OK, I've lurked around here ever since I got my Streak7 a few months ago. I have been fairly happy with my un rooted, fairly stock Streak until a few days ago. I don't know what happened, but now, after trying everything I've found here and other places (Pocketables). Here's what I think is going on: It will boot, but goes through all the first time stuff, set up google, touch the droid, etc. etc. I can go to market and download/install a program, and it will run, however every time I restart it, it goes back to the start over crap, and anything I loaded before, (pictures, programs etc.) are gone? I'm not interested in rooting, etc. just want my stock Streak back. Yes, I'm a dummy, I know.
So just want to be clear you did root the device correct?

Do you have made a factory reset ? Power on and hold Vol+ ?
No, not rooted. Yes, tried all the options on boot w/volume +. Also tried the clearing files through settings/privacy etc. etc.

I'm at work right now but I will contact you later on this afternoon to discuss further details. Please post everything you have tried. I know it can seem like a ton to type but it helps myself and others better try and understand what options to give you. Thanks

Uh oh... sounds like the dreaded Read Only mode some Streak 7s get... I personally have had my hands on 3 like this and all three had to be sent in to Dell for repair.
I tried everything to fix them that I could find but no matter what... at each reboot I was back to factory in box state

YES! That's exactly what I'm thinking. I don't know 1/99th of what most of you guys know about Android, but I'd sure like to understand more about this thing. It boots a bit slower than normal,as if it's reloading everything, every time. Also seems as if everything is on the "memory' partition, and that's why it's lost on reboot. There must be a solution. BIG problem is I don't know what I did to cause this problem. Seems as if it was after I had it in it's dock, linked to the computer. I'm going to try a restore by trying:

Do you have the wifi only streak or do you have the t-mobile version? The NVFlash on that link is for the t-mobile version. I posted the process for the wifi only streak here:

Let me know if you have any questions before or after you attempt this.

IF that's your problem then unfortunately no, there is no other solution than sending it in to DELL
OK, tried "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1018809" twice. It ran as it's supposed to, loaded up all the files, etc. Did the pin hole reset, and fired it up. Went through all the first time set up crap, turned it off, restarted, and it's back to square one! Guess I'll have to call Dell. Sure would like to figure this problem out though. REALLY interesting.

You may have answered this already but I am missing it. Do you have the t-mobile version or the wifi only version?
If you have the wifi only version please try my thread here>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1252840 before you call dell. It is similar to what you did on the other one but there are slight differences between the two processes and files.
Sorry, missed that, I have the "T-Mobile"
Dell support
You ain't going to believe it! Called Dell tech support today. Had one hell of a time trying to understand the nice Indian Lady. Went through all the hoo-ha and told the gal that I had the "read only" problem, and that it appeared to be happening to a lot of other people. She said, "yes it has". While I was telling her everything I have tried, she was apparently googling "streak 7 read only" and she said that she had something unofficial that I could try, but I would have to be at a computer to do it. I asked what she meant, and she said for me to google "streak 7 read only" and near the top of the page would be a link to xda developers! No chit, I ain't kidding. I then confessed that I had also tried that, and it was still in read only. So they are sending me a box, so I can send my unit back for "REPAIR" ???

I'm about to send my streak 7 in for the exact same reason. I had question though, you think dell would care that I made a few modifications like....root, custom boot screen and slimmed ROM. I wasn't able to restore the factory settings for the obvious reason. Hope this doesn't void warranty.

I hate to burst your bubble, but just the fact that you rooted it voids your warranty, not to mention the boot animation and the custom ROm. If you send it in to them like that, they'll just turn around and send it right back to you with a nice letter telling you your warranty is void because it no longer has the stock DELL software package installed. Has already happened to me once...
Well, it was the STUPID DELL tech support ass that told me to try the NVflash. Besides, when I do send it in, it won't be booting at all, believe me. Dell sent me a box to return my streak. Only problem, they sent it to the wrong address, and the wrong city! Fed Ex tracked me down, and I had to go to the terminal to pick it up. They said Dell won't let them change the address, either I come pick it up, or it goes back. The pre printed shipping slip inside the box says it will go to MEXICO for repair. I'm afraid to send it off, as who knows where they will send it when repaired? I'm preparing to write Dell a nice nasty letter. Either someone that speaks ENGLISH can call me and straighten out the address problem, or I will not send them any more payments on my account, and I'll tell T-mobile to go suck a lemon too. Sick and tired of this un-american cooperate crap!

