Hi...I've been reading through everything regarding Google vs. Cyanogen dispute. IMHO I feel very sad about it but....what can we do?? I like CM ROMS they are probably the best (I'm not saying JF, HAYKURO, etc, are bad, just that I prefer CM) but since all the C&D issue Gmail, Gtalk, Market, don't work..Well
Well the thing is, I've read some comments that on CM Versions up to 4.0.4 everything still works fine...it just gets messy from 4.1.x and up, is this true??
cause I still have 4.0.4 in my computer and I really want to flash it to this version...so please let me know..
Thanks!
We are all done talking about the C&D. There are plenty of threads about it. Download CyanogenMod Petition off the market to show support.
As for his ROMs 4.04 is stable. Nice ROM with lots of themes for it. 4.1.11.1 was days away from being stable. It is pretty stable. The only problems I have noted is some apps arnt supported with 1.6 firmware base. And sometimes my icons just disapear from my home screen but, after reboot its fine for another 24 hrs.
2 things really
1. you have a valuable pm
2. ummm 4.1.11.1 hasn't given me any problems except once out of a week or so i have been using it, i got the coma issue and had to reboot. also anything you have on your computer is well.... on your computer, is google going to stop every one they see with a g1 and go to settings- about phone and see if there a cyanogen mod version number there.
I think I didn't make my self very clear, when I ask if it is giving any problems I refer to the Market, Gmail, Gtalk still workin with CM version 4.0.4...that is the real question
i use gtalk all the time in 4.1.11.1. the market works just fine for me. gmail registers my emails on my phone faster then it does on my computer. i don't use maps to often (unless i go out of state, i know where i am going), so i haven't had a need to use it in 4.1.11.1, but it still should work.
I literally mean the only i have had with 4.1.11.1 is that one instance of the coma occurring. i have had no problems with anything else that is rom specifically related, the only thing that isn't the roms fault is that some of the apps are not 1.6 compatible, but again, not the fault of the rom.
I Understand
I get what you are saying. Google has no way of detecting that you are using an "unauthorized" ROM. Flash away. Except for the "coma" issue (was wondering what that was called), 4.1.11.1 is pretty nice. I prefer 4.0.2 over 4.0.4 for the stable but that's just me. Anyway, why not wait. Cyan has a surprise for everyone this weekend.
Im looking for a way to run a camera control software for nikon DSLRs on my note. However theese apps all are tablet software for android 3+. They run just fine on the cyanogen alpha, but that rom is too far from daily use even for bleeding edge enthusiasts, like most of us here. Thus, until now I have been forced to reflash everytime i need to control the camera with the phone.
Now several ICS ROMs have emerged, but those I have tested, though stable enough, refuse to work with USB on the go devices. The notice about the OTG cable show up all right ob them all, but they do not detect anything attached to the other end of it like in gingerbread and cyanogen alpha.
Is there a way i could fix this by copying some files from the cyanogen ROM over to one of the other ROMs? If so, which files would that be?
It's a kernel related issue. This means that we have to wait for Chainfire to get back from his vacation and tackle this problem. Or some other kernel dev.
Nothing we can do about it right now.
Ok, though i am a novice in the world of android hacking, that is not the case, at all, regarding linux kernel hacking. Setting up a cross compiling dev environment and moving a driver from one kernel source to another or compiling a module is actually less unfamiliar to me than trixing around with binaries from different beta releases. If that is the case i might be up to it. But that would only work if the source code, or at very least the kernel headers are available for the kernels used in the betas.

hi:
i installed android on wifes machine months ago.. some things worked better than webos (wireless printer support etc).
some things didnt work atall and seemed like no interest from hard working devs. (video iirc and camera over skype etc.)
wife just wanted stable fully working os and seemed at the time webos was more fully baked.
soo, i cannot find progress report / status on touchpad + android.. is isc fully operational now?.. i do see that jb is getting energy, is ics abandoned ?
and what about webos -- progress on hp releasing what they promised to make dev work easier or even possible?
any linx / help / etc greatly appreciated
sorry , i probly miss the obvious
thanx

In the (very stable) ICS/CM9 nightlies, microphone now works (not sure if you knew that yet). Camera still doesn't work in the nightlies, but a test build by a hardworking dev has a very buggy version of it without video, only pictures. JB/CM10 has no video or sound.
Take a look at the CM9 and CM10 threads in the Development forums for more information.
No idea about WebOS; I haven't booted into it since I installed Android.
hey folks,
I have been following all the Milestone development threads since the very beginning, and have gone through each inkarnation of kabaldans incredible work since CM6. Recently, I updated to CM10 (first without, now with 2nd boot) and am absolutely amazed by how far our good old milestone has come. While playing around with it quite a bit, I have come across some problems (I would love to report them in the appropriate development thread, but the 10-post-count won't let me unfortunately.)
First, I really loved the keyboard multipress-system since I live in Germany and have to enter Umlauts very frequently (ä, ö, ü, etc.). The multipress-system sped that up greatly. Now, although the corresponding settings are there in the Milestone-specific part of the Settings-app, multipressing actually doesn't work for me in CM10. Is that problem specific to me, or is multipress not yet fully integrated in CM10?
The second thing I noticed (probably since 2nd boot, but I am not entirely sure) is, that in the Settings under About Phone > Status neither IME nor Serial number are displayed (instead, it says "unknown"). This also prevents me from launching Whats App - it quits saying "Your phone could not be identified ....".
Does anyone else experience those issues - and/or could perhaps somebody please post this into the CM10 development thread, so kabaldan notices?
thanks, mvol

I have issue like this, and I can see IMEI and IMEI SV, but the Serial Number is "unknown".
after doing a full wipe, IMEI now shows up for me as well, but unknown serial and multipress problems remain.

