Hi,
I git Kies to work fine using WIFI.
It will connect and after a few seconds, I can i.e. sync with Outlook.
Today I got my 32 GB MicroSD and I filled it with media on my laptop and popped it into my Galaxy Note. The media works, the card is recognized, all is well.
BUT: I tried to sync again, using Kies on WIFI. I will get a connection, but I can't see the items for syncing. The mouse over the connected device will say "Loading..." (in Portuguese - nit sure what the word is in English).
I repeated, uninstalled/installed Kies, etc.
I can sync fine using USB, but I would like to be able to do so using WIFI.
After like 2 hours of messing around, I removed the MicroSD and tried again: now it works!
Question: what on earth has the MicroSD to do with Kies over WIFI???
Can it be that there is a strange file? Then why does it work using USB?
Can it be that I simply have too many files and WIFI takes so much longer than USB to list the files? (I have it like this for almost an hour and still I can't see the media folders on the left or the top menu bar with the sync options)???
Any ideas?
Cheers,
vma
Is there a FREE alternative to Kies, when it comes to syncing Outlook (contacts and calendar) over WIFI?

Yes, it's called MyPhoneExplorer. Free phone app and the PC client app is also free. It syncs the various Outlook components really well and you can also backup / sync files between the phone and PC. Very impressive app.
Thanks.
Will try that one.

WOW!
This program is really good! Had to search for a second to find the Outlook sync option and you are required to exit Outlook in order to do the sync.
Other than that, it works flawless over WIFI, thus sparing heavy use on the MicroUSB port.
But the best of all, is that one gets a Note-App that syncs with Outlook's notes!

@all:
The original question is still in the air. Why doesn't Kies work over WIFI with my new 32GB card inserted?
Cheers,
vma
Found the fix!!!
Kies will work over WIFI ***ONLY*** if the SD card is unmounted!
You will have to go to Settings - Storage - Unmount SD card.
Then you can activate Kies over WIFI
And now it will work.
Very stupid thing, which cost me some time to realize, though I was close to nail it down, when I removed the card physically. I thought it had to do with the amount of files, but it doesn't: it rather gets in the way with the internal storage, which is a mounted SD as, well.
As a side note: has anyone opened up the Samsung Galaxy Note, to check if the internal SD can be upgraded with a 32GB one? Is it a real MicroSD, or is it a soldered flash chip?
Cheers,
vma
Thanks, you just saved me an hour, trying to figure out why Kies over WiFi refused to work.
This is just stupid, if it doesn't support a mounted SD card you have to make a whole lot of operations just to move some music to your Note.
Koreans and Japanese are the same, they basically think that end users are numbnuts, so they restrict everything they can do.

Yesterday my girlfriend told me all of a sudden her programs on her storage card stopped working. Well come to find out, it was like everything related to windows on the card was deleted somehow (program files, application data, etc.). She used to have the same card in a flip phone so the folders from that like music and pictures still exist. She hasn't changed anything on her phone, I usually do all that for her, so she wouldn't have done anything in that department.
Anyone heard of this happening before?
Any help would be greatful, I would like to possibly retrieve some files before I reformat the card.
Thanks in advance.
Step one: Buy a SD reader. You can get one on Ebay, Radioshack, etc. Very cheap. 5-25 dollars. I think 25 is even pushing it.
Step two: see if you can retrieve files with reader
Step three: after retrieving said files, format your SD card.
You forgot step four:
don't let girlfriends use technology and don't trust anyone when they say nothing happened

Very true. She sometimes can be a little thick, but with Windows mobile, who knows what can happen.
I've had the exact same thing happen to me. AT&T Tilt and 6GB Sandisk MicroSD.
File Explorer on the phone shows nothing on the card. Tried reading the card with a card reader on the PC and it also shows the card is blank. However, the Tilt's memory usage program still shows 3GB of memory is used on the card.

