[Q] Freeze when unplug USB keyboard - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought a USB host cable a couple of weeks ago on Amazon, and both keyboards I've plugged in work fine; the problem is when I unplug them, my Note reboots, which is really annoying. I try clicking on the notification to safely remove keyboard, but nothing appears to happen, and the notification remains. I'm on rooted stock LA4 with the AbyssNote 4.2 kernel. Has anyone experienced this problem? Anyone know how to fix it?

[Solved-ish] Usb charging and unplugging leaves notifications

After unplugging my phone from its charger, the "usb connected" and "usb debugging connected" stay in the notifications. Is there anyway to fix this?
Currently I'm using cognition's rom, and when I first flashed it, this problem did not exist. The only program I installed that I can think would affect the notifications is launcher pro. Are there any known apps our anything that would cause this? And if you want/need more info, don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks for any and all help.

While I don't know what's causing this, I could tell you that my guess is that it is NOT Launcher Pro causing the issue. I run Launcher Pro, and haven't had this issue on Cognition or Perception.
If all else fails, maybe try a reflash?
I think I just figured it out, but it will take more testing.
It appears to exist when I boot my phone while plugged in. Just restarted with my phone unplugged, and the notification goes away as expected after plugging it in and unplugging again.
Interesting glitch though. I wonder if it is a glitch in the ROM, or Android itself. And if there is an easy fix for it. Time for some research.

Phone stuck in landscape mode, calls always start on speaker.Car or headset mode?

Hi,
My phone is flashed with Darky 7.8
Recently, my phone has become stuck in landscape mode. When I dial into Test Mode, the accelerometer correctly identifies the phones orientation.
Another odd behavior I am having is that whenever I start a call it starts on speaker phone.
This is leading me to believe I have my phone in some kind of Car Mode, or Headset Mode or something. I have no idea, but I can't turn it off....
Anyone know what might be happening?
Thanks
Mitch
Bump. Has anyone experienced this problem?
It is very bizzare.... :S
Hi,
I'm experimenting the same weird behaviour! But the worst thing is that no matter which ROM I flash, even with a stock one, the phone eventually will get stuck on landscape mode. I say eventually, because when I wipe user data from clock recovery the problem is fixed temporarily. Also, I have the same problem with the calls going to the phone speaker. Have you been able to solve it m1tch37??
I have the same problem with phone stuck in landscape and phone starts on speaker. I didn't flash the phone, just wipe data and factory reset, but still the same behavior. In plus USB connection seems to not working.
Anybody, any idea?
... bump
Also experiencing this and tried uninstalling various applications to no avail. Also noticed that the USB connection isn't working (can't mount with USB debugging set both on and off).
Really annoying because you have to switch the way you've trained using this phone.
bump..
nobody has managed to fix this issue.. i tried checking if the sensor is ok and it shows fine, i have stock leaked gingerbread but it does the same on froyo as well. is this a hardware issue???
Guys I've been through this problem but the solution is very simple
just deassemble your device and clean it from inside with a special liquid.
I did it and it worked fine.

the kernel is ok, i think it has something with its charging port because it does not connect to pc, only charges of it.
it happened to me accidentally flash the wrong kernel. So wen I flash the one everything goes ok. Why not try it maybe same will do.

Just like to say that I had this same problem also and can confirm that cleaning the usb port terminals does work, I just used a bit of clean paper and rubbed inside the usb port until all dirt was out restarted phone and now it works, didn't need to disassemble phone, Thanks for the advice guys

