen in idle mode it goes to recovery in few secs
This only happens if I upgrade to ICS or JellyBean ROM's
One more issue...my wifi works fine If am having GingerBread install on my phone but when I install ICS/JB I cant even start it.
Have tried a lot to get it fixed....but
.....Even I want to taste ICS/JB Rom's like u guys...Please Help Your Rookie.

Hey EwOkie,
Thanks for your courtesy mate...really appreciate it,
So here we go,
I had stock GB 2.3.6 ROM installed on my phone ;ie GT-I9000_XEU_I9000XXJW4_I9000OXAJW4_I9000XXJW4.zip,
after that I rooted my phone using CF-Root-XX_OXA_JW4-v4.4-CWM3RFS,
then I did factory reset, wipe cache and dalvik cashe and installed GamerzRom v11.0 which is a GB ROM,
so far no issue...wifi is working fine, phone is not at all giving me any auto restart issue...its was working like a charm,
then I found ICS_F4k_MOD_v4.0.4_I9000_r3.zip which is an ICS ROM,
I did factory reset, wipe cache and dalvik cache, the I installed ICS_F4k_MOD_v4.0.4_I9000_r3.zip using CWM Recovery console,
it was booted fine to home screen...later on I tried connecting my phone using my wifi router I found that WiFi was not switching on at all,
I locked my phone using lock button then after few secs I am finding my phone is restarting itself in recovery mode,
restarted my back to normal and again the same issue,
I ignored it,
Then I downloaded C-RoM Mix v7 Latest 4.2.1.zip in which had a wifi bug fix,
I did factory reset, wipe cache and dalvik cache,
I flashed it using clockworkmod recovery and had eactly that same issue which I had on ICS ROM,
for WIFI issue I tried flashing wififix.zip and found no resolution,
my phone went into boot loop of Samsung Logo,
then I flashed it back to original stock rom GB 2.3.6 and my phone started working like the way it should be.
This is the whole story
I moved from GB to ICS and then to JB.
Seriously brother I have no idea why its causing this weird issue...this is why I am looking for help from AndroidXperts on XDA site
Kindly help me to sort it out.
Thanks & Regards
D.J XactiX
Ok first up thanks for the info....
When doing a complete wipe before installing another rom make sure you wipe all 4 :
Data / Factory Reset
Cache Partition
Dalvik Cache
Battery Stats
Unless the Developer for the Rom States otherwise.
I know that there are a few ICS Roms that have a lot of bugs please check Info on them before Downloading
Should tell you whats working and whats notto save hassle
As I really only use GB Roms (my own preference)
Might help to try different Modems for your Romas this can help signal/network strength, where do you stay?
Yeah flashing back to 2.3.6 will work all the time as its basically stock.
No matter what Custom Rom I try I always flash JVU 2.3.6 then Root it > then the Custom Rom I want
I never just overwrite it with another Rom...
Hopefully someone with the same Rom as yourself may help as I dont want to give wrong info ....
Or Ask on the Rom site the issue your having with it
If you do need my help ... just ask

Hi EwOkie,
Thanks for sharing your experience.
I am followed everything what u just mentioned in ur reply allready...but no go
Me & my GF we both have i9000 and I have followed same installation process on both the phones...her phones works like a charm but mine is like an incomplete soul.
One more thing mate,I really dont understand this ......can you tell me what difference it makes to have JVU 2.3.6 or some other version...how exactly its works....u know what I mean to say.
No idea why we use 2.3.6 JVU with CF Root (Kernel for Recovery) we just do ,, suppose its the best to start with before flashing a Custom Rom
So your partners phone works ok and yours doesnt.. did you try using the PIT File and re-partition?
Check my signature at bottom its a HOW TO Guide incase you get lost
As I says I dont have a lot of experience with ICS or JB Roms as the ones i flashed in the past werent as stable and had some bugs in them
Thats why i stuck with GB Roms
plz help me
today i install a custom rom lollipop in sony xperia c3 dual
but now my phone refused to start even same issue recovery mode... now my phone completely death.. when i try to start it red +green blink but fast mode work easily .. & when i connect my phone to charger it restart it self again & again ... its show only sony logo and its restart again ..plz help me

Which Kernel
Hello Everybody,
I read about this Rom and it sounds really cool. I am excited to try. However, this will be the first time I will flash my S3 LTE (I have flashed other devices before). So, I dont want to brick my S3 LTE. I was confused about the Kernel. Do I need a costum kernel? There are some for Android 5.1. I am running right now a stock Android 4.4.4 rom on my device. Can i just install the Rom following the tutorial on the first page or is there something special about that?
Thank you very much for helping me,
greetings
Marc
It seems my Bluetooth is not working after flashed this rom, full wiped. The phone could not find any bluetooth device and could not be found as well.

