I'm looking for an hard cover with NO rubber o any other grippy parts... i've possibly found one, but i'd rather have a bit of choice and/or feedback.
Pretty much this is my point: my pockets are big enough for the tab and a cover, i also need a cover. And i do have one... that is made of one of those rubber materials. Works awesome but it makes putting the tab in the pocket (and exctracting it) a long and slow process, one that actually worked with my iPhone because it was such a small device, but not on the tab for obvious reasons
So. Let me point out a few things that this cover shouldn't have:
- grippy material
- transparent material (looks good for a few days, then gets yellow-ish and you see the dirt lodged between the cover and the gadget)
- flashy colors, the tab is already very much an eye grabber without extra help
- bulky. If it's foldable if falls into the bulky category almost surely, remember it has to fit in my pocket
- pouch. That's exactly the kind of thing i forget once the tab is outside it.
Also, leather. I'm very skeptical about leather..... but i'm considering it.
Oh, and you know.... no matter what, it'd need to be shipped to Italy. Amazon.uk would be preferred (looked there, but no description is clear enough about the kind of cover).
Anyway, this is my find: http://cgi.ebay.it/CUSTODIA-COVER-M...t=Accessori_per_Cellulari&hash=item2c5b379a1a
looks fairly nice and meets all my requests, however it's not shown with the tab in it, so i can't tell if it's bulky or what.
Thanks in advance, worst case scenario i pointed out a cover that might interest somebody
Well, if you get a hard plastic one its going to crack if you drop your device.
I have a black one of these and its been perfect so far, it clear, but its black, so its not going to fade, ive had it for 6mths now. Its not grippy per say, but it dose have some friction, you dont want a slippy device do you? It only adds around 3mm to the tab
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SOFT-TPU...AU_MobilePhoneAccessories&hash=item1e62d7b957
Uhm. Slippy dosen't really bother me, i hold with two hands every gadget, even an Xperia X10 mini pro, and my grip is pretty good but you do have a point.
Turns out i've never seen/touched anything made with TPU, and i've had experience only with rubber (eww, avoid at all costs) and silicone. This is what i have at the moment...
By any chance do you know if TPU offers more or less grip than silicone? Solner or later i'll have to find out if i like the material, i guess.
Also, i think i've seen the case you linked on amazon.co.uk and that is a good thing.

Wow! Very good candidate, but also really expensive... 35$ + 15 + possible customs fees scares me. But great find, even looks good. This one requires some thinking due to the price, but seems worth considering.
I like where this thread is going

No offense to anyone, but the hard shells look cool, but dont offer any protection besides scratch resistance, i recommend the TPU case, as they are cheap, work well, and if you don't like it, well it was only $5

Still it's better than nothing, and that's what's going to have the tab if i can't comfortably fit it in my pocket
However i put some thought into this thing, and i might just end up purchasing the one i found and a cheap TPU one, to see how it is.
And still open to suggestions anyway
You might try looking at the Speck Candyshell case. I can't say I own it but all of the reviews I've seen are pretty favorable. It has a soft rubber lining to protect the Tab which sounds nice. It also comes in black, white, or purple in case you care about color.

Interesting, but size matters. That sort of thing would completely ruin the portability of the thing

Look at otterboxes new case for the xperia play. I can tell you its the best case for the phone.
do you have one ? if so does it make the phone feel a lot bigger
I had an otterbox case for both my droid 1 and D2G. Loved them both. Wouldnt buy anything else. On my OG, I had the ring break 4 times and each time I emailed Otterbox they sent me out a free overnight replacement at not cost to me. Super awesome customer service. Here is the link for the otterbox for Xperia Play
http://www.otterbox.com/sony-xperia-play-cases/sony-xperia-play-cases,default,sc.html
Looks very similar to the Verizon one except the Verizon one has some design details (circles around the SE logo) and doesn't have the Otterbox logo. The Verizon one is substantially cheaper too.

