[Q] GT-I9000 - Gingerbread; Baseband Unknown; Signal Icon is "Prohibited", no service
Hello,
I am working on a phone for a friend, which requires a firmware upgrade. I have roughly a week to get this done, or my friend won't be happy (I loaned them my daily driver phone).
I have a Samsung Galaxy S (Model GT-I9000) that I odin'd from Eclair (2.1) to Gingerbread, Android 2.3.6, package title "XWJW1". Originally, ODIN failed due to some careless error on my behalf. But after some careful examination and configuration, I managed to get ODIN flashing Gingerbread to the phone.
What I am missing though is a modem.bin (baseband) or a modem package that is compatible with Gingerbread. I suspect that the Galaxy S I have now is looking at the baseband from Eclair 2.1 and not communicating with it since it is too old.
The baseband version ID shows "Unknown", and the signal icon has a circle with a line on it, more like a prohibited sign.
Could someone please assist me in finding a baseband that will fix this issue? I would appreciate a timely response.
Cheers!

Nevermind, figured it out myself, had to update the modem using the correct baseband.
Friend is happy.

I am precisely having the same issue. Can you plese let me know where you downloaded the modem.bin for baseband.

[Q] Baseband unknown after flashing to Froyo

At first, sorry for - in a way - repeating myself, as chunks of my problem are spreaded across some other posts. However I still haven't managed to solve the problem and haven't received any working solution I've decided to create a new thread.
I would really like to taste some of the sweet of Doc's Froyo ROM but my SGS is refusing to cooperate with any Froyo version. Originally it is DTJG4 (JM8 works without any problems). The trouble starts with any Froyo version, as every attempt to flash results in baseband unknown and no IMEI. Recently I used the Doc's v8 and still got the baseband unknown and no IMEI, however this time I've checked and the /efs folder is untouched.
Tried already:
-JG4-Doc Froyo v7 and v8
-JG4-JM8-Doc Froyo v8
-JG4-JM8-JPM
-JG4-JP6
-JG4-JM8-JP6
Am I really stuck with JG4 ?
same here....have tried all the methods i have searched but still no luck! ><
waiting for any new solution...
I think it means the modem.bin was not flashed (or flashed incorrectly) to your device. This happened to my Captivate when flashing a new ROM. Pull the modem.bin out of the ROM you are flashing and flash the modem using Odin v1.3.

Actually I haven't tried taking the modem out of the ROM, however several times I have flashed just the modem using both, ODIN and CWRecovery. It is just a stubborn bastard that won't get the Froyo running .. it makes me frustrated

Am I really stuck ? .. As the carrier and samsung are delaying the official Froyo update from month to month, I'm starting to lose hope that my phone will ever run Froyo .. There must be a way !
have you tried just flashing the modem file? I think doc's thread has a bunch of modem packages you can use..
I have a similar problem and flashing the modem still leaves you with baseband unknown. I have yet to find a solution for this either.
Mine now works fine
so what was the cause - still no idea
so what did help - rebooting the phone couple of times without the sim inside
heads up !
I have been experience this problem as well, and it seems to be a quite common problem when flashing froyo. But I think I have found a solution to the problem.
For some reason the nv_data.bin is changed during the flashing process, so that the phone can not read the imei. Therefore the phone / modem / baseband is not started correct. I loaded an old backup of the nv_data.bin and nv_data.bin.md5 (there are threads on this forum how to do that) and then it worked again.
But the question is what is happening when flashing? My product code is still readable in the nv_data.bin. And when I go back to 2.1 everything works again. From my testing, this happened with every 2.2 and 2.3 version I’ve tried.
Does anyone know what is changed when flashing froyo in the nv_data.bin? Why is this only happening to some of us? For your information I loaded froyo half a year ago via kies and a register hack which changed my product code. To solve that I reverted back to the .bak files. Maybe I did something wrong back then?

Upgrading an I9000T to 2.2?

I got one of the Brazil/LatinAmerica I9000T phones running in the US/AT&T 3G:
Product code GT-I9000HKTTTT
PDA: I9000TUBJG5
PHONE: I9000TUBJG7
CSC: I9000TUUBJG4
Im concerned that upgrading may screw up my radio files. My phone has the 3 US/AT&T 3G bands 850/1900/200 that most of the I9000s dont. Can I just upgrade the PDA to a 2.2 ROM and leave the PHONE/CSC as is? If so can I upgrade that PDA to ANY ROM?
Im also concerned that since I have the latin american phone with brazil firmware on it, and it says on bootup that its a I9000T but its not the I9000B model that the MUST READ describes as a brazil model... So Im not sure what all pit files and ROMs that are safe to use.
Optimally, when I do upgrade to 2.2, should I try to use a MODEM and CSC file from the US/AT&T/Captivate 2.2 files, and use whatever PDA ROM I choose? That seems in my head to be what to shoot for but I'm still figuring things out here...
Also, Im confused... these ROMs Im seeing are installed via update.zip, not by the ODIN method. Will I screw up my phone by installing these update.zip files?
Is there a free method to totally back up my PDA/PHONE/CSC into individual files that could be restored later?
Hello Friend.
I have the same version of phone, and I´m looking to for "original" firmware.
You've got the original firmware?
Did you guys found a solution for.. i also have the same version...
Hello everybody
Have you guys loked here?

