I've read around and some Galaxy models like SGS2 and Note have this thing called Flash Counter. Each time a custom kernel is flashed via Odin, this counter increases with +1. So, the myth with flashing back stock when going to warranty is not applicable as they will know and warranty is voided. Does our model have Flash counter ? Can it be reseted ?
Nope
There is no flash counter on the Samsung Galaxy S at all.
The reason why I know this is because I have taken my phone to the service center a few times for a replacement battery, a replacement camera module and they don't even know that i've flashed my phone so many times

I have a Samsung Galaxy S through Virgin Mobile. Last night i updated it via Samsung Kies the phone started malfunctioning and became un responsive. I flashed it with stock firmware I found and then tried to do the update again but this time the update has caused my Galaxy S to go through an endless boot cycle it keeps booting the logo over and over and will not respond to a computer connection or the 3 button reset method.

Last night i updated it via Samsung Kies the phone started malfunctioning and became un responsive.
= WARRANTY REPAIR NO PROBLEM
I flashed it with stock firmware
Warranty now invalid .
best method is to use recovery jig flash stock firmware for your region via Odin and hope that a service centre will update it for you under warranty .
Actual rom that came with the phone unless you backed it up very hard to find .
Canada / North America thread might be worth a post asking for the required rom ..

Thanx going to order the parts tonight and hopefully have the phone up and running by this time next week
Hey everyone,
I'm wondering what the official firmware for the GT-I9000 is in the UK (not carrier specific) because I'm sending my phone off for repairs in the next few days, and it's the only thing voiding my warranty.
Thanks
P.S: The ROM etc in sig are incorrect.
I believe it's still JVO
I had to return my Galaxy S for repair. I was told that if it did'nt have stock on it, then I'd be out of luck. As it happens, I'd totally bricked it (turned out to be a hardware faults - not sure I wasn't partially to blame - flashing on partial battery !)
Anyway it had a custom Froyo on it as well as a custom kernel. They repaired it and returned it with Gingerbread 2.3 JVO, which is, I believe the most recent version available from Samsung. If you can throw that on it, then hopefully you'll be OK - or maybe you will get away with whatever is on it at the moment !
At the moment it's on JVP, so I can easily flash to JVO
thanks for the help, I think I'll put JVO stock on it and see what happens when I send it in for repair
Good luck
Please let us know how it goes.
Hi Guys,
i new here, so pordon me, if i done something stupid.
My SGSL is about 2 months old, and it have warranty of 3 years.
But i can't wait for 3 years than only try the GB firware,
So, i done that. (i mean flash the firware)
First, i try out the GB firmware of I9003XXKPE, (after that, i only know it can't revert to stock rom)
So, i look all over the forum to find the way to flash back Froyo but not luck at all.
Than, base on my 2 month leanning from XDA, i try the below,
1. PIT the phone
2. flash the XXKPE
3. flash again the stock rom of DXKB2
i get back my i9003DXKB2!!
so now, 1 unknow issus, will samsung warranty still valid?
yes it will. no one will ever know that you tried a little gingerbread.
just read this link --->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1004622 and you will know how to reflash back your firmware version
and with regards to the warranty issue just read this link also --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1174085
Okay! Hey there,
I am from India. One of my friends lost the "application" menu and hence went to the service center. He had XXKPE Firmware on the phone and they repaired the phone under warranty ( free of cost) and also he gave them the XXKPE FW files and they flashed that FW only for him...! IDK, it is luck or what!
Afaik the Sgs service centre in Chennai, they only ask for the purchase bill or a copy of it, and they didn't bother wot lies on the fon! My personal experience after messing up two brand new Galaxy Apollo & this one the very second wk of buying it!

Hi,
i need to know if i go for custom rom i will lose waranty of my samsung,if I restore stock rom what was on phone.....waranty will be still usable or no?
Anyone know how to sim lock to provider network?
Thanks
Anything requires ROOT or it ROOTS your device is avoiding your warranty, I guess so!, and switching back to default ROM is more like a restore, and it removes the "Superuser" or any ROOT their, so I think warranty gets back..
I don't really know the answer for your second question..
Rooting voids your warranty.. Now it comes down to can samsung find out if you've rooted or not.. For me, I've fried the memory chips twice with my sgs so they had no way of finding out i was rooted and i got warranty..
Thanks for rply...
But anyone know how to lock sim on provider because if need repair phone i must go too provider and i guess if phone are unlocked I will lose waranty?

Here's my situation. As you can see my GPS does not lock on my N7000 and could not even find a satellite. I've tried a lot of fixes from the play store including AGPS patches. even modified gps.conf from system/etc though i backed up the original one. unfortunately GPS wont lock. I've flashed Angry Vt1 with the OTA update before. but I thought restoring to an earlier and stock rom would help, I restored to IMM76D.DXLR5 build with N7000DXLR1 baseband flashed Philzdxlr safe kernel with my Note but still it doesnt lock only finds my location if i turn on the mobile data but whenever I use a Navigation app "waze" and Google Maps the location where I turn it on doesnt move while im driving.
I Live here in the Philippines i even tried changing the NTP server to ph.pool.ntp.org unfortunately no results. Tried rebooting like hell nothing helped. I found some Stock ICS roms from "dr.ketan" for my country though it has a carrier indicated in it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
like this:
N7000DXLR5---4.0.4/12.07.30-N7000OLBLR2---Download--Philippines (Sun)
N7000DXLP9---4.0.3/12.05---N7000OLBLP6---Download--- Philippines (Sun)
N7000DXLR5---4.0.4/12.07.30-N7000OLBLR2---Download--Philippines (Smart)
N7000DXLP9---4.0.3/12.05---N7000OLBLP6---Download--- Philippines (Smart)
ive not tried it since im afraid its carrier is locked to the indicated one.does it?
I used to own another N7000 which ran CM10, PAJELLYBAM. but sold it since I have a new Note with ongoing warranty. which I had no problems with its GPS. unfortunately i cant recall what stock rom was in my new note for restocking purposes since i impulsively flashed Angry VT1. i experienced ANGRY VT1 and im never going back to Cyanogen.
So it ends with my basic question for my pursuit of the fix does reflashing other stock roms from other country will fix my gps? currently im downloading JZO54K.N7000XXLSC which was posted by chronosmachine http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1992573 i wanted XXLSC as stock since ill return back to ANGRYvt1 rom. Does anyone know whats the best stock rom there is? (what i mean best is the fewest issues that goes with the rom, so that maybe i could put an end to this gps dilemma)
Any ideas anyone?
Thank you and good day:good:
Today i tried another fix which is more about the innards of my note. Prying it open and slightly bending the gps antenna. Still nothing. Sigh. I found it in the at&t gnote thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1973727 i was convinced to do it because almost everyone who did it Worked. Im sending it to a service center later im afraid its hardware issue like the gps module.
Question if you have a device which is rooted with a voided warranty will the official samsung service center still repair your phone? Or do i still have to restock and unroot?(im sorry if i voided it myself i just like learning at whatever cost)

Gps will not be affected by flashing different rom, maybe radio will affect it but does sound like hardware problem. If you're sending it in, you'll need to flash stock gb rom via pc odin after erasing flash counter. Service won't honour warranty if it has raised flash counter and/or root.
You don't need to unroot, just flashing 3 part stock rom will remove root.

It's probably best to flash one with your csc that was on it originally. In theory you can flash any but to be safe as houses, best to stick with the original csc. If you don't know your original csc (I'm guessing phillipines doesn't have its own?) then any will do.
