Can we use the GalaxyS2 ICS camera driver - TouchPad Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Wondering if we can now use the Galaxy S2 ICS camera driver on our touchpad. Since both of the devices use the same APQ8060 chipset and ICS just came out for SGS2 today. Anyone?

The international GS2 uses the Exynos chipset. I believe only the T-Mobile GS2 uses that chipset.

I know SGH-T989 and LTE uses that chipset, hopefully they will receive the ICS update soon

My guess is the sensation/EVO 3d is closest hardware wise and the sensation just got ICS I think, 3D should soon

[Q] Question about wi-fi only galaxy tab

Can I install any ROM on the wi-fi only Galaxy Tab? or do I need to use a particular ROM for it?
Wifi-only Tab (P1010) is a completely different beast from 3G (P1000 CDMA or GSM) Tabs.
It has different CPU (Texas Instruments OMAP) and other hardware and no 3G ROM will work on it. It requires different kernel and I am not even sure whether partition layout is the same. All it shares with P1000 is form factor and name.
@technomancer. Dude, im from philippines and im using a galaxy tab gt-p1000 korea. Can i change it to gingebread 2.3?
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
Well that really sux. So unless devs pick up the wifi model its not going to look so great in terms of rooting and development. I will hold back and see what happens first.
Being a complete noob to all of this I'm confused about the hardware differences between the wifi Tab and the phone Tabs. The PDAnet database lists the wifi with a Samsung-Intrinsity S5PC110 CPU which is apparently identical to a bunch of other Tab phones (ie. Verizon Samsung SCH-i800 Galaxy Tab 7.0, NTT DoCoMo Galaxy Tab 7.0 SC-01C). Is the database wrong, or is there something about CPU manufacturing I don't understand?
Again, I'm just askin' cause I'm completely new to all of this stuff. After one week I really love my brand new wifi Tab, but I can see how I might like to play around with it after awhile. Hopefully you guys won't have to start from scratch for wifi development?

[Q] GLONASS Support Galaxy S?

Hey guys!
Seems the Snapdragon SoC in the Samsung Galaxy S supports GLONASS. Source: http://www.smartphoneclub.nl/nieuws/snapdragon-processor-ondersteunt-glonass-satellieten/ (dutch)
Anyone know how to turn it on?
Galaxy S+ has the snapdragon SoC. Galaxy S has Hummingbird SoC.
Galaxy S uses afaik BCM4751 chip which doesn't support GLONASS. Newer version of this chip does - the BCM47511, which is used in Galaxy Note. See http://www.broadcom.com/press/release.php?id=s624273
It's pin-compatible with the old chip so some hardcore modder could swap it ;-))))

Hi,
Do you know if the i9001 support the GLONASS GPS sats?
How can I determine the gps chip that is being used in the i9001 ?
Thanks for the info!

[Q] Thinking of leaving verizon for the ATT gnote but I have some qs...

I want to get the note with ATT after I leave verizon (no point in staying if I can't keep unlimited when I upgrade). I want to know that if I install roms for the I7000 or whatever (international version, right?) will I run into any problems? Is there any differentiation between the att version of the note and the international one? And if so, how can I weed out the development for the att note?
Also curious, if I can install international roms on the ATT version, will I retain my lte?
Different phones. Use the AT&T Note thread for information.

Different hardware entirely. Either buy the ATT note and checkout the ATT note forum, or do what I did and buy the international note (unlocked) and use on AT&T network (in which case this is the correct forum). But you can't mix.

That's exactly what I did. I have the unlocked GT-N7000 (this forum model) on the ATT network. But yeah, totally different phones.

