[Q] Simple guide for Upgrading (not rooting) to GB? - LG Optimus Black

Hey there,
I know this is a developers forum which is not intended to cover the very basics. However, I've been searching the internet, and here, to no avail, trying to find a simple guide to how to upgrade my LGP970 to Gingerbread. Having a UK version of the phone, no update has yet come through the LG B2C tool -- this tool also consistently fails to open these days (error message: "Please, check your internet line and execute program again" -- infuriating).
So, I'm not looking to root my phone; I'm not interested (for the time being) in CWM. All I'd like is GB official version on my LGP970. I understand I have to download the .kdz file (I'm guessing Europe Open is my best bet). What I don't know is the appropriate way to use this file to upgrade my phone.
There are lots of guides on here, all seemingly aimed at users wishing to root their phones; I can't find anything for those who just want to upgrade without rooting.
I apologise if this is too much of a n00b thing to be asking about, but any help or direction elsewhere would be very much appreciated. Thank you

Go to my guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487105
Scroll down to unbricking, and use the R&D method. First download the UPK (link is there as well) then follow the second link to the work around. Set it all up, download your KDZ, I guess europe open will be fine, flash it and be happy ever after

Oh, and when you say the second link to the workaround, do you mean this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473781
Thanks

well, there is an easy way, you can use LGMobile Support Tool to update your device.

KDZ_FW_UPD_EN, you can download it .

Well, see there's two problems I have with the Support Tool: 1. I often get the error message I mentioned above; 2. My phone is a UK model for which LG still haven't released v20x, so I can't officially go through that app anyway.
What did you mean about 'KDZ_FW_UPD_EN' ?
Thanks

Yes it can root V20f and ALL other gingerbread versions. Please click the title to watch on the video page to avoid problems. I have edited the video to now explain the superuser.zip steps. When you enter recovery, you will see "wipe data/ factory reset" and "wipe cache" on the main screen. "wipe dalvik cache" in located under advanced. As for what keys to press, if you have normal CWM volume+ and volume- scroll, power button I believe is enter. Hope this helped.

Un ur tutorial u told to select CP bin (.fls file) and AP bin (.bin file)
But, just check the link, here in XDA forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23788913&postcount=170)
It is reverse.
Actually, I smart flashed today following XDA forum well, everything went well
So, I think it is best to modify the video and change instruction in PDF or something in ur posts, it will be helpful for Noobs
And also I previously asked how to install superuser.zip in CWM, plz add that also in video (i struggled somewhat when smart flashing), but succeded on my own

I flashed my phone with the .fls first (under CP bin) and the .bin (Ap bin) second. Also, the PDF was not created by me, I used that guide to flash my phone and it worked. So it must work either way. Also I already have added how to add the superuser.zip in the annotations. You have to watch the video on the video page to see the full annotations. Thanks

Thank you very much for this video tutorial. I appreciate you taking the time to make it. I would like to point out a few things that I hope will clarify and help someone else:
- When you copy the "Superuser.zip" to the SD card - make sure you do not put it in any folders by accident. This is what is meant by "putting the Superuser.zip in to the root of the SD card."
- There was no verbal instruction or comment appended to the video that instructs you when to re-insert the SD card. I had started the steps to wipe before I realized I needed to insert the SD card. So, I believe you can put the SD card back in to the phone after you see the ClockWorkMod screen. Please consider editing your video to include a comment so guide people to do this.
- I had to read the comments left in the thread to find out how to get to the "wipe dalvic cache" option. I would like to suggest that you modify your comments left on the youtube video to more concisely point out how to get to each wipe option. Also, please consider stating that the Power button is used as an "enter" command, and that the volume up and down buttons are for navigating the options.
Again, thanks for the instruction - as a visual learner, this greatly assisted me.
THANKS!!
:crying:I have been looking for a few weeks on how to do this with great uncertainty weather or not I would brick the phone by rooting it. This tutorial IS GREAT!! Thanks so much for posting it. [Q] Bad Signal Quality After Moving to USA

Hi,
I have SGS GT-I9000, I bought it from Middle East and it was working fine over there.
But now, after I moved to USA, I am having very bad signal quality over here; 3G is impossible and 2G has very bad signal.
How can I fix this?
I have Android v2.3.3
Thanks in advance...
Try using a different modem. I cant suggest one for the US since im from Europe..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158783
Thanks...
But I am newbie, can anyone suggest which modem to use. Appreciate if I can get the link to download the modem and a guide on how to install it!
Well,, it depends on the state ur in,why dont u ask for a suitable modem for ur location in the thread i just linked.
Steps how to install:
1.Download the modem .zip file.
2.Place it on your sd cards root.
3. Reboot to recovery.
4. Select install zip from sd card.
5. Navigate to the downloaded file and select it.
6. It asks do you want to install. Select yes.
7. Wait till its done, navigate back to CWM main menu and select Reboot system.
Hi,
Since I am new to the forums, I am not able to post in thread you linked!
That's why I appreciate if you can tell me which modem is suitable for me.
I live now in USA-Texas-Dallas and my SIM card is from T-Mobile USA.
Thanks a lot for your support...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1870460 here are the codes for different modems

