Hi,
I have an ad entitled "Exciting Game King Pirate". The ad looks like a sms, with the sms icon and appearing as a notification. I want to identify the app who created this ad but I couldn't. I killed every app with some task killer but the ad is still here. Doing busybox ps -e gives me lots of entries. What to do?
Why don't you use adblock?
Sent from my Optimus 2X
Sorry, my message was unclear, I edited it. I am using an ad blocker but it is an different type of ad.
My god... what an awful kind of spam/virus/malware! If you do find where it comes from please let us know!

Install "Addons Detector" from Google Play. It can detect which apps serve ads in the notification bar.
I recently installed Download Manager, and it seems to be responsible of my Push Notifications ads, like yours...
I used the app recommended just above, found it in 15 sec.
is a game from letang developer. try to unistall the game or go to google play and search letang . you will see the list of games of this developer you have installed. then and unistall it. hope this fix
Oh thank you, indeed it was the game "raiden sky force ace" I think. (The addon detector didn't find the push notification.)
Thanx so much for this. Notifications were pissing me off and wasn't able to track em down until this thread.

Thank you .. for me it was "TANK" from LeTang .. what a bunch of bastards. Making the icon look a lot like the 'SMS' icon was particularly evil. Must remember to avoid them in future.
Thanks!

Thanks!!! That did it for me!! Mine was Tank. It wasn't even that good of a game!
Mission Impossible - LeTang
Same Issue - Green SMS Icon in the notification bar about the pirates game.
The AddOn Detector didn't catch the app - but after a quick search for LeTang I found Mission Impossible Free installed. A quick uninstall, and the ad disappeared.
Irritating to put it mildly.
Thanks for the info guys.

Hi I guys, I searched the forums and Google and didn't find anything.
On my notification bar there is occasionally a white star with a red dot. It's always some kind of spam today it was "Free College Degrees"
I deleted any of the apps I had installed in the last week (since I had noticed the star). The white star and red dot has come back.
Does anyone know of an app that does that? All the running services seem pretty legit to me. Can someone tell me how to isolate it? I would prefer not to have to reflash..
I'm running Cognition 3.04.
Thanks,

Have you tried dl security software to check for malware?

Hi,
I have the same problem but I think I've found the App or one App that initiates this messages.
On my Milestone I'm using APNDroid which is using Airpush Ads since the lat Update.
I used aLogCat to search for the App that starts this "Browser" with the Ads and there I noticed the entries of apndroid and airpush.
Hopefully this information is useful for you.

I installed and uninstalled the Mirin browser recently, would it have left some remnants behind?
I installed alogcat and did a filter with "Browser" which came up with maybe 10-15 entries of
Code:
V/WindowManager (2970): Dsptch > Window{48688688 com.android.vending/com.android.vending.AssetBrowserActivitypaused=false}
Can that be what you mean? I apologize, but you could provide some more detail?

if you've deleted all installed apps you could just back up important datas/pics and do a factory reset it will bring you back to like a clean new install rom clearing the remnants that's bugging you.
Got it, put the "Program Monitor" widget on a screen and opened it. Only 2 apps running: messenger and Brain Age Test 2. I guess it came in on a Brain Age Test update.
Is it odd that Brain Age didn't show up in settings --> applications --> running services?
APNdroid
In my case it's APNdroid Free that is causing the notification. When I click on the notification, the first thing I see is "APNdroid" at the top of the browser. So I tried checking the app on the Market, but developer Martin Adamek temporarily removed the app:
"Ad-supported version of APNdroid is not available at the time, as I need to reconsider to include notification ads. Based on the user feedback, I guess this was bad idea and I need to think what's next for free version."
Star in Notification Bar
Hello,
I used AirPush detector and it found the application that was causing my HTC EVO4g to get this star with the red dot in my notification bar to show up. As a matter of fact, the star was currently in my notification bar when I uninstalled the app. which was Ice Cream Sandwich wallpaper and the star immediately disappeared. Hope this helps someone...
Airpush ads are evil. I used an app called Addons Detector and it found the culprit (it was a game called Dungeon TD). I won't tolerate ads in my notification bar.
Thanks for the Airpush detector recommendation. I searched google and this thread came up. Found I had a Steve Jobs app that was sending me ads in my notification bar.
Another culprit
GO SMS Theme Pink Bubble is the one my girl was getting hers on.
Thanks! Add-ons detector worked like a charm. The Airpush detector didn't do it for me.
Hi!
Early times, when FroYo was on our devices there was a way to browse your paid apps on your Android Market. Name have change and now this Play market do not support it. Even this very new version, what we got.
Am I so stupid that I cannot find my way to search or browse my already paid apps or how you solve this? There would be a opportunity for 3rd part application for this. And best place to give hint is just here, on XDA Developers forum.
Or just give me a link to this app(s), what you have already found.
Uh, I came fast back to write more info. There seems to huge threads about asking lost or missing paid apps when installed a custom ROM. No no, this is not my problem. I can see my paid apps, but there is no search button or value/ string on the list what Google Android Play market order.
Isnt that just:
Open play store > Press menu button > My apps?
Google Android Play market | search for paid apps?!