I downgraded to 2.1 with the i9000T stock rom
Now that 2.2.1 is out for the i9000HKTTTT (i9000TUBJP9), I wanted to see if KIES would now work. After downgrading to 2.1update 1 using ODIN ,everything appears work fine on the phone. I tried updating to 2.2.1 via KIES and still get the message "This Device's version can't be upgraded" . I tried this on a few different computers with KIES 1.5 & 2.0 and no luck.
I did do a Factory reset *2767*3855# , but still no luck.
All information on the phone appears to be OK for 2.1 update 1.
I did notice in Kies if you apply the Registry Patcher and use code CWW, you will get a different message which shows that it's currently up to date. Maybe meaning, Jamaica has not received their updates yet.
Any ideas. Very frustrating. Just trying to get this phone back to stock so it can receive updates when I give to another family member.
GT-i9003
By any chance any one have a link for the latin America Stock rom for the I9003... I write in this tread since is the closer one I found about LatinAmerican Roms.
It sims there are only Europeans, Asians, Arabic and the US rom.
I installed every one and each of them. the signal was fading in and out, and I was only getting edge.
so any one with the I9003 Latin america Stock Rom?

[Q] Awful Cell Reception (Bell Canada) (2.3.3 JVK) **FIXED**

Hey Guys,
I had flashed 2.3.3 JVK Gingerbread to my Canadian Bell Samsung i9000m. Since the flash my cellular signal is extremely poor. Getting 0-1 bar in places I would normally get 4-full on Froyo. With JVK the phone is extremely fast, email app has stopped constantly force closing and for the first time, gps works great! This is why I didn't just want to flash back to Froyo to fix the cell signal issue. I had been told by a member here to ensure that [8]WCDMA 850(FDD V)[*] in the band settings had a star in it. It did not, I had selected it and rebooted, star is now there with no change in signal strength.... So this is my question, am I going to have to flash back to froyo to fix this and once again live without GPS? Or is there a work-around or setting to fix signal strength. ANY help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance..

Flashed to 2.3.3 JVK Gingerbread with Odin with new Bootloaders, no PIT/Repartition.
EVERYTHING else works perfect, except cellphone signal.
**FIXED**
Flashed the KC1 (Bell Canada Update) modem.bin via odin. I now get full signal (84dB) where I had previosly had none. (2.3.3. Modem). Gps working great. Phone still fast as hell.
Also just a follow up, I tried the JL2 modem first but gps failed to lock. Thanks for the advice though the 850mhz was the key!
No no no! Its just your modem, you can flash any modem toy like!
Go for jl2 as it is 850mhz by default.
Just find the jl2 modem. If its a zip then extract modem.bin and place in the pda section of odin. Flash away! If its a .tar file just put this straight in.

Yes you can use any froyo modem.
As for gps... I hear conflicting reports about that. Jl2 tho has great gps from reports.
I found jvk modem to drain heaps standby. Im guessing that without 850mhz band your phone is using a fallback band with worse reception. Ll2 should sort this out

So is the JL2 from 2.2.1?, as with the 2.2 Froyo, my gps was not just being slow, but not functioning at all (0 Locked sat's).
Also, where would I obtain this modem file, and how is it flashed. I ran a search and noticed that some member state it goes into the PDA field in ODIN and other stating it goes into the PHONE field. Also, I have not modified the bootloader,(Stock came with 2.3.3) and I am unsure weather it could be flashed using the update method. As this is my work phone, I need to be sure I will not brick it. Once again, sorry for all the questions, the help is GREATLY appreciated.
**EDIT**
Also, when going into the *#2263#, the 850 Band is listed in both the GSM and CDMA areas, both with a corresponding star in the box beside them. Not sure if this means the band is actually there or not. One thing I am sure of is the fact that with FROYO my signal was perfect, with GPS non existant and phone generally SLOW, with 2.3.3 EVERYTHING is working great with the exception of the cell signal strength. Speed is incredible.
Ah glad to hear you sorted it out! Being half canadian myself I was glad I helped.

why you don't try to re-stock with safe gingerbread v5 from samsung and then flash overcome ?
now i checked *#1234# and all are ok ? i think you need to restock with safe gingerbread that will wipe everything
Because the JK3 modem was origionally from a samsung i900.
You can make the baseband anything by flashing a different modem.bin with odin.
Go to the development section, and find the modem stickie, and take any modem you like, I'm using JPD but I'm probably going back to JK3 today.

So u recomend JK3? I am using the original modems that rotohammer used for the modem switch JL3 for the 2g+voice not sure wich one for the 3g, how can i change the modem to be used with modem switch. Thanks.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
First, you will only be able to use a different voice+EDGE modem. The Roto-3G modem can't be substituted.
Try out the modem for a few days in your area to see if it will be better than the current modem.
If you want to make it your permanent voice+EDGE modem, copy it to the modemswitch folder, rename the Roto-2G modem something else, like Roto-rooter, then rename your substitute modem Roto-2G.
You can easily reverse the process.

[Q] Connection Errors after Flashing to Tmobile Stock Modem

Yesterday went ahead and flashed the modem to tmobile stock NA using ODIN. Did some research and from I what I found the thinking was this would fix the issues with dropping the cell connection as the Rom was using the European modem firmware. Flash went fine, however now when I go into providers and select T-mobile I get a message saying it cannot connect to the server. Under the system settings it is still showing up as JPZ.
Please any help would be appreciated

Is your IMEI OK? Showing as 35xxxx ?
Anyway since February already many T-Mobile user in P1000 said connection failed.
It must be due to something T-Mobile did, or new security measure.
Two persons in this thread, 5-Feb is the start of the problem
