Hi All
I tried to send a contact detail from my note (2.3.6 official rom with root and Franco kernel #6) and it turned the sms to mms?!
I could be wrong, but think that's normal?
Text message is purely text whereas contact is text, image, ringtone etc etc...

I do not think so, since I did not notice that during my using to HTC Sensation, but will try with some other devices tomorrow.
A VCF won't fit in the 160 character limit of an SMS, it'll always send it as an MMS with the .VCF as a binary attachment.

It there any thing can be done to change that limit?
I think that text capacity. Although newer phones allow you to input more characters, they're actually sending out multiple texts. If you've got an old phone and receive a long text it's broken into multiple texts.

If you send a vcard from an HTC phone, and import to another phone manifacturers device, you will often see something in the "Extras/notes" window saying "HTC:;data-bla/bla-yay/I'm a HTC phone/yayy." Basically there can be anything in a vcard, even weird code each brand reads differently. So I think you sometimes would get a freaking long sms message, hence the vcard needs to be one file, not reassembled from small parts.

Within the first few days i messaged someone using a accidental area code (426) Instead of 416.
and now i cannot figure out how to change it back.
Every time i receive a message from said person, it sets my reply path to 426.
So I receive messages in one thread but have to reply in another.
I've also installed handcent
From what i can tell, its not saved on my sim or contacts.
I'm so lost
Please help.
Edit:

login to your gmail account update the user phone number in your gmail account

if you have a duplicated contact in phone and gmail, merge them

Like its a problem I have with messaging

Hi, yesterday I added a new contact into my Nexus. When I went to text the contact later on, the message failed to send. I noticed that I had entered the contact number incorrectly (had an extra 0 at the front) and corrected my mistake. The thing is now, whenever I receive a message from that contact, and reply, it tries to reply to the incorrect number I originally entered, even though there is no reference to it. I have to keep deleting the thread on Handcent, and starting a new one, but it still always messes up when I have to reply to a text.
Anyone know why this is? I tried to delete the contact from the phone, and I get this message: "This contact contains information from multiple accounts. Information from read only accounts will be hidden in your contacts lists, not deleted"
If it's of any help I have nexus one with cyanogenmod 6.0 installed and use handcent and have whatsapp installed as well (not sure if ths makes any difference)
Bump, incase anyone missed it.
Have looked at the contact info via your web Gmail?
When you go to edit your contact, keep scrolling down. Android as an annoying way a merging multiple contacts if they have the same name...

Did that too, as well as contact storage and contacts. It has to be being cached somewhere, but I don't know where.
Hi guys.
When I send long text messages, say 3x160 characters, it send the text as a multimedia message. This is highly annoying as I have unlimited texts on my tariff and I get charged for multimedia messages as its not included in my contract. Is there any way to solve with the default Galaxy S application?
Not too fond of Handscent and I just want something simple that works and I dont care too much for all the bangs and whistles of the Handscent app/alternatives.
Change rom dude, developers have noticed this and have hacked the mms app to allow users to have an unlimited amount of SMS pages without it automatically converting to mms, that's all I can advise bud, change rom

Is it possible to just replace the app with the modified version? I'm currently on stock odexed 2.3.4 (jvq)
I am using Stock GB version 20G... My Messaging App is showing "1" home screen but there are no texts. I have tired.. Battery pull, trying another sim card, deleted Messages data...
I can't think of anything else to try and don't want to do a hardware reset...
Any ideas???.
I had the same problem and solved by deleting the sms database.
You have to delete /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db
That's the SMS database file. After that, reboot your phone and try to receive a SMS to regenerate the file.
You can backup that file just in case.
Cheers!

When ever iv had that problem I just waited for another message and it cleared the 1 away.
Still got it showing 1 on the homescreen Messaging app. Deleted all android data on internal sd & external sd. Been texting off/on since it happened Friday. Just trying to ignore it but am sure it will delete itself after a couple of weeks lol (I hope).
U could try flash a new ROM if u want. Lol
For me, deleting the file with Root Explorer did the trick.

Just thought I would mention that its strangely sorted it self lol. As it was New Years, sent loads of texts and let them build up and it was showing 23 on Messaging App. Left them for a while and then started to read each one.
For some reason, this then refreshed the amount of messages and its not showing any texts unread now . Seems yet another bug with the O2X?.

If you are using an alternative messaging app, then you need to disable the notifications from the stock messaging app. Otherwise it will always be showing that there are unread messages.

Try and send yourself loads of texts and let them build up.. Then click on them one by one. That's what sorted mine, but got 23 texts from.different people on New Years Eve lol.
New galaxy note owner here, I noticed while sending a text in the stock messaging app it has "Me:" on every message I send. It also has the contact's name to each incoming message. Is there any way to take this off?