So it broke twice and you are recommending them
Obviously costs them **** all if they are sending replacements like they know they are going to break.
Im using the Trident Aegis Series for Sony Ericsson Xperia Play http://www.tridenteer.com/categories/Sony-Ericsson-Xperia-Play/Aegis-Series-for-Sony-Ericsson-Xperia-Play/.
Its a very good case i highly recommend it. Id say either the otterbox or the trident case would be a wise choice for a case.

Hey dude, what does your aegis case look like at this point? I had mine for 4 days and on the 5th day I look at it and theres an outline on the front and back of it in a brown/greenish hue color. I tried alcohol, vinegar, cleaning solution to get it of but it won't go. I'm starting to speculate it is the color rubbing off.
Any ideas to fix this? I think the material is polycarbonate.
I've got the Verizon black case (the one with the circles rippling out from the SE logo) and it's definitely a case that looks good on it. I think if you dropped it at just the wrong angle though you could still mess up the phone pretty bad. Again, small chance to hit the floor in that way and a great looking case that gives personality to the phone.

I cannot see what you are describing. Mine looks like the day i got it. Apart from all the crap that sometimes sticks to the black polycarbonate parts but a simple wipe gets rid of most of it.
What colour is yours? Mines red, not sure if it matters. Tbh tho mines never in and out of my pocket (normally in my hand or in the car or on my desk e.t.c) so maybe i have this to look forward too? lol. Have you tried contacting trident and seeing if they have any advice?
I wouldnt have thought its the colour rubbing off since it should have been moulded in the colour of the case? Not coated? Not sure bud. Sorry i cannot offer any advice.
Ok so im basically tossing up between the otter and trident case as they are the main branded ones.
Can someone using any of these cases let me know which one makes the phone thicker than the other or what one has advantages over the other.
Im gonna grab the one which makes the play less thick with it on.
I dunno about you guys, i have tried all sort of design case, flipbook, flipdown, silicon casing, rubbercasing, hard casing...
and i think the best is what it is out of the box
xperia have the perfect thickness and the shape is very grib friendly, I dont see why we need to add on casing..
casing is for Iphone guy whose iphone is so fragile... xperia play cover is just a plastic, and it is easily changable... why add casing?
the choice is yours.

The aegis case is extremely comfortable and nice looking....I switched from cyan to dark green and I like both....dark green stains less though.....I liked otter case but its only in black? Lame...I love colored cases....bling bling mofos!

i`ve ordered the Trident aegis case in this army green colour, wanted the cyan at first but it`s a little too flashy .-) after i`ve read fantastic reviews,it is expensive, never spent that much on a phone case but i think from the looks and Protection it`s one of the best cases for the phone.
also, for me personally its very hard to play longer than half an hour with the xplay because the part with the gamepad is too thin, the outer edges are somewhat sharp and make it uncomfy to hold, resulting in aching fingers.and i push the power button often in shooting games making my screen go off..very annoying .-)
also the L and R buttons are a pain in the ass to press and the volume rocker feels like it`s falling out every second, its too short and it`s got a very cheap feeling..
i had a leather pouch with my xplay but i don`t like those cases as you have to pull out the phone for every little thing,so that pouch always ended without phone in my jacket because in hectic situations you dont have the time to put your phone back in the pouch .-) silicon cases i don`t like either.
Hopefully my Trident Case arrives soon, can`t wait to test it in a extended gaming session, looking forward that it will increase the grip and overall feel.
I got one from ebay for £1.99 delivered. It is a lovely case that adds hardly anything to the hanset in terms of bulk.

