V20c Rogers GB - LG Thrill 4G

After trial and error my LG thrill 4G on us att is flashed and rooted thanks to Dan and everyone envolved.
No ghost Calls. Super fast and stock. I'm getting 7 mbps. Over double what I was running v18a with samba v2.
All it needs is a good debloating.
Finally what we need is here people. Lets get it! !

Sent from my LG-P920 using xda premium

Yes flash the kdz over your current from and base band as it will replace both . Make sure to back up. After your done it sometimes will boot loop at the rogers screen.
Just boot into android recovery and do two wipes. An should be good

how do you I unroot and get gingerbread?

As my sig shows, I'm successfully flashed on the Rogers v20c and I just have to commend it. It is the first stock ROM that is speedy out the box. Idk what it is with this rom, but my internet speeds are seriously WAY better with this rom. I'm in NYC, so you would expect awesome speeds here is hspa + sadly though, through various phone I have gone through (HTC tilt, tilt2, iPhone 3, 3gs, 4, xperia x10, dell streak, captivate, infuse, HTC aria) these inlcude phones my wife had as well. But point is, the guest and best speed ibwould get was surprisingly from my trust xperia where I would get between 3-4 Mbps down, 1-1.5 up. With this rom, I'm getting 6-8Mbps down and 1.5-2 up. This is happening constantly. In the Bronx, Brooklyn and even overly crowded Manhattan, which is where I experienced my lowest in the low 4's. I'm just amazed. Now I'm really gonna get into lestats kitchen and optimize other things and see how it works out but this rom does not need much IMO. I've used it for 3 days now. Battery has been better I guess. I'm used to having to charge my phone every night. But I do notice under heavy usage it withstands the load. My phone Jan my mp3 player for my morning commute to work and home on public transportation and I use stereo Nokia Bluetooth headset.
Sorry for long post...enough said I think.?

You dont have to unroot anything.
v20c is the firmware update release by rogers canada. (its the Gingerbread update) the first GB update with a near by baseband.
Keep through the forum about flashing the v20c.kdz file.
from your tag your using rogers already? you might be able to OTA that update.

Leaked Gingerbread O3D

Hi all. At o3d thread we got a leaked GB last night. Hope some of your devs can make it work for Thrill. All progress on either handset is great

How to port GB
Does anyone know the steps to make the O3D leaked GB rom work for the Thrill? If there are any experienced devs out there, that maybe dont have the thrill to work with anymore (bc most switched to the SGS2), could give me a walkthrough or an idea of where to start that would be great! I have a machine running ubuntu, an 06 macbook pro w/ OS X Snow Leopard, and an hp running W7 and the Dev release of W8 (dual boot). I have never cooked any ROM before so i dont know what exactly i would need but i am sure i can find that info somewhere on XDA... but, the more detailed any help or ideas, the better!
Hey I have some experience porting roms and building cm7. When my donated thrill gets here next week I will look into this more.

Sweet! I look forward to seeing your work. Welcome to the Thrill.
Excellent! PM me when you start working on it. I will be more than willing to help/test...

It's running...
First backup/write down your apn & mms settings, there are lots of info here on the forums to do this, or an app like this: http://android.riteshsahu.com/apps/apn-backup-restore.
Do a full nandroid backup to your sd card to be safe.
Follow the instructions on this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331814 to get the o3d rom running on the thrill, it's a fairly long process, but not too bad.
Replace your APN and MMS settings, 4g disabled, everything else is mostly working it seems, though my wifi is a bit wonky so far.
OOOOR
Wait for a dev to build a solid custom rom!
Good luck!
Do you guys think this'll resolve wifi reception issues? I've been tolerating this crappy phone for awhile thinking GB will solve the battery issues but in the past few weeks I've been doing some business travel to Boston, Dallas and LA the GPS has been completely inadequate on all three trips. It would take up to 20 minutes to get initial GPS signal and then even when it does have GPS it would go in and out of GPS reception every minute or two. I'm so fed up with this thing. Yes, I read the 'GPS fix' thread and had already implemented the 'fix' but it's not any better.
I bought it at Costco, therefore, I'm thinking Atrix2 since the Galaxy S2 is a huge price diff. If I had the option, I'd trade it in for iPhone4S.
GPS has been working well on quite a few users phones, and I can personally attest to the the same. I also haven't had any battery issues with the phone at all. It might be a software issue or hardware, but you might want to try exchaning it for another to isolate it. For me, it has been a great phone so far, and I expect a great GB rom to only solidify this.
My wifi and gps work fantastic... you might have a dud... if its within your month swap it out... it sounds like 25% of these phones have bad bugs...
Seriously this is one of my favorite phones of all time... wouldnt say that if i had those troubles...
Sent from my LG Thrill 4G...
Gingerbread has brought some great changes to the infuse for me. Better battery life and overall performance. I would say that the same would go for the thrill. I will be getting my thrill just in time for my Las Vegas trip so I will put the stock rom with root access to the test!