Same problem here (few times). Even change the SD card. Maybe something in power managment (kaiser tweak?)
Same problem here - lost a TomTom map just randomly - copied map back on, same files, same path.... still using and extra 1gb....
Good stuff...
Cart corrupting on Kaiser is often a problem, you can use a card reader and the soft R-Studio to try get your stuff back...it worked great for me =)
And after formating your card, try to install the Artemis plugin for Card corruption...=)

I have not heard about this plugin either. Interested!
I have had the same issue having lost tom tom maps pictures etc. I have actually installed the artemis card coruption fix as I had that phone b4 this one & it still has happened to me a few times. I am going to format card one last time & the phone from default & see if this occurs again, as I believe it to be caused due to excess heat from the device but that is only a hunch as each time it has occurred the phone has been red hot prior to this.
Peoples,
I am finding that whenever I attempt to copy a large file (>50Mb) to my device and SD card from PC using Activesync that it copys "normally", then times out, and tries to do it again! This happens for quite a while until I cancel the transfer.....
I am thinking that somewhere I have to change a setting so that this can happen (increase timeout length?, whatever.....)
Appreciate any help here, as I have had this issue with not only my Kaiser but other devices as well (Orbit).....
Many thanks!!
Have you tried waiting a looong time?
If you mean the Activesync progress bar jumps back to the beginning and then appears to start again, it's not actually timing out. The problem is simply that Activesync's progress bar misbehaves under large file transfers. If you just leave it for ever and a day (thats the normal time for large file transfers under Activesync) you'll find it should complete the transfer. If you need to get the files across onto the microSDHC card much quicker then just use the card reader it came with (at least for Sandisk 6 GB cards here in the UK).
get a cheap microsd to usb adapter as a reader
Thanks guys, I usually use a card reader but sometimes get lazy and think I can just "quickly" copy accross....appreciate the info, just never was patient enough to wait out what looked like a failing transfer!!
Cheers!!

The key is to realise it's not a failing transfer (despite what Activesync appears to show). I've used Activesync for large file transfers (using both USB and bluetooth) and since installing my USB 2.0 adapter card in my PC (to replace the onboard VIA USB 1.1 ports) I've made many large file transfers to the microSD card in the device and it always gets through in the end. Usually I just start the transfers before I go to bed and its ready in the morning. Will mention this bug to HTC in my next letter (one of many to add to the list).
Glad I could help.

In my case, I believe that it is actually timing out....
This happened to me several times, when I tried to copy a slightly larger file, it looked like Activesync timed out the connection.
A few times I tried transferring files of a few mb in size to/from my Hermes or Kaiser while connected via activesync, and it disconnected before the file was done.
If I am not transferring files, it seems to stay connected. Is there any way to prevent it from happening?
If it's just transferring files, there are many workarounds. However, I've got problem sync'ing my Kaiser with Lotus Notes via EasySync (from IBM). I have about 6000 calendar entries. Lately, every time when I tried to sync, EasySync went through about half of that, then quit - complaining about unknown error. I suspect that ActiveSync (which EasySync relies on providing the connection) timed out on the connection.
I did a lot of search on the web, and this forum. there were many hits on Google. But most of the questions and answers were more related to Exchange Sever timeout.
MSDN library does have a discussion thread. there is supposed to be a registry key called: "GetObject Timeout " on the PC side in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\Partners\DeviceID\Services\Synchronization. However, I cannot find this anywhere.
Any suggestions?
thanks very much!!!

