Battery drained in 5hrs.??? - LG Revolution

Hey guys Thanks for stopping by, I've seen many posts like this which I really didn't want to post but I ran out of options... Im. Currently running on gingervolt 1.3/ blitzkrieg+ 2.6.35.7, I hope you guys have all the info you need. I leave it running over night and when I leave for work in the morning at noon its already powered off because no more battery... Please let me know if there's something I can do to make it last longer... I'm not the type of person that uses the phone all day.. Thank you

Should be in General not Development, And why don't you just shut the phone off until you go to work?

You can try: Setting the CPU lower with an apk like CPU master, CPU set, ROM toolbox, ect.... Turn down the brightness of your screen. .. Uninstall some of the apk that are always running in the background... Turn off LED message alert. Stop using apks like advanced task killer (unless you custom set it up to not kill system vital apk.) Turn off 4g unless in an area that has strong 4g sig. Recalibrate your battery after a full charge. Install GingerVolt 2.0. Buy extended battery (still $25 @ vzw website)
There are many different things you can do to get more battery life out of your phone... Look in the GingerVolt forum and check out where others have done. But get a custom to bringing your charger everywhere you go.

Turning off background data saves a good bit too. And unless im gaming or seriously multitasking i keep cpu speeds @ 245 & 1200

Turn off 4g. I didn't use my phone at all but to check battery status every few hours and it lasted 1 day 16 hours.

For those that helped me out with some tips I greatly appreciate your suggestions... I will go ahead and do some tweaking and see if that helps. Once again thanks guys

Not just turn off 4G but turn off data and wifi. These 2 radios are constantly working. The more time with them off the longer the battery will last.

My own experience and take is that daily battery life depends on good cell signal. I live at the fringe between three cell sites. My signal is typically two bars or less. At work I have a similar situation, but shielded by building opposite the cell side.
I always stay plugged in because my battery is always being used otherwise. My guess is that people who report much greater battery life are lucky enough to be in areas with good signal strength.
As an example, this morning I got up 1.5 hours ago, took the phone off the wall charger, rebooted it and used it a bit during my morning prep. I left home an hour ago with the phone plugged in to the car charger for 20 minutes (which charges at the lower USB rate). I have been at work for 40 minutes off charger since and now have 90% left on my EXTENDED battery.
At home reception is 3G most of the time. Work 4G.

yeah I agree, turning off 4G is not an acceptable solution....
GV2.0 unmodified with a cpu tool worked fine for me but I have gotten accustomed to having chargers with me wherever I go (home, office, car)
We are hearing battery life is much improved on ZV8, so maybe that will help too with the next GV release....

V8 battery life for me is now crap. I have gone from about 3% per hour usage to 7 to 10% usage and that is with almost no usage of the phone. This is sucking. I am about to roll back to v7 if this does not improve.

Not sure how your phone is different. Maybe you need a new battery or possibly a new phone. Forgot my phone at home during work today. I'm at 86% after 9.5 hours.

I've got the same problem he has except it got worse after I went to Gingervolt 2.0. From what I've read on here it seems that not wiping date may have something to do with that so once he gets the new update incorporated into Gingervolt I'll be doing a complete wipe and trying from there.

Sounds like you're killing the battery by always staying plugged in. I go about 11-14 hours a day on 3G (no 4G in my area) with stock battery with moderate use

Killing a battery by keeping it topped off or cycling it. Which is the greater evil? This type of battery has a number of discharge life cycles. So, stressing by keeping the voltage at max or consume those life cycles? I don't know, but I certainly want to have it most available, and keeping it charged works for me. Some people don't let their fuel tanks go less than 1/2.
In the end, I have way more battery, extended and spares, to care if keeping it charged up is hurting the battery because I only have it until the next upgrade in a year.
Ideally, I would prefer to change the charge scheme so it wouldn't run the charge voltage so high maybe to 95%, to protect the battery further. But, in my time frame, doesn't matter.

I run JuiceDefender Ultimate and it helps quite a bit. I'm using it in aggressive mode on Gingervolt 1.3 ROM, and ran it with stock before that.

