Hello,
My Samsung Galaxy S is listed as Unknown Device.
It started after an update to 2.2 via Kies and i did that with the regedit exploration. That was the 2.2 beta and then i updated it again with the official release this time also with the regedit exploit. I have formated the internal SD (i cant dismount it cause im on froyo i guess? atleast there is no option about it). Factory reset and so on.
Reinstalled kies 5 times, installed USB drivers again and again. I have tried it on different platforms with both XP (32-bit), Vista (32-bit) and Slackware Linux (32-bit). The computors just cant find drivers for the device.
I have tried all the different usb options in the phone settings nothing happends. I think i have tried everything that can be found here and on google...
The phone is Rooted and im now on PDA: I9000XWJP6, PHONE: I9000XXJPM, CSC: I9000XEEJP4.
Build Info: 2010. 10.
I believe the main thing here is that i dont even get the MTP application in the phone to recognize that a USB connection have been initialized. Nothing happend in the phone when i connect the USB no MTP screen or anything, just chargeing. I have tried 2 diffrent usb cords both that worked before so its not that.. The computor just says unknown device and Kies dont notice anything at all.
I have tried installing another firmware with Odin in Download mode and stil unknown device.
So i believe the phone have, in some way lost its internal usb drivers? I have also noticed that the battery "100% charged" icon does not disapear after i disconnect the usb or the charger. Also sometimes the icon continues to charge after i disconnect. Sometimes when i turn the phone of it starts by itself after like 2 min.
Anyways! What i was wondering is if there is a way to install an official firmware via update.zip volume-up+home+power?
When i try to install a customized rom with update.zip it says:
E:signature verification failed Installation aborted.
Cause of 3e bootloader? But i think its best to maby have a good stable firmware before i go customized?
So any help would be appreciated!!! heeeeeeeelp.....
Try installing theses drivers x64 x86 depending on what operating system you're on.
If that doesn't work try going into download mode and connect with odin. With the recovery problem you need to flash 2e recovery
You can also try and download and flash the latest version firmware to your phone and see if that helps.
Good luck and tell me how it goes

Hi m8!
Thx for the reply!
I have allready tried installing those drivers doesnt work for me.
I have tried Download mode with Odin to, it still says Unknown Device in Windows (i have Vista 32-bits, but tried it on XP and Linux to).
So anything that has to do with a USB-connection seems impossible at the moment...
The phone dont start the MTP application at all and windows dont install the drivers, it just says unknown device when trying to install.
I just unistalled Kies and removed everything from regedit with "kies" in it and then rebooted and downloaded a new fresh Kies file. Installed it and rebooted again while i wiped the phone, formated the SD and did a factory reset.. still "Unknown Device" :[
The problem seems to be the software in the phone.. so my question is: Is there is anyway to update or flash the firmware in the phone without any USB connection?
Is there maby any way to get 2e recovery mode without usb connection?

There is an app in the Android Development section here that allows you to flash a kernel within Android. Never tried it myself but I believe it is now stable and you could use it to flash CF-Root internally
EDIT: Here you go...

Have you tried recovery mode? Big yellow triangle with Android man holding shovel. Then connect to PC with Kies running and click on firmware update button.
Thx man!
But it seems that i dont have root access anymore, so cant use that app either :/ i think im a hopeless case.. :[

Yes man.. i get the same thing with the Yellow friend that says "Do not turn of target!!!"..
"One of the USB devices attached to this computor has malfunctioned. And Windows does not recognize it."
and also
"Unknown Device Installed
The software for this device has been successfully installed.
Unknown device - - Ready to use"
Are you connecting through a hub or direct to the back port of the PC. A hub will cause problems. If direct then try this.. Plug in and wait till you get the unrecognised device info. go into device manager, identify the device it will either say Samsung or unknown device. right click and remove device say yes if it asks if you want to delete the driver. now restart the pc after unplugging the usb then after it has fully restarted and connected to the net plug it back in again. Hopefully it will look on the net for the driver and install the correct one.

