Galaxy note with windows 8 connection problem. Please help. - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just installed windows 8 Consumer preview. I had my Galaxy note working before with the USB connection on windows 7, but now after windows 8 is installed over 7 I have a problem connecting my Galaxy note with the computer. It seems that it is an MTP problem or something went wrong after windows eight is installed. I have read on a Microsoft MSDN post that the mtp protocol is not yet supported with windows 8. If there is something that I can use to work around that It would be appreciated. Please help.

Try installing Droid Explorer on your PC.
All of us on ICS Roms have the same USB connection problem, and this little program is the solution. It recognizes our Notes automagically without Windoze drivers.
Don't know if it'll work for you, but it's worth a try.

I will do that. But would it make a difference if I still have GB on my note? Thanks

I had this problem as well, easiest solution is to put the Note in USB Debugging mode, and it will connect with Windows 8 fine.
You can find USB Debugging mode in Settings -->Applications --> Development.

weird, I have a similar problem : I want to install CWM, but "adb devices" doesn't see any devices....I have "USB debugging" checked, I tried to install samsung drivers, Droid explorer, Kies won't install, and it is not recognizes as a device by Windows. Strange thing is, if I remember correctly, I successfully flashed a stock firmware using PC Odin. Any ideas ?

Windows 8 Desktop, ICS Note. Everything's working fine here. Haven't had to install anything on either end to get it to work.
I do have USB debugging enabled though, as suggested above.

i am having the same problem. at 1st win8 detects it and i always charge on it but lately i noticed it does not detect. i went to my home pc win 7 64bit which is detecting before but now i did not detect also. i did everything kies. driver of droid but still the same problem. Weird yet still it charges.

It worked a few times after that when I installed the google driver but now I have the same problem with both windows 7 ultimate 64bits and windows 8 release preview. It is charging but not detected. I also tried different cables with no progress. I sudpect it could be that one of the pins of the note connector is not OK. Can anyone help please

Samsung Captivate Driver Issues (64-bit Win7)

I used to be able to put my Captivate in USB debugging mode and enable usb storage and move files perfectly. Now that I think about it the last time I did this was before I upgraded the Captivate to Android 2.2. So, I think something happened after upgrading now when I plug my Captivate I get a driver error and it says Code 43. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, but don't think it helped I even tried installing from Kies Mini. I am not really sure what to do here. Any help would be greatly appreciated because I really need to transfer some files from Captivate to PC and vice versa asap.
Thanks,
Mo
You should be able to transfer files without drivers installed.

When I plug it in it says Driver Device Software was not successfully installed. and Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)
then USB Device not recognized pops up.
When I go to my computer there is nothing showing my device so how would I begin to transfer files via USB??
Sorry but am still somewhat new to driver issues and android
Not sure, sounds like your computer. Updating the rom won't cause usb errors.
Do you have wireless connection? If so, download FileZilla or some other ftp client to your computer. Then go to the market and download OnAir or some file server. Then you can use the wireless to ftp files back and forth.
That is until you figure out you computer usb troubles.
Yea I'm in the processs of transferring the files via bluetooth, but any advice or at least a place to start for fixing the usb problems. I honestly have had no problems since updating to 2.2 and cannot think of any changes I have made to the computer either
bump can anyone help?
I wish someone would step in here as I am having the exact problem - Win 7 - 64 Pro. All of a sudden the desktop PC has stopped recognizing the Samsung Captivate. It wasn't always this way and I cannot figure what may have changed on the desktop to cause this (except for MSFT updates of course).
win7
BUMP. I just used my home computer (windows xp) and reset my captivate, then rooted and flashed Andromeda. this is the first time i flashed a rom and everything, but everything went smoothly and I would like to try out other roms, but I am only home for 4 months out of the year
I USUALLY have my 64 bit Win 7 laptop, but it is still not recognizing my Captivate. I still cannot even mount it. If anyone can help it'd be greatly appreciated. I tried reinstalling captivate x64 drivers and tried samsung kies mini but no luck. can someone troubleshoot me or send me a step by step walkthrough. I am getting the same errors I have had earlier and like BillMc it wasn't always this way.
BUMP. I got the same issue and it is driving me nuts. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Open Device Manager, plug in your phone, and see what new devices pop up when you plug it in. Then uninstall all "devices" related to the Captivate.
Then unplug your phone and reinstall the captivate drivers pack. Then plug your phone back in and see if your computer sorts out the drivers correctly.
This fixed my issues. Try it.

Rooting without USB possible?