I personally don't think hes killed the battery.
I have two because they gave me a special on docking station that came with an extra battery when I bought the phone. Anyway I sleep during the day because I work night shift. If my battery is almost dead I pop a new one in before bed otherwise its at about 97 percent after I got home from work. When I wake up 5-8 hours later I've lost almost 50 percent. Sometimes more from either battery.
I check the batter usage stats and Android System is up at about %97 percent...
I have all notifications turned off except Gmail and theres no WiFi or anything.

Battery Life- An experiment

Anderson Did an experiment to see how far the battery life can last on normal usage. The battery power was monitored using the app "Battery Monitory Widget"
And he came to the conclusion that The battery life could well last more than 2 days if you use just the communication tools (whatsapp, Facebook, sms) on a 2G network. With heavy data usage, the battery power got zapped out rather quickly.
You can have a look at the full experiment
optimus2x.net/index.php?topic=907.0
I'm kind of experimenting in this too..
Today i unplugged my phone this morning (6am) and its dropped to 97% now @ (3pm).
So thats only 3% in 9 hours..
I use Facebook widget which updates + Twitter widget same setting (both auto update every hour)
I sent about 10 text messages (also received about that amount) and made 1 phone call (about 3 minutes)
All this on 3G network, i dont save on 2G/3G setting
2G coverage is very suboptimal in Switzerland, especially if you are using a Sunrise.ch contract. Their 2G performance with Edge is about 100kbit/s for download. This is a joke. I am not able to use a phone with 2G and enjoy it. Therefore whenever possible I have to switch on 3G (which is of course also not great, but at least it is much faster).
Therefore, 2G is not an option at all for me.
I am running stock on mine and I seem to at least have found some form of "battery" drain. Trying to reproduce the usage.
But I charged my phone fully, and then restarted it and "at the moment" it is holding its power sorta alright. But when I use it normally it lasts like 7-8 hours before needing a recharge, even if its just laying on my desk and not being touched.
Ok testings done. These figures are after a reboot and where I have more or less left the phone laying on my table only having a short call, and otherwise reading a few emails and responding to a few texts. The entire time autosync was on, as well as 3G Data.
1H30M -08%
5H30M -30%
8H20M -50%
11H00M -68%
12H15M -74%
13H08M -79%
14H15M -85%
15H20M -93%
At which point I stopped the test and then put my phone in the charger. Tomorrow once it is done charging I will start up all the stuff I normally run on it, charge it to full and see how well it does there when I am not using the phone at all. Quite frankly I expect a large difference simply because that is what I have seen, but starting program and then exiting said programs and leaving the phone on standby "should" not impact consumption in my view at least.
I think there is something bad with my battery, because Battery Monitor Widget says that my battery is a 1200 not 1500, without doing nothing at all it lose 1% per hour and suddenly in 10mins drops like 6%, so in 8hs aprox from 86% goes to 68% (the phone doing nothing)
I have 3G always active, whatsapp and gmail, just that. Will try to do the test again with 2G, but what I don´t understand is why it says 1200 instead 1500.
Should I get a new battery? could be deffective this one?

CM7 is the best for me
CM7 seems to be really good for me, i used 28% of it with medium-heavy use (no games, but wifi always on and a lot of playing about with) in 5 hours and at night i lost 3% in 7 hours sleep with 3G on. Not fully stable but seems better than sacrificing the smartness of my smartphone.
Lost 0% 2 days ago when sleeping for 9-10 hours i think
Today i lost 1% when sleeping for 9-10 hours
I am using 2g since i don't have 3g connection in my house.
It's a bit unstable but battery improvement is more important for me then some little bugs

Battery Life?