Back to the topic of getting the leaked gingerbread rom running on the thrill.... has anyone else tried the instructions I posted? Would like to hear others results especially concerning wifi...
I might try it later tonight or tommorow... trying to write a research paper on precambrian evolution at the moment though.
i'll try it out and post my results hopefully by sunday though...
Its not looking good for the leaked gb running on Thrill. The rom itself will run but Apparently LG changed the baseband for gingerbread. You can install the o3d baseband and you will probablly be able to call/text. But you wont be able to use data. I NEED my data connection for sending emails out in the field so that's a big no-go for me.

Should I get a Thrill?

I currently have an HTC HD7S but being a tech head, I'm getting bored.
Is it worth getting the Thrill or is its already dead in the custom rom area?
Not dead, but calm. In actuality, though, there's been a jumpstart in posting the last couple days and a few have been promising to me. Additionally, GB is now scheduled to be released the 27th for the optimus 3d which should give the thrill a custom gb rom in days by that point. I'm days away from my trade deadline, but I'm staying pretty devoted to the phone I've decided I love. Now if only we could get a stock browser without this damn toolbar at the bottom...

I just picked mine up last Friday. I'm coming off an Atrix, and so far I'm not looking back.
The screen is fantastic, the phone is smooth, and it doesn't seem to have some of the issues the Attic suffers from.
It was between this and the Galaxy S II, and I wanted the HDMI. Also, the Thrill felt better.
Besides gimmick or not, the 3D is cool.

Thanks for the opinions. A family member of my has it and I've had the pleasure of using it. But I'm pretty much set on getting it.
Also, I was reading yesterday the ICS source code is released. Any devs interested in that?
EDIT: Honeycomb is available as well
I was going to say I don't know if I had an upgrade right now if it would be the phone I'd pick. I'd more than likely get a Note. But I've come to really like this phone and wouldn't trade it unless a Thrill with a 4.5 inch screen, 16 gig storage, and ICS came out.
Of course, then it'd still be a Thrill

Hmmmm...I downloaded xScope pro when it was the Amazon free app of the day. But I have yet to use it as my browser. Guess it's time to give it a shot.
IMO, I wouldn't waste my time on the Thrill. I stuck it out for a while thinking that LG actually gave a crap about us, just to be let down. They have committed to a Gingerbread release on the 21st to the International version. No commitment at all to the Thrill other than maybe by the end of December or early January.
With the very slow development going on it, I decided I had enough and jumped to the SGS2 Skyrocket instead. Do I miss the 3D ability?.....Of course. But I gained LTE (when available in my area) and an 8MP camera instead with increased speed over the Thrill and a lot more dev potential (and is going on already).
I would have a hard time now recommending anyone to the Thrill that cares about overall speed and performance, let alone support from the manufacturer. If someone wants 3D and doesn't mind a luke warm device, then the Thrill may suit them fine.
Just my opinion. I had such high hopes for it when I bought it.

Seriously, some people forget it's a phone. Without fast development, it's still a damn good one for now, and with development, it'll be amazing in the future. How many MP my camera is, I couldn't care less. It's more about the size of the cmos sensor than the resolution, and the only phone I'll trade for when it's available, nexus of course, will have one nice 5mp cam. Samsung let me down for way too long with my craptivate, so I can wait a bit for GB again. As for the O3D version, that'll be close enough. Oh, by the time LTE reaches my house (and most), I'm sure I'll be eligable for another upgrade. Loving this phone, despite my few hates.

Ask yourself this question: Do I want ROM selection? The answer to the title of this thread is the opposite of your answer to that question.
If you don't flash ROMs, the Thrill is better than the Atrix or Atrix 2, its definately the best phone in the <$99 price range. But for a little more the GS II (i777 not skyrocket, the skyrocket will be only slightly less of a ghost town than here) is teasing you with so many ROM choices it will burn a hole in your SD card.

The funny thing is Ive got all the bugs worked out of my Thrill. The thing has ZERO issues for me. I cant think of a single reason not to recommend the Thrill. I could care less about a selection of Roms. Most are just re-themes of the same..exact..thing. All I need is one solid rom and Im golden. That was the thing I LOVED about my Aria. For the longest time there were only 2-3 roms available for it but they were all rock solid and offered everything you could get out of a rom. We had ONE kernel available to us, but it worked flawlessly, so we didnt need anymore kernels. Move along to the Captivate and while I had 200,000 roms to choose from none of them felt finished, half of them were the same rom I had just flashed with a different battery icon, and they all had issues. Even CM7 for the Captivate never felt as solid as it did on my Aria. I never ended up being happy with my Captivate even though it was the "superior "phone to my Aria.
The Thrill is a solid phone. It had a lot of issues upon release and a LOT of people didnt stick around because of that. Gingerbread is here, and from what ive been hearing its already made the Thrill into even more of a beast and its only a pre-release leak (unfortunately I dont have a Windows machine so I cant flash the baseband to even try it ). And with the ICS source released we will have ICS fairly quickly. Gingerbread was a tough port due to ZERO Omap4 devices running it (it wasnt just the Thrill) so we had to try to start from scratch, but the first ICS device has almost the exact CPU (higher clockspeed and better imaging capabilities) and the GPU IS the same. That alone will kickstart development of ICS as we can port ICS rather than try to build it from scratch.
But enough of my ranting Im going to sleep!