Hello guys,
I have now tried for the last 8 hours to connect my phone via USB to my computer without any success.
I have read many threads concerning this problem but by now I just assume that my USB port is partly broken as I have tried all the solutions and none worked for me.
I can still charge the phone but windows isn't even showing that a device has been connected. Twice of probably thirty times windows showed me that an unknown device has been connected for a couple of seconds and then the phone isn't connected anymore.
I would like to root my phone and would like to know if there is a possible way to do it. Some say it's possible (depending on the Firmware already installed), some say it isn't.
My i9000 phone has:
Firmware 2.2
Kernel 2.6.32.9
[email protected]#1
Build Number Froyo.XWJPA
I hope you guys can help me, I am getting desperate...
Try this : http://www.unlockroot.com/
Here is the drivers : http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x64.shtml
Hey guy,
did you install Kies on your Computer? Your PC need the latest USB Samsung drivers. Note that you couldn't install Samsung drivers for newer devices like the Galaxy 9000 on Windows 2000 or older. You also have to look for the right drivers for your system. Maybe you did install x86 driver on 64 bit system or x64 drivers on 32 bit system.
Driver solution:
Go to settings, system and look for the hardware manager or simply check the "windows brenchmark settings" (included in vista and win7).
Try to follow that instruction: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542633
Note:
If you have a working USB connection, you should search for flashing instructions because flashing is always on your own risk! It isn't hard to learn but you have to know which risks are there. Don't be scared by faults they can be undone (mostly).
Flashing:
First you should upgrade your phone to an early Gingerbread (3.2) build. Just search for "Gingerbread Stock Rom" or use "Darky's Resurrection" package. You'll find them here on XDA or in the world wide web
If you get trouble you'll get support here but first you should read about flashing and rooting.
best regards
As I told you I think that my USB port is damaged and hence I can't establish a usb connection to my phone.
I tried several drivers, Kies, different settings, simply everything which was already discussed.
My Galaxy will not even show up as an "unknown device" in my Windows 7 32bit (of course I used 32bit drivers).
Unlockroot requires me to connect the Galaxy via USB to the computer, so I can't use that.
Any other suggestions?
If your using a acer computer and you have never reinstalled window than it more than likely wont work. But you can google apps like z4root and universaland root i think thats what its called. Those apps i have rooted a few froyo devices with but z4 i have never seen work with the i9000 but try and see

[Q] Issues instaling drivers in USB debug mode (winxp), can anyone help?

This is partially a Windows support issue, but hopefully someone here has had a similar experience or at least got some good ideas how i can troubleshoot this...
When i plug my Note on my machine if i got USB debugging enabled, Windows starts installing the drivers, but then the device installation thingy freezes (i've tried both just letting it do it's thing automaticly and the add hardware thingy from the control panel, same results), i can't even start the add hardware thingy afterwards (it complains some hardware is still being installed and it can't install more than one at once), Windows won't shutdown afterwards; and if it is plugged with the computer off or remains plugged when rebooting Windows won't finish booting, even if i try to boot in safe mode (but if it isn't plugged while Windows loads the boot goes just fine).
The pc is running WinXP 32bits SP3 (in brazilian portuguese if that matters), and the Note still got the factory's Gingerbread UBKK3 (not rooted yet). Feel free to ask for any additional information you believe i can provide that could help you help me figure this out.
Any ideas how i can figure out what is going wrong here?
ps:before anyone suggests it, no, reformatting the PC is not somthing i'd be willing to consider at the moment; and unless there is no drivers avaiable for WinXP i definitly don't wanna downgrade to 7, much less Vista.
1. have u installed samsung kies. if not try it
or
2. Check this http://liamcrayden.blogspot.in/2012/03/galaxy-note-adb-drivers-without-samsung.html?m=1link

Kies is installed and works just fine; do i need to install that stuff from that blog? Can i even trust that site to not sneak malwares inside the drivers or the executable? (no offense intended, i'm just not used to installing thirdparty drivers from sites that don't appear that big)

If Kies is installed and up to date then you don't need any further drivers.
Might be worth un installing Kies and samsung usb drivers, reboot, download Kies again and install, reboot. Make sure you're connecting the phone in the rear (motherboard) usb ports and see how it works from there.
Is it just the phone that causes this issue, or other usb devices also?

I already tried uninstalling and reinstaling Kies as well as the "devices" that get installed when i plug the note; things still go screwy if i try plugging my Note with USB debugging mode activated.
Perhaps i'm not explaining this right. What i call "installing drivers" is what windows does when you plug a new device; i'm not talking about just having the files avaiable, but actually setting things up to use the device.
Btw, it seems Windows doesn't recognize the Note as the same device with and without the USB debug mode, it installs more than one of some of the "virtual" devices; i noticed it 'cause it installs a "Samsung Mobile USB Modem #2" after i try to plug the device both with the USB debug mode disabled, and with it enabled (had to do that trick to show unplugged devices to actually see both the plain USB Modem and the USB Modem #2 at the same time, but the fact there was a #2 being installed clued me it had another one it still counted as being present)
A small update: I might've found a lead on what is going on; according to Wikipedia
Noting that the latest (as of 2012/09/02) driver version Samsung Android ADB driver 2.9.503.726 is broken (blue screen), and once installed fails to recognise Samsung devices ('Manufacturer Hardware ID missing'). This is supplied as part of Kies.

