I was using the times magazine app in webos and the display was perfect, but in cm9 the display is distorted and the lettering is too wide and short. I tried changing the dpi settings but it didn't seem to change anything. Anyone know of a solution? Is this a problem because it's incompatible with ics? There are several other apps that are also distorted (like msnbc) but those are not meant for tablets. Any help would be appreciated!

You don't happen to have the latest time magazine apk do you? Can't get it to install from google play as I'm outside the US.
there was a thread about all Time magz apps in rootzwiki with a hacked version to fix the screen ratio issues

Anyone else having touch screen issues with the Nook App running on CM7? I can touch the Types drop down but when the choices appear, I have to touch "My Files" several times to select it. It takes a ridiculous number of tries, otherwise I wouldn't be posting it here. Same applies to the gears icon on the top right of the app. That is the icon you have to click for logging out. And I have to click it some 50 times for it to work.
I thought I had touch screen issues in those areas of my NC but I just had a chance to play with another NC and it had the same issue with the gears icon. My Files worked after a couple of tries.
I am not entirely sure what is going on. I like the app and will not mind switching to it (from FBReader) but this is driving me insane.
Yep, I have the same problems. I've given up on using that app, and just use Aldiko for my reader.
Thanks for chiming in. I now know I am not the only one.
This issue and the fact that it always starts at home and makes you pick a book every time you start are the two big annoyances with this app.
On the other hand, it looks gorgeous with smaller fonts and Amasis is a very readable font at smaller sizes. It even makes the other fonts render beautifully. So much so that even the sans-serif fonts look very readable and easy on the eye.
Oh and calling the brightness dialog fades the screen so you can't tell exactly what brightness you are getting. Seems like no one ever used the app in real life.
I have been using FBReader for a couple of weeks but I have only one font that is usable on it. I have tried Amasis and other Nook fonts but they don't render as well in FB as they do on Nook. FBReader is very plain and boring (yet functional) so I was considering switching. Yes I am vain and distracted easily.
Not only are you not alone, but others have commented on this since it came out.
It's a shame, because it otherwise is a good reading app. If it also read Nook magazines, I would buy more of them, but I'm about to switch to Zinio for magazines because I can't read them on the Nook app unless I go back to stock.
am I missing something? I read magazines fine on my app...

Yup...mine displays magazines fine also. What version of the Nook app are you using? Should be 2.6.1.35...the newest.

I had the same issue with the nook app with CM7, the screen in the too right (no matter what orientation you are holding it) is extremely unresponsive.
Its odd because I just changed over to Miui for nook and the problem does not exist any more. So it is obviously something with CM7 (but not Miui, which is based off CM7) I also believe I had the same issue with phiremod.
Also, have never had a problem reading magazines with any of the roms.

I had touch issues on my Nook app reading magazines. Eventually got it to work - but it wasn't easy to get it to load my magazines and respond to touch screen. Other apps were working just fine.
I hope they get it worked out - was kindof a PITA to deal with.
Cuhulin, have you looked into dual booting? Mine is set to dual boot between tock and CM7 since my 4 year old like the "elephant book" it came with.
mg1030, is this http://www.miui.us/ the miui you speak of? It seems intriguing. Are you running it from SD Card? Any pointers on how to install it to NC? It seems very iPhone like.
Hello. I'm sure this has been asked many times, and I apologize for adding another, but I still can't seem to find a solution to this. So the new market app v3.0.27 (is that even the latest version?) doesn't show all the apps, particularly in the "Top Free" section. It also won't allow me to download certain applications like Google Books. The market was running fine just a couple of days ago, but I don't know what's going on now. I tried clearing market cache and google services data but that didn't work ether. Any suggestions?
I am currently running Phiremod 6.3 with the transformbread theme.
Thanks in advance
This is happening to me as well. So far I've been unable to get Flash and Facebook as well as a few others. If I figure it out I'll update.

You can always try uninstalling the market updates. Or installing an old vending.apk
Use search, you'll find TONS of posts relating to this in the past couple weeks.
HRDLYWRKNG try this
First force stop market and clear the data and cache.
Go to system\build.prop
change the line qemu.sf.lcd_density=161 to 160
reboot and market should work
If you could see movies then you should be able to upgrade and download any app without issues
May I know if you are in America? If you are not, try VPN. For me after upgrade to CM7, Angry Bird and many other application only appear after I used an US IP addres..
yup changing the screen density to 160 worked like a charm. Thanks again guys
Those instuctions(pdf) worked for me.
You can also switch back to 161 after you get it to work. Market took up a lot of resources after time under 160. Also had a few problems with apps like the nook app. When switched back you will still have a working market
Skip everything I just said. It worked for a little bit but now it sucks again

As I have stated elsewhere, using 240 instead of 160 to fix market and it appears to work flawlessly ( no data clearing, no app problems etc). Going on over 3 days now without having to do a single thing with the market.
Dunno why this should be the case, but market really is more stable at 240 than 160.

