[Q] why my galaxy note's sound is not good? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi. I have a question about galaxy note's sound on a headset. I have right now an AKG noise cancelling headset which sounds very well on my cheap sony walkman. But when used on my galaxy note, i have used Equalizers, to DSP stuff, but i must say, bass don't sound good, it is never as good as my walkman. I tried those beats plug in via CWM but still the sound sucks. I currently use powerplayer app but sounds like ****.
any tips?

Okay two things here....one can be the terminals of ur headphones are nit getting properly synced to the 3.5mm jack of ur phone. Second for sound boosting u can use voodoo sound from the market. Doesn't increase bass but increase the overall volume which is limited by default.
BOOMED from my BOMBASTIC NOTE :-D

Thta's what i am wanting, sir. the boom in the bass of that sony walkman. ok, i will try the voodoo app and hope it's good... so how do i fi the jack incompatibility?
thanks for the response.

Get volume+ it works great

Have tried many different players, also worth giving PowerAmp trial a try. The bass that can produce is awesome... If the sounds still tinny with that you can rest assured headphones aren't connecting properly.

I,ve tried many things already, but it is hard to doubt my AKG's. I love those earphones, but what to do, perhaps it is incompatible. I dont want to go bluetooth coz I dont like to waste my battery in such manner. Well i guess i will do some research on compatible earphones, earbuds, headsets, or what nots. Im gonna miss those AKG's if i put them aside, though... Thanks for the response.

SAmsung galaxy s vs nokia (nokia gets edge)

Hi guys...
I recently bought the samaung galaxy s and I am very disappointed about the music quality (basically the very poor bass or bassless audio) ..
Being suspicious of wether it's the stock headset performing bad or it's the galaxy itself which sucks I decided to conduct an experiment..
I connected the stock headset of samaung galaxy to nokia's 5230 and I was very shocked believe me the music quality..the bass was rich and exactly what I wanted...
Now I connected the stock headphones to my Sony NWZ-E443 Walkman...and violaaa...even better music and bass....
Now I've installed the vodoo sound kernel, but it doesn't do much with the bass..heard people suggestions for buying senhisser or sony's headphones..but I am worried about one fact is that why isn't the same stock headphones performing good in my galaxy S...
Has it got something to do with impedance, sensitivity and other technical stuff..or simply it's not the galaxy cup of tea..
I don't understand why you need to buy $50 headphones from third-party after buying a $650 phone..still being un assured of getting good sound..feels pissed nokia 5230 being $110 performs better
WHATS THE CATCH ?????
My view is the opposite of yours .
Bass is a sound distortion not normal sound .
Measurement should be at neutral as the sound came .
How much the extra bass sounds is also measured with the treble to give the dynamic range .
jje
I use Poweramp from the market, it is a music player but with a built in equaliser with a lot of presets to choose from, you can hit the bass up on that and notice the difference, I know its not a free app, try the 12day trial, better than spending X amount on headphones

Is it not the galaxy S, that suppose to have one of the best sound chip integrated? (Wolfram something something). Even better than Ipod.
I personally have found the sound on the Galaxy S to be excellent...so much so I have stopped carrying around a separate MP3 player (Zune HD for tha win) when I don't need my full collection with me.
However i would definitely recommend installing a kernel with VooDoo sound to make the most of the hardware. I also use PowerAMP (great, great software with a very useful EQ) and move back and forth between the stock Samsung earbuds when I want to be able to take calls easily while listening, and Etymotic HF5s when I just want to focus on the music.
With a little software/hardware attention, the Galaxy S is a first class music player, without doubt.
From what I've read, it's one of the best sound chips but the drivers suck atm, supercurio seems to be releasing Voodoo drivers up to date as they are released and Voodoo control app updates every other day you can especially notice the difference with the fm radio, make sure your headphone amplifier is on maximum in Voodoo control app and you should see a difference

The audio is Clear Crisp and loud Enuff !....but as i said vodoo sound kernel, but it doesn't do much with the bass
The audio just lacks the Bass throbs , pumps beats.... somehow i think badly designed equilizer from samsung is the culprit !....
Never say Nokia is better than any Android phone, no matter what!
That said, I enjoy the sound of my Galaxy S but even if some hardcore nerd proves that a Nokia phone -- any one among the lots -- is good in music than SGS, I will still remain too much happy with SGS (aka the best android phone in India).
BTW, try various equalizers in the PowerAMP, you should be good. One more thing though, I think N8 us better in Camera than SGS. But still, if I'm to rate SGS and N8, it would be:
SGS - 8/10
N8 - 4/10 (anyone who doesn't know why, is just lame, or trying to be one)
Android is Future! And you'll hear some newly appointed (other than Elops) nokia chief making an announcement of Android Adoption by Nokia in 2013-14. Sooner, if Nokia's lucky.
Stock head phones will almost always suck. You need to spend a fair bit of money to get accurate sound reproduction. I use a quality set of sealed ear buds with my sgs, and base reproduction is excellent.
A phone company is never going to include the $100+ headphones required for an audiophile with a phone... Most people would never use them, so it would be a waste.

Chill guys any nokia phone stand nowhere in front of our Galaxy S
just talking about the audio part which bothered me
How about trying these headphones

Problem solved !!! Awesome Music
Solution
Sony MDR-XB40LP
Sony MDR-XB20LP
Sony MDR-XB300
Sony MDR-EX50LP
Consider using Voodoo Sound
Try rock eq in official music player is very amazing mixed with voodoo kernel ... Too Loud and so clean sound, better then any expensive limited mp3 device!

I had also this "bad" experience with combination of voodoo and poweramp and then I found this thread which solved everything... if you do this with poweramp, remember to disable the eq from PA.

[Q] Incredible S Audio Quality ?

I was aiming for the Sensation but the price is out of range for me so I figured I'd have to settle for the solution right below it (Nope, not the Desire HD)
Incredible S - A phone with all my needs, a perfect screen size, great camera, great-looking (I'm probably the only one who thinks so lol) .. Even if the bootloader's currently locked i'm not the type who won't use a device unless root, we got WidgetLocker, Go Launcher and other stuff not to mention the original Sense UI is awesome
But one thing i'm concerned about -- the sound quality, I read that GSMArena review and they said it was bad .. I'll basically use the phone I buy as my music player so that matters to me a lot, and earphones sound is more important than speaker sound for me
What's your experiences with the sound quality ? If it's great, i'll head out and buy this phone since it's perfect besides that, if it isn't i'll buy the Desire S which means i'll have to settle for an average camera .. I need positive clarification before I get the S.
I use PowerAmp as my musicplayer, and with the build in equalizer and SRS Enhancement and a good pair of earplugs, i think the sound is just fine.

Thanks, what do you think of the speaker sound, then ?
a good pair of earphones will get u going in no time, as for the loudspeaker, they're quite soft and there'll be static noise n distortion if turned to the max. it's htc, it's normal x
IMO ...use custom earphones and a good sound manager like poweramp...the sound is quite good for a phone.
But yeah the speakers are just average! dont expect too much from them.
but overall u wont regret buying this phone
Ok, thanks guys ! I have my eyes set on it now.
I had an iphone before my IS, and the sound on the IS is a lot better than iphone using Poweramp
The quality of the phone/sound is nice, will try with my stereo nokia bt hedest at home, and chk beck to tell.
Also htc makes awfull earphones, its literally hurt my ears, so one need to change that!

Volume+ does work but..............
If you use poweramp (I do) you must disable a particular setting for Volume+ to work, and in result makes the overall sound quality awful, Very tinny and distorted bass that wants to shatter your ear drums.
Havent really tested it on loud speaker and I only really listen with my Beats Headphone in.
Also, Awesome beats doesnt work for me (and many others) and constantly FC's.
If you're not a poweramp user, then definitely test the free trial version, Its an awesome player with a great equalizer board ! definately increases sound and quality compared to stock music player and / or google play music !

Which rom has the best sound for you?

I mean for both music Via External Speaker and Via Headphones.
Some roms i think have a Very low Speaker Output, we got one of the few smartphones with real stereo speakers and they have incredible well.... Low Volume
I think CM10.1 has very good sound, you have DSP Manager, which is a equalizer app for CM. You can either choose presets or do it yourself. You also have a bass and treble booster.
If you have decent headphones or earphones, you can really experience it.
Hope this answers your question

Temasek's CM7+vadonka's eTana kernel sounds best.
As supercurio said before,cm10/4.04official has changed the audio sampling rate to 48kHz which leads to poor SRC and poor audio quality which is important to me as daily players.I remember that Vadonka once could change his sample rate of his CM7 kernel, but the dev seem haven't found the way to change the sampling rate on CM10/4.04.Glad that someone raised the question as the sound quality is the only thing stopping me from using ics.
It would be great if someone is going to fix it.
Also, supercurio has seemingly lost his interest in continuing voodoo for 2x either for new Kaudio driver or support of ics.Can it be ported to a flashable zip?Big Thanks for it.
I use the 2x as my daily music driver with TF10.
With any rom that suports voodoo sound...
supercurio seems that is not going to bring us their implementation of Voodoo in CM10 and above : (
we never really even had voodoo sound, in our version only the amplifier controll worked, which is more like voodoo loud..
sad panda

O2x has only 1 main speaker out n that's called mono.
I wouldn't mind that if it wasn't so weak and distorted at high (cough)
volumes.
FWIW mind you no software tweak can do any major difference to a small speaker like
this phone has. Of course nothing stops you to use an external sound system, that's
were software can do magick in the limits of course of the D/A conv. the O2x has to
offer, which is not that bad actually.
You can use the hdmi to bypass the D/A converter or even bluetooth anytime of the day though...
what you talking about there is 2 speakers, and the hp jack 3.5mm is stereo also

If you kindly tilt your phone. - i suggest you got a lg p 990 not su 660. - there will magically appear 2 - in words two - speakers to the left and right of your micro USB jack... further no need to say that the tech specs if you check them online clearly say "stereo speakers"
For further notice size doesn't matter.
But it shows that you have clearly no idea about actual audio technic and still think a speaker must be"this big" to do a good sound work.
That don't need BTW that I think this speakers are spectacular or something. But I think they got more potential...

I don't think so. As i know, p990 has just one speaker, another one is just micro (which looks like second speaker).
About sound quality. I use dual boot with old boot just for voodoo sound. 1 rom is wiui with etana kernel which supports voodoo. I am using this rom only for music and second pa build4. We have a lot cm 10, 10.1 for old boot and i think it's enough for those people who really needs them and voodoo.

Size in speakers is very crucial as it defines the lowest frequency it can reproduce.
I don't want to get more technical about it but the bigger the speaker is, the lowest can get frequency wise.
As for all the other stuff I stand to my previous post.
If you don't mind, being cocksure about stuff is ridiculous in my book.
The speakers (ear speaker + main speaker)in p990 is low quality, the audio output has nothing to do with the speaker if this is ok with you that is.
Good luck.
but saying its mono is just wrong
Why? It's not stereo and it sums to mono...
How do you call that? Anyway...

yes your right, it very well could be summed mono, however. there is 2 speakers right? so its still stereo. L (L+R) R (R+L) or whatever phase

Well if you read the post than you would have read that the so appeared second speacer is just the mic what appers as a speaker due it´s looks. I googled it and only a German site labled it falsely as Stereo speakers.
So this is realy akward that a phone life MOTO Defy has so much better and louder audio quallity in phone speaker and headphone sound.
I´m a real adiophile and i suggesting to get another phone just because the poor audio quality :crying:

Headphone volume

Hi guys,
I know this seems strange, but I'm a bit concerned about the loudness of the headphone volume based on reviews. I hear it is really loud, this seems like a bad thing to me?
On my s2, I am running dorimanx kernel so I can lower headphone volume, as it is too loud to listen to music on lowest settings. I also use power amp as it is quieter than other players. I listen to metal, which seems to be more of an issue than other styles of music due to the density of sound. I have tried multiple headphones, so not an issue there.
Has anyone had any experiences with the one that can calm my fears?
Cheers guys

It's really loud, especially with the Beats in-ear headphones. I was surprised that it was such good quality though. Deep bass and hi treble. Excellent earphones.
I would root the device and get an app that can give you -100% to +100% control of your volume. If you install another ROM, you will lose the Beats EQ which is responsible for processing the audio and you will lose quality.
Good luck!

Thanks! I've heard that the quality is great. I haven't come across any apps that allow this? Have been using custom kernels for this. Would you say that on lowest volume it's not too loud? I have noise canceling cans, not inner ears.