I have been doing a ton of research on the Note, so this is one of the few questions I can answer here. Not all of them...but most. Since I am still new here I am unable to add links.
The Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 (International) has a a dual-core 1.4 GHz Exynos processor. Externally, it has a physical "home" button and two touch-sensitive buttons. It also has a built in radio.
The Samsung Galaxy Note SGH-I717 (US & Canada) has a Qualcomm MSM8660 Snapdragon with a dual-core 1.5 GHz Scorpion CPU and an Adreno 220 GPU. It has four touch-sensitive buttons instead of two. It can do LTE.
Looking at that you might think that the I717 is just better all around. This -apparently - is incorrect. In the bench marked tests I saw with a Galaxy Note with Exynos VS. the Galaxy Note with Snapdragon, the Exynos based one beat Snapdragon performance wise.
Galaxy Note with Exynos
GLBenchmark 2.1 Egypt High: 2827 Frames (25.0 Fps)
GLBenchmark 2.1 Egypt Standard: 3012 Frames (26.7 Fps)
Galaxy Note with Snapdragon
GLBenchmark 2.1 Egypt High : 1014 Frames (9.0 Fps)
GLBenchmark 2.1 Egypt Standard : 2425 Frames (21.5 Fps)
The site I found this from is called "Galaxy Tabs" from a a Feb 6, 2012 post.
Which leaves the question - Why would Samsung use a less hefty chip in the US & Canada version. The reason I have found is that the Exynos processor can't do LTE. Then again - weather all this is good or not depend on preferences and pattern of use.
------------------
So there you have it. I should mention though that (I presume) you did a terrible job searching. Not only did I find a post here from 28th February 2012 Called i717 vs GT N7000, but I also found alot of information from -wait for it- Wikipedia. Just FYI.
On the upside though - most of the stuff I mentioned I did from memory.
YAY research!
The att i717 has lte. If u using internet alot and your area has lte. Its better to use the att gnote. U can always overclock tge i717gnote to make tge clock faster.. After overclock there's no lag issues and it runs super smooth. But if u want more custom roms abd faster offical update. Buy the international gnote. Either way u cant go wrong. I chose attgnote cos tge lte and i overclock my note. It runs super smooth and super fast downloads cos tge lte!!

[Q] Galaxy Note N7000 or I717

I am getting a Note I now
I am getting confused with mixed reviews of N7000 and I717
Hardware seems good with N717(N.America ATT Version) but there seems lack of software dev on it!
I dont need LTE at all!
Can someone suggest which one to go with?
I already own a iPhone i am just getting note for an productivity!
If you need the device NOW.. Why don't you get a note II (there's a note II per carrier in USA) if you are not from USA get the N7100.. If you can't afford note II and you are from USA and your carrier it's AT&T get the I717, but anything else just get the N7000 because it has better hardware..
Price difference between note I and note II its not much.. Check on Amazon
Cheers

It comes with 1.5Ghz Snapdragon
I am not from USA anyhow i will be buying it from US in next month so only! Its easy to get unlocked
I dont like to spend too much on it since i will be switching off phones mostly an year!
My main reason for productivity that a lot i cant do with my iPhone. I am using my iPhone for multimedia so i need a android one for productivity! That's why i choose a Note

Snapdragon 800 a bit long in the tooth by now.

I was quite surprised to learn that the Tab S series of tablets ships with the aging Snapdragon 800. I find it's a bit out of place on a tablet where all other specs are top notch. The reviews I read specifically say the tabet can be sluggish at times when more CPU power is required.
I guess I hold out on my upgrade a bit longer then...

Only the LTE versions come with the Snapdragon 800. Wi-fi gets the Exynos 5420.
how is the 5420 ?
I'm kind of disappointed the UK versions have the 5420 - I find my Snapdragon 800 in my Note 3 phone super quick
is the 5420 just as snappy ? Looks such a good screen on the 8.4 and 10.5 Tab S

Reviewers are saying the 5420 wi-fi versions are noticeably faster than the 800 in the LTE. I believe benchmarks show the same.
The 5420 is amazing. Uses all 8 cores at the same time if needed now. They fixed the memory dump issue found in the previous iteration as well.
The only thing I'm bummed about, is the 5433 ( coming out soon)destroys Snapdragon's 805 SoC .... In benchmarks. I wish that processor was in the new Samsung flagship device. Ugh.
According to all the reviews I have read the opposite is true and they are recommending the processor in
the LTE version as the faster of the two.
I have to run to work but quick google search..Engadget ( which I hate) has this to say..
"If it's any consolation, the as-yet-unreleased LTE models are supposed to use a Snapdragon 800 chip instead of the Exynos 5, so maybe performance will be snappier there."
Snapdragon seems to get the most development too.

