Is there anyway to export my touchpad contacts to my PC or to me email? I want to mod the device but I need to backup my address book first.
SOLVED with a preware patch. Details here for anyone else who has this issue:

If you use Google to. Backup all your contacts, than they are saved in your Google account and you can access them from your Gmail account on a pc

This is the best way to have your contact saved. It's in the cloud so no worries about loosing your contacts everytime you update roms or even devices...
They are stored in my HP webOS Account. Anyway to export to google?
if you are using android, then just checkmark contacts in the accounts and sync option in the settings...they will be stored automatically

Switching to the Captivate. Have all my contacts backed up on my Live/Hotmail account. Anyway way to just back those up and switch it to the Cap?
The only way I can think of at the moment would be to open your internet browser and login to your hotmail account, then export your contacts to your computer which should give you a save file. Then make a gmail account (which you're going to have to do anyways to use the android market) and import your contacts to that, then you can sync them to your phone. Another step would be to setup in the Contacts app setting to automatically make any new contact save to your gmail account instead of the phone.
Sweet, just did that. Just had to export CSV from Hotmail and import the CSV to my Gmail.
Thanks!
Glad I could help

I used Titanium Backup to do a full backup, should this include contacts?
From stock 2.1 I I did the Titanium Backup. I used ROM Manager to do a backup and then flashed Cognition 4 then used Titanium Backup to restore all apps and data but this did not include my contacts.
Can I recover the contacts with what I have or do I need to flash back to the backup stock ROM and export the contacts?
If I have to restore and export then from where do I do the export?
Thanks in advance.
Contacts are saved as part of system data and you should NEVER restore any system data with TiBu unless it was backed up using the exact same ROM, and even then there have been issues with restoring system data. Did you not have your contacts synced with your Google account beforehand?

I am not sure how to sync to the Google account. I only setup the basics so I could pay for apps. I assume it would not happen automatically and I am out of luck there?

Never mind, I went into settings\Accounts and Sync and in the settings for the gmail account I turned on sync contacts. It was not checked but after I checked it, it did indeed pull my contacts from my gmail account. I have to wonder how they got there in the first place if I never set them to sync in the first place but....
Question on the gmail account though. How do you access the account directly on the phone? Should I configure the email app with the account? I receive the occasional email on the account (say when I purchase an app from the market and get a receipt) and get the notice and access it that way but I am not sure how to get into those emails on my own.
Gmail and eMail are different. Gmail should setup just by entering your Google login info. The email app is for POP3, IMAP and other mail server accounts. You shouldn't steup Gmail as an eMail account.

How do you get into the account to read messages that are sent? Right now I can only get to it if a new message is sent to me and I get a notification. I do not know how to go back to those messages at will.
You mean Gmail? Just click on the Gmail icon in the app drawer. Same with eMail.

I did not have an icon for GMail on the stock rom but I do now with Cognition. Must have deleted it accidentally.
Thanks.
After continuosly flashing my device smt I have to format so all contacs are lost,
Ususally I use the export to sd card feature to restore contacs,
I`ve tried the outlook and Kies Sync, also Google sync,
but it seems none of them is perfect, because many joined contacts and icons are lost,
Which is the best way, without using any back up Apk?
u can export ur all contacts from contacts menu...u can backup them in ur sd or sd card and copy them in ur pc and then after flashing import back the contacts......this is the best way i do.......coz in this contacts remain as same as last time.......nothing is change no pic and associated contacts of gmail and other remove.
The best was is move your contacts to your Gmail account and let them sync.
Then if you have to wipe your device you can get everything back by just entering your Gmail email address and password.

I only sync my contacts and calendar to google. Don't technically use the phone or sim at all. Every flash I add my google account again and it's all back!
That's the way to do it.
Sorry for being stupid but how do I sync my contacts to gmail

The export as stated in the second post is my way to go.

What about the joined contacts with facebook, do they come back after restore?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I use both local back up (SD ) and google sync
I prefer Google Sync .
Google sync is good, it actually can restore your contacts to early time , I backed back to SD card too but till now , I haven't use it .
Google all the way, so easy! I really can't see what the problem is!

They do in my case. Or you could try an add-on contact manager app like GOcontacts which has the capability to search for duplicate contacts and then merge.