You are almost at the 10th post.
Maybe wiping everything is a solution for that?

here using the shift and alt is working normally above 2 keys simultaneous ... not tested on that specifically, you will use more than 2 simultaneous keys?
with "multipress" I mean the feature invented by nadlabak/kabaldan that allows one to press the same key multiple times very quickly to enter special characters (like pressing "a" two times very fast producing "ä", for example.) It worked perfectly for me in CM7, but it doesn't anymore in CM10...
anyone, please?
It works fine for me. I use it frequently.
mvol: I still haven't found the time to implement the multipress feature completely in CM10. Only a few of the final bits is missing. Please be patient.
thanks for your answer - in that case, I'll wait patiently
Link not working for me
Hi All,
Im unable to access the latest builds for milestone CM10 by kabaldan. Please can anybody provide alternate link?
Thanks
Hello people!
I'm a long time CM ( 6 and 7 ) user on my Milestone.
After updating it to CM10 ( full wipe, ext3 partition formatted ), adb does not find my device anymore.
I have changed the USB settings and enabled the debugger in development, but nothing changes. Even after a restart.
Running on Ubuntu 12.10.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
The issue I have is quite annoying, if I can use such a word in a development stage . After each restart, the network is being forgotten, so I have to switch to the airplane mod off and on.
@pt0: This is a known issue, if I can say that. I experience this too, though not after every restart. I think it's a problem we can live with.
Hi all, I hope I can provide reliable good news: LG support says some providers made some changes to some repeaters (e.g. E-Plus in Germany). They have a solution and provide us with an update released around the end of October.
Now is probably a good time to point LG to some of the major problems introduced with the JB update (4.1.3), as the new Update will likely be a smaller improvement of the latter.
In my case:
- very slow return to home screen when closing apps and problems navigating the home screens, when some more icons and widgets are present
- can't write onto external SD with some backup apps (e.g. Super Backup)
EDIT: I would be totally happy about a way to port the updated system files, once they are out, to other Roms (e.g. the ICS Stock Rom).
I'm extremely skeptical that LG would release an update for our phone. Are you sure our model is on the list?
I called them personally regarding a prior support case (repair order -> "no error found") because somebody reported the techs had replaced some parts (new IMEI) and solved the problem. I wanted the same for my P880. They told me about the changes to some repeaters, the upcoming update, and the soon following update for the P920 (?) Optimus 3D.
I am as surprised and sceptical as you are. But as I have read about this update from a second, independent, source (the German forum at AndroidPit.de), I am starting to believe and, thus, spreading the news.

Can you please point us to that article on androidpit.de. Thanks
I Tried to find but no result.
See here (look for "FETTES UPDATE" on top of the page):

Sorry, this is a German post. Although the writer confused repeater with router, P920 with P990, and another user confused software and hardware update.
EDIT: My support guy explicitly statet that this will be an OTA update. I am sceptical, as it happens often with LG that updates have to be installed manually/via PC. Very likely he meant that I won't have to "bring in" my device again.
I just called them again and explicitly named the increasing delay when returning to and browsing the home sreen as the major problem with the official JB rom on the P880. If some hundred more users do the same, LG hopefully addresses the issue as well.

I just don't think that some repair guy from LG can do anything else then told you what you want to hear and mark it as solved. I think they are just waiting till you buy new device. I'm lucky because I have no such problems with RIL. I disabled PIN protection and installed Mahdi. Now I sometimes (once per day?) can see no signal for second or two but it's ok.. no problems (there is no way for no signal, I'm living next to the mobile transmitter and I usualy have full signal bar). There is only one thing which gets me so angry - lags, usualy when listening music from youtube on background and browsing the Internet. My friend with Galaxy S laughs when my phone gets his lucky mood and he sees it, his phone is more smooth then mine, it's crazy.
Of course, this might all be a big hoax. BUT:
By now, I know of three different people who got pretty much the same information from LG support. Although you never know, for my part, I wouldn't like to suspect that LG internally agreed on certain standards on how to efficiently lie to their customers in this particular matter through personal communication - especially by giving an approximate release date (end of october) for the update AND outlining the release for the P920 as well. But that's just me thinking positively of other people and of the future.
Btw, could you elaborate a bit on this Mahdi thing you mentioned? I tried different Roms (Cyanogen, OmniRom) and none of them solved the RIP (Reorganizing internal processes) issue. Plus I unsuccessfully tried to fix it with EPRJ RIL implementation following this guide (experts might go *facepalm*, I tried anyways):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2496075
Therefore I came to believe that RIP (my ideosyncratic acronym) and RIL are two pairs of shoes. No? Also, I don't really understand, what PIN protection has to do with anything.

Mahdi is mod like Cyanogenmod, we have unofficial support from alfsamsung (he's great developer) you can find the thread in Optimus 4x development section (without "original"). He did a lot of changes in baseband driver & ril. Btw that reorganising bug is only in stock isn't it? I think in CM based roms is only crashing ril and asking for pin again or full crash of ril and baseband driver so you have to reboot your phone.
When I was running stock I never saw it (that reorganising..) I only saw someone talking about it here on xda.
I'm not optimistic because LG said that our phone won't get any update in future. I just don't think that they changed their opinion because of few people crying to their hotlink.
I'm so sorry about my english, my skills are just terrible
An update for Germany is out:
