I emailed HTC and Virgin Mobile Canada the other day, and they said this,
"Thank you for taking the time to reply. We currently do not have the information available to us. At this time the Incredible S's that are slated to receive the ICS update are the ones in the European regions. You may visit htc.com, twitter.com/htc and facebook.com/htc for update information as it becomes announced."
Virgin Mobile said this,
"You've reached ****** with Virgin Mobile! First, allow me to apologize for the delay in my response. Your patience and understanding are appreciated. I'm happy to escalate your feedback about the Android 4.0 update. I know this is important to you and I'm happy to point you in the right direction.
******, I've escalated your email to ensure it's reviewed. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback." This could mean that we
IncS users might see an Android 4.0 update! Virgin Mobile is BAD for updating their phones, but as you may already know, HTC has been working their hardest to work with carriers, and as VMC's update stated that they are happy to point me/us in the right direction, and will escalate it to ensure its reviewed!
Edit!: I emailed Virgin again, and they said that they are working very hard to get this update available! NOW im excited!

Good to hear. I'm with SaskTel which is in a similar vain, and even though I'm installing custom ICS ROMs anyways, it would be nice to see everyone get the update and move to ICS.
Though then, I'd have to stop joking that I'm in the 1%.
I rooted once, but i had to send my phone to get fixed, because it had a charge port malfunction, and they charged $200 to fix it because of the root access, so i am running all stock, which is why i am excited for VM to work out something with HTC

PCD, the primary HTC distributor for most ACG (Associated Carrier Group) members, released 2.1 for their Hero devices not too long ago.
http://pcdphones.com/our-devices/support/adr6250update
Anyone willing to take a shot at it? It looks like the only Specific builds are for Bluegrass, Appalachian, and Cellcom. Open Mobile and Northwest Missouri use ACG 2.41.556.1, the rest are ACG 2.36.556.1. Since my device came with 2.36.556.1, I didn't have the advantage of rooting it with 1.5. Someone told me to try unrEVOked, but mine isn't Sprint.
short answer is your boned. Try looking on craigslist or ebay for a hero thats on 1.5. Since the VAST majority of cdma hero owners are sprint i wouldn't hold my breath for someone to crack the ACG version.
I might be able to talk tech into giving me a unit still on 1.5 as a 'replacement' (that is if the tech crew isn't getting paid to sit on their asses and RUU all day), but I don't think I'll invest in a phone until I see something that fits my definition of badass. Thanks for the help!
I think that your best bet is a variation of the ADB recovery hack
http://www.unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php?id=public:adb_in_recovery
or something that stems from s0be's attemps at rooting the alltel hero:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=710483&highlight=alltel+hero

It would be amazing if someone could get this to work. I tried every method I could find on both this 2.1 version and the original 1.6 that came on my phone with no luck. I'd be willing to help, but to be honest I don't know how much help I would be...haha..

My carrier is a PCD partner and I have the ACG build 2.36.556.1. My Hero came with 1.5 and I ran the RUU to 2.1 when it was released. I then searched probably every forum known to man, and finally found a successful root method here on XDA. Here is the link:

OH MY GOD YOU ARE THE HERO...TO MY HERO!!! It worked perfectly! Finally after months of searching/trying every possible rooting method.... Thank you!

I'm takin' this s**t to Staples! That was almost TOO easy.. I'm currently on the Fresh ROM. Thanks!!
As it is the exact same method for the desire, evo aria & incredible, surely its the same for the legend?
Mod edit: XDA does not like spam. Nor sock puppet accounts.
Just got a reply from the unrevoked team that they need a htc legend to work on it. I suppose this problem arises due to the fact that legend is not available. If you need root ,they have to be provided with a handset to work with. Please check their twitter stream for more updates.

At least they are being fair to us...
unlike [email protected] who is totally ignoring our call.
If any of the NAM users out there can supply hardware , they say they can do it
tell him to go to a local store and say hes a reviewer form a website. they may give him a loaner for a few days or a week
Well its not that easy for reviewers as you say mate , you need to know which carrier in NAM is carrying the legend too
I guess my suggestion kind of sucked BUT!
If you checked out this thread

They said they'd try and get root but they don't have a legend to work with.
Maybe they could communicate with you and get something working?
Maybe even run some software that let's them use your comp via the web so they could technically use your legend but not have to be there?
Just a though but it could work

The whole virtual pc thing could work for anyone with a legend too I guess?
This is a route to root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=725430
Just wondering if anyone has an update from unrEVOked on this?
How can we bug them?
You don't really need them to root it for you good sir. Check the sticky in the legend android development forum. if you have 1.32+ ROM version, you need to downgrade to 1.31 then root. simple as that. if you're running 1.31, just root.
Thanks Joeball88 - am aware of that method however the 'one click' unrEVOked sounds so much more appealing. Knowing me I'd screw up the downgrade method, let alone actually rooting the Legend!
Not afraid of giving it ago but afraid of not being able to restore my Legend should something go wrong (the Legend community is a little quiet and its not guaranteed I'd get help if I posted about my bricked Legend!)
I'm gonna close this. XDA does not like Spamming, nor sock puppet accounts.
According to HTC, Gingerbread upgrade for Incredible S will be on June for Singapore.
"Dear Alexander,
Thank you for contacting HTC.
With reference to your query, Incredible S may receive upgrade to Android 2.3 in June this year.
Thank you for your continuous support of our products and services. Should you require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again.
We look forward to be of service to you again"
That's pretty slow, my opinion.
Better late than never? LOL
June....I hoping we got the update in April. I guess June is about right. These next 2 months the phone should be out there more in one variation or another in the Canada, the States and some more places overseas.
In my opinion to HTC's reply is earliest is June.