Yep tried that to.. i have even tried it on 3 diffrent computers 2 of them in all usb ports.. and everything els works that was connected in those ports.
I dont think its the software in the computer that is the problem.. :/
I believe there is some internal (in the phone) usb firmware problem, if thats possible?
i have exactly the same problem my usb by giving uknown device (i used it at 3 computer with kies software) it seems usb not working anywhere.
I believe our only solution is to find a way to install e2 recovery via the phone.
I have this problem also.
My SGS is rooted.
I tried everything. Googled many hour.
I din't know what more to do.
I have "Android system recovery <2e>" Is this an advantage?
I turned the phone in to my provider. this message is what i got from the repairservice.
Repair Details: The phone's charge connector is moisture/water -damaged, can not be repaired. returned without action.
WTF?!! i have been really careful with the phone. The only thing i can think of is that it has been really cold where i live (Sweden) and i had it in my pocket.. but i mean cmon! it goto withstand that!
I guess i have to wait for samsung to make it possible to update firmware via Wifi.

With Recovery 2e i think it can be possible to update your phones firmware with the update.zip file but i think you need to have your phone rooted.

I think so. I have my phone rooted and also ROM Flash Manager installed. The issue now is to find an european stock image to flash compatible with ROM Flash Manager
I looked for the stock firmware image (my phone has JF3) but can't find where.
Anyone?
I don't want to flash a cooked image just in case I have to ship the phone to the repair service.
Hello, I have exactly the same problem.
My SGS is unrooted, due to warranty, and alway keep it with maximum care (it is not a free phone...).
Symptoms are the same:
-It started after an update to 2.2 via Kies
-Absolutely unrecognized by windows (xp32 and win764) anymore
-battery "100% charged" icon does not disappear after i disconnect the usb or the charger
-turning the phone off it starts by itself after like 2 min.
More: incredible but sometimes when connected to car charger, I have the message "usb connected".
Already tried all possible (unrooted) tricks.
I believe usb internal drivers (if any) are corrupted (maybe by moisture?), how to reinstall them?
Maybe usb connector damaged; I have moved a little bit with a scrwdrvr the usb connector plate and clean with air and a thin blade but no result.
I will bring to service, as warranty is still valid, but surely they will discard me (I am optimist)
If there is any solution, please post it.
Hello,
Same here, can't connect phone to pc, mtp dont start on phone after connect it on pc !
Anyone know how flashback stock rom if its possible ?
Hi someone have a stock firmware for flash it in to recovery ?
I think i will try send the phone to samsung after reflashing for see what the guys from samsupport says about this !
Yes, if a part of firmware has been corrupted (with usb info for pc recognition) maybe the solution is to reinstall entire rom.
How to find a stock rom?
How to reinstall rom from SD card in a non rooted phone with no usb connection?
Hello everyone,
Alright, I've just updated my phone to the latest version Androind 2.2.1 JPY.
I was following the guide for installing Darky's ROM, but my pc doesn't show anything when I connect my phone.
I have up-to-date drivers.
When my phone was on 2.1 JM2 it was working.
I have no idea what the problem is.
I really appreciate the help and thanks in advance.
-Mick
Hi i have a similar problem, i have to connect it about 3 times for it to recognise, i am on darkys rom. anyway try this:
go into settings - wireless + networks - USB settings and select ask on connection. then try it again.
I'm not on Darky's rom yet since I can't connect to my PC.
I've just tried that a couple of times but didn't work.
does the phone connect when in download mode ? try a re flash if it does...
It does not, it also doesn't show up in Odin.
does the pc make any sounds when usb is connected ?? are you sure its not the usb cable thats at fault here ??
No sound at all. But like I said, it worked when I was on 2.1. So it's not the USB cable.
Uninstall Kies .
Reboot and reinstall Kies to give you USB drivers .
If your phone works and is set to USB mode Mass Storage connect cab;e and windows will pick up phone .
jje
Just tried it, but it didn't work.
try a stock rom
I am on a stock rom. A fresh JPY 2.2.1.
Still stuck with this problem.
have you tried a different port on the PC ? if that doesnt work u will have to try another cable to find out if its the phone or not... have u done factory reset in recovery
Yes, I've tried all the ports on my PC.
The cable is fine, because it worked just before I updated.
I'm going to try a factory reset right now.
EDIT:
Factory reset didn't work. Should I try a re-flash?
EDIT2:
Just remembered I can't do a re-flash since I can't connect to my PC whatsoever.
Did I brick my phone?
I have the same issues but I have flashed several roms none the less. I gave up on the PC after serveral PC's and several days. I think it may be a usb hardware issue as I did connect to Kies once and the PC once but then I tried the next day and I've never gotten it back on despite countless driver reinstalls, android SDK adb attempts, odin, heimdall etc...
So to flash I first installed clockwork mod as an update.zip (put it in the root folder, then boot up in recovery - you'll need 3 button mode working I think). This was in the instructions for the first VoodooDoctor rom I flashed.
I also highly recomend also getting steam recovery (mine was part of a rom so I don't know the XDA link) as it allows flashing roms that are stored on the SD card. which is handy for me as that is the only way to get something on the phone if the flash goes sideways and I didn't already have it in the root folder. It is accessible now as the update.zip in my root folder and so I can run it from clockwork.
Clockwork allows you to flash from the phone - no odin needed. Steam does the same but steam is newer so I've mainly stuck with CWM except when I had to figure out a way to fix a bad flash....
I made this post about my near death (of my sgs)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=929020
I'd still stick with the tried and true as its a little nerve racking to flash knowing that you need some function on the phone to recover but if you are dying to try a good tested custom rom I'd encourage you do so.