I have sent 3 different Streak 7s back to DELL and on the first one the box was sent to the wrong address and did as you seem you are about to do, and the Streak was sent BACK to that same address once repaired. Sooooo your best bet is to call DELL, AGAIN, and get that straightened out so you get the box at your home so it will come directly back to you. And yes, the Dell goes to Mexico where they are fabricated, then some other place in the US that I can't remember for testing and then back to you. The entire process takes 14 days from the time you call and ask for another box to the time you receive your Streak 7 back.
qhsusb_dload is all I get. Buttons no work. Doesn't vibe or anything. Soft reset doesn't work. Any help or am I screwed. I flashed overcome 8.9 wiped prior and wiped dalvik after the reboot and black screen since.

I'm really sorry but your device is done. The skyrocket people haven't been able to fix this yet by using a jig or qualcomm tools.
Reading and researching is really important. You can't flash any p73xx rom to the i957, it will brick.
This is exactly why I have tried to get a separate forum for the i957, but that hasn't worked yet.
Hope you are under warranty or that is an expensive mistake.

I did the exact same thing you did. It is very confusing (Well not really, I just did'nt take my time to read). I was exhausted because I was very happy to have my new skyrocket and new lte tab. I researched and researched. I rooted, installed custom rom and kernel on my skyrocket. I then rooted my tablet and it was great. I then installed a custom rom for a 7300 on my i957 and Boom, gone. Luckily I was within my 30 day return policy. Everything in my home is either jailbroken, rooted, homebrewed, w/e. so I have somewhat experience.
But the combination of tiredness, excitedness, and what ever else comes along with getting new gadgets, I didn't pay attention and blew up my tablet.
Even with my experience and never bricking anything before, I bricked my tablet. I took it back to the store and making believe I never even heard about rooting, jailbreaking, homebrewing; the sales people tried starting it up and eventually they couldn't get it to start up. I got a new tablet, I told them I left the tablet charging overnight and left it charging when I went to work, because I forgot to disconnect it. When I got home from work it just didn't turn on.
Eventually they gave me a new tablet and said do not charge it for more than 8 hours. They said I was the first customer to ever return this tablet because it was defective (This tablet is a beast). I told them sure I learned my lesson.
When I went home, I rooted it lol and installed the oc kernel. Remember there are no roms for the 4g model.
Before I went back to the store where I purchased my phone&tablet, I found that there is a youtube store that fixes bricked phones and tablets (He has videos of him fixing them) but when I emailed him, he said their program does not support in unbricking the lte tablet. This was about a month ago so you can check to see if they support it now. I think to unbrick phones it was like 50-100 dollars (I forgot)
You are not alone, I made the same dumb mistake. Never do important stuff when you are tired or excited or anxious. Sorry man, good luck.
I may have put this in the wrong area it was late last night and I was frustrated. I tried putting a 7300 ROM on a 7300. I didn't try anything fancy lol. But I appreciate the responsses. You think I'll be able to take it back and see what they can do? Maybe they'll exchange it as if it was a defect? I'll take it there today. See if they will exchange.lesson learned for me. Lesson being wait for updates from Samsung. As slow as they are. Lol thanks for the input if anyone has the capability to fix this
Hit me up.

A 7300 rom on a 7300 should only soft brick. Can you get into download or recovery?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
If you try to turn on your tablet and your screen turns on you can try to install the stock rom through odin again and it will work. There is a thread in this forums that explains how. If it is off and you turn it on and ABSOLUTELY NOTHING happens and it just stays with the black screen, no vibration or anything then it is hard bricked.
If it is hard bricked you can try to take it back and act dumb, not sure how long ago you purchased the tablet. If you are still within the 30 days you should be good because the sales people I took my tablet to did not have the machine to see how many times my device was flashed. If you are outside the 30 days they will tell you to send it to a samsung repair dealer (which I think they will see how many times the device has been flashed). Once you rooted your tablet it voids the warranty and they either do not have to fix it or will charge you an amount equal to your tablet. I did hear of cases where people with rooted tablets just returned it and they fixed it for free. I guess it dpeneds on anything else in life (How lucky are you?)
Yes you did put your question on the right place since this is for all the 8.9 tablets. (Thats the problem I came across with, I wish they make two forums for both tablets because they are in fact different.
Posting from my mobile so I didn't read your post again.
It is extremely rare but sometimes this can happen. Did you have repartition checked in Odin? If so that's bad.
There is something called qpst - qualcomm product support tools - that people are trying to get to work to fix hard bricks.