Cant really help u.. i dont have a clue which modem will work for u.. just post around the forums a bit and then u can ask yourself.. u need 10 post till u get the rights to post on the thread, so 7 posts to go
OK, I found the code for T-Mobile USA (UV) but I am not able to map it with any modem; still don't know which modem to download/use
BTW, does implementing any modem will erase all my data or not?
Thanks again!
Dude just try one. U wont lose any data, etc by flashing a modem
---------- Post added at 08:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:50 PM ----------
For e.g try this one http://cyanogenmod.nl/files/Samsung Galaxy S/CM10/Modem Radio/ZSJPG_ICS.CM.I9000.zip
---------- Post added at 08:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:50 PM ----------
Just follow the instructions i gave u and u will be good.. after flashing come back here and report ur results.
Finding the optimal modem , u just have to try a bunch of them and compare
Thank you so much; I will try it and get back to you...
No problemo. Pm me if u have troubles
Sorry for late reply...
I was trying to install the modem as per the instruction above, but I hit another problem:
When I entered recovery mode, there was no option saying "install zip from sdcard", but there is a similar option, saying "install update from sdcard", when I chose that and selected the modem file, it says:
Signature verification failed
Installation aborted
How can I proceed?

Alt. Root method for H811 10N

Hey guys, need some serious help. I have been stuck for two days trying to root 10N. It just won't work. I've tried the method detailed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-g4/development/h81110n-stock-rooted-image-t3191038.
But it constantly says fail when I try to run the " dd if=/data/media/0/rootedsystem.img bs=8192 seek=65536 count=548352 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0" command.
I've uninstalled ALL Android drivers on my laptop, tried a second laptop, it's just not working. I read that Windows 10 may cause issues. Is there any other way to root? I have searched but mostly come up with threads about the update before or after this one. Thanks for any help!
UPDATE: Still no luck, I have tried a different set of ADB drivers, and that is not working either. For some reason the recovery will not push. I tried manual and with the One Click..
Had success with this method here http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-g4/general/how-to-unlock-bootloader-flash-twrp-t3344421
UPDATE: Nope.. Brick city.. back to the drawing board.

Is there a specific reason your sticking to 10N opposed to using a KDZ to update to 20i or 20o? Both of which are fairly easier to unlock, get root, and TWRP due to MM making the phone switch back over to classic Fastboot operations opposed to the LG Send Tool.
If you want to go this route visit this thread. The same steps apply regardless of which KDZ you use. Be it 20i or 20o.

Patch DLL to be compatible with LGUP (US Unlocked Model)

Attached is a copy of the LGUP_common.dll extracted from the US Unlocked LG V40 model. I was wondering if anybody had knowledge on patching it so it would work with LGUP. Currently when it is used, LGUP runs into DLL for V405QA11b is not installed properly. Please, install a DLL package(*.msi). for the model. I just want to run a fresh restore on my device. The DLL version should read 1,0,38,3 as it does in LG Flash Tool.
If someone manages to patch the dll or modify it that it does work this might open up the possibility or closer to the possibility of rooting as well

No this is a separate issue. LGUP simply does not work with the V40 DLL from what I have tested. Even the V30, all LGUP needed was the LGUPc.dll file extracted from the kdz renamed to LGUP_common.dll and placed in the model/common folder of LGUP for it to work, however for some reason with the V40 it seems to not be the case. It should be some HEX editing to the DLL (I would try to look into it and do it myself if I weren't so busy), to make it compatible with LGUP. Rooting is an entirely different matter. The US unlocked V40, at least has the ability to boot into fastboot, which leaves the possibility of LG opening the ability to unlock the bootloader. Once that is done, then all we need is a TWRP build, which honestly is the least of our problems. As for the other variants, it really depends on a vunerability being found that can be used. Currently I am downloading the other two firmwares that were posted, seeing if their DLL's have anything that may solve this, but the download speeds for those two KDZ's are painfully slow, and I don't think I will be able to do anything with them up to at least this weekend.

I am pretty sure we use a hex editor and find all instances of partition dl and switch all the values to true i think only bcheck is false by default and add store in front of the dev thats just my theory its a lot of work to do but if someone wants to try you can. I might be wrong there is no info anywhere about patching dll's and also changing value to true changes size of dll i dont know if that matters or not.

I see. I was going to see the differences in between the old DLL's that worked straight from extraction and this one which doesn't to see if I could "patch" it so it would using IDA pro, but I'm pretty busy and haven't looked into this stuff before so yeah also kind of reluctant on wasting time, like as you said there really isn't much info on this stuff. But because flash too, an older tool than LGUP, recognizes the dll and its versioning. So there must at least be some similarities or if its the worst case scenario it only shares some version variable.

I can probably end up finding one, as I have most the V30 KDZs for the H933, and I think there are patched DLL's lying around XDA, but the problem here with the V40 DLL is that it doesn't work straight from extraction of the kdz. The first step is to get it working and then the second step is getting it working with the dev options.
Hello everyone. Any updates in the correct DLL for LGUP V40? Thanks

I was going through the dll in hex editor and i notice there was an error code saying something about lgup version lower then 1.16 so maybe the key is getting newer version of lgup. the problem is 1.15 isnt even accessible.

Have you tried editing that check? I honestly was more or less waiting on an official bootloader unlock, but it doesn't seem like thats coming for the US Unlocked model...

@theelite @awireless , I'm not sure if you have given up hope on this, but I have the information you need on how to do this. A good friend of mine from China sent me something he found on how to flash a pie KDZ to the LG G7, but the document was in chinese so I couldn't really understand it, but I noticed it detailed the process of how to unlock LGUP in the same way you wanted to enable cross-device flashing, etc. I've done my best to translate and consolidate the document for ease of use. If no one has the time to do this, I will get to it when I have time off from work.