As long as you have rooted your phone, you can just follow the steps in the OP. The kernel is installed in the rom .zip package. You can install a custom kernel over the stock one if you want to experiment with CPU settings and governors etc, but you won't get much help on this thread if you have issues like things not working properly.
At the moment there a couple of bugs that could be fixed by using agni until the next build however
Bluetooth
Did a clean install with version 20150610. Bluetooth seems not to work. Although turned on, not finding other devices and not be seen by other devices. Is this a bug? Bluetoth was working before the flashing when using Slimkat.

The mod is very good. One note: You can turn off the phone to ring. I will not ring deaf
Thanks and great work on the mod
I just want to thank you for the great mod.
I have waited for a pure (more or less) AOSP mod for the S3 LTE and here you are!
Sometimes I get forced close on the Android keyboard (mostly in Whatsapp) and one or two times FC of the SMS/MMS app. But nothing serious.
Keep up the good work.
TiggaZ
I tried the new release as of 22.06.2015 and it is pretty stable.
Bluetooth is working (connects to an BT headset) but I got some forced reboots while listening to music. Maybe it was because it was Macklemore, I don't know .
After a clean reboot everything seems to work fine. I will give some more feedback about the long term stability as I use this as daily driver now.

The sd card appears to be working when plugged directly in my PC, and I tried formatting with no success when plugged back in my phone. It's also working when in recovery.
A problem with Gapps
Hi, I tried to install this ROM, but Gapps wouldn't install. (I'm using CWM recovery 6.0.4.7)
It says:
Code:
E:Error in /storage/sdcard1/pa_gapps-modular-micro-5.1-20150410-signed.zip
(Status 6)
Installation aborted.
Any help? It seemed that at least one another person in the main ROM thread was having the same problem.
I managed to install the ROM itself with CWM at the first time and it booted successfully, but without Gapps. Then I changed the recovery to TWRP, and it let me install Gapps (I did a clean reinstall of the ROM and Gapps), but then it stuck on a bootloop. Edit: More details: the loop animation, green, red, blue and yellow "Google spheres" swaying, just keep repeating indefinitely. I don't know if that's a "loop" exactly, but the device doesn't seem to boot further than that.
Installed CWM back, and tried to do a fresh install once again, only ROM, which worked last time. However, the it still bootloops.
I wonder what's wrong. I'm doing a clean install, so why can't I reproduce the successful boot I did the first time...?

Are you sure it's a bootloop? It can take a while on the first boot. A bootloop is when the phone turns itself off and on repeatedly, if it's showing the animation, just wait (10mins?).
My install of the latest version went fine using TWRP (2.8.5 IIRC).

Ah, okay, then it's not bootloop. My phone just hangs indefinitely on the boot animation screen. I have waited for 30 mins, and still nothing. The strangest thing is that I tried some other ROMs ([5.1.1][Cyanogenmod 12.1][UNOFFICIAL][11.06.2015] and [UNOFFICIAL] {UBER} SlimLP 5.1.1 {-o3}), and they always hang at boot. I tried Samsung 4.4 stock ROM just a moment ago, and it booted. But it's so old, ugly and clumsy I don't want to use it. I tried installing this F-AOSP again now that the stock ROM OS booted once at least, but still no success – it always hangs on boot.
But it hardly is a fault of F-AOSP since it seems to happen with almost every ROM. I wonder if I messed something up that simple data+cache+dalvik cache wipe will not heal.
I've had the same problem and found out it's a twrp problem with recent version. Flash stock and this twrp on Odin or heimdall before flashing Rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...covery-i9305-cwm-philz-twrp-versions-t2694249