If your Activesync connection is disconnecting altogether then thats not timing out. I had this problem when using my old VIA Motherboard USB ports and it was simply because the USB hardware/drivers weren't up to the task. Since installing my new NEC Chipset USB 2.0 Hi Speed PCI card the difference is like night and day in terms of Activesync connection reliability. What USB ports on what device are you using? What happens if you try the transfer using a Bluetooth Activesync connection (other than it taking even longer)?
I'm starting to fear if something is broken in the phone because no matter what I do, it fails to work with mac osX..
Any suggestions on how to get eg. WmWifiRouter work in macs, or even how to sync it with some synchronizer application -because none of them fails to connect me whether it's BT or usb.
I think the right procedure is to launch eg. missing sync or syncmate what else are there? which is the most reliable?), then connect the usb-cable, then choose Activesync as connection type and that's it?
Doesnt work for me No matter whether 'enable advanced network' is on or off. The applications simply fail to detect my device.
If I choose the disk drive, it works for a while as an external drive but soon stops responding or turns helluva slow.. I've tried copying pictures and movies from it for months now (tried this every now and then), but I'm running clueless on what to do
What are the correct bluetooth settings in mac with diamond? I cant get it to work either.
I want to use it as proper high-end toy, I even have 1mbit wireless net in it when using it with WmWifiRouter, but even that doesnt work for me and I cant understand why Help pls
I use Missing Sync for Windows Mobile, and I connect to Bluetooth. It syncs seamlessly and transfer files without problems.
You can find the program and / or the information here
Another option is Sync Mate, it's free for Standard version but you can buy additional options (iTunes sync etc) in the Expert Edition.
http://mac.eltima.com/sync-mac.html
Prefer it to Missing Sync personally.....
Missingsync vs. Syncmate
I tried both and my suggestion is not to try it. Reason being if you use Missingsync, use missingsync only. If you use Syncmate, use syncmate only.
However, Missingsync is better due to its more stable system. Syncmate tends to double copy items in calendar and contacts. It'll be an annoying mess to clean. I did it and it's no fun when you have over 500 contacts in your phone.
Anyway, that's my recommendation.

Only had that issue with an early beta of Syncmate, never had that problem again.
I have an expert edition from Eltima (sponsored by Eltima for testing their beta's ).
I must admit that the software had some hickups when it still was a beta, but I nowadays it's running like clockwork.
My 2ct's (euro cts = 2.75 $cts )
I'm going crazy trying to figure out why syncmate won't sync with my phone. I installed the driver on my phone, yet it doesn't connect with the program. I open syncmate and it never recognizes I have a phone plugged in. I've followed syncmate's steps to no success. Does anybody know what to do?
I tried both for a season and found MissingSync to be a generation ahead. It's been out for quite sometime and is very stable. I had hard time syncing with Syncmate. I sync my device via BT and works like a champ. It's a bit expensive but well worth the price.
My gsm diamond is arriving soon and I'm trying to make sure everything will work with my macbook pro (OSX Leopard), so I've read up on syncing programs for mac and upgrading hard spl etc.
My problem is that all the files I've come across for upgrading hard spl and radio are in .exe format. Is it possible to upgrade using a mac or do I need a pc with xp/vista?
As far as I know syncMate/MissingSync can't read and open .exe
(I've searched ways of "opening the contents" of .exe using stuffit and file juicer with the possibility of a .cab file being inside but to no avail. I may be barking up the wrong tree with this one...)
Sorry I've been searching for aages but couldn't find an answer. Is there a solution to what seems like a fairly simple problem...??
You can sync your WM device with your mac as explained before.
To upgrade the ROM, you will need a Windows installation. Personally, I tried to do it through a virtual machine with WMWare but never succeeded (It seems that once the device reboot, it is not recognized anymore by the virtual machine)

Actually, i always upgrade using the Mac:
-take the signed_image.nbh and rename it to DAIMIMG.NBH
-connect the diamond as a disc
-copy the file to the internal storage
-flash by rebooting into bootloader (volume down& back plus reset)
Safe simple & fast!
I've got a MacBook Pro, and I've been working around a bunch of these issues. First, why are you trying to cable sync your WinMo phone? You are better off keeping everything in the cloud. I have an exchange server at work, so all my contacts, calendar events, and emails sync OTA.
Also, Google has a new beta out:
http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138636&topic=14299
This lets you use your gmail account with Activesync if you don't have an exchange account. You can manage all your contacts, etc OTA for free. Much better than paying for wonky syncing software. Plus, when you flash your phone a million times, it's pretty easy to get everything back on
As far as flashing, you will need to flash from the bootloader from the internal memory if you don't use Boot Camp. Parallels won't cut it, either (not sure about VMWare); you have to be in windows for everything to work smoothly. However, it is nice that the Diamond can be put into mass storage mode; it makes copying files to the diamond a piece of cake.

