Check the tutorial in
Chef Central>android
Contains all you need. Kinda dumb question
Greets!
I'm not a fake.
I prefer people to reply to me and give feedback instead of thanking me!
But thanking me does show if you apreciate my works.

I actually cooked up ics with sense 3.5.1
The kernels hell on this

Yes you can. There are different steps you need to take depending on if your phone is stock,un-locked,rooted etc.

Why would he get flamed? He asked a simple question so why not give him a simple answer?

Everyones a noob at one time.I help anyone i can no matter what or how little info is in there question.Telling someone to edit there post is in noway helping them.
Woody, it was a suggestion based on the fact that tensions are high here. We have lost at least 2 devs recently, with the last precisely because of too many noob questions/complaints. It is a developer's forum so it is a reasonable expectation that posters are knowledgeable. I'm not criticizing him, just pushing him to go read a little. A quick glance at the stickies would lead him to more than one thread that would answer his question. Users should at least exhaust the basics before asking for help.
Anyhow, your sentiment is good; It is great of you to offer help. If he edited his post or posted a followup with more info, I too would have offered help. But if we want XDA to survive, and in particular, the Vivid section, we have to maintain some minimum expectations.

Needs some testers for my toolkit. I have a nice treat for you!

I have a good treat for you guys. Just need testers to test this new feature in my toolkit. This can brick your phone and I won't be held responsible.
If you are willing to test this for me, PM me for details and I will give you info. If you wanna do it, I'll send you the info you need.
Thanks!

Look at my signature. You can see what it does. The new feature that I am having testers use is not updated in the threads though.
Testing has been closed. Thank you to those who have helped as well as those who have expressed interest. It did not work so I will revise my toolkit with the newly implemented UI soon.
The feature that was in testing was to flash ROMs all through fastboot without the need of using recovery. So basically my toolkit would be your all-in-one tool from unlocking your bootloader to installing a custom ROM to your phone without even touching your phone at all.
I will continue to figure a way to make it happen. I just have to work with other devs to get more knowledge on how this all works.

Gonna try to become a developer . :)

Hey man, good stuff! I've been a developer for years, but just getting into Android dev as of late. Good luck with the Sense 4 stuff.
same here ^_^ working on my first rom.. already did some framework-res mods and stuff xo but yeahh it is dead around here we need more devs .!
I was thinking about this too. Where does one learn? As in, what are some good books to buy on the subject? Thanks in advance.

Depends entirely on what your experience is. There's a big difference between learning to cook having never cooked a thing in your life, and learning to cook French cuisine if you're already a master sushi chef.
I'll play it safe and say I've never cooked a thing in my life, but my dad is also a system engineer and could help if I needed it. I'd rather learn without his help.

Start with an RUU. Run the RUU on your PC. Stop at the first screen after it's done loading, don't proceed, but don't close the window. Start/Run and type %TEMP% and hit enter (this will take you to your user temp folder). Sort the folders by date and open the newest. Here you should find Rom.zip. Use this as your base ROM in the kitchen. Root it, deodex it (or not), zipalign it, etc - and you end up with a flashable ROM from an RUU

New Dev

I would like to start developing roms and apps. How do I get started? I have experience coding in Java and C but I assume Linux is much tougher. Can anyone hook me up with the resources I need? Tutorials? Tips?

If you want to start making roms, you should start here: http://xda-university.com/
I'm also just new into this and it's really usefull.
Happy to see more people trying to get into developing, especially when it's for the vivid

Recommended ROMs

Hi everyone,
Apologises if this is in the wrong section but my question is about TIMe so I think it is.
I received my awesome HTC One today and I was wondering if anyone can recommend any decent ROMs for this device, I've had a look at some threads but I'm not exactly sure what makes a good ROM.
Thanks in advance!

If everyone did that, how would any of the lesser known devs become known?
Yes, popular threads are generally a good place to start but we should always try others ROMs aswell just incase others are more suited to our style.
Hello Joe.Tolchard,
We usually close these types of threads because they just turn into everybody posting the ROM they happen to currently be on. The only way to go about this is to read the threads and find you a good guide and jump right in!