True ....
If it will be as with the Hero, then the update will be released at Christmas time, at best
This has alreayd been posted before:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1014937
and I'll say what I said there again. Customer services just give a generic date, until HTC make an official announcement, they don't know anymore than we do. I have already seen a couple of leaks of the GB rom floating about (nothing that can be publicly released or flashed due to NDA's) but I can't see any reason for it not being sooner
When it launches as the droid incredible 2 here in the states it will have gingerbread pre-loaded, so there would be no excuse to not have the INCs on GB before that, verizon ad's a ton of crapware to the device and not to mention cdma vs. gsm, we should get gingerbread before the Dinc2, at least I hope so.
I've seen similar posts but they're quite outdated now, does anyone know if the HTC One 64GB edition is available to buy sim-free in the UK ? I want the HTC One but not the 32GB version and don't want to have to wait for a few months to get one, otherwise I might just end up getting the S4.
Anyone know of any sites or places doing the 64GB?
Cheers
As far as I know, the 64gb models is only avaliable in Asian countries for now. It could be months until it's avaliable for the rest of the world.
The HTC One is only available in Taiwan, I'm not sure anywhere else has it in Asia.
The S4 is only 16gb with 12gb useable. Also that 12gb is all the space available for installing apps and games. The memory card can't be used for apps.
I got the 32gb One and will buy a 64gb when out. But surprisingly I'm managing just fine with the 32gb.

Dear Matt,
Thank you for contacting HTC regarding the HTC One.
My name is Ciprian and I am a Technical Support Agent for the HTC Written Team.
Regarding your question, for the moment we do not have any information regarding the availability of this mode on 64 GB, and you may want to check our website for updates, or subscribe to our newsletter. Also, regarding the Developer edition phone, I wouldn't suggest you to buy it, because these phones aren't built for the public, they are only for developers, and the phone won't have certain features, or it will be optimized for debugging/development, even though if it's unbranded, it will work in the UK.
I appreciate your patience so far, I hope this answers your question, and if you have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Hi , I'm pretty sure this is some sort of scam but I thought i'd check with you guys first.
Seems just too good to be true , on the site eonline stores they are selling the htc one 64gb for £402
That seems crazy as the only other UK seller I can find are mobicity are and its £720 (which is a bit steep)
Heres the link :

Thankyou for your time

any news for E.U. mkt ?
tks gio.
When I bought the 64GB DE, it was with the expectation it would receive OTA updates directly from HTC. Now it appears, at least one HTC respondent is claiming that because the bootloader is unlocked, it will not be receiving OTA updates. I hope this info is wrong.
http://forums.androidcentral.com/htc-one/272529-htc-one-aint-getting-no-ota-updates.html
Of course it will. HTC needs this phone to succeed. They wouldn't shoot themselves In the foot like that.
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
It will probably just get RUUs instead. It makes no sense to try and support a device with an unlocked bootloader when unlocking the bootloader breaks the system signature.
It should get updates faster than the branded carrier versions. Whether its via OTA or RUU remains to be seen.

Ok, I just got a reply from HTC a few minutes ago:
Thank you for contacting us. Robert, we understand how important this information is for you.
As the developer’s edition of the HTC One has its bootloader unlocked, it will not get the updates OTA (Over the Air). You can manually install it when available with the instructions found at http://www.htcdev.com/.
It is our responsibility to caution you that not all claims resulting or caused by or from the unlocking of the bootloader or installing different ROMS (A file which contains a copy of the data from a read-only memory chip) may be covered under warranty. We strongly suggest that you do not perform this process unless you are confident that you understand the risks involved. This is a technical procedure and the side effects could possibly necessitate repairs to your device not covered under warranty.
If further assistance is required, please let me know. As always, it was my pleasure to assist you.
Feel free to visit www.htc.com/ for important information about HTC, or contact us by phone at 1-866-449-8358 between 8am to 1am ET, 7 days a week for your convenience.
Have a nice day!

That makes no sense at all. They push the responsibility the bootloader being unlocked to the customer. No, it was purchased that way. I'm thinking David doesn't know what the hell he's talking about...
No, he's saying that if you want to get updates, you need to run RUUs. This is far from surprising, people need to get over it.
1. Using a ruu is far from a technical process
2. If you buy a developer edition phone it's implying you will be using it for development purposes.
3. Who still accepts ota downloads
Ok .. how l can download this update ? I can believe there ,, no update for htc one developer edition ! Why ?
That does suck. We too would like our updates.
I have a 64GB DE and I could not care less about OTA on stock rom. By getting the DE and hanging out here, isn't it implied that you would install custom roms? What HTC said that by getting the Dev Edition you'll have to install via RUU - it make perfect sense since if they were to push it out via OTA on multiple carrier's 3G network it would probably require agreement and fees. Just download it when it's ready, or better yet, use a good custom rom. I don't see this as a big deal.
I have no problem with downloading and installing updates from the HTCDev website. My only concern now is the timeliness of the updates. I hope we won't find that major carriers have released updates and we're still waiting for ours. Most of us that bought the DE do indeed plan to install custom roms. I personally wanted to wait a few weeks before doing so, but I guess it really makes no difference.
This is actually idiotic.
Shouldn't HTC give the choice to OTA update or not to the purchasers of the developer edition? You can always turn it off if you don't want it, but not providing it at all is dumb.
I am waiting for my developer edition to arrive. I bought this phone primarily for the good industrial design and in part for the low light camera.
I hope I don't regret it, if updates are few and far between (even the 4.2 update has been delayed and it will be out after 4.3 is already available). HTC better get on the ball, because the ONE is the last chance many consumers will give it.