In my case it shows just the apps, what I have installed to my phone.
I am looking a way how to search my paid apps on Google Play market. Or an app, what can do the same.
If you mean above PC browser case, then I get huge numbers of apps. First are apps currently installed on my phone. It means the Android OS or firmware version what I am currently using. Below - early firmwares - is the list of all apps what I have tryed, uninstalled etc. and the list is so huge that in my case it could show only start from A to letter E only. So, if my paid app start with letter F - Z, I cannot see anymore it. And browsing between A to E is terrible story too.
If Google Play market have similar value like File Managers have: name, day, type, size etc. it could easy to find your paid apps. Or a search manager or similar.
The Play Market is just crap when it comes to things like this. Several major tech sites have commented upon it, but Google seems to have no intention whatsoever to fix it.

Now, swipe screen left.
In Gmail usually they will send the Google Play receipt #s of all the purchases you made.

I think you do not know what you are about talking. Your guide just show what apps you have installed on your phone: freeware, shareware, n day trial and PAID apps. I am talking PAID apps. And the only place you can find them is here: https://wallet.google.com/manage/#transactions
Try first and reply after if you don't believe me.

Are you running adfree or another ad-blocker?
I'd look at the Play Store for the apps you've installed. Look at the one-star reviews and see who *****ing about ads in the app.

You won't find one in the Play Store; Google did a "house cleaning" and pulled all of the ad blockers.
I'd recommend adfree at:
http://adfree.bigtincan.com/index.php
You'll have to manually install it, copying it to /system/apps, and ensure the permissions are set to 644 (rw, r, r).

i just tried two ad detectors(appbrain ad detector and trustgo ad detector) but they couldn't find any..
i'll look into your adfree app, thanks!
This annoying ads come from apps downloaded from untrusted sites or cracked apps, most of them are adware who pretend to offers you free apps when it really are virus.
Sorry if this is noob questions, but all the time on my phone, google play will open up to a random game/app while I'm doing other things. Specific examples:
When I'm using talk to text-- the microphone will grab half of what I'm saying, freeze, and then switch to google play with "uber" up or something.
When I'm typing a text message, google play will pop up.
When i wake up the the morning, and go to turn off the alarm, there is an ad in the way, and I have to press home, open clock to turn off the alarm.
These are the three most common instances where the ads come up, and it's just super annoying. Does anyone have any suggestions to get this to stop?
Thanks in advance!!
Must be an app you installed recently. Try checking Google Play reviews of apps you have on your phone (look for reviews with similar complaints).

As said above it's probably an app . I had a similar problem long back . It's usually from an ad supported app that runs in the background (eg: Applocker or equivalent, photo hiding app , another telephony app like full screen caller HD or something) .So check which apps are running in the background before you start un-installing :good:
surely an app....
If you're a normal user, you need to revisit you Installed Apps and find out! (some app which has lot of Permissions is doing this, ignore them in future)
If you have root, AdAway would be handy.
If you have root+Xposed, MinMinGuard will do the job.
It's surely an app. Try installing this, will tell you which app are pushing ads to your phone, then you can uninstall them.

I wanted to know if you guys know any apks for malware or antivirus. I have been getting a lot of pop ups. I installed kapersky and malware bytes but they both do anything.
pop ups when browsing and or apps? Most likely you'll need ad blocking software and or browser extension.

It seems to be ad pop ups. I would be using an app such as whatsapp or watching a video through my gallery and the add just pops up out nowhere. it has never done that before.
If you get apps from places that are not "trusted sources" many of them have these pop up ads.
Go through and we which apps have Device Admin, Accessibility, and Draw Over Other Apps permissions
Are you using stock Gallery or another app?

Personally, I do not use any antivirus on my phone. I tried some of them before but finally gave up due to the large consumption to the phone memory which results into a slowdown of system and a faster drain of power. Plus, the major drawbacks of these free AV, like Avira, Kapersky, Bitdefender and more in Top 5 Free Antivirus in 2018, are the ads and popups bundled with them. They keep sending annoying ads and pop-ups during running, and even worse, sometimes they downloaded and installed things automatically.
Thus, if you download apps from playstore, surf the safe websites and connect to a clean outside device, do not bother to install a AV on your phone.

so l read this thread awhile back and thought nothing of it ............ until now!
I have "developed" the same Issue! and yes Its definitely an app that has access to "appear on top" and its under Apps> special Access> apps that can appear on top! Now for me to identify the culprit......? only issue though is if you have this issue your most likely the kind of user who experiments and installs several apps at once.... so here goes my trial by elimination process?
Hi had this problem.
I deleted the free APK that I had installed but I was still getting pop ups.
You need to go to settings / apps and right at the end of the list there was a app with no name or app logo.
Deleted it, problem solved.
I tried virus scan apps and nothing found it.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the advice! I deleted all the apps I installed in the past week and still no success until your post! Issue was starting to really bug me cos I kinda hate the idea that I dont have control over a device I paid for....lol
For anyone in the same position, see attached images if it helps and yes I installed a dodgy APK editor which i deleted but didn't notice this culprit App in the app list!

Yeah that's exactly what I saw on my list.
No AV will block an ad. They block known, to them, malware apks. Use something like Addons Detector from G Play store and/or Nice catch from S Galaxy store to list all the apks that have ads modules and then remove those you installed last or don't recognise or need.
Run Malwarebytes.