[Q] Captivate Won't Charge But Will Recognize PC Connection

Edit: It looks like this is a hardware issue and I'll likely try to get it replaced via insurance since I cannot revert to stock using Odin. It is impossible to revert without using Odin right? Thanks to all who read!
To start, I just want to state that I've searched and searched for answers/information on this (not just on XDA forums either) and I haven't found a similar issue - my sincere apologies if I missed it.
Quick "this post is way too long to read" Summary:
1. Phone will not charge
2. Phone will recognize PC connection via USB but with no functionality
3. PC will not recognize phone
4. All details on what I've done so far below
Friday 3/4/11 - I used a USB car charger (link below) to charge my Captivate with a USB cable known to be working (had worked on my Captivate before, works on my brother's Captivate). If you're asking why I used that charger... well I got it for free with my E-71. I'll never use it again. Anyway later that night I tried to charge my phone on my official AT&T A/C charger but nothing happened - the phone acted like no USB was inserted.
newegg[dot]com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882923001
Sorry for the bootleg link, this certainly isn't spam but I'm not allowed to post links yet.
Since that date, my Captivate won't charge via AC power cord. My PC won't recognize it either, but here's the weird part - my phone recognizes when it's connected to the PC via USB. For example, I can connect the phone to the PC and it will state "USB connected" on the Android pull-down (top) menu. Since I have mass storage chosen as the default, it will give me the option to send or receive files from the PC from the same menu. However, if I attempt to actually take that option, the pop-up menu which allows you to mount your memory cards does not come up. In addition, if I have the phone in USB debugging mode and I connect to my PC, the phone recognizes that as well. The PC does not recognize the phone in any capacity, at any time. No matter what I've done so far it will not charge via A/C.
Background: I've had my phone for a little over 6 months now, I've been running Cognition 2.1.6 since about 3 weeks after I got it - before this problem I haven't done any modifications whatsoever since the first load of Cognition. My PC is Windows 7 Ultimate 64. To rule out a bunch of other things, I've tried to use multiple USB cords that are known to work with a different Captivate and my Captivate prior to this problem (3 to be exact), I've uninstalled and reinstalled all Samsung's drivers on Windows, and I actually reinstalled Cognition using the three button recovery mode. To further rule out external problems, I just put Serendipity on my brother's Captivate using the same USB cord and PC that I'm attempting to use with my phone. He had been using the exact same version of Cognition I was.
I of course tried to revert the phone to stock using ODIN in order to fix the problem. I attempted to use the two button method (hold volume keys and insert data cable from PC with Odin running) but of course since the USB is not working properly that didn't work. It's worth noting that the described method worked perfectly for my brother's Captivate to revert to stock in preparation for installing Serendipity. I attempted to manually unmount and remount my memory cards several times, change USB modes between mass storage, Kies, modem, etc - nothing seems to work. The phone seems to be completely normal except for this USB issue. One last thing that's strange is if the phone is powered off and I have the USB A/C charger plugged into it, I cannot turn it on. When I hold the power button a relatively small spinning circle comes up after a second or two near the top of the screen. It disappears when I release power. If I remove the USB cable and hit power again it powers up completely normally.
Because of all of the above, I'm 99% certain that the issue is with my phone (not from any other external source). My only uncertainty is whether this is a USB hardware issue or a software issue where the phone is trapped in some sort of limbo due to being in a quasi-data mode which is causing it not to charge via A/C power and causing the PC not to recognize it. Has anyone had an issue remotely like this? I've come to terms with the sinking feeling that this is a hardware issue and that the only option I'm going to have is for my phone to be accidentally run over by a car (in order to pay my $125 and get a "new" phone under AT&T insurance). If anyone has any suggestions I'll be more than happy to try, maybe we can get this thing fixed!
If you made it this far I'll just say thanks for reading my wall of text and thanks in advance for any advice you have.
Were you able to get this issue resolved? It just started happening to my Captivate earlier today, and I was hoping that a solution had been found.
I haven't been able to get it resolved, I actually just sort of gave up on it and went back to my old phone for now. I have insurance so I'm not totally screwed, but it's not that cool obviously.
Were you able to get anything resolved on your end? If so I'd love to hear how. The one good solution would be a package to restore to stock that you could run through update.zip on a memory card, that isn't available yet is it?
i have this issue as well. I flashed Cognition 4.4 and it ran just fine for a couple weeks and then it began not even recognizing the micro plugged into any power source or the samsung dock! debugging on or off, battery saver apps removed, all that. multiple reboots. nothing. it takes a spell of, if i'm lucky, recognizing it after i eff with it for a few minutes and flukes a decent charge but at night, it usually has a loop cycle charging effect. I can hear the "boop beep" charger plugged in sound over and over throughout the night.
i use the phone in my cars and everywhere with the same problem.
no resolution! HELP!!!
I came across the same problem with USB on ARMANI I9010 after installing Cognition5. The most unpleasant is that i have bought it abroad and there is no possibility to return it
Does any body found the solution?

