can someone please explain to me all the differences in the ICS roms?
im just confused about them since they all seem to be the same
pretty simple man look at the difference or just play with them we only have like 3. ics4bionic is dhackers he used a cm9 source a "ics cynogenmod" there is axiom don't remember the real name this is a aokp based.. similar to cynogenmod but a bit different.. also has some tweaks in it "mastermods" you can change status bar color clock etc.. add nexus on screen buttons... Last but not least is "miui4eva" this is a open sourced ics build used cm9 as a base at this time.. it is a highly customizable o.s. lockscreen changes pretty much anything you want to change you can.. HOPE THIS SUMS THINGS UP FOR YOU

Is it possible to make the new miui lockscreen flashable just like the miui camera is?
Should be able to. Just try to push it to system/app before you do just to make sure its gonna to work first.
The lockscreen in miui isn't an apk so I don't think it is that easy. I doubt their lockscreens will work on other rom's either.
Oh ok. well I don't know much about miui. Im sure someone could figure it out though
Just use MIUI its better anyway.... Has Iphone, sense3.0, and gingerbread lockscreens without zips to install just go into themes...
I'm pretty sure it's tied into the framework... so, lots of work to do there if you're truly interested, haha. I'd use MIUI but CM7 is just faster and there's a million more, IMO, useful customization features compared to MIUI... pretty much the whole Cyanogenmod Settings tab. The one thing that really bugs me about MIUI is the menu system. It's beautiful, as it replicates that of the iPhone, but it's always been so laggy for me, I can't deal with it.

That's a shame. From the pictures, it looks like a combination between the honeycomb ring/ripple-lock and the sense 3.0 ring-lock. Both of which I like, so the newest miui lockscreen had me all excited. Lol

MIUI is built from open source but the rom itself isn't open source. It simply isn't possible.
MIUI > Vanilla Android
I was a loooooooooong time CM6 and CM7 user. But the latest MIUI is blazing. IMHO it's faster than CM7 in day to day use (I don't benchmark) and more stable.
MIUI has so many hidden subtleties throughout the ROM. Use it for a week and see if you like it
I liked MIUI in the froyo days. It was super stable and smooth. However ever since Gingerbread it's been much laggier across the board and far less stable than the froyo build. Swiping between homescreens is no longer smooth unless you use a hack that disables wallpaper scrolling (miuiandroid build) or keep your homescreens widget free with minimal icons. Of course if you use an alternate launcher then that isn't even a concern. But as mentioned earlier, the menus are also very laggy and annoying to use. I will admit the new dark theme makes it look a dream, but it has a bug that makes screen rotation take a relatively long time to flip and as such less usable.
CM7 may not have the aesthetic superiority that MIUI has but at least everything is smooth and gingerbread. I would love to see the MIUI lockscreen on CM7 but that will never happen.
Sent from my Droid Incredible using the XDA app.
To all that have a complaint about MIUI - the rotation lag is normally tied to a theme at the moment, I don't get lag anywhere else. Make sure you try your favorite launcher as well - I don't like the one that comes with it but if I swap over to Go launcher everything is nice and smooth again and I can find my stuff!
On the other hand, I have never found a rom other than CM7 with so much raw speed. CM7 will restore all my stuff insanely fast - all others are fairly slow in comparison. But how often do you go restoring everything unless you swap roms daily and are on fresh builds! I have really been enjoying MIUI lately, especially with the new themes and lock screens.
I'd say my favorite thing about MIUI is not having to install a decent camera app everytime. That was kind of annoying with CM7 which is otherwise wonderful as is.
Is it possible to get the MIUI battery bar on a Captivate I897 Rom? If so how? Thanks....

I'm taken it that it isn't possible.
Thanks,

DAGr8 ROM obsession has it. Team obsession figured out how to implement it on a i9000 based rom

Go into the miui rom and take the battery photos and xml's the battery need to be able to operate. What rom did you want it on?

Battery Bar
Well Im currently on Fasty III v1.2 KJ3... If you could explain to me how to do it I would like to learn so I can do it in other ROMs. Thanks!
I am away from my computer so this might not be as highly accurate...
Get the apk manager.zip tool (google it)
Then dowbload the latest miui and other rom you want it on
Open both system/framework/framework-res.apk's using apk manager.
Then find any xml or.png related to the miui battery in the miui framework
Copy them all
Then paste them in the respectable folders in the other roms framework folder.
Then recompile the other roms framework.
Then you should have a working framework with the miui battery icon
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Problem is I have no idea what files are related to what files.
When you open up the framework you can tell they usually have stat_battery in their name
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I found two files stat_sys_battery.xml and stat_sys_battery_charge.xml and thats it in the MIUI's res/drawable folder.
I have wanted to try to implement that for a long time...just don't have the smali/xml smarts. Hopefully after Dags crew enjoy the exclusivity for while they would be willing to share
When I get the time I'll look into it, even though I hate trying to theme Fasty I'll see if I can implement something like that to Fasty...No promises though, I haven't seen how MIUI is set up.
I thought a battery mod for a I897 ROM wouldnt matter as long as its gingerbread and not MIUI/CM7. I thought the file system is pretty much the same for every I897 ROM. I have been digging and i have found a miui site that has several colors you can dl and the file is the SystemUI.apk. I can post a link later so u can look at the file system and files.
EDIT: HERE is the link that I found that has a DL of different colors of the bar for MIUI
HERE is a link to a thread where its being implemented into CM7. Look at post #17
Sorry not trying to put a damper on things but there's more involved than just copying xmls and PNGs over. Plus... Obssession has color change options in settings. Not just a CWM update that replaces the whole SystemUI. You can change to your favorite colors at any time.