my Trident Aegis Case arrived today, took 14days to arrive from california to germany(cheapest delivery method) and i must say:i`m impressed!
the 2 parts fits like a glove, there is a silicone inlay in the backcover side, which makes it even more protected to heavy drops, the overall feel of the case is great, its very sturdy and the extra thickness is indeed really nice for gaming.now it feels like a real handheld portable gaming device! the volume rocker feels much more solid now and it`s optimal to press, also the L and R buttons and the power button doesn`t stick out so obviously as before,so no more nt intended power off while gaming, the case is kinda ergonomically formed .-) the case itself looks like some kind of underwater gear, which is a nice touch imho
only downsides i can find so far,the 4 buttons at the bottom are slightly hard to press because the edge of the cover is very near the buttons.but i think they are nonetheless badly placed/too tiny even without this case.(hoping for ICS on screen buttons).second there is no silicone plug for the usb cable opening, which would be a neat addition.
for the bulkiness,it adds definately some extra bulk and a little weight, you might consider this if you are wearing skinny jeans .-) but for me its ok,as i said, when you game with this case,it feels like a real handheld gaming machine.and theres a trident icon on the back which is anti slip,so no more slipping phone on the desk which is also nice.if you want a great case and the price is ok for you,get this one, especially if you game a lot with the Play, gives a complete new, great feel.
hey guys ,so i heard from my friend ,that he ever read about a hard case for slide gadget can harm that gadget "slider thing" ,so its can loose up ,its that true? ,because i already boght one like that hard case from ebay *i am sorry ,i can't pose any outside links D:

I have the same exact case Splinters69 bought on ebay. It feels really smooth and adds a bit of grip to the xperia play. It hardly adds any extra weight and the price is really good.
I received my Otterbox Commuter Case for the Nook Color yesterday. I have had some time to play around with it and I must say that it feels very "defended" against other stuff that wouldnt of taken your NC near without the case. The only complaint I have about it is the flap that covers the Power/USB port is a little flimsy. Im afraid I am going to break it off opening it. The case has a rubber bottom with a plastic outer shell. Overall it is very nice!
If I may ask, where did you find the otterbox and what does it cost? I use my nook everywhere and could use some serious protection.

I am using the Trident Case which I believe is similar to the Otterbox. The one thing I don't like about it is that the silicon rubber part of the case attracts dust and lint like a magnet attracts iron. Are you seeing the same problem with the Otterbox?

It has actually been fairly robust. Much better than the one on Seidio case for my EVO. It tore off. I have not had any issues with the Otterbox on my NC.

Love it
I LOVE my otterbox commuter case!
I paid around $35 for mine from Amazon about 3 months ago...worth every penny.
It makes the NC feel twice as heavy but in a really good way. Not to mention the very pleasing rugged esthetics. I have another otterbox commuter for my CDMA HTC Hero; it's about a year and a half old but when i take the phone out of the case it still looks as new as the day I bought it from Sprint!
The only thing I see that the TRIDENT may have an advantage over the Otterbox is that it seems the Trident case has a little rubber flap for access to the SD card -- which the otterbox doesn't. You need to completely remove the otterbox to gain access to the SD. It will be a personal preference though, it doesn't bother me a bit because I've never removed the card since I loaded CM7 into the internal memory.
Long Story Short ... GO FOR IT! (and no I don't work for them, I just really like em

The only reason I really need access to my SD Card slot is to make it bootable, other than that, i use Dropbox to transfer files & apks.
Just a little update. I have had the case for a good two months now and have loved every minute of using it. I use my NC is school every day and people always ask to see it. With the case on it, I don't have any issues with letting others hold it (everyone just wants to play Angry Birds anyways). I said when I first got it that I wouldn't use the screen protector that came with it but I have had it installed for about 6 weeks and it looks good as new. My Nook gets thrown around inside my bookbag and the case and screen protector make it to where I don't have any issues just throwing it into my bookbag. Overall i have been very pleased and will likely purchase another Otterbox case for the next phone I get.

FYI - There is an awesome app called NookColorUMS that can mount the boot partition so that a Windows machine can access the Boot Partition via USB while the SD is sill in the NC. Haven't pulled the SD in months.
Only caveats:
1- Must remember to "eject" the SD before unplugging the USB
2- May just be a win7 issue...have to open the SD as a portable device in order to write to it... win7 poorly documented "feature" - took me forever to figure this out
I now use the Simba Fileshare app. It does the same thing just wirelessly, Thanks though!