Hi!
After searching the forums for a while I did not find a thread exactly matching my problem, so if I've overseen it, please just point me there.
To my problem:
I did a very stupid mistake, flashing a new custom ROM with a different kernel (as usual, cooked in Docs Kitchen) without converting back the lagfix. So I ended up with a non-booting phone - so far, so bad. Note to myself: Never flash a phone during the carnival weekend again.
So I booted into download mode and tried to recover it via Odin, but here I got my really bad surprise: USB device is not recognized, thus I Odin does not see the phone.
I tried 4 different PCs with Win7 or XP, a Linux desktop and a Macbook. I also tried 5 different USB cables (they all work with other smartphones like the Desire and the HD2). Wherever I stick the phone in, it is not recognized (code 10/code 43 in Win7). I used the stand-alone-drivers from the sticky forum thread here, and also most recent Kies versions, always the same: USB device not recognized.
Does anybody have an idea how to revive the USB connectivity? I'm almost at the point to send it in for repairs...
Or can someone elaborate how I could have killed USB with corrupting the ROM? I've to admit I do not really understand how these two are connected.

Hi Amokbunny
You get into download mode but the PC won't recognize the phone?
That's messy and I can think of nothing that could have done that. you did not change the bootloader did you (flashed a full samsung ROM containing a bootloader, for example VJ1)?
If not I guess it's a hardware issue.
formatted to ext4 without any backup
I did a very stupid mistake too. Got darky's rom 9.3., installed i, everything worked great(really awesome thing), then i wnt to recovry mode and entered tthe speedmod and it showed mr that my phone has rtf files system not EXT4 as it should be, thou i installed the speed mode. then i chose to repartition it to ext4 but i didn't choose the backup. Just clicked to format the sd. It did formatted to EXT4, rebooted, i saw the darky's rom logo and the the phone vibrated and the logog of the droid just flashed. I tried to enter recovery mode-didn't load. Started the download mode connexted to pc used ODIN 1.7 with PDA I9000XXJPY.tar, MODEM I9000XXJPY.tar, GT-I9000-CSC-MULTI-OXAJPY-LITE.tar s1_odin_20100512.pit.
The phone has started, appeared teh stok galaxy s logo and it's just flashing. Help needed. Don,t know what to do know. I have galayx s i9000 european version.
somehow i've managed to install new firmare 2.2.1 /I9000XXJPY-baseband /2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1-kernel version, but z4root isn't working. When i start permanent root the programm ends on aquiring root shell, the debug mode is on
Got it all running, installed Darky's rom 9.3. Thanks anyway.

Yep, I can boot into download and recovery modes, but that's it.
The only apparent change in the new custom ROM was the kernel.
I also cannot really access my external SD card (it shows me some phantom files, but not the actual content of the SD), otherwise I'd try to recover it this way.
I agree with the hardware issue, if it wouldn't have coincided with the flash procedure...anyway, I think I'll send it in for repairs if I don't get it to run on this sunday.
I have the exact same problem, except that I can access my external SD. I got the problem after upgrading to Darkys Rom 9.3 the usual way, but switched from Speedmod to Voodoo. After that update, my USB didn't work anymore.
I can't get neither Xp or Win 7 to recognize my phone. USB device not recognized, and tried all the tricks. Reinstalling Kies and drivers, switching between the different modes (storage, kies media, ask, debug...) But still no USB connection.
I updated to darkys 9.5 (transferring the rom using bluetooth, and updating using CWM), but still it doesn't work.
Can get it into download mode, but still can't connect using USB and Odin.
HELP!
Did anybody ever find a solution for this?
European version of I9000, bought in Denmark. No Simlock
Same thing here after installing JV1 + Ultibread Rom 1.4... Still no solution
*shameless push*
Any solution here? I dont have that problem, but it sounds too scary to not have a working solution :S
Same prob here! Any news?