Me too, never lost any contacts or calendar entries...
i backup phone numbers in sim and all of them in google and facebook contacts stays there as it will synch back
backup contacts to sd card.... move them to PC then export them to your gmail contacts... gmail will join same contacts.
thats it... never lose your contacts again
vCards
I often us the share option and send the contacts a vCard to my gmail, and after flashing i just go to that email and download the vCard and all my contacts are restored. The other plus in that way is that i can choose which one to sand as vCard
MyPhoneExplorer has always done it for me
1. Backup Contacts, SMS, Events
2. Installs APKs
3. File Explorer and lots more
Have never touched Kies....
I save my contacts to ext sd card

Same here, Google sync is most reliable !
try Uia backup contact
synchronising your contacts either with your google acc. or an exchange account is a very reliable solution to protect your contacts. if you setup your fon from scratch you just have to hook up to the network and get connected to your 'cloud service' - the sync function installed on your fon will do the rest in seconds / minutes.
Hi, I am using a Mac and a Galaxy Note. At work, we use Outlook for calendar and appointments. What is the best way/app to sync between Outlook and Galaxy Note? Thanks.

how many times?
Havent tried myself but something is here
iCal can sync with Google Calendar, and Outlook 2011 can sync with iCal.
So: Google Calendar --> iCal --> Outlook 2011 for Mac
1) Set up you Google Calendar in iCal.
To do this, open iCal, go to Preferences, select the Accounts tab, click the '+' (plus) sign to add an account. In the Add account dialogue, select Gmail from the drop down menu. Enter your Gmail (or Google apps) email address and password and click Create. Proceed to Outlook 2011.
2) Configure iCal sync in Outlook 2011.
Go to Outlook Preferences and choose Sync Services in the bottom of the window. Tick the Calendar check box. In the accounts window it will say 'On my computer'. This is correct, as iCal does the sync'ing to your computer.
Wait a few minutes (or perhaps close/open Outlook) to see your calendar entries appear. You can always double check that they appear in iCal first

I bet you haven't tried Google.
I wonder why the search function in PlayStore does not find this app. Using google, I found it under Google Play. However, it states that it is not compatible with my Galaxy Note! Anybody knows what is going on?

assuming you have PC at work: google calendar sync, beware - you need admin rights to install it, then it sits quietly in system tray and sync at given intervals
Hello guys
I changed my phone to z. Restored all the contacts from my old phone to new one.
After this is done. For few contacts I can't find their name or number when I search it using smart dial or phonebook search. But when that user calls me up his name n no. Flashes on the screen n stays in the call log. Later vanishes.
Could anyone help me to get all those hidden contacts.
Thank you.

Did you make a backup of all your contacts on Googleaccount on your previous phone
Sent from my C6603 using xda premium
Nope. I dint backup to a Google account.
I used wondershare mobilego.
My old phone was HTC wildfire we could not keep 2 Google accounts in it old version of android so I dint backup n dint want to mess up my primary account.
N in this phone I backed up all the contacts to a gmail account.
But I can't find it in phone.
I.e. When I try to find contacts In phone home screen last tab after favorites. Three persons icon where u can find local groups n Google account
In Google account the count is 0 , though I backed up the contacts.

Go to your contacts, optiond -> filter, expand the gmail account you used and make sure the correct group has a tick in the checkbox.
Thank you.
But in gmail account I checked all the sub fields.
When I backed up all my contacts to that gmail account.
After logging into gmail from my pc I'm able to see those contacts.
But in phone I can't find them under the Google account tab.

Re-sync maybe?
Could be duplicated numbers or names?
Sent from my C6603 using xda premium
Yup.
I had so many duplicates must be *3
Coz I had the Facebook sync on old phone.
That's the reason I used mobilego app to delete the duplicate. It worked well.
Still I have few duplicates. Very few I don't bother much with it.
But if I factory reset n sync my gmail account will I be able to restore my contacts.
I doubt coz I'm not able to find them in my phone.
I'm planning to root. So will have to be doing a factory reset many times. I'm new to root.

Sync your contacts to Google than open your gmail on your pc and check if all your contacts are there before doing a factory reset.
In gmail there is an option to merge all duplicated contacts

This happened to me too. I found out the contacts merged somehow O_O it's apparently a problem that other people have (Google it) as well. I painstakingly just unmerged every single one manually
Check if the contacts are merged!

My Z merges contacts with every single reset or flashing of the phone. Became a bit wearisome.