Is anyone noticing ridiculously bad battery life? About a week ago it started along with what i noticed to be Verizon throttling data. Could the throttled data be the cause? I'm talking 1030a, 89% battery. Then at 430p 13% battery with the screen off and no use. I mean not even pressed the unlock button once. The background info has been the same and rooted with apps removed since day i got it.
What are you guys experiencing?
Little Buddy Sr.
yeah my battery life sucks too. even with juice defender set on aggressive, it still sucks. it's better, but not much better. unplugged today at 10am and now at 56% at 730pm. that's with minimal texting and calling use and absolutely no browsing the web (not even fb app).
Still though that's 3.5 hours longer and used half the battery. And i didnt do anything for those six hours. Like basically that's a stand by time for six hours. That's a new level for bad haha
Little Buddy Sr.
7:30am - 100%
3:00am - 15% very lite usage. 1 call, some text msg, couple of responds to words with friends, lite email.
I'm rooted, running the decrapifed 1.0, adw ex launcher.

still have JD set on aggressive. planning to use my phone as i normally would today and not paying mind to battery. we'll see how JD does in an average day situation. guys, try Juice Defender and post your results.

I believe you can switch your network to CDMA for 3g which helps with battery life..also dont leave wifi turned on OR bluetooth if you dont use it..task killer works damn well..makes my browser a bit quicker as well
Speaking of battery life....everytime I hit task killer it's always killing 17-20 apps... even when I'm not really doing anything what is the deal with that? How do I get this thing to stop running so much **** I don't even need...

I have also not been too thrilled with the battery life on the Revolution. It probably doesn't help that in my house the 4G is borderline and drops in and out constantly. I found a $30 extended battery on Amazon, so I'll give that a shot.
But the real reason that I'm posting is because I've been trying to "thank" thecubed ever since I got the phone. I haven't been able to figure out how and I finally found a post that said that you have to not only register, but also post something yourself before the thank button will show up.
Get an extended battery
there are extended batteries out there that are rated at 3000mah....this would give you a lot more talk time and standby time. Try one Good luck!

Are you rooted? If so, you can use Titanium Backup to freeze apps. Also, within Android, there are tons of triggers and events. For instance, when you start your phone, these apps open, when you connect to wifi, these apps open. Within TB, you can freeze a lot of the crap. Also, there is a program called Autostarts I really like a lot. Not well known, but great none the less. It will show you all the triggers and events. You can disable them there too. Do some reading and know what your are disabling, but why would you want Slacker to load every time connection status changes, right? Good luck, and if you need more help our want a detailed walkthrough, I can help you out with that.

Do a Google search for "Android Task Killers" and you'll find all kinds of articles explaining how these apps actually make the Android OS use more battery. There is a good one from LifeHacker that explains it in depth.
So if you're running a task killer, stop... The constant killing and restarting of apps will use more cpu cycles and drain your battery more. Android doesn't use any battery to hold an app in memory. They will launch faster, and use less CPU (which is what drains battery) if they are already in memory than if they are not. You're better off to have your memory full. I killed ATK a couple months ago after reading several posts by Cyanogen, and I not only got better battery life but also increased stability.
Second thing is try Juice Defender. I installed the Ultimate version of it and spent about an hour getting it all configured and my battery went from 100% at 8:00am and 20% at 6pm to 100% at 8:00am and 70% at 6pm with regular email checking a little web surfing, and a couple of short phone calls. I was pleasantly surprised with how well JD works.
De-crapified rom helps too. Thanks TheCubed!

My battery lasts 8-12 hours depending on how bad I beat on it.
My active days, I listen to music, play suduko, check xda, play in the market. Listen to tune in radio.
That said. I don't know if that is short. I think it's pretty long, and am happy with it. I have the decrapified rom, love it. I have App Killer by Rechild set on a widget. So I go in set what I want it to regularly kill, and tap the widget through out the day. It's mostly my android process that hogs the battery according to widgetsoid.

12 hours seems like a long day and good amount of hours. i hear task killers are bad for your phone though
I was averaging 9-12 hours with decrapified 1.1 depending on use. JuiceDefender extended that another 1-2 hours but added 4-6 seconds before I get 4G back when the device "wakes up". It turns the radio off and I have it set to ping instead of constantly syncing. 3G comes on 1st, then 4G...

