[Q] mobile webpages - TouchPad Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

does anyone know how to stop a website from going into mobile view on chrome??
specifically.. I can't get onto NBA.com without it redirecting me to the worthless mobile version and no way to the full site

Lots of folks complaining on Google web site for this so I guess there is no fix yet to change the User Agent string - http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Chrome/thread?tid=44f2824b607e6c31&hl=en

Not that I know of, I'm not sure why Google felt the need to put a mobile user agent on a port of a desktop browser. It needs a toggle user agent option so bad, until then I will have to use other browsers.

Opera question..

Hey guys I live in california and have a Union bank of California account and I want to do online banking with Opera but it seems to not allow me to get to my next screen when I type my user name... the site is www.uboc.com is it because it doesn't use java? I can get on my WAMU account.. any fixes for this? Thanks
Well, it will be hard to find any fixes specific yo your bank homepage unless you provide your login details, so, that we can check the requirements for your bank access.
I do remember that my BoA was not accessable from any of my mobile handsets, even though they were listed as 'compatible'. My bank just did not allow my handsets to access the page for security reasons. It took me over 1 week to get their web developer department convinced that "MOBILE BANKING" does not make sense without actually allowing mobile devices to access it ... !
The symptoms were the same as you described above, just nothing happened when I tried to log in - in some rare cases I was bounced back to the mobile banking homepage again ...

Yeah, some banks websites wont let you login from a mobile phone due to "security reasons". Try the Skyfire beta though, as it let me login to my banks website when Opera and IE failed.

I have Skyfire beta which is an awesome browswer to watch porn I mean youtube haha j/p... but I read reviews and comments saying not to browse with skyfire because its beta and it can be viewed by people first... will Opera ever support java and be like skyfire later down the road?
I thought Opera had a feature that allows you to either have web pages you view; receive you as a PC, or as a mobile. But I can't find that option. Am I thinking about a different browser, or am I missing something.
Next, I would use Opera more, but it has the "auto" clear-type enabled, and that doesn't allow some of my web page data to be viewed. So, I use IE instead because I can disable the clear-type for IE in the Advance Config program.
Any ideas about these two issues. I would REALLY like to use Opera exclusively. I'm told that Skyfire is not safe, as they record your passwords and usernames for bank accounts, etc.

How to Turn Off Mobile Version of Website

Is there a way to make it so the browser default browser shows the desktop version of the website by default? I hate going to web pages pages and it's the mobile version.
You could use the about:debug method, but I don't think that's permanent. I just use Dolphin HD browser and set it to desktop since I like it better than the stock browser anyways.
If your default homepage is Google, the setting is at the bottom of the page.

I'm pretty sure that is only for Google.com and not for any other pages.
this is my old gripe about the default web browser is the constatn mobile website crap, personally i think all mobile websites should be disbanded, no one even uses them.
Yeah, I'm using the about:debug method. I wish I would be permanent.
I completely agree with disbanding all of the mobile websites. They are just annoying and it's not always easy to find the link to switch to the desktop page.
someone needs to find a way to make the default browser (i like the default browser) able to permanently go full site, without rooting.
I know that this not exactly what you want, but Dolphin Browser HD has that option, to always go to the desktop version of a website.
That does not help for the default browser, of course, but maybe something to consider, if you didn't know about that option?
Cheers

How to mask or disable uaprof? to stop redirecting to mobile site

Is it possible to mask or disable uaprof for galaxy s? I always redirected to mobile site even though i have changed the user agent to desktop with dolphin hd. upon checking this problem, i discovered that the full header the phone sends contain http x wap profile on the last line which indicate i am using my phone. i used this site to to get the header
http://whatsmyuseragent.com/
I think this is reason why i always redirected to mobile site even though i have changed the user agent
anyone has any idea how i can to get this line removed from the header? or perhaps a workaround?
i am using froyo by the way
Thanks
My relative has the same issue with his droid x, but I don't have the same issue with my htc incredible or my old htc eris/hero. Odd anyone know how to fix this issue please?
Setup:useragent in stock browser with froyo. Keep the phone standing or you won't be able to change it.