How much thickness do these ottebrox and trident cases add? Im a little hesistant as the website states the thickness goes up to 18mm from 12 but is it noticeable in day to day use?
Thickness is noticeable but worth it imo. I have the Trident cases. There are $24 at meretline.com.
I used to love Otterbox but they are overpriced (unless you find a good sale) imo.
Same with Siedio.
I had to return 3 Otterbox's for my EVO due to poor design.
Otterbox is living on reputation at this point imo.
Does anyone know where I can get a otterbox for Nook Color? Amazon currently has a 3-4 months wait. Does the original Nook case work from otterbox?
p.s, I know this thread is old. But trying to stay on topic.

You might be able to find one on Google / eBay... I have seen then at my local BooksAMillion store.
No, the Otterbox for the Nook (original/not Nook Color) will not work. It is the wrong shape.
The trident cases are a pretty good alternative, however I am pretty happy with the Otterbox currently on my NC.
thanks, but none BAM in the west coast. I seen some online for $50+ which is not worth it. Because the NC is just little over $100.
When I get some extra money hopefully I can buy one
IMHO
Pretty new here, just thought I'd weigh in on this one. I've been using otterboxes for my Droid Incredibles (1&2) for a couple years and I've been thinking about getting one for my nook. They are awesome BUT the one thing that has stopped me so far is I tend to actually take my devices out with me, everything from work to camping and the otterboxes (as someone has mentioned) absolutely EAT fine dust. When I was landscaping I would have to take my droid out of the otterbox every night and thoroughly clean it, right down to removing the battery plate and I'm pretty sure I've lost some reception capability from the antenna contacts getting worn by the dust. Now of course the nook isn't going to be riding on the mower but it was such a problem with my droid that I just gave up on the cases entirely.
So my wife has an N7 with the Seidio Active case. Absolutely love it. Sadly, I haven't been able to find anything similar for my N10. I guess the Poetic Revolution is the only one I've found thusfar? Anyone have any experience with it? Other recommendations? I'd like to make sure I toddler proof this tablet as well. Angry Birds + 3 year old = N10 Frisbee. Thanks!
Proof? I doubt you can find :silly:
Resistant? More likely! In my opinion, you want to find the most soft, jelly, or padded case that you can find, and get that. The more hate it can take the better.
The major thing you want is drop protection. If the case / protector you get can protect your tablet from a 4 ft drop, it'll probably protect it from a little one even when they get around 2, possibly even 3.
I have http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AAKLMUC/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 and to be honest, as long as my little niece or nephew is in my sight I would feel confident with my tablet in their hands.

I have the revolution and feel like its pretty protective. Its pretty similar to an otter box case, even comes with an annoying screen protector built in just like an otter box.
The case has a usable stand for watching videos and a second stand that flips down for typing.
I also have a zugadgets folio case, it protects pretty well also. Really depends on if you like a flap or not.
If the child drops it while in use, I would say the revolution is better. When sealed shut maybe the folio.
It would hurt more to be smashed over the head with the revolution though.
You mena they don't just sit there and calmly watch Sesame Street?
I'm looking for a protective case for my Note 2 that has a grippy/hard rubber feel that doesn't slide around when I lay it down on it's back. I have an Otterbox commuter but the back is hard plastic and slides around a lot if I lay it down unless I flip it over. My wife has an Iphone and her otterbox has a very grippy rubbery feel that is non slip. I wish their Note 2 cases were like that. I'm looking at the Griffin Survivor case and was wondering if anyone has any other recommendations before I try it out? Thanks!

Do you know if the back is hard plastic or a softer rubber feel on the first one? I need it to stay put on a flat surface as I move around at work. The Commuter slides all over the place, which I cannot have. It will "stick" if I turn it over because of the rubber edges, but I need the phone to be face up/hands free. Thanks again for your suggestions.

