Use SuperOneClick method, its quite easy

1. Put this file on your phone SDCARD:update.zip
2. Reboot your phone into recover by pressing VOLUME UP+HOME+POWER.
3. Choose "Install from sdcard"
4. Reboot and you are rooted.
You might have to update Superuser app and su once you root since its older.

the method you are using only works when you have recovery 2e. I'm guessing you are on froyo which is now recovery 3e.
I find the easiest way to root your phone is chainfires
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
but there are other ways e.g. superoneclickroot that can do it for you as well.

Hello,
Sorry for my english i'am a french user.
I have a samsung galaxy note and i have root this.
i have instal odin mobil for instal a new room but... the mobile don't boot. He is fix to the bootlogo samsung.
Any one have a idéa? I try to instal the sheep room whith odin but nothing run or instal.
i need help thx
Make clear more
You were on which rom (stock)? How you hav root n wat rom you installed with mobile odin
I'm not familiar with odin but it's easy to flash using clockwork recovery. And it allows you to make backups in case you need to revert back.
thx for your help .
I have found the probleme i don't have instal kies samsung in my computer....
I now i have instal this room http://jjpda.blogspot.com/2011/12/install-n7000xxkl7.html
but i don't root this rom i have rtead this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1413120&page=10
if i understand it's impossible to root this rom???
Yes u hav installed kl7 wrong way, you need to update it withobile odin pro with everroot option, which already you had with u.
Anyway from this point you want to root anyway, u hav to first flash with other stock rom, then root n get mobile odin pro n after this flash kl7 with mobile odin pro with ever root option
When moving from an odexed ROM (stock) to a deodexed ROM (sheep) you will need to perform a factory reset. Just access the CWM recovery and do it there.
The same thing happened to me when I upgraded from kl7 to rocket ROM

I have instal N7000DXKL3 ------ -------2011 December-------- N7000OLBKL2 ----------- ----Singapore ----------------------------Download
and try to root with DooMLoRD
a idea???
many thx
YES IT WORKS with an other stock room thx for your help!!
but ...now.... when i try to instal a custom room with odin mobile it don't works.....
the phone freeze in the bootlogo
a idéa?
I also can't get my Note to get past the logo boot screen when trying to use Mobile Odin to flash either the KL7 or KL8 firmware. I have followed the steps to root KK5 (found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360), and have root access and CWM installed. Then I downloaded the new firmware files (KL7 and KL8) from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997. I then followed the instructions to use Mobile Odin to flash to the KL7 or KL8 codes, using the "ever root" option, the phone reboots and goes into the install screen, but then when it tries to boot back up, it comes to the "Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000" splash screen and just stays there. I then can use Odin on my PC to get back to the KK5 firmware--but I'd really like to get upgraded. I've searched/browsed all the posts I could find and nothing so far seems to be helping. Please help!

Hi, just flash upd_1.zip file from the attachments in Stock Recovery.
1. Download the file and copy into root directory of sdcard
2. Go to recovery mode by pressing home+power button key combination.
3. Then, navigate with the vol+ and vol- and use home button to select. Choose install zip from sdcard.
4. install the .zip from sd card

Hi. i have tried different roms and after that i wannted to go back to stock rom, and i`v installed 2.3.6 xwktn like u and can`t root enymore. here is the solution that worked for me. U have to flash with Odin back u 2.3.4 (xxkpi is the one that i`v installed) and after that install 2.3.6 xwktn and u should root with the upd_1.zip entering in the stock clockworkmod! And it should be the first thing that u do! Today i`v meet the same problem and worked again! Hope u know to use ODIN, and if not i`m shore that is a tutorial with all that!
hope that worked for u to!!!

Sorry the upload failed and I didn't notice it. I added the file in the original reply.
This post will show you how to root your Samsung galaxy ace 2.3.3 or 2.3.x in a simple way.
its similar to what's said over here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034145
i found it extremely hard to actually download the root file because websites like hot file were full of adverts and fake links, so I've made it much easier - http://www.yourfilelink.com/get.php?fid=832963
Rooting for 2.3.3 (Thanks to Russian forum-user with nickname may213) (if it doesn't work try D method):
Download attached file called upd_1.zip and copy it to your sdcard
Turn off your phone
Press POWER+HOME BUTTON
Select update from sdcard, select the file upd_1.zip
After the update completed - reboot
Now you have rooted S5830
Aren't there numerous tutorials already?

I tried exactly the same procedure a number of times like apply update from sd card, choosing the file, and rebooting the system. It seemed that it did it correctly as it did not give any notification of failure but when I tried to uninstall some apps using root explorer, it says the device has not been rooted and prompt me to root again. Tired of doing several times. I need to delete those unwanted factory set apps. Help plz

visit My Android Collections, look under unlock & Root, you have the option of using an app or by using your PC or flashing a CF Root or semaphore Kernel.
try this, it worked for me.
1st:
Install or Unbrick 2.3.6 Gingerbread in Samsung Galaxy S i9000
youtube.com/watch?v=DDg4oyRNets
2nd
Root 2.3.6 Gingerbread Samsung Galaxy S i9000
youtube.com/watch?v=Pq_2Z1drKzc
and i even maked my I9000 to android 4.2.1
Install 4.2.1 Jelly Bean in Samsung Galaxy S i9000 by Cenouralm
youtube.com/watch?v=LP9EomkF06c
All worked for me
I managed to root and install CWM without using a computer, here's how I did it... I was on gingerbread 2.3.6 so I installed Framaroot v1.5.2 to get root as Mobile ODIN needs root and won't work without it. link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130276 then I installed Mobile ODIN (free in market) and the Mobile ODIN flash kernal here http://bit.ly/17kEetk next I download CF-Root here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108 unzipped CF-Root and placed it in Mobile ODIN, when you open mobile ODIN it'll say you need to download extra data, but it's only if you're flashing firmware, you don't need to download the extra data just for flashing kernels so ignore it... flash it and Mobile ODIN will install CF-Root then it'll auto reboot... once rebooted, go into recovery mod and you should now have CWM as well as Root access... hope that helps.

(1st:
1.1 Follow Cyanogen mods install wiki and download the Usb-driver(remember to reboot after) and the other stuff(no need for the android sdk). Youll have to google for heimdall-frontend
1.2 Use heimdall frontend to install 2.3.6 Gingerbread(XWJVZ_heimdall.tar for i9000) and dont freak out if mobile data is not working, it will work after step 3.)
as odin didnt recognize my soft bricked device, id stick to heimdall.
2nd:
follow cyanogenmods wiki advice and use heimdall to install cwm recovery, dont forget to visit your phones settings and put USB-debug on.
3rd:
a)
use your phone to download the rom-image +gapps you want. Boot to recovery, perform wipes and install.
or
b)
or if you want to stay with 2.3.6---> flash a working modem from recovery if its not working properly.