Sounds ridiculous but i turn airplane mode on when i'm not using the phone. Turn it off every couple hrs to see if i got any emails or texts or something. Huge battery savings. I have the accurate battery mod posted in the dev forum so if i wake it up after sitting for an hr it's down 5% if i leave airplane mode off, but if i turn it on, it's down like 1%... maybe.
Once cm7 is available, we will see huge battery improvements, i have no doubt. Gingerbread is much better w/ the battery than Froyo. I saw huge improvements between cm6 and cm7 nightlies on my droid, to the tune of 200% standby improvements. Still heavy use i wouldn't expect more than 15 hrs, but imo 10 hrs is ridiculous. There's not really a huge difference between heavy and light use in battery time either.

good to know! thanks. when is cm7 available for the revo?
Thecubed is currently working on it.
Buy an extra battery and wall charger off eBay... Throw the battery in your back pocket, and you're set all day. I swap the battery out after about 8 hours (when I get to about 20% battery) and I'm good the rest of the day. I've had to do this with EVERY Android phone I've purchased. The OG Droid would only get me about 10 hours right when I got it, but Undervoltage Kernels, and decent Rom's brought it up to around 16 hours on the standard battery. The Samsung Fascinate was horrible - Roughly 6-7 hours out of the box. Rom's got it up to around 12. The Droid Pro - 8 hours at most on the standard battery, never saw any improvements with my usage. Droid 2 - 10 hours out of the box, but when CM7 came out on it, I was averaging around 16 hours before I got the Revo. The 8 hour battery life didn't surprise me. I kinda expected it, and had already placed my battery/charger order before I went and got the phone. I'm not a fan of extended batteries just because of the extra bulk, plus finding a case w/an extended battery is a PITA. And the 3 minute downtime from a battery swap really isn't that bad (especially if you've ever had a Blackberry).

Agreed, I don't buy from overseas with the battery but the charger really doesn't matter. I got a genuine LG battery for $19 and then just a generic charger for it for $8. Knock on wood I haven't had any problems with the chargers I've gotten, but I don't trust generic batteries either.

Battery woes.....

So I love my bionic, I really have missed android in general. I came from a ip4 that could go 2 days without worrying about anything. I could stream pandora for 5 hrs at work and still not charge until the next night. The iPhone could last about 2 days with me actually using my phone, not worrying about the brightness or wifi or syncing. It's the third day with the bionic and I took my phone off the charger at 0720 this morning. It sat on my desk for 30 mins then I went three times on words with friends. It has now been off the charger for exactly one hour and 10 mins and it is down ten percent. Should I return this phone or give it a couple more days? I am using juice defender and not rooted.
i would check to see how often your email is syncing. is wifi, bluetooth, and gps off? also go to settings-locations&security and uncheck the location services and share picture location. turn your screen time out down to about 30 seconds. i was on mine for a good 7 hours of browsing and youtube with some pandora and google music miixed in
yesterday and it dropped to 40%.
OR
go buy the extended battery from verizon. It is on sale for $24.99. It only shows up that price after you buy it at the register or put it in your cart online. The sales associates will quote you $49.99 but it will drop i promise you.
I need the phone to at least last 20 hrs with moderate use. How bad is the ext battery?
Plus mine already has all those settings that way
i dont know how the life is yet. however considering it is double the capacity im sure it should be pretty kick ass. 20 hours seems like alot to me with moderate usage for any 4.3 inch screened smartphone. especially one with 4g. I wont have 4g coverage till i get home on monday so im stuck on 3g. i would consider myself a heavy user though considering i tether to my xoom.
You sleep 4 hours a day? All kidding aside 20 hours isn't realistic if you're looking to get that consistently.

I work nights at a hospital. I am looking for the day of work and a entire shift without charging. My ip4 had no problem.

i would check to see how often your email is syncing. is wifi, bluetooth, and gps off? also go to settings-locations&security and uncheck the location services and share picture location. turn your screen time out down to about 30 seconds. i was on mine for a good 7 hours of browsing and youtube with some pandora and google music miixed in
yesterday and it dropped to 40%.
OR
go buy the extended battery from verizon. It is on sale for $24.99. It only shows up that price after you buy it at the register or put it in your cart online. The sales associates will quote you $49.99 but it will drop i promise you.

How are you getting it @$24.99? Even after I add it to my cart it shows at $37.

I have the extended battery, but it seems a bit short on power... It will charge to 100% overnight (about 7 hours), but will still drop pretty consistently on moderate usage. Anyone have any ideas on how to get the battery to reach its full potential?
im at 6 hours and sitting at 90%
If you work in a hospital, put your phone on Wifi, it uses far less juice, switching from 3g to 4g and back can kill your battery.

I noticed that too. My stock sensation would last longer.

How often r u using your phone? Im at 70% with moderate/ heavy usage and its been about 5hrs. That's in 3/4g mixed. With juice defender. Battery life seems better today.

So, have you conditioned the battery? Sure, people will say you don't need to and I can see how "letting your batt run down to 0 then doing a full recharge" x 2 or 3 times will waste so much of your time. Don't do it then and you can keep complaining.
I laugh at folks that totally disregard this tip as if it were requiring you to disassemble phone or something.
I've done a complete drain down/full recharge twice so far ... 8 hours of "new phone setup and play time" and I just dropped to 70% (which is probably 75% with Motos stupid 10% batt gradient).
Gettin 4hrs with moderate/heavy use on 4g network. Not impressed
Screen brightness turn down all theway. Wifi off..gps off
2nd charge of day already.
Well to be fair, word with friends for some reason absolutely kills your battery. Remember when I used to play it my battery would drop 10-20% at a time.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
Remember also that Moto phones only show battery life every 10% (until you hit 15%) so if you phone reads 90%, it may in fact be 94 or 95%. It rounds itself.
The extended is the way to go....got 8 hrs with it showing 70%....that's with nothing set to conserve....and streaming Pandora Bluetooth about half that time..

Why can't the stock battery last as long as ip4, that's what I dont get. It sucks, I really like this phone but the battery is killing me. I will say that this phone has the best battery life of all the LTE phones.

Cell standby and phone idle eating 80a of my battery

So with my Droid x I could look at my battery usage and routinely see that powering the screen took between 80%-92% daily of my battery life. Big screen...made sense. 30% larger extended battery would last me 10 hours with moderate use
With the bionic, according to my battery usage. Cell standby takes 40% of my battery and phones idle takes 37%. Display only uses 6%. What the hell? So that's why my 2880mAh battery only lasts me 5 hours, with little to no usage for 4 of them. If i turn on wifi, the 3g icon stays (turned off 4g altogether since I only use data at work and it out of 4g range). And I will see it actively syncing many times even when I am doing nothing. Going into airplane more and back live again just makes it pause, starts syncing again immediately. Reboot and its fine for 3 hours then starts again.
What the hell? Do I have a dud? Should I do a wipe of the device a few times and hope it is a software glitch? Cause this is pissing me off that a brick extended battery won't even last me six hours. And I'm barely using it for 4 to 5 of them. Should I return it and exchange for another? Or return it and just get an incredible HD when they launch? Though that will probably have equally bad battery life. I am rooted and everything is backed up so a wipe won't take long to restore.
Also has been doing this since I got it 4 days ago. Have fully drained and fully charged the battery numerous time with no real change.

Well first of all the display on the Bionic is RGBW pentile which uses much less power than traditional RGB LCD's. So it makes sense that as the percentage of power consumed by the battery decreases the other things like cell standby and phone idle would increase. It has to total 100%.
That said if you only get 5 hours on an extended battery with light use then your phone is defective or possibly a third-party app you installed is misbehaving.
I am at nearly 15 hours with 40% left on a standard battery with 4G on and 1.5 hours of screen on. All I did was root and de-bloat (around 30 apps).
I have the extended battery and get about 12 hours of heavy video and streaming audio, web browsing, maps, E-Mail, texts & calls. This is split about 50/50 4G & WiFi. I have no idea how you're only getting 5 hours. That almost seams impossible to me. Like the above post says, maybe you have an app that isn't shutting down? I am not sure but something is DEFINITELY not normal
But if it was an app behaving badly shouldn't it show up on the battery usage log thing? I'm gonna wipe when my shift ends at 8 am and see how it lasts today with only Go SMS installed. If it is dead in a few hours again I know for sure its the phone or battery. If it lasts then I get to start the painful proccess of adding apps back one at a time until I find the culprit.
Thanks for the advice. 5 hours seems impossible to me too, but that is all it lasts. Freaking me out that it is eating so much. Maybe ill try the stock battery later. Maybe its just the battery that is FUBAR'd

