but doesnt overcharging the battery damage the battery even more?
How I solved my battery drain problem!
Have you tried turning off 3G?
I also had this issue battery drain was huge. It started appearing suddenly one day. Its a very slow process to figure out the culprit. I did a step by step analysis.
1. Found out that battery drain was happening only when 3G was on. Verified this by switching off data network (long press power button to deactivate).
2. Also verified abnormal data usage in my carrier page when I was not using my phone [like - 3G was on and I was watching a movie at a theater].
3. I also saw abnormal battery drain soon after I started Google Maps after a fresh reboot.
4. So I identified the culprit - Google Maps - but was not sure how to solve battery drain [Google Maps restarts, if you kill it].
5. I installed a variety of apps to identify the battery hog. Finally I went for Task Identifier.
6. Task Identifier finally showed me what programs started while my screen was off, etc. And I started noting them. Finally I figured out that Google Maps::BackgroundFriendService was running frequently.
7. A quick search on Google helped me understand that this is about Google Latitude. It searches for your friend's location every now and then - leading to battery drain!!!
8. I opened up Latitude and signed out from it [I guess the sign out option is in Menu -> Privacy].
9. Do not re-open Google Latitude after this - you will get signed in again leading to battery drain.
10. After 2-3 months of search and prodding, I finally figured out the cause of battery drain and fixed it - now I get 2 - 3 days of charge in my battery under normal usage!!
I'm happy now!!
Hi,
If you're using Froyo and can access file in your phone,
In task manager , on the tab "Summary", click on the "start monitoring" button. Let it monitor the phone over the night. The next morning, there should be 2 files created in your sdcard, one is CPUxxxxx and the other one is battxxxxxx.
The Batxxx tells you when the percentage of the battery at certain time of time. the CPUxxxx will tell you wht applications are running during that period.
When i used it first time, i notice that facebook and lattitude always running - when I stop these 2 tasks; i get a normal drain again.
while you guys are at it.
here's my "problem".
when I surf for an hour over 2g I losing about 10% batterylife and android reports that my display uses around 90% to 95% of the battery.
display is set to lowest brightness + screen filter.
is that normal? (im guessing it is not).
used dozens of different roms (stock, darky, jims, etc...), same behaviour everywhere.
i already did all the battery stat wiping and whatnot.
is it a faulty battery or display or something?
for the OP, maybe a combination of the above with this could help :

helped me .
edit : to pfannenwender, maybe your unit is faulty?

Sounds normal to me. 10% loss while surfing and 95% display is nothing extraordinary.

Hello all,
Today i want to share something about a battery drain that i used to have since 4.3 update. Since i updated my phone phone to 4.3, i was having a irregular drain in my battery. It drained about 1% or 2% per hour with wifi and data off. After much research, i found the killer of my battery. First of all, i searched about a reason for my battery draining even in iddle state. For this, we must read about wakelocks first (READ HERE). Please remember to give him thanks for his awesome thread.
First thing, i reinstalled a 4.3 stock based with full wipe. After all apps were installed, the battery seemed to be ok.
After reading about these wakelocks (i recommend BetterBatteryStats for the following), i found out some interesting ones, like secril_fd_interface (fast dormancy related). For who that doesnt know about Fast dormancy, it is a service that is intended to save your smartphone's battery when it is in a mobile data. But for this service to work, it requires the network provider to have that service running too, if the network doesnt have it, your phone will have various wakelocks trying to have a response from network. In my case, my provider does not have this, so i disabled it with this app (works for our model too).
After that, i configured my two email accounts (hotmail and my work's mail, wich is a mycrosoft exchange account) and left the phone with wifi on while i slept. For my surprise, my phone started to drain battery like crazy, it drained 20% overnight with just wifi on. When i opened BetterBatteryStats, the only wakelocks that caugh my attention was the exchange services (more than 200 wakelocks with sync configured to 1h and syncing just 3 days of mails). After this, i knew that if i remove my email accounts, the problem will be gone, but i need those for work.
I read somewhere that the exchange app does not have the ability to sync some folders on our mail (drafts for example), so i removed everything inside drafts and another unused folders, but no lucky.
My accounts were configured to sync 3 days of mails in an interval of 1 hour, so why in hell was more than 200 wakelocks at 1400Mhz of CPU? So i tested one last thing in email app. For my surprise, my battery problem was gone and 80% of email related wakelocks too.
Here is what i did:
1. Openned email app, go to settings.
2. Go to account settings and tapped on the account
3. Rolled down and tap in more settings
4. Tap on Folder sync settings
5. Tapped over avery folder that appeared and changed the sync schedule to manual and period to sync mail to 1 day
6. Did that on all my accounts, now my problem was gone. The battery life increased not only my phone is iddle, but when i'm using it too.
I hope someone else will be helped with this. Any problems to understand the post, feel free to ask.
But this solution isn't actually a solution?
Your battery drain was related to wrong configuration of mail clients. In age of great power menagers (I won't be making advertising now) that's not a problem at all. And you are talking about basic configuration Sorry dude.
The bug on 4.3 is related to "mdm_hsic_pm0" going crazy randomly and preventing from deepsleep and there is no solution for it atm since we are not sure about source of it.

This was not a wrong configuration made by me. Everyone i know that don't have a samsung phone doesnt have this problem with exhange. The other thing, i have these wakelocks (mdm_hsic_pm0) too but my phone enters in deep sleep normally. If you read the tittle of the thread you will know that i am not solving ALL battery issues, but those who MAY have an exchange services excessive drain like i was having. If you have nothing to add, then please don't say crap.
No offence. I just want to suggest that topic name is not precise imho. Especially when we are encountering here just fast dormancy.

So having come from Verizon's Note 4 and averaging up to 24hrs on battery running pretty much the same setup as I do now on my T-Mobile Note 4 minus the "Root" & "Custom Rom" abilities. Otherwise, same apps, accounts, usage pattern, ect...
I am on an ongoing battle still after several complete wipes, different Roms including just running STOCK ANK4 and trying to figure out what is going on. Phone defect? Battery defect?
Anyhow, Ever since changing over to both the T-Mobile Note 4 & their service, my experience has been a rather miserable 14 to 18hrs MAX battery life and going from 4hrs screen on time to around 2 1/2 w/ T-Mobile.
Which now leads me yet to wonder something else. I believe I started using the "FingerPrint" security feature since switching to T-Mobile to unlock the device. Has anyone experienced a similar "Battery longevity" issue using said feature before I continue troubleshooting and chasing my own tail on this? Of course I will eventually test this theory anyhow, but figured I would throw it out there.
Also, Open to any suggestions.
Just some things I have already done along with the above mentioned:
- Utilized the App "Greenify" & donation full version to greenify many apps including "Google Play Services".
- Set up Profiles which I toggle via "PhoneWeaver" to turn off data when on Wi-Fi which consists of 90% of my day as I'm Wi-Fi connected both at home and work.
- Of course always turn off that option within Wi-Fi settings to untick "Always Scan".
- Went into "Google" app settings and turned off about everything I can find in there and it's now rather complex settings.
- Turned off most syncing of my 2 "Google" accounts to only one having anything other than Email Sync active such as the Calendar, Contacts, and Apps Sync. - Again, my 1 Google Account I only have set to sync Email and nothing else.
Sure I forgot some things I've tried but again, I am open to any/all suggestions. I admit, I bought my T-Mobile via Swappa. All seemed well as per their checklist of the obvious things to check regarding the phone's operation. Kind of stuck here now and wondering if my device is simply defective and/or the battery.
Also of note: Android System is always by far the largest contributor to my battery drain and exceeds even Screen-On time by around 10%. But then again, don't really know if that means anything or not since even before switching carriers and the transition from "JellyBean" to "KitKat" on my previous S4, Android System became a forever battery hog for me.
Just never had a top end device such as this in past years barely get me through a complete day: Work & Home time. I don't consider myself a heavy user. Barely even "Moderate" many days as I mainly text during my lunch break, otherwise phone is pretty much idle. And say 2 phone calls of aprox 20 min.s each during commute time. Yea, something just isn't right. :crying:
I have noticed 3 things that were hurting battery bad.
1.) Use the Google play services with the 030 extension. I get way better battery life on it 5% to 10% increase in battery life. Link below:
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google...ices-7-0-99-1809214-030-android-apk-download/
2.) If you are not using maps or other location services turn your location off. Literally a 20%+ increase in battery from this alone.
3.) Toggle your NFC. Something in Android 4.4.4 sometimes causes your NFC to wake lock. If you turn it on then turn it off one time it normally fixes is.
I attached my battery stats below.
It with about 2 hours of screen on time.

Thanks for the reply and suggestions! I just checked and I am currently running Google Play Services V 7.0.97 (1791429-030).
A couple things I have done meanwhile since my OP which have had "some" noticeable positive effects on my battery duration, yet still no where near what you have posted are:
Within "Google Settings" app:
- Account History ( I have "turned off or rather paused" ALL the Activity/Info/History settings here - All 5)
Regarding my 2nd, basically "Junk mail" Gmail Account:
- Now have ALL "Sync" turned off within, including the syncing of email, which I now simply check manually to update.
Greenify:
- Revisited, and added a bunch more apps and pretty much "Greenified" ALL Samsung related entries/services/ect...
So far I have increased to achieving up to about 3 1/2 hrs Screen time (Gained 1 hr) & a few more hours of real time battery longevity as I can now achieve close to 20hrs before needing charge.
Still feel I have some troubleshooting to go. Oh, I actually have the NFC Service "Greenified" to. So far haven't really noticed a problem with "Deep Sleep" either according to CPU SPY pro.
Yep, Have always had the Location Service to OFF, not even using the so called "Battery saving" selection with it. Such a pity to have to cripple such things but it's a trade off I guess in achieving a full day's battery vs.s using the features with this phone for some reason more-so than past devices it seems. At least in my case. :silly:
I've been thoroughly impressed with battery life on the Moto Z as a result of normal use. Less so with idle battery consumption. That is, after installing my full complement of apps (including facebook and twitter), I did a few tests by going too bed on a full charge, and found that 7 or so hours later, it had burned down 15-20% doing nothing overnight!
I installed gsam batter monitor since the stock one is kind of useless. This provided a lot of valuable info, which is basically that Twitter is a huge hog, Facebook surprisingly isn't, and google play services also seems to be spinning its wheels a lot when I'm doing nothing. But most of my juice was going to powering the wifi radio.
Android M has a setting to turn off wifi when the phone is sleeping. I was reluctant to do this at first because I figured my apps would just start wasting my data instead. However, you also have the ability to selectively limit apps' ability to use cellular data when running in the background. In an app's settings you can click "Data Usage", then "Restrict app background data."
I did this for all the apps that gsam identified as being the wifi/battery users. And frankly there are almost no apps that I actually want using data when I'm not using the app itself anyway, except SMS and gmail. (I wish there was a way to just say "actually shut this app down when I close it", so I could activate it for most apps!)
Anyway -after doing this, I activated the setting to turn off the wifi radio when the phone was sleeping.
Result? 2% battery drain overnight, and minimal cellular data use. Amazing.
(Btw - I also uninstalled the twitter app and just put a link from chrome on my desktop. The web mobile app is very good anyway and I'm not much a twitter addict so this is a fine alternative that is a lot less intrustive for me).

I just got the phone a couple days ago. I appreciate the info here. I have also read that if you just turn wifi to 2.4 GHz only that it will keep the battery drain from happening. I don't use twitter or facebook so don't have to worry about those. Google play services has been a problem since marshmallow. If we could root we could use something like Amplify to stop all the wakelocks, but root is getting hard to come by on these new phones.
I noticed on Gsam that my phone will sleep well for a while, then the "held awake" category starts to take off. I have to reboot to get it to doze again. I have agressive doze and doze on the go activated in Greenify. Not sure what gets it started, but it would be nice to be able to kill it off without rebooting.
I bought a USB C to regular USB and have been charging without the Turbo Charger and the battery is doing so much better.
I was getting frustrated with the battery performance.

Hello!
I've owned a N960F for about 2 months now and recently I'm dealing with extremely high screen off battery drain. Looking at the stats offered by the battery tab in device care I am unable to pinpoint the cause.
Furthermore, accubattery shows very low deep sleep time. Last night it managed to achieve an incredible amount of deep sleep of 0 minutes and drain 12% in just 5h 20 minutes of screen off time.
Screen on time is not a problem, while using the phone the battery usage is normal and I am pleased by it's performance, but it is greatly affected by the screen of consumption.
Does anyone have an idea what might be causing the device to not enter deep sleep mode? Or how to find out what the problem could be that makes it use up so much juice?
Thanks in advance!
Screenshots (the accubattery is from yesterday, while the device care one I screenshot just now):

Difficult to tell, possibility is an app in the background preventing deep sleep.
When you use device care and then select battery, followed by settings you get a further screen of options, you may be aware of this.
I have used these settings, it might help.
An alternative approach is to uninstall an app to see if the phone then goes into deep sleep

I can't seem to pinpoint any app that could cause this problem and my settings were already as shown in your screenshots

i found a wierd bug recently. If you're google account has a sync error, like gmail, contacts, messages, ECT.. it will not enter deep sleep.
go to settings>accounts&backup>accounts> Google account>sync account>
Do you see anything with a circle formed by two arrows? those items can't snyc in the background for some reason. usually because the phone has put the app to sleep, optimized it, or restricted background data access. turns out my contacts arent syncing right now, glad i checked.
use this to try and help troubleshoot if you need help.

this might actually have been it, I found a weird Office account that was not syncing (I don't even remember adding it) and I removed it, I'll update if it has fixed the issue

for me, the problem was that my Contacts app was set to non-optimized ect ect... but the googlecontactsbackup app was set to optimized. I didn't even know that apps could have dependencies that show up as other apps. (i installed google contacts to replace samsung's people app).
i went from 1%-1.5% drain per hour, too .5% drain. significant change for me since im already heavily debloated.. thanks for making me look that deep lol. this is why people prefer iphones i suppose.

Are you debloat with adb and console?
Which apps disabled?
I think that Note 9 exynos have problem with consumming battery in sleep mode.
My N9 always "drain" 3-4 % in night after little debloat but A5 without debloat and with more apps consumming only 1-0% per night.