From all the reviews and things I have heard about it, it seems to be in the middle. A hard rubber. So it's good for shock absorption. Definitely not a soft rubber because that would wear out very easily. However, from what everyone in the forums have said and from the amazon reviews, it seems like it will stay in place without issue. Also, it's only $10 and from amazon. If you don't like it, you can ship it back the same day for a full refund without any cost to you. Just keep the original box/packaging.
Here's a quote from someone who has it: "The back part of the case (the black exterior) feels more like silicone than plastic which gives it a nice look and grip. I have dropped my phone once on this case and I have to say that this case does a very good job on absorbing impact."

It's a hard plastic exo with a softer plastic inner. I have this case and it will not hold in place on a hard flat surface. Mine will not even "stick" when placed screen down. The kickstand is about a 4/10 (flimsy, too easily collapsed etc)
Also, the buttons, imo, are junk. Last night, after I started using this case again after owning it for ~6 months (used for 2 weeks), I took a razor blade to the buttons. Couldn't stand them being so difficult to press.
However, the drop protection is definitely up to the same level as the commuter, for being such a cheap case.
I'd say it's worth the price, maybe even less.
Also, I have a similar six abundant case that was free. And although it's very nice, and my most used case, it offers very little protection, and definitely not "grippy" on surfaces.
Wish I had some suggestions. The Griffin Sur. looks grippy. If you search the forum here there are a few people that bought one and commented on the quality. I believe they don't officially support it.. So it's actually a knockoff.
Edit2: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2174889 has info for the knockoff griffin. Enjoy.

Thanks for the input, bro. That's rather unfortunate. I guess other sources don't have the best description then.
Have you looked into the body glove case? That looks pretty nice and there is a lot of discussion recently on it in the Post Your Pics of Your Phone thread. Check it out.

Definitely bro, maybe others will chime in with different opinions about it.
I was actually just revisiting the idea of the body glove refined gel case (been subbed to that thread for forever). I remember it being a very popular case earlier this year. At one point there was an eBay seller with ~50 of them for $8+free shipping. I should have jumped on it then. I'm just afraid that the lower section of the case (shiny area) will end up scratching easily (read: shiny back mercury case).
Still haven't even gotten around to trying the UAG... Even though I designed and 3D printed some custom inserts.
What case are you rockin?

3d printing?? Dude that's awesome! I saw on geeky gadgets or theawesomer website ad about a 3d real time laser scanner. It was really impressive. Expensive ($1400 I think) but very cool. Right now I'm using my Six Abundant Case. I rotate between that and my white UAG case. The UAG case is worth it for me. It's not super bulky and protects my phone extremely well. I have large hands so I have no problem gripping and using my phone in one hand with either case on. I do have way too many cases at this point. I even have the casemate tough. Totally forgot to mention that. That definitely has a good feel in terms of grip and it is super slim for a fully protective case. Another nice one is the DBA ultra case. I'll most likely be upgrading to the note 3 so I stopped buying more cases, lol.

Yeah! Got into robotics development at my University a few years back and somehow got nominated to be the guy that learns the ins/outs of our 3D printer so that I can teach others everything about it (even the computer science professors). In the printing world, $1400 is fairly cheap for a production item.
I did see the 3D scanner. I believe it is going to be made by Makerbot. We made our own using a Kinect (think: xbox 360) to do real-time scans of objects and roll them into 3D files. However, I usually make one-off prints so I have to build them entirely by hand in a 3D environment.
Agh.. You are making it hard not to press the "complete my order" button for the black uag haha. I too have large hands/long fingers; I often get my iPhone-using-friends asking me how I always use one hand with this beast. If I was a female I'm sure I'd have gained muscle from just using it by now lol.
Forgot about casemate. I'll have to check them out. (have their tough case on my Skyrocket & love it)
I'll most likely be upgrading as well (if not at least a smart watch).. So now seems like a bad time for me to by yet another case.. But.. I have an addiction lol.