The problem with that is that you have to delete everythin on the internal storage first. (I had to the last time)

You can't sync music and pictures with your solution.
I wonder if anyone can help me with a somewhat self-made mess. I've been able to sync fine with my Vista desktop using WMDC. However, I had some recent problems with media player trying to sync every god damn usb flash drive that I plugged in and on one forum somewhere I unregistered portabledeviceapi.dll using regsvr32.
I since found another solution to the annoying media player problem and re-registered the dll.
Unfortunately device center seems to have lost all my sync information and when I connected my Kaiser all the pim data disappeared! I managed to restore it as I back up every morning using spb backup. Interestingly the HanDbase sync module worked fine when I connected as I think it works separately from ActiveSync.
Can anyone make any suggestions as to how I can pair my Kaiser again with my PC without losing my contacts and diary? Ideally I'd like an "overwrite PC with data on mobile device" but you can't change these options until you make a connection, by which time everything has disappeared!
I'm afraid I can't speak with too much authority on this one as I only Sync with an XP laptop, I do connect my Kaiser to a Vista machine every now and then but it's only when dumping POI updates to TomTom and similar.
Unless I'm getting the logic wrong, or missing a crucial element, couldn't you set-up the sync between the PC and the PDA (with the PC then 'overwriting the PDA data with nothing'), then define as you mentioned that the PDA's contents have priority. Next restore everything from your spb backup, and then the next time you sync surely the setting made previously to give the PDA priority would mean everything is taken from your (spb-restored) PDA over to your desktop?
It's a bit clumsy and long-winded I know, but could it work?
Regards,
Rob.
Well I had everything backup up just in case. I actually reinstalled device center after downloading from the microsoft website. Everything just worked again after going through a long sync the first time. There were maybe a couple of duplicated calendar entries, not much to get upset about.
Will try not to go breaking things in future! Thanks for your suggestion.
When I found out my new Razr I couldn't use the SD card as a mass storage device, I was disappointed. I thought oh well, I guess it'll only be a problem if I ever want to take or dump files to friends computers but since having to rely on Moto's own device connection ways I'm getting a bit annoyed. First of all, if you want to "Move" a folder from for example, the root folder of the SD card into another folder, it's as if it's copying it bit by bit and takes AGES even in my USB 3 port. USB Mass storage has always treated the SD card like anything else in windows and will just move in a millisecond, but not this Also, I noticed upon transferring a folder which had 98 files, only 90 showed up on the properties once it was on the sd card I like to make sure transfers happened ok by comparing file sizes in bytes so this obviously throws it way off.
Has anyone come up with an alternative solution I wonder?
An alternative is a simple card reader
I think there were some experiments to get mass storage back, but i don't now if they succeeded...
But the new MTP - technology is better for the android system, it doesn't have to unmount the sdcard. and pc and android can parallel access the sdcard.
gesendet von meinem Motorola RAZR i rooted+unlocked
I guess they are some good reasons alright and yeah, I might have to start carrying a card reader so
Personally I like MTP, it's much faster than USB connection, but still it would be great to be able to choose from two options. I've read somewhere that even Motorola had problems with creating USB drivers, so it will be miracle if we see that option on our phone.

There, i solved all your problems.
Never heard of airdroid, will check it out, thanks
MTP seems a lot slower than USB to me? Just the fact you can't "move" like I described is enough
Ok airdroid seems cool, but it seems not to be working properly for me, I've managed to view my sms on web.airdroid.com and the phone details etc come up right, but the internal and SD storage are both showing as 5.13gb with 1.34gb free when my SD card is 32gb.
Also it's giving errors on trying to open photo/video/app folders.
Like the idea so if it can work it'd be great.
Agree
I agree, it sucks!
It´s so slow the cable connection, that it reminds me my old moto V360´s one. Unbelievable!

Works pretty well for me. Maybe you modified something?
Did you test it today? I saw great ratings for it this morning when I downloaded it first but then later today I checked back and the latest ratings were saying it wasn't working.
Didn't modify anything at all really, tried both with an account and without an account and same issues.
Hooking up Razr i to PC really sucks cause you always need to install drivers and Motorola application when you plug into a new PC (and remove they after, when PC is not yours). But I think wi-fi transfer sucks too cause it's slower. =(
When I need to transfer small files I use X-Plore app on Android. X-Plore can access shared folders on your network. It works like a charm!
When I need to transfer big files, I preffer to plug on USB. There's no other way...