Announcing Doomed Gingerbread

Well I think its pretty much a go. I am making a gb rom. Don't expect it tonight and I will link to all necessary threads so everyone can get the baseband on their phone. I will also be making a GB kernel to enhance the rom. That's about it for now, in the interim why not download a nice Doomed Froyo rom? You have 2 to choose from, you can use the supplied overclocked kernel or flash the stock non overclocked LG kernel which you can find a flashable zip in my Doom kernel thread. I swear its really fast and awesome.

This is an excellent idea because waiting for AT&T is making me impatient. Can't wait for this release. We can make this an XDA "official" gingerbread release for LG Thrill and send an article to AT&T with members feedback listed
Will this rom have AT&T APN's included? I switched over to gingerbread, never backed them up. Now I've been stuck on edge :S
I can see about tweaking the APN settings. As of now my focus is on the kernel. GB rom will be coming soon enough once all testing is done. Rdannar posted a GB rom I do believe in dev section you can check that one out for now if you can't wait.

Were you stuck on edge from the beginning with GB? Because it might be the tower in your area and the euro baseband just don't mix.

Hrmmm, is there anyway to switch it back to US basebands?
I'm in Montana, got 4G before this.
Umm not sure if there is a US kdz posted or not. You might be able to recover using lg update. I am not sure though. Anybody have any info on this? I have never had to restore my phone like that and I can't remember if there is a US kdz file uploaded or not. Hope you can get it fixed, sorry I can't be of more help.

You've already helped enough informing of this. It completely blew past my mind that flashing a europian baseband would make the phone not compatible with the US frequencies.
Thanks again man, honestly. But gingerbread is too good to give up for edge. I don't think i'll be able to live without visidons face unlock

The apn only gives you the ability to get data. no matter what apn you use it won't matter unless the radio supports the tower frequency.
I understand this, I just have a hard time comprehending the Optimus 3D / Thrill rom flashing. I come from flashing captivates, fascinates, inspires, arias, a loooong long list.
First LG phone though.
I kinda thought that even though it's European it would support US frequencies.
Well I went ahead and flashed GB. So far I have to say not bad at all. I get good signal everything works and it is pretty smooth. I like being able to have a system wide EQ I installed DSP manager from CM7 works great. So now that I have it flashed to my phone next step is to make a rom. Kind of nice too, with it being p920 it has data toggle instead of airplane mode and you can just install cwm through rom manager. I had no trouble rooting the phone or getting cwm installed. From flash to cwm took maybe 10-15 minutes. Signal will vary since it is euro baseband. Hell this is unbranded so I may just keep this and when US GB comes out just flash the US baseband and call it a day. Just thought I would give you guys a heads up that Doomed Ginger is getting closer.

Forums getting quiet for the Thrill lately :(

I am getting worried that the forums have been pretty quiet for a week or so. I know we are all impatiently waiting for GB (or at least a f'ing baseband) but has everyone given up? This is my first Android phone and I stuck by it and I will have to keep this phone for quite some time so I am getting nervous. With LG saying ICS will be coming to the Thrill, GB shouldnt be a question. Unless LG/AT&T say screw GB and go straight to ICS. Which could be good or bad, depending on how long they would take to get ICS done. If they would just release a GB baseband none of this would matter. Bad business.

is there really for h+? link me please!
I guess everything that can be done has been done so far. Im just really upset at the update process of Android phones. I should have looked into this more as opposed to jumping right in. If it wasnt for the reception issues with the current GB roms I would be fine. I love Android, love this phone, but fragmentation and battery life are making me think twice about this OS.

Convert LG THRILL TO OPTIMUS 3D

So as many of us know, there are a bunch of GB roms for LG Optimus 3D and i belive just one for the Lg thrill. When i tried installing a GB baseband for my trill, it bricked. To make long story short, unbricking it meant installing LG optimus 3d firmware and that turned my phone into an lg-p920 from a lg-p925. In froyo 2.2.2 , i stood about 400 ft from a cell tower and i was pulling down 5.8mbps and pushing up 1.1Mbps. BUT that wasnt enough. I still wanted gingerbread so things were made easier since every software saw my "thrill" as an optimus 3d. After installing a custom GB rom for the optimus 3d and manually entering AT&T's apn, I am getting descent 3g speeds of 5Mbps down and 1Mbps up from my house. Im not too close to a cell tower, but I will see the speeds when i am close again to the cell tower.
The new gingerbread update also enables 21.1Mbps Backhaul from 14Mbps. If you want to do the same, PM me. If you want to wait for official ginger for the thrill, then its ok.
Just wanted to let you guys know. Ill be making a youtube video with my super bad camera, but i believe you will probably be able to make out the numbers.
Thanks for reading guys. God bless you guys and keep on hacking!
To tell you the truth, the baseband makes very little difference.
I tested each with SpeedTest and I pulled 10mbps down and 2mbps.
It's most likely my location though.