I don't like my icons that big. I would rather go through the lame process of changing my dpi and clearing market every few days then to be stuck at such a large dpi. Maybe I will switch to 240 when I do it but it's not going to stay that way

Hi all. All of the sudden (or maybe I just noticed) hardly any apps are compatible with my device on the web market.
I had the latest apk with the +1 and yellow incompatability message so uninstalled it to try and resolve the issue as I was getting the message for most apps even ones like Skype which say in the description they are compatible!
I was on kratos when I first noticed it (full restock and flash as per guide). I have wiped cache, dalvik, fixed permissions, factory reset, re flashed, smashed my head against a wall etc etc you name it- nothing works.
I like my LCD density quite low at 175 and have heard this can cause issues but this problem seems to occur even at 240. I'm on 200 now and running an older market as I'm also now running cm7 because I was sick of this happening on overcome- it seems I'm the problem though, not the Tom, otherwise everyone would have this issue. WTF is going on?! What can I do?! On the older market a massive handful of apps don't show, and on the web market pretty much anything is incompatible.
I know this type of thing is discussed in variances across different threads but it is my hope that by starting this thread anyone else who might share my problem or get it in the future or already have solved it, will be able to come here for some answers.
Hope someone can help me!

This has just started happening for me too. I have a feeling its because I don't have a SIM card in it and I'm only using it with WIFI. I've seen similar issues with owners of the P1010 which is WIFI only. I can't be sure if that's the problem but it's driving me crazy.
Please help :|
Could also be the new version of the market? I tried uninstalling the update but it just reinstalled straight away and the 'market autoupdate' app doesn't show up in the market for me...
Hi I have also found the same just after installing LCD density and changing it to 200 I have a sim card installed so it is nothing to do with the sim. I manage to download the apk's from other sources and love the screen at the new LCD density setting so will not be uninstalling it.
I changed my density as well and have the same issue. The solution I have found is that the old version of the market works fine, so uninstall the update, then either delete or rename marketupdater.apk.
Your market should now function properly.

Where is the marketupdater.apk? I did a 'find / -name .apk | grep market' but nothing. Or do I need to uninstall the market updates first?
I use an app called systemapp Uninstaller, I found it in system apps

Thanks a lot. That did the trick. I used a free apparently called Remover.
Hopefully Google fix this soon. I liked the look of the new market

Hey dudes...
This solution worked for me and my viewpad7 w/ FlintFire ROM and screen rezised. The market was driving me crazy with "your device is not compatible with this application" message.
Thanks a lot!
Thanks for the input all, I'll give it a go. I know that I can reach market updater through t.backup. if it works I'm going down to 175 that's the perfect LCD density for me!!

another longstanding problem that google has - seems like they don't bother fixing the Gmail app - such that the images displayed are auto-scaled and appears within the confines of our 5.3" screens.
any workarounds for this? would prefer not to use a 3rd party app if possible. mods would be awesome!
Nothing yet bigger images remain that way even in the browser on a PC..

i thought it was something very basic and achievable
On my 7.7, with CM9, The Economist app always crashes when I swipe to the next page in an article. However, on my S3 phone, with CM10, the app works fine: the phone layout presents each article as one long text, you only swipe at the end to move to the next article. No swiping inside articles, so predictably no crashes, and successful swiping between articles.
Is there any way to trick The Economist app into treating the 7.7 as a phone instead of tablet? I hope that will solve the problem.
If anyone has a different solution, or knows more accurately what causes the problem, please share.
As this is my first post, let me say: thank you all for sharing your findings and improvements to make good Androids even better.

Solved: After reverting to 4.0.4 with the official Samsung fw (Open Austria), the Economist app works.
I first tried installing Paranoid (2.53 then 2.55), to force the Phone layout on the app, but that blocked the app from installing. Same problem with CM10.1.
If anyone gets the Economist app to work on 4.2, please post. Until then I'm staying with 4.0.4.

You could always get the mobi version and read it in Kindle, that's what I do.