You ran the Blockbuster app, didn't you?
I've read an article or two speculating about the possibility of a batch of Bionics with bad radios that chew up battery. Everyone I've read about that returned their Bionic for this reason has experienced a reversal in their battery experience. Sounds like you should do this as well.
Like the others, mine is like the energizer bunny until I start messing with games and streaming video.

Never. LoL I don't run bloatware.

Those with "bad" radios will obviously have a bad radio if their battery life is crap correct? My Bionic seems to do ok with battery life, but I still can't manage to get what all these other users are getting with the stock battery.
Maybe I'm a heavy user that's in denial of being a "light" user...
My battery life with the extended battery is amazing.

I am having the same problem. I am going to give them a call on Monday.
Fixed it. Ran the bootstrap app to get into clockwork. Did a factory reset a few times over to make sure it was all clear. Loaded only the bare apps I needed onto phone and battery went from 7am Sunday morning til 10pm and only lost 50%. XD so it was definitely an app playing badly.
I put almost all my 180 some odd apps back on with titanium. But any that do any kind of syncing I downloaded freshly and didn't transfer any data, started brand new there too. So far today unplugged phone at 2am at work, its almost ten now and its only fallen to 50%. Granted I have far more stuff installed now and wwas using it a bit at work. Not too bad. Want to see how much longer it will go

How long should the standard battery last with average use?
I unplugged at 6AM with full charge. Ran only 3G until 10:30am and was at 50%. My usage was nominal- few texts, no phone, few emails, about 10 minutes of internet, 30 minutes of Sirius.
At 10:30am I switched to 4G just to test the battery life. The phone mostly sat idle, but the remaining 50% drained in about 1.5 hours.
Does 4G really use that much power... even when the device is sitting idle? If so, then what's the point of making such great 4G devices if the batteries can't keep up?

damn, that's fast
with a regular battery, and going in, and out of 4g coverage mine will run from 8am to 11pm and still be over 50 percent, of course that's with light to moderate use
What is the definition of "light to moderate" use?

Were you getting that battery life from day 1? Today is day 4 with my Bionic. People say it can take up to a week for your phone/battery to calibrate, but I've never had to calibrate the battery on other phones.

roughly 20 texts, 5-10 calls, maybe an hour of Facebook throughout the day, a couple hours of web surfing, and maybe an hour of gaming

can't say for sure but I know my battery was lasting a hell of a lot longer than 5-6 hours from day 1
I have the extended battery. I get great battery life when playing games, streaming video, listening to pandora, web surfing and phone calls. I am in a 3g area only. But when it comes to just idle time it seems like its using almost twice the amount of battery life as my droid x did. My droid x with the extended battery would drop 10 to 20% while idle from 11:30 pm to 7:30am. My bionic last night, I went to bed at 11:30pm and had 80% with extended battery, I woke up at 7:30am and was at 40%???
Does that sound right?? Also when using wifi the battery drops faster, should it use more battery on wifi or 3g? I have never used any bloatware and have the same apps installed as my droid x.
I'm having the same problem with my phone. 5.5 hours of battery with little to no use. i have to keep my phone on a charger throughout the day.... a power charger. the phone will die if just connected via usb.
Have you guys calibrated the new battery? There is also a neat little calibration trick in the x2 forums, works like a charm.
Google "juhde battery" and it should show up. Can't recommend it enough...

Can you please post your battery usage statistics for Voice calls and Cell standby?
I'm interested to see where I stand also..
Thanks,