That's really nice, bro. I know $1400 is not that expensive when it refers to such technology, but I meant in general - that's like a nice fully loaded laptop price, lol. I'm familiar with Kinect/Xbox360 so yeah, that's really interesting. I'm sure the whole 3D development can take time from scratch. Maybe I missed them, but did you ever post pics of your 3D-rendered cases? I'd love to see how they turned out.
Yes, the Case-Mate Tough is solid. I have the same black one as in this teamvenum review: http://www.teamvenum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=686
I know you complained about the buttons you eventually cut out of your Sentinel case. This is where the UAG shines. The button design makes it super easy to press the covered buttons. The one thing I love about my UAG case is that I can just toss my phone around onto my bed or the table like whatever without any worry. The shock absorption technology on UAG cases is pretty solid. I even got one for my father's S3 and he loves it (esp since he is accident prone/clumsy with all technology, lol).
Yes, the smart watch upgrade is definitely happening for me as well. I can't wait till they release the Samsung Gear this September. It's definitely going to be a step up from my pebble watch, which I use and wear all the time.
Also, your addiction...I understand all too well, especially being a huge tech fanatic. If you don't have a solid protective/easy to hold case currently and work in an environment where you really need that, I would go for it.

I never printed any cases for my Note 2, just the inserts for the UAG case with lettering and glow in the dark filament etc. I did make four cases for my gf's S3 but in the end she moved to a pink folio wallet case (which would take too much time to make haha). I've since then had two dead SD cards.. So I've lost a lot of pictures (backups are my priority every 24hrs now..). The cases were more of a "wow factor" type of thing. Everywhere we went people asked more about her case than my huge phone lol.. Lead to a lot of explanations of what a 3D printer is.. But After a few times on/off of the case they'd get weak and start to crack at random layers of which the printer printed it (our printer has a resolution of 0.001mm).
Started sanding the area of the Sentinel case today that I hacked out with the razor to make it smoother. Only had about ten minutes with some 1600grit paper, so I got one side pretty smooth!
I wanted to pledge money to the kreyos smart watch but got worried that I'd be stuck with money in the air for it and no item on my wrist until next summer.. The galaxy gear is definitely going to be watched (pun intended)! As long as it stays within $200-300..
As you can tell, it's hard for me to commit to some purchases lol!
To op: I remember seeing some peel & stick grip strips for phones. They were just thin clear gel-type adhesive strips. Been looking for them but can't find the review. Honestly, I'd also like a grippy case..
Edit: found it! www.egrips.com/ check it out.
Thanks for everyone's input...much appreciated. I own the Bodyglove case but I is still harder plastic than I would like. Its a decent case though. I had the Casemate Toughcase for my Note 1 and liked it, very protective as well, but still had a hard plastic outer shell. Maybe I'll research on getting some type of nonslip rubber strips for my Otterbox to see how that works. There are a few cases mentioned here I'll have to take a look at. Thanks again to you all.

Try the DBA Cases Ultra protection cases very good quality and good feel
http://www.dbacases.com/samsung.html
I have the UAG case. I have used the UAG line of cases for all my phones and they are solid. They have the bevel in the front so if it drops face down you wont shatter your screen and it has extra cushion on the corner bumpers. They are only $30 - $35 online. They fit on my OEM samsung dock with spare batttery charger.
The reason why I trust all my phones in the UAG case is that my wife's nephew through my note down the escalator at the mall. My heart stopped as I saw it tumble and bounce off every step. When I went to get it, the phone and case didnt have a scratch on it. The otterboxes are great but they are way too big. Especially for our note.
I am using a cheap eBay tpu. Smoke clear and it is rubber. It works great and protects just fine. Best of all it was only a buck and a half! Rubber does a pretty decent job of keeping it from sliding around unless it is on something very slick. keeps good in the hand too

I have the body glove from sprint.
I feel it offers the best for daily use and it has pocketablility which is nice. It doesn't get hung up as it has a glossy surface at the bottom of the phone.