I apologize if there is already a thread on this, but I have not found an actual solution to it yet.
My Captivate's screen is on sleep mode, and maybe 20 ish minutes later, when I press the unlock button, I find that the phone is off and I have to turn it on again. This happens every 20 minutes, and the only way for me to keep it on is to frequently unlock the phone to verify that it is still on.
This is not a very practical method of doing things though, because the phone turns off in while I'm sleeping and I'm not always able to check my phone every 20 minutes.
My firmware version is 2.3.3 and I'm running Gingerbread OS. It's a refurbished phone I received from Rogers a week ago, and I really don't want to factory reset or anything like that as I have very important information/app data on my phone I don't want to have wiped.
I've heard of flashing a custom rom to fix the problem but the thread i read was from 2011. Can anyone help me with this issue? Thanks.
If you received it as a refurbished from Rogers then I would go back to them and get them to send you a new one. There was a batch of Captivates that had this issue and a new motherboard was the only true fix.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
Is that really the only way to fix the problem? Aren't there any custom roms that might fix the problem?
They might help the issue but they will not fix it. It is a hardware defect. I had to send one back to At&t for the same issue.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
Dude send the phone back to Rogers. Call them or go to the Rogers Plus store and explain them the problem. Tell them that you did factory reset and you're still getting the problem.

Hi I am not sure what happened but I found someone locally selling a Galaxy Gear for $200.00. I thought that was a pretty good deal so I met up with the person today and got the watch. He showed me it working on his Note 3. He breezed through the screens with his finger. I called him...he took the call on the watch...I mean everything looked fine. Now I must mention I already bought a Galaxy Gear and love it. Been side loading apps and really having fun with it. I thought for this price I could play around with rooting and try some things that I did not want to on my existing gear because I am happy with the way it is working. Figured if I sold it on Ebay eventually I would still make possibly $50.00 when it was all said and done. So the first thing I did was charge up the new Gear ..it was at 87% already but thought it could not hurt. I was trying to figure out how to link TWO gears to my Note 3 and you pretty much just add a new gear and unpair or disconnect the other. So far so good...so I get the option to restore my data....I'm like sweet! Goes through the entire process including with even watch styler. I push a recently configured watch face to the gear. And that's as far as I got. I tried to swipe left and right with no luck. no up or down either. Ok, I figure maybe the buggy watch styler hung up the gear. Hold the power button down on the side and I get the reboot or shutdown...go to hit shutdown and the screen does not sense I am touching it. I tried it over and over and still nothing. Finally my only option was to hold the side power button in....says rebooting...actually comes up shows the time but I still cannot swipe in any direction. I even went as far as to go into the system menu by pushing the side button over and over after the reboot and I did a reset in there but still no touch response. Now If I had not actually seen it working I would have thought the dude pulled a fast one on me and who knows maybe he still did but it WAS working. Out of desperation I called Samsung and gave them my serial number and they told me it is eligible for warranty return...but watch them find it was previously wet or dropped somehow. I do not know if it has been but that would just suck. So much for my good deal. Do any of you extremely smart folks know what I can try or do you think it and I are hosed? I did try USB to see if that made a difference and if I go into the download mode I could launch ODIN and it shows it is detected. I am trying not to totally reset my other gear by uninstalling anything on the phone but I trust you guys so what do think I should do?

I thought about that but if I do that and it does not work would I not be able to mail it back for warranty repair? I have already called samsung and gave them the S/N and they sent me a pre paid label to print off and mail the watch back. If I re-flash I might be screwed for that option. I might already be not knowing what the previous owner did.
Thanks for the response though

On most roms I am to get the half screen problem, and I was wondering if there is something I can do to prevent it.
According to T-Mobile it is a know problem. Got my replacement on order. I had the problem happen before I even rooted the phone. Seems to have gotten worse over time for me though and that's why I called to have it replaced. If your having the problem I totally recommend the same to you. I will say after trying chroma I think it has gotten more frequent even after loading up my light rom backup. I can't blame it on anything other then bad hardware though cause like I said it happened before I rooted a week into having the phone.
Hardware issue, replace it

Yeah I had the issue before I rooted as well. Lol I had called tmobile for the replacement 5 min before reading this and they are sending me a replacement device. Thanks for responding though!
When to you guys called it in, do you get the normal "factory reset" troubleshooting, or do they know that this issue is random and just send a replacement? I get the issue with certain kernels, and not with others and am wondering if I should call it in.