see thats the thing , this one is part of many mods , its not as simple as cutting one tiny part out , not to mention the ability to put it on and needs ab apk ..
I have many mods in my i9000 rom Im sure ppl coudl look into and port to i897 ,
theres a reason I havent done so myself yet , the kernel without source makes imo the i897 rom sub par i9000 roms by a long shot , but I guess that opinion is not shared , once a real kenrel comes out pm me if I miss it, il make an unthemed base for i897 rom with pleasure

I understand. I too am running an i9000 base... I was just saying that for my knowledge, its a bit above me. I just finally figured out this build how to add the locks on my own...probably, at least for me, my biggest achievement, and with my knowledge, was able to help Johnson get them implemented into his ROM..a captivate base.
I have mad respect for what you do. And hopefully someday I can learn to get that battery bar up there. I ain't in no hurry though. I am still basking in the light of my little achievement
Much admiration..

I have mad respect for what you do haha. I am trying to learn how to implement different lockscreens and the like into roms.
But just today is when I realized he was talking about the battery bar, not the battery icon. The bar is quite over my head, I've been looking into it for about an hour now and I am probably just going to give up.
Have this on my Windows Mobile phones, Dash and Wing. Flashed Juggernaut Rom and damn, blast from the past. Would be better I think as a zip file or apk file so we could install on any rom. Would love this on my SGS2.
you can haz it
Hey guys was looking for stuff for my GF's phone and found this thread. sorry for ressing an older thread but hey.

hello all xdains
well as we all are aware of media bug problem of ics roms on galaxy s and relatively very bad battery life as compared to gingerbread roms but relatively sexy look and tons of customizations compared to gb roms....
i have used almost all ics rom for a while...but battery life purely sucks...except for elite's rom...
according to me...cm9 is only rom without media bug(no doublets in gallery and music player)
AOKP has gone very very far as compared to other roms and its snappy too...but still this media bug is still there till now...and i dont have even a single idea why AOKP developers are not looking into that properly...
MAIN purpose of this thread:
Kindly suggest the ICS rom without the "media bug" and good battery life
Media bug refers doublets and triplets in gallery and music player(i hate it)
little bit off topic:
FOR those who want to run ics but they are pissed of by media bug and battery life can try following configuration like me:-
1)install latest cyanogen mod 7 nightly
its having rotation animation and swipe to clear notification
2)install devil's kernel for even more smooth experience
3)install ics notification bar mod and ics theme by sonny sekhon(i hope i spelled his name right)
and trust me...latest cm 7 nightly with devil kernel is better and more snappy then the best ICS rom out there...and 3D performance is amazing purely...
Battery life is amazing...
In short,Everything is amazing....with most of the features of ICS...
BUT,one thing which me(or all of us using cm7) go back to ICS is our galaxy s android section has become "all about ICS",every new mod or some new app comes just for ics,n we(or atleast I) GB users feel kinda outdated (like 5 mins back when i couldnt install tw5 on my cm7)
Well again...Kindly tell which ICS rom is without the media bug and having good battery life...
Thanks

checl this thread out...you will a lot of mod for cm7 in order to achieve cm9 look and layout...
nobody wants to help solving this bug????
though i found somewhere that media rescan can help solving this bug temporary...
Hey there,
This has probably been answered before. so a simple redirect would be ok.
I love the stock look of the N7000 (menu buttons and locker) but all of the 4,3 roms have the Nexus menu buttons and app locker suck. I find those horrible to use.
First question... what would it be called (kinda nooby when it comes to launchers and such).... Are they called AOSP or AOKP or something.. or is it completely different.
Are there any roms which look like the stock rom.. but with enhanced features with the new 4.3 features?
Thanks in advance.
Ricky
aosp, aokp, cm, miui are just rom types.
By saying menu buttons you mean the whole look of an interface. You mean You want this stock 4.1.2 samsung blue stuff?
Because if this is what You want you may want to download samsung theme for cm from the google play.

That makes sense,
Just hate the look of the nexus/whole tablet interface of the rom new roms..
Just stuck with the updated version of LiveNote 5.2.
What are you rocking?

I'm using PA myself and it allows for nice customization when it comes to looks. Have you tried that? There are also a few fun launchers that might solve your cosmetic issue. Is it mostly the new DPI settings you're having trouble with? Or just the general art style of Android?

I haven't tried PA yet. Next on the list.
I am looking for a stock icons/colour scheme, the apps logo not to look like the nexus variation of droid. Just me being an oldschool stock visuals.

I'm currently running Lungo ROM (android 4.0.4) because it's light.
If You are searching for more functions use PA, or the best "Jellybam".
That's the best ROM ever, but it uses a LOOOOT of memory.
This is probably a silly question, but... I feel the need to ask it anyway. After recently switching back to a gb (for battery life reasons) rom XquiziT_SGH-T679_v6.1 to be exact, the only thing I noticed is the lacking "theme chooser" ability. What I wanted to know was is it possible to theme a rom that doesn't have theme chooser already built in? Or is there a way to apply it to a rom without it?
I've tried pretty much all the gb roms available and they all had some sort of issue that made my phone try and implode. This xquizit one seems quite stable and performs as I want it to, just... missing a little personalization. Basically what I want to do is change the ui "blue" to a purple. something like cm7 purple punch theme.
Thanks for any info/advice!
Theme chooser is in AOSP based roms only. Examples, cm, pa, PAC, aokp, etc. The only gb rom we have with that feature is cm7.
