Just go to the dev section and search for the root thread and follow the derictions..then go to hash's website and download safestrap and install it and download cm9 beta 1 or 2 (it doesn't matter which since you're on verizon) and ics gapps that are linked on hash's website then reboot into safestrap recovery (you do this by rebooting normally then when it says press menu you press it) then switch to safe system..then flash cm9 then gapps then boot and enjoy
P.s. we don't have an unlucked bootloader yet

Sorry if this has been mentioned in another post somewhere on the forum, but I am curious about something. Now that we can unlock our bootloaders, does this mean we can revert to ICS?
I understand more about rooting and whatnot, but not so much about the bootloader other than it's purpose.
Yes. We just need to disable the bugging my friend is getting about updating to 4.1 every 6 hours.

What all have you tried? I'm about to flash ICS and figured I'd ask so save me the trouble of doing what's already been done.
Also, Bell or one of the AT&T's?

Is it a "yes", we can flash back to ICS from OTA JB? Which method, fastboot or RSDLite?

Fastboot
I have step-by-step instructions for doing this in the HOW TO thread. Just read the top two paragraphs about using root and the special fastboot for Motorola devices and you'll be just fine -- most of the help I've given was because no one bothered to read them.
Now that I have figured out how to revert back to ICS and this thread provides no actual helpfulness, that isn't already posted elsewhere, a mod can delete it. Thanks for the help Skeevy.

I think the process is: unlock bootloader, flash recovery, flash ROM, done. ROM should have root access by default.
That's if you don't mind leaving stock stock.

Ok there is some root process that requires "S - Off" before you can even root your phone... don't know what that means... :/

That can't be used yet because only a few limited people have S-Off. Use the tutorial thread in development forum and that gives you a step by step guide of how to do it all.

Make sure you are flashing a 'super user' like software from cmd before you flash a new Rom, and I suggest having clock work mod recovery flashed, I currently have the touch one, but I think I prefer the classic. Some new roms are buggy with the touch

I unlocked and rooted my regular Sprint 32GB M7 and it went really smoothly - I used the All-In-One program with the Sprint version and there is a special Sprint SuperSU version that needs to be used for Sprint. I paid $200. for this phone - don't see any need for developer edition of phone.
---------- Post added at 09:46 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:41 AM ----------
Also I used the TWRP (TeamWin Recovery Project) for my recovery and it works really smooth. Phone shows S-On - not sure what the difference would be if S-Off was showing.
Hello fellow members, i have successfully rooted my 4x and want to install a custom rom.. i read threads and got to know about that we have to install clockword mod recovery first and then the rom but on searching i could only find the cmw which is not meant for v20a.. what should i do ?

You can download official CWM recovery. Search here: http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager for LG Optimus 4X HD.
Then you can install with terminal, fastboot or sth else - I don't remeber well.
Then the fun starts. (On XDA look for ROMs and kernels)
And read the instructions carefully.
Unlock ur bootloader 1st!

Agreed but after reading posts on how to install, it requires an unlocked bootloader. is it necessary or can it be done without unlocking bootloader ?

It can be done without unlocked bootloader, but then you will be unable to install custom ROMs. So if you're on stock JB, unlock bootloader if you want (warrany will be woid).
That's not hard first you must root tour phone then install rom manager choose tour phone from it flash recovery reboot in it then flash zip file that's all

First you need to unlock your bootloader after that you can Install CWM or TWRP.
After doing all this you can Instal CM or any other ROM.
If you try to install the CWM or TWRP without unlocking the bootloader you will get the boot signature error and you won't be able to boot into recovery (please correct me if I am wrong.)
Don't Forget to make nondorid backup before you try installing any ROM in case you know what I mean
and next time post it in Q & A thread please..
Have fun mate.
yes you will get an boot image signature if you install cwm or twrp with locked bootloader
the only way to flash a custom rom on an locked bootloader is to adjust the rom to the stock kernel and device and the flash it via a bootstrap( like dexter did it)
but nobody is going to do it if you have tje possibility to unlock your BL seems that you have to stay at stock rom if you don't have the know how how to do it

It's not a trick, but it is pointless for a high end device as all it will do is increase lag and kill the SD Card due to the high amount of writes.
Well... I was using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818502 and it works.

Now I'm stuck. Some help please?

You really haven't given much informaton to go on. Basics with any help request;-
What are you trying to achieve?
What version are you running?
What ROM were you on before?
Rooted?
Bootloader locked or unlocked?
What recovery have you installed?
EXACT error message - this is the single most important detail!!
There are plenty of guides around if you are trying to get from 'Stock' to CM10.1;-
Upgrade to 'Stock' JB first
Root
Unlock bootloader
Install CWM (v6.0.3.1)
Install CM from zip
Install gApps from zip
.....
Profit

Highlighted in red for a very good reason. You'll need to reflash your stock v10e first, yet again there are guides on how to do this. Once you have the phone back up and running on v10e then read carefully and make sure you understand all the steps before trying again