But if you are in download mode on your fone you'd rather should have a look at your configuration on the computer. Because the fone still can be flashed if the symbol for download still appears.
- Kies is shut down while ODIN is active?
- latest Samsung USB driver installed?
- Odin started with Admin?
Btw. did you try to get into recovery mode? Maybe this also still is working as the partition is quite small and chance high that it was flashed w/o faults. So you may be able to flash a zipped ROM rather than a tarball for Odin.
USB Not working when Phone plugged in... try these..
Unplug Device from PC..
Windows go to Device Manager...
Scroll down to Universal serial bus Controllers
Start with the top one and work your way down ..uninstall them all..
When done reboot Computer and let it install them all.. then try again
2.Settings --> USB Setings (under wireless & network may differ depending on Rom used) --> Try other settings Mass storage
3.Different USB ports on PC
4.Uninstall KIES from PC (reboot PC to take effect) and Reboot and just install samsung USB drivers....
5.Using windows type in msconfig in Start>Run box... windows will pop up and untick KIES from STARTUP TAB
Apply to take effect and restart machine.. try using ODIN to Flash ROM
I myself only use the Samsung USB drivers and ODIN never use KIES
or ...Check my signature and try SD formatter
Hi all, I have scoured the web for similar issues and can't find any answers
-Captivate I897 running 2.1 formerly mounted to my MAC just fine, rooted using Galaxy-S one click root. Root was successful, mostly just removed bloatware, etc.. but alas my phone is no longer recognized by the computer, although the phone recognizes that it is connected, when I click "mount" nothing happens on the computer's end.
-Appears to be a problem with the phone, I have tried Win7 w/ Kies mini and installed/reinstalled drivers, dev mode, etc...nada. And here's the kicker - these machines will recognize and mount my GF's unrooted Vibrant just fine.
-I have a separate micro SD card reader that can read the SD card out of the phone that way.
-So, I am hoping for some help to either
1 - fix the computer recognition issue, or
2- find steps to manually update to 2.2 or unroot, etc, any ideas that will get me running 2.2 and hopefully mount to Mac or PC, using files manually loaded to the SD and installed during recovery mode, this looks like flashing, would Andromeda or Cognition fix the connectivity issue?
Thanks in advance!!
If you're rooted and can get into download mode (power off+2 volume buttons+plug usb in) then you can use this link ----> http://www.megaupload.com/?d=QL6NX702 to flash stock 2.2 firmware. Note: This WILL break your root. Here's the thread on Odin One Click as well---->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989. You probably want to read the information there before flashing to 2.2.
Good Luck!
Thanks for the suggestion, I've tried multiple drivers, but since my PC doesnt recognize my phone, both Odin or Superoneclick dont recognize my phone also.
I was able to manually unroot by copying the One Click Root Update.zip to my phone via Wifi File-sharing app. Unroot was successful, but still no connection to PC or Mac.
I'm stuck for now, It appears that any type of flashing requires a PC connection, unless there is some way to flash completely with Wifi-copied files and using the 'reinstall packages' option?
Well, if you have a dropbox, you could drag and drop a rom (say cognition) onto your phone's dropbox. Then you'd need to find a CWM recovery (make sure it's not 3.0) update.zip and reinstall packages. This will give you CWM recovery, from which you could install Cognition from your dropbox. No guarantees it will work, but it's worth a shot.
Can't help on the Mac and I only have a dim memory of 2.1, but what are your setting under Settings/Applications for USB settings and Development? Do you have USB debugging checked (on)? Do you have the Development settings set to something weird like Kies update?
My recommendation is to put USB debugging on (checked). In that case I think the USB settings choice is disabled and therefore ignored. Then when you connect to the computer you will get a message in the notification bar on your phone saying something like "select to copy files to/from the computer". Click that, then click the mount button. You should then be able to see the extra drives on your computer by looking under My Computer or whatever (on a PC). On mine they are F and G, no special indications that they are drives on an attached phone. I also do get an automatic pop-up for the new drives, like when you insert a USB stick, but I imagine that setting could be disabled so look for the drives manually.
If you can get a com port try to do a master clear with the phone plugged in and on the entire time, then do various methods of getting into download mode if you got a com port when the phone booted up, future references I would use Odin to flash speedmod kernel to get cwm and then flash a rom or leave it as is, when I first started rooting I used the same software and got the same problem
Try installing all the drivers beforehand just to make sure

My wife's phone has the exact same issue as OP. Suggestions like above are useless unfortunately as the phone does not recognize that it is connected to a computer. Instead it acts as though it is connected to a charger. The oddest thing is that if I plug it in to a computer while the phone is turned off, the phone will turn on! However, still no recognition that it is connected to a PC.
Initially when I connected the phone the first time, Win7 said driver failed to install. Then my working cappy would not connect to Win7. I had to uninstall and reinstall the drivers and restart. My working cappy connected as it should, but my wife's phone from that point refused to recognize anything but charging.
Attempts to fix Via external SD: (1) I transferred Continuum 4.1 and reinstalled. Still not recognized. (2) Transferred my recovery images from January for stock, but just became stuck on boot screen for Continuum. I am uneasy about transferring the update-recovery.zip and download folder from original backup as I do not know whether it will screw up attempts to re-enter recovery if it does not work. (3) Attempted download mode, but only works via CWM 2 (not extended menu or three button or by inserting battery with odin up trick). Even when in DL mode odin does not recognize the COM port. (4) Attempted different orders for connecting to Odin in DL mode. By orders I mean rearranging the order I connect (i.e. open odin then connect cable then go to DL). (5) transferred andromeda3 and reinstalled, still same issue.
So, I am left thinking a hardware failure occurred at some point, so I will need to open it up and check connectors to solder it possibly.
Possible non-hardware solution is to restore to stock somehow WITHOUT Odin via CWM. Anyone know if this is possible or have a link to a flashable zip?
Thanks!
edit: I am on Win7 and always made sure USB debugging was checked. Also I tried to connect via One-Click Root for the heck of it and kies mini. No luck.
flashed without a cable
Thanks for the tip jomeister 15, I was able to flash new roms dropped over wifi with CWM recovery. This got me onto 2.2 which was the main purpose of this whole adventure. I just loaded Andromeda3 and it's pretty darn impressive.
My PC and Mac still do not recognise my phone, I troubleshot extensively like Snowake and nothing is recognized. I'm convinced its a hardware issue but who cares with wireless flashing and file transfer.

You could try to send a ROM, kernel, and update.zip(CWM flash) and attempt to get another ROM over it. Format the system, wipe dalvik, I don't think its a hardware issue, I had the same problem first time I tried using 1 click rooting, I just waited patiently and got a com port after about two days, so that just leads me to believe some configuration file was corrupted during flash to stock, possibly flashing a ROM or reflashing the ROM you're on with a complete wipe of the system and user data and whatnot, or possibly just doing a backup up from cwm and immediately restore it, if its charging I highly doubt its hardware
Sent from my I897 using XDA App
Okay a little backstory:
I was on an early version of CM9 but as i am selling the phone i decided to put a more stable version of it on there and downloaded CM7 -stable.
I flashed this in CWM and it worked fine.
I gave it a quick test and noticed all the google apps were missing, most importantly the market. So i booted into recovery and realised i had forgotten to put the zip on the SD card.
I then went into mounts and mounted USB, nothing happened...
From that point onwards the phone would not talk to the PC. even if i booted up into the phone, it would just show it as charging. I could not find any options in the menus for USB options.
After some extensive reading, i tried a few things, none of them had worked. I found a post mentioning some kernels have issues with USB, so i downloaded the recommended one and flashed it in CWM.
After rebooting, CWM was now orange and not blue and the option to flash from external card has gone.
I have also done some digging and there is a good posibility that the kernal that i flashed was for the GT I9000 (which is the american one, right?)
So as it is at the moment:-
I can get into CWM.
I can get into download mode through the 3 button combo.
I can get into download mode using home made jig.
I can boot the phone, but it boot loops.
I can not get the phone to be detected on the pc.
Things i have checked:
Cable will connect other phones.
Tried different cable to be sure.
Phone used to be detected, but downloaded drivers through kies again to be sure.
Closed Kies using task manager.
Nothing is coming up in network connections in device manager when phone is connected.
I'm out of ideas now, so £10 PayPal donation for anyone that comes up with the solution to fix it
If i can get it detected, i can use Odin to flash what i want.
Sounds like a drivers problem. You may need the 'Google driver' developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html
When I had bootloops when I first installed CM9 I used heimdall to flash a the stock CM9 kernel. This gave me back CWM.
heimdall flash --kernel 'kernel.zip'
In the commandline.
Thanks for that,
I already had the Google USB drivers from when i installed the SDK to make some apps.
So i then gave Heimdall a try (Graphical Version), it seemed to suffer the same problem.
Reporting "Failed to detect compatible download-mode device."
I seem to remember the GUI saying I didn't have the correct drivers and it downloaded them for me.
The other thing worth a try is changing the USB port and reinstalling the correct drivers on that port.
I've not seen anything like that, it has not asked me for any drivers.
It's like the phone is not connected at all. nothing will detect it, i have even tried it on another PC.
Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by installing on a port.
Well sometimes changing USB port will allow you to install new drivers. Although if you've tried it in another computer and it doesn't work then changing port may not help.
Does the phone appear in device manager when it's connected and in download mode?
Nope. Not coming up at all in the device manager. It didn't when it was booting fine. And it still doesn't in download mode. :-( I'm thinking the usb connector on the phone might be faulty.
But it was working up until trying to mount the USB in CWM

I don't suppose you have access to a Linux PC do you? Windows USB drivers are notoriously sucky. If you could plug it into a Linux PC and type 'lsusb' at a command line, that would at least show you that the device is really there.
I think I have a spare pc kicking around that I could use. I'll give it a go when I get home tonight.

Remove all the drivers completely from device manager for Samsung, then install fresh drivers and connect the cable when in download mode, hopefully it will recognize it
Are you sure the connector is clean? e.g. maybe there's dust in it.
I had that problem once, the connector was full of fabric fibers from some coat's pocket I had the phone in.
Suggestion 1 (Linux): I installed ubuntu, did not detected anything to even install any drivers. Detected my new phone fine.
Suggestion 2 (Uninstall drivers from device manager): I could not find any drivers named with the name Samsung in there.
Suggestion 3 (Clean port): I have some compressed air that i sprayed inside, it does look pretty clean and will continue to charge but still not connection on the pc.
To install the drivers for heimdall you have to run zdiag from inside the driver folder. Had to do this earlier on, the phone the other appeared as something other than Samsung composite usb or whatever it normally says
I tried this, and it displayed 9 devices after selecting show all. I seemed to recognise all of the items in the menu.
To be sure, I then disconnected the phone and re ran it to see if one of the items were missing, but it was the same number.
I too had problem with the usb connection on my i9000, and I was pretty sure my usb connector on the phone is somewhat damaged since it sometimes can only go to charging mode without being detected by my pc as a usb device. CWM instal is fine but ODIN can only detect the phone without able to flash the rom to the phone. The flashing will always stuck at the message "Setting Up Connection", I waited for 15 minutes and the flashing will eventually died. I retry the odin flash for 40 to 50 times and eventually the flashing will go through one time. Tried heidmall command line and the result is the same.
I have problem with Odin in the past. I bought a new laptop, running Win7 64 bit. Installed Samsung Kies to install the correct USB drivers for the phone. Then made sure that Kies wasn't running in the background. So tried using Odin. Odin was detecting the phone, but it was hanging at initialising connection. Odin was working fine on my old laptop running Win7 32bit. Long story short, I was having a few issues with my new laptop, reinstalled Win7 64bit, now Odin is working fine, have flashed the phone a few times using the new computer.
After flashing which kernel you started facing this problem?
Wipe ur phone,re-flash CM7(flash the nightly 181,it's completely stable),uninstall KIES,uninstall old usb drivers, install these usb drivers http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=961956 ,check that USB storage mode is set as Mass Storage and then connect your phone. Also try enabling/disabling USB debugging

The point at which i could no longer mount the USB was when i selected "mount usb" from CWM. I later installed a new kernal which downgraded my CWM, removing the install from external SD option.
So I cant flash a re-flash a rom unless i can it onto the phone which without the USB working is near impossible.

You can directly download the ROM on your internal sd using dolphin browser or opera mobile
I can't do that either as the phone is currently boot looping.
