Native Wifi Tether on D3 - Motorola Droid 3

Which rom does the Wifi Tether work native? I did the radiocom hack on one of my D3's and it works fine, i'd like to get my other D3 to work without the radio hack. Is this possible?

I can tell you that Hashcode's ICS Beta and Mavrom both will work with WiFi Tether without the Radiohack for sure!

I have MAVROM 3.5 on GSM (AT&T) and hotspot worked without any hiccups.
I only tested once, ill keep testing. I also have the Unlimited $50 GoPhone plan on my Droid. Not sure if that makes a difference.

I have some 1gb transfer included in subscription...so i dont know if the traffic counts.

Just tested Mavrom, it's working great. Do we have any Kernels for overclocking?

Hashcodes has worked for a loonngg time. CM9 is great and my daily driver. Unfortunately D3 has a locked bootloader preventing any kernal flashing. However if your interested in overclocking, search the forums as there are multiple instances of that discussed and dl setcpu.

AOKP wifi tether works as well....and AOKP has built in setcpu so you can mess with it as well

Although I haven't flashed it, that makes sense. Hashcode is the brain behind both....

[XT860] - Updated Modified XT860 Patches

Thakns leobg for your post here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26043367&postcount=1575
I went ahead and created some updated XT860 patches, you can apply them from CWM.
I have tested the AOKP one, not the CM9 one, so please let me know if it is working.
These have been updated to match the nightly build.props from 05/14/2012.
Weird, Ijust use the ics xt860 patch on hashcodes site. Works great here even with the nightlies.

Yup, but that version is a few months old and a lot of the settings in the build.prop file are old, as well these patches setup for Canada.

Did anybody test CM9 one, please?
I am now on Marh version of cm9 ... quite happy with that - is installing some of nightlies worth it? Which one, please?
What is the Pramatrs difference between the two patches ?

There are a lot of differences, in the CM9 one there are a lot of CM9 specific features that AOKP doesn't need, and vice versa.
dani: Thanks for these. Which rom of the 2 did you choose? I installed AOKP 05-15 nightly and came across a weird APN issue. It's in the AOKP thread, post 494 ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26196280&postcount=494 )
Have you experienced the same issue? The simple solution for me was to modify the apns-conf.xml to only indicate the 1 good Rogers APN set, and re-install AOKP. I'm not sure if this happens for anyone else though... I was going to ask that you include the updated apns-conf.xml as part of the patch, but who knows... could have been a freak incident on just my phone.
Thanks again!

I just used the included APNs, and removed ALL of them except for the one you pointed out. Then I edited the authentication of that APN and set it to "none" (it is set by default to "not set") and everything worked.
I don't wipe whenever I change my ROM, that's too much work, esp when you're on nightlies.
Interesting... I may just do another install with your auth field trick and see if that works for me. Thanks man
I'm crazy about wiping when switching roms, but I haven't ever used nightlies before. I will try a non-wipe on my next nightly install for sure.
Thanks again

When I was running AOKP I flashed the nightlies without wiping. Worst case if you have a problem then do the wipe

Setting auth to None got me working just fine... thanks! I am now on cm9 and it is working much better than aokp for me. Lots of free ram on cm9!
Is there a signal bar fix available? I seem to only get 2 signal bars max (even though I have great reception... so not a huge deal). I remember a build.prop tweak where you change verizonglobal to 0 but I see that it is already set.

[Q][DEV] Kexec in new safestrap 2.10 how can we use it?

Hi, guys.
I'm trying to figure out how I can integrate it, basically, for stock safe-system at least.
I downloaded some ready-to-go droid bionic cm9 with kexec integrated, didn't understand the idea of devtree(probably it's patched). Should we compile kexec for ourself with modules? where can I read about it?
Thanks,
Oleg
Might want to check out the Eternity Project website. Kholk seems to be based there and I know he did a lot of the early work on this exploit.
Droid 4 - AOKP K1L0
I read there a little, but if hashcode can comment kexec thing, would be nice.
I saw that it tries to boot kernel when you start safe system, but still need some examples.

flashed, works fine. But I can't figure out why kexec doesn't boot in my motorola ics based rom
the one good thing I want to say for now - both CPU cores are working fine.

Sorry for my noobish question, but I have no idea what Kexec is or what it can do.
Would someone mind giving a quick summary?

Kexec is the future for D4 ROMs. It is an exploit that allows the flashing of custom built kernels. No more trying to build ROMs around Moto's stock kernel.

I think I saw via hashcode's twitter that the camera is the main problem area on the kexec builds.
Droid 4 - AOKP K1L0
Also having quite a difficult time getting gapps to flash. Pulled the 0429 build from goo-im and flashed multiple times but it's never present in the apps list. never seen this before hmmmmm
edit -- got it this (3rd) time, very strange but oh well.
Can anybody try to boot kexec kernel in the eclipse or my rom?
Tried to replace kernel modules, added kexec folder, no luck with booting.
Need to do something with ramdisk, I tried some changes, got cycle reboot after kexec load. Will continue

JB OC'ing?

I have searched high and low but cannot seem to find out if there's any ability to OC JB builds. I was running Eclipse and OC'ing with speedscript. Can you run speedscript with JB? If not, is there a way to OC on JB? Any help would be appreciated. I have definitely spent time looking or I'd not have asked... I hate jackasses like me, ha.

I know JB can be OCd. I'm using zach's speedscript posted over on DroidForums that includes a slight OC to 1260. Not sure if the speedscripts posted in the Eclipse ICS thread will work on JB but I don't see why they wouldn't.

can you post a link to the speedscript? I can't find it. I don't think the eclipse overclocks will work: aokp 10/22 doesn't have /proc/cpu_control, so you can't write to 'tweak_cpu'.

got it; thanks! so those extra modules work, too?
(edit) yep, they work. turns out that they are the same modules that myfishbear provides with his eclipse rom, so I'm using a modification of one of his overclock scripts; seems to work just fine. I bet his speedscript would work, too, but I haven't tried it yet.

[Q] Wifi Hotspot not working

Hey,
as i am using Avatar Rom at the moment i tried to use Wifi hotspot. It didnt work (as i refer that it comes with CM 10.1 ). I read that tonyp was able to fix it, but i was just able to see the fix in his own build?
Is the Hotspot fix available separately?
Thanks in advance! =)

No, it's not afaik. Use tonyp's build if you need it, or roll back to a 4.1.2 rom.

T-Mobile WiFi calling optimized ROM?

I have been looking for an optimized T-Mobile WiFi calling ROM, looks like no body cares about this feature because it is only few ROMS using this feature. I am using the stock rooted but it is bad with the battery and I am used to the battery use in Chrome ROM. Could someone point me to a good rom with the best features and battery with a WiFi calling enabled? Thank you.

its only available in stock(or stock based ROMs?). its added in by tmobile, and not open sourced(yet?). and the majority of ROMs are based on aosp, and the code wasnt put into aosp(yet?). so if you want WiFi calling, you'd have to use stock, or m.
I was about to post the same question... any answers?

The wifi calling bits aren't part of AOSP, a few people have tried to "reverse engineer" it, but with limited success from what I understand. I think part of the problem is finding a developer that has T-Mobile. Being that some of our devs are from all around the world, and even the ones in the US are likely not going to have T-Mobile. This makes their testing slower and/or harder.
I think there are a few that are still working on it, but I don't think it is a major focus of anyone. I know a couple have sorta given up on it.
tl;dr - No custom AOSP (or variations of it) currently have it that I know of, stock ROMs are the only ones (plural because this includes M dev preview) that offer the functionality.

You can get the factory images directly from Google, here. Or there are versions you can flash in a custom recovery and slightly customized versions floating around these forums.

No. Just about any ROM that has been updated in the past month or so should have it built in. The OP of every ROM should state if it includes it, and if it doesn't then there is a good chance it doesn't.
Just as a note, kernels also matter for getting wifi calling to work as well, if you decide to flash a different than what is included with the ROM.

PureNexus is optimized for Project Fi now, and T-Mobile calling is working fine. Been my daily driver since the first release July 5... I kind of miss crack flashing, but it's stable and has lots of great extras! Plus the Dev and community are super helpful!

You'll find WiFi calling in Dirty Unicorns, and in PureNexus as has been already noted, plus Chroma, I believe Minimal OS, AOSiP, as well as most stock based custom roms (include Gapps)...from what I can tell, no Cyanogenmod based rom has it...I'm sure there are others.
Best to flash and try it before fully setting up the rom itself. Here is why...if the feature is important to you, it can take a bit of tweaking to make sure it works...for starters, if going the AOSP route, you'll need a WiFi calling kernel (Lean kernel version 2.10.6 works perfectly), a proper T-Mobile WiFi calling modem, and those include 14R, 16R and 17R...and sometimes you'll need to toggle WiFi calling on and off, reboot, and you also may need to dive into developer options and flip the switch aggressive WiFi to cellular handover.
Good luck!