Anandtech clearly said Samsung made a poor choice with Exynos. They should have gone 801 or 805.
oh well - and 16gb too for UK version - grrrr
still prob going to get one though
maybe it will handle streaming video better than the Snapdragon (well the implementation of it on the Note 3) - after lots of updates, I still can't get smooth streamed video on my Note 3 - youtube, netflix, Sky, Iplayer etc - yet download to phone first (latter 2) - or play local content and smooth as silk
There probably won't be a 32gb version. Samsung said there'd be a 32gb 8.4 pro and there never was.
I can confirm there are LTE versions with Exynos processor, at least mine is so, bought in Spain (10.5"). I could change it for a snapdragon version though, but I'm not sure if it is worth it.

Thanks for your confirmation arbiskar.
It was rumoured the Tab S would be 5420 for WiFi, and 5420 + Intel LTE Modem for LTE models, that seems to coincide with the reports such as yours, that the LTE models is Exynos based only.
I doubt that Snapdragon based LTE models of the Tab S exist, if the LTE model you purchased is 5420, I'm going to assume they all will be...
Model numbers other than the T700, T705, T800 and T805 would need to exist for Snapdragon variants, so I don't believe we will see Qualcomm chips in any of the Tab S models.
Thanks.
Hi,
I ordered a LTE Tab S, in germany it will release on friday the 11 July. Before I ordered I thought all versions will have the Exynos 5 Octa and perhaps an optional LTE Modem. After my order I saw that the LTE version will be a QSD 800
Now you say thete will be LTE and Octa. Is it real? Do you know what version Samsung will sell in germay? I think I have to wait a few weeks before I get my tab S because I bought it with a LTE Contract and the Provider cant give me an info when they get the hardware from Samsung.
Now I don`t know if I should cancel the order and buy me a wifi version because the octa is better or will the QSD 800 ok too?

The sd800 is slightly better than the octacore, so I wouldn't worry.

Apparently, some people here have the LTE version with Exynos, so I'm not so sure.
They announced a new Exynos processor with LTE integrated for future products, but that doesn't mean there isn't a LTE chip in addition to the Exynos SOC in the Tab S LTE versions.
It would be nice if someone could confirm.
I'm also waiting to see if there will be a 32GB.. and which version to get

Someone from Spain said s/he has an Exynos/LTE device. The Spain Samsung site also has the LTE version listed as Exynos.
The announcement yesterday was for a quad-core chip with integrated LTE, not the 5433 next-gen big.LITTLE chip everyone was expecting. Without knowing the GPU of the chip announced yesterday it's hard to say where in the fold it fits (high-end, low-end). There's nothing that's ever prevented Samsung from using Exynos with a stand-alone modem it's just that S-800 with its integrated modem is cheaper. Maybe that's what they're doing in Spain. That or it's a typo and the aforementioned owner "thinks" s/he has Exynos LTE. Everything I've read indicates the S' are using the same S-800/5420 architecture of all Samsung's previously released high-end tablets. So I'm going with typo until someone posts a CPU-Z (available in Play) read out which will say specifically what chip a device is using.
We know there are S-800 SM-T805's because reviewers have tested them. It would be extremely odd that Samsung would give the same model number (Spain's SM-T805 also) to two devices with totally different architectures. They never have before. At a minimum they'd append a letter to it (EG: the N10.1-14 LTE with 700MHz bands sold in Latin America is the "P-SM605M."
As for S-800 being long in tooth, it's not really. The CPU is more than adequate for the workload. Here's a slide from Qualcomm saying 85% of apps don't use two cores better yet four. And the majority of apps never leave the A7 core on 5420.
The challenge is the enormous amount of pixels being pushed on large QHD tablet displays. S-801 uses Adreno 330 just like S-800 so until some SoC with a more powerful GPU is released (released = shipped in a production product) Adreno/Mali is the best we've got and the differences between them performance wise aren't that significant (Mali's about 10% weaker than Adreno when maxed out).
New member here.
Received today my Tab S 8.4 LTE (SM-T705) sold here in Finland. And it is indeed an Exynos 5420.
I don't have a Micro-SIM card for it yet, but it certainly is the LTE version. Does someone know how to check the LTE chip version?
Took captures with CPU Z, but I can't apparently post outside links yet. See them here: pentsin.portaali.org/samsung/ along a photo of the box also claiming 1.9GHz Quad-Core + 1.3GHz Quad-Core.