[Q] User Agent Issue

I've noticed that when I use any browser other than stock, mobile web pages will not show on my NookColor. Has anyone else noticed this and if so, is there a way to fix it?
I have double checked in the settings to make sure that the user agent was correctly selected. Check out the attached screenshots to see what I mean.

Have you updated to 1.0.1 from B&N?
Yes, before AutoNooter.
Have you tried the "More Options" choice after tapping the rightmost (menu) button that is next to the address bar in the stock browser? It lets you select the user agent. Is that what you're looking for?
Let me clarify, I want to Use Dolphin HD, but mobile webpages don't show when using the app. They also don't work for Firefox, Miren or XScope. The user agent for each was set to android in each app.
The stock NookColor browser shows these pages just fine, but is particularly slow.
Do mobile webpages automagically show when you browse in a Non-Nook browser? If they work fine for others, I will just reset my Nook and start the root process over. But I don't want to do all of that if it's just normal behavior.
Same issue here on Dolphin HD. No matter what I do (clear data, change user agents, restart browser) it always displays the web page in "Desktop" format.
On a side note- Yesterday I had success watching html5 videos off Dailymotion, but today none of the videos work for me. Tried using the same video players and added a new one. Same result, can't play video. Does this happen to anyone else?
Looks like Firefox with the "Phony" Add-on works right.
I've had a lot of success making Dolphin use the iPad user agent.
There's a market app called User Agent Switcher. You call it up via Share Page in your browser. It worked fine for me in Dolphin.
using Ipad agent

is there something special you had to do to get this to work (other than change the default UA in Dolphin HD settings)? Is Dolphin set as your default browser? When I change to Ipad UA it still uses desktop (same with Android and Iphone).

I think it probably IS working (you can go to a site that lists your user agent to know for sure) . . . iPads display most pages in desktop versions (and why not, with a huge screen).
I tested it, and, at least for me, they all work in Dolphin except for Android (ironically) - which, strangely, reads as a Mac. The iPhone user agent will give you mobile views.
You can test by going to http://whatsmyuseragent.com
Thanks wvcachi. Earlier today I went to the market and saw the app User Agent Switcher but now it seems to be gone. Could you please post the APK?

pm'd
(free app, but since it's removed from market, not sure if that means it's warez) ... Wonder why it was removed?
Getting same thing. A typical android user agent should look like this (from my Evo):
Code:
Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.2; en-us; PC36100 Build/FRF91) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1
Instead, I get this, no matter which agent I select in Dolphin HD:
Code:
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_5_7; en-us; AppleWebKit/530.17 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/530.17
Could it be something in Dolphin that is 'Froyo-only' compatible? A bug in the older webkit? Maybe I'll try the Dolphin mini and see if that works any different.
[edit]
Dolphin mini shows Mac as well.

I was on 1.0.0.. Now that I've upgraded I seem to have this issue as well.

I'm on 1.0 as well, and I'm able to change to all except for android.
I think it might be a 1.0.1 issue. User agent was working properly for me with 1.0 and Dolphin HD, but after I upgraded it no longer works.
can someone send me the apk for the user agent switcher??
i was trying to access the ipad version of gmail, but i cannot change the user agent on most of the browsers, most of them (dolphin HD and mini, miren), as a previous post said, always show this one
Code:
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_5_7; en-us; AppleWebKit/530.17 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/530.17
no matter what i chose in the UA selection options
in opera mobile i was able to change it to the ipad specific UA, and it worked, but opera cant handle this specific gmail page.
i was trying to find that program "User Agent Switcher" but i cannot find it, could someone share it? (since it is free, i guess it wont be a problem)

Anyway to browse android specific sites on your PC

Outside of just going to the mobile web address. Is there a way that you can set a PC browser to disguise its self as a mobile android browser?
Similar function how the xoom can be set to disguise its self as an Ipad, Iphone, desktop for android phone.
Reason I'm asking is I have a membership on one website that only lets me log on, with my android device and not my PC.
Sorry if this thread is in the wrong spot... I'm not sure where to post this.