USB port problem doesn't let the phone sleep

Hey guys.
I have the famous USB port problem, in which, even after disconnecting the charger, the phone shows charging, and dis-charging in an infinite loop. So due to this, the screen doesn't switch off because, due to this problem, the phone thinks that the charger is being connected and removed, connected removed .. so on. and hence, the phone sometimes acts like a heater, and also oozes battery. Just like is in the starting of this video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duzTDyt_bN4
As a solution to this problem, I switched to MIUI (the Venegence MIUI 5), which recognized the small intervals of charging and disconnecting as just charging, and hence didn't keep the screen on. But there was a problem. the MIUI got bloated, (and also i got pretty bored using it). so i had to swith to official JB again. And again the same problem continued.
If MIUI doesn't recognize the small connect and disconnect, why does the TW JB? and is there any tweak that can be applied on the stock JB rom, to not light up the screen when charger is connected? i think that the phone keeps the screen on because it thinks that it has been connected -> 'turn screen' on and disconnected -> 'turn screen on' and connected -> 'turn screen on' again. If it is said to the phone, don't turn on the screen when connected or disconnected, then i think the problem is solved. then there is no other problem on the phone like the others have. - pc not recognizing, connect disconnect sound or anything. everything else concerning the USB port is working fantastic. just this screen on thing.

It's Note's weak spot. I had the same problem and it's obviously not rom related. I fixed it by replacing the usb port. It's a couple of bucks on ebay and there are YouTube guides on how to do it.

there is xposed module which includes the option for wake up on plug. Gravity box has it, there should be another module too with that feature. Also in Omnirom it is already included in settings>display>wakeup on plug if you uncheck it, it wont wake up on plug and unplug.

You dont need nothing of these things, you only need your phone rooted and ICS or + (even kitkat supports Xposed modules).

But the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2316070 says (and that too in red) that it is not for the TW roms. Can you confirm? Can you provide with some instructions or link which i should follow for installing Xposed module on the stock TW JB roms? I currently have TW JB + HelloWorld kernel.

I first installed the gravity box, set the don't wake on plug, rebooted, but the screen still turns on. removed gravity box, installed the xposed additions, set the don't wake on plug, rebooted. the screen still turns on, but it vibrates when the display shows charging and not charging. I suppose the Samsung Framework doesn't support don't wake on plug unplug.
can anyone tell me which kernel is required as prerequisite for the omnirom? I am currently on the helloworld kernel. does this kernels CWM has the selinux support?

I have found 2 revisions for the same part. how to know which revision fits inside mine? the date on version 1.0 is 08/2011. i bought my phone in 06/2011. so i think this must not be the rev i need. maybe the 0.0. but does it matter? is it important to know which rev is inside mine? or is the 1.0 backwards compatible, in case i have the 0.0?

I didn't find any difference while searching for mine. Just look for n7000 usb charging port replacement.
http://m.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?kw=G...d=&sqp=&_trksid=p2056088.m2428.l1312.TR1.TRC0
The second one comes with screwdrivers.
EDIT
Just checked my old usb charging port that I still keep after it has been replaced and it has the following stamp with golden letters:
N7000/I9220_SUB_REV1.0 2011.08.30
I bought my phone May 2012. Not sure if it matters though...
Hope this could be of some help.

Phone restarts every time I plug in the AC charger

Does anyone face this problem as well??
Whenever I plug in the charger, or even the USB type-c cable into my phone, if the other end is connected to any power source, my phone would freeze for a while and then restart.
Does anyone have an idea about this problem?
Have you tried different adapter/cable/USB port? How old is the phone? Using stock firmware?

Hay, my suggestion, backup all data, fully reset and format internal, i have this problem long ago, after update new firmware, escepcially if then place TWRP, doing root with magisk and kernel custom.

Yes, I have tried a bunch of cables, adapters and USB ports. I've tried one plus & Samsung chargers, tried plugging in the car, laptop and also some battery banks. There's nothing much I can do now. It seems that the moment the type c port is in contact of a current source, it freezes and eventually restarts.
The phone is almost a year old now, bought it last October. I started experiencing this problem in March. I have been living with it quite a while now. I was waiting if anyone else experienced this particular problem but it seems that no one has. The only freezing videos I saw were from another issue wherein the phone automatically restarts while being used. Mine won't restart abruptly, it would do that only when it actually touched a power source. But here I feel the problem is quite different.
I'm still using the stock firmware. I have tried factory resets and also followed the instructions on this link too.

Another issue is that I bought it in India last year, and now I'm located in Canada. I can't go back to India to get it fixed by ASUS since they don't provide an international warranty.

I might root it pretty soon and flash a custom kernel. But I hardly think it's gonna solve any problem
