OK as I can not post in development section I am posting here. I just downloaded cm_shakira-001x.zip file and tried to install it, while installation it say "E:Can't open /sdcard/cm_shakira-001x.zip (bad) installation aborted"
Is this with me only or anyone else has the same problem???

Ok I been at this all day, I rooted my phone and read the guides all over the web, but no matter what I do I cant get the Rom to load. I dont want to be stuck using RC 29. Every time I try the update.zip I get
finding update package...
opening update package...
E: cant open /sdcard/update.zip
(no such file or directory)
Installation aborted
Press home+back to reboot
I dont get it, what am I doing wrong? I really didnt want to start a noob thread but Im stuck here. I tried 3 different roms but they all do the same thing. I really want to use Cyanogen with the dark theme.

Make sure your settings on your PC aren't such that you are inadvertently naming the files update.zip.zip. In some instances, Windows will append the file name automatically. To check if this is the case, go into My Computer>Tools>Folder Options and see if "hide extensions for known folders" is checked or unchecked. If its checked, then you need only to rename the file to update and windows will automatically put the zip on it. Have you installed Cyanogen's 1.4 recovery image? This will allow you to not have to worry about this problem as it lets you flash any image with a .zip extension.

Glad to help! I still stand by my original recommendation of installing Cyanogen's latest recovery image (1.4 currently) if you haven't done so already.
If you check back on this thread, can you please edit the title to say [SOLVED] so everyone knows that the problem has been handled?
The same thing keeps happening when I attempt to flash a ROM to my Nexus. I've tried several ROMs from this forum. Here's what I'm seeing:
Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:Can't open /sdcard/update-cm-5.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted.
I've also attempted restoring to a nand backup and got a similar message about being unable to access the sd card.
What am I doing wrong?

Thanks. Oh so helpful.
How about a link to the right place then?
Q&A.Mods please move to appropriate section. Make sure the zip file is in the root of sdcard.Unplug from computer if you are.Flash the zip file from Anon-Ra recovery. If still doesn't work, try downloading the Rom from another mirror.
Re-flash your recovery image and reformat your card

Go into the program you are using to browse to the APK, find the file you are installing then scroll down a bit. You'll see the actual apk and not the one with -. at the beginning of it. (I did the same thing lol)

sorry- I don't know what you're talking about...
I downloaded the apk- copied it to my sdcard and tried to install... parsing error...
I copied it to system/app and changed permissions, did reboot- nothing
I tried to install the apk with root explorer at system app- parsing error...
So please- where do I have to scroll down and find a second apk without -at the beginning...?

You need to select the one with no "-" on it, there may be two copies on your sd card Scroll down further in the list of your file manager, there may be the same file (this one) listed again.

is the xxx zip file ??
try to install it with cwm recovery, not xRecovery
Thanks for help, but still nothing.. The same error with CWM... Yes, it's a zip files
Do the zip files have spaces in their names? If so, remove all spaces.
Another thought is that the files get corrupted when downloading. Maybe there's a problem with your internet connection or PC
I doubt it, though.
What rom are you trying to install?
Sent from my X8 using xda premium
1.My PC is okay
2.It hasn't got any spaces in it's name
3.I've tried so many ROMs like gingerbread and froyobread.
On my last X8 it worked well, but here..
Are you install cwm manually? If yes try do it with x8toolbox
Sent from my X8 using xda premium
Still the same...
Repair your phone with PC compaion then install CWM recovery put Prime HD for stock kernel on sdcard
if this does not help then try to unlock bootloader
Doesn't work, still the same...

Same problem with diferents custom roms, solved CHANGING SD for me(8G one for 4G, i don't know if SD's size was the problem)
Dude, check in the zip file and see if it is really a ROM. If it has two folders, one called "META-INF" and "system" it's a rom, else it could have a "date named folder" so it's a backup file (like in Matej's rom/eclair), you must extract it to the clockworkmod folder. Or even to give the installation aborted, it maybe means that the meta-inf ins't installing the rom or the system files is corrupted, try to download the rom again, but if it's your own rom, try to recompile it, if made with Winrar use mode "store" and set as .zip.
If nothing work, try this:
1- Format SD Card;
2- Save the rom in the SD Card again;
3- Reflash Kernel and Recovery
4- Try to install rom again.
Or even try to install clockwork, if you're using x-recovery...

Well, this is interesting. Can you tell me the model of the 8GB one? Can you test both of them with CrystalDiskMark or something and post the speeds here?

Size isn't the problem, I think, because my SD is 8gb with 2gb as ext and works very well with both x-rec and cwm...