I don't get BSOD's, but that is precisely the version of the ADB driver that gets installed for me.
Nope, that wasn't it
I tried the drivers from that blog, and even though they are a different version things still go bad if i plug the Note in USB debug mode

I can't say exactly what the problem is, but had you seen that Gingerbread has USB options in 3 different places in the Settings menus?
- Location and Security, Disable USB debugging mode;
- Applications , USB Debugging;
- Wireless and network, USB utilities, Connect storage to PC (button).
I found you have to play around with those to get the connection working properly. I also found it's not a good idea to try to use Kies and Samsung drivers together on one PC. There's quite a lot about these issues on this thread and links therefrom. Hope this helps.
i got an issue regarding Usb mode too @@
recently i upgrade Note to blackCNA v2.1 and i can't "turn on usb" neither "turn off usb". when i stick Note to the computer, it's showed as "portable media player".
i've tried installing and uninstalling then reinstalling everything, from Kies to samsung usb driver, then reboot, then do it in another laptops, but it doesn't work @@
what can i do to fix it now @@

Do i need to uninstall Kies, or just kill all Kies* processes before plugging it in? (i think i already tried both, i'm not gonna try again unnecessarily 'cause when it freezes the driver installation thingy, Windows won't shutdown (it freezes after a while before finishing the process) and i'm forced to go for the physical power switch; i already had some bad experiences with HDDs developing an increased amount of bad blocks during similar circumstances in the past so i don't feel quite comfortable having to cut the power before the OS says it is ok if i have a choice)
Whether you use Kies or Samsung drivers really depends on what you want to do with your device. Kies lets you synchronise your contacts, agenda, etc. with Outlook on your computer. On the other hand if you are going to work on your device's software (rooting, flashing, modifying, (de-)odexing or even just transferring files) then you're better off with Samsung drivers. See this post for a download link. If you read the posts around this one, you will see how Chasmodo stresses the importance of completely getting rid of Kies before installing the Samsung drivers.
I would recommend you completely clean your PC of all drivers, Kies or Samsung drivers (software and registry) with your Note completely disconnected from it. There should be no yellow-triangle devices or anything like that in your PC device list, and your PC should be rebooting normally again. Next install either Samsung drivers or Kies, depending on what you want to do, with the Note still not connected and only when they're comfortably installed and your PC is still working and rebooting properly, reconnect your Note and let the PC detect and finish the installation.
Kies in particular is quite temperamental so it may take a bit of playing around before everything is set up for a sync if that's what you want to do.

[Q] ADB Not Installing in Windows 8

Hey Gang!
Ok, Here's the problem, No matter which rom I run, I cannot get the ADB Drivers to load on windows 8 PRO. Used to run just fine on Win7 SP1, matter of fact it would install itself as soon as I plugged in the phone along with all the other Samsung usb drivers, now all i get is something called "Samsung File-CD Gadget USB Device" and it doesn't even install it as a phone. Any Ideas?
There have been issues from mobile driver to odin & now up to your post on win8. Donno what's the problem but it seems that what worked on win7 flawlessly for phones doesn't seem to be working equally well on win8. I haven't been able to find the solution too. Tough luck, use win7 itself. Can't help . Hope some one does...

Unable to connect nexus 6 to windows 8.1

Hi all,
yesterday i decided to go and root my nexus 6, but then i stumbled on a problem:
i connected my nexus 6 via USB to my windows 8 laptop, and it just said :
" the USB-device is not recognized
the last usb drive you connected has made a failure, and windows does not recognise your device annymore"
i tried the next couple of things, withoud succes:
- using other usb ports
- using other usb cables
- installing new drivers
- re installing drivers via devicemanager on windows (device comes up as unkown usb device with a yellow failure mark and code 43)
- checking if usb debugging was enabled (it was not, but didnt work enabled either)
- putting nexus 6 back to factory settings
- hooking it up to a linux machine (wich resulted in the pc not even recognizing a new device was connected)
i searched all over the web, but couldn' t find annything that worked.
i hope someone is able to help me fix this.
kind regards,
(ps. i' m sorry for my bad englisch, as it is not my naitive language)
To confirm, it doesn't connect on windows OR linux?
Is it same machine?
Tried different cables, ports etc?

thats right.
they are seperate machines, the windows is a laptop, the linux a pc.
i tried different cables as well as different ports
I just connected my N6 for the first time to a laptop running 8.1. All I installed was the Google USB driver and Windows took care of the rest.
If all else fails, upgrade to Windows 10.
just install Wug's nexus root kit
it has proper guidance and links to install right drivers
i do have the latest drivers on my pc...
and it' s not an option to upgrade to windows 10, sinds i'm using a laptop from work.
I will try the toolkit, but i don' t think drivers are the problem. either the usb drives are corruted (but than it should work on linux) or the nexus is....
edit:
the nexus 6 is not available in the toolkit...

Install the naked driver using the windows 8 instructions from my thread.
Nexus 6 general > sticky roll-up thread > adb and fastboot.
