Hello guys,
Im trying to change some of the default system sounds (CM9),
they are located at
/system/media/audio/ui <folder>
although im changing 1-2 ogg files (just to check them) when i reboot (clear cache&davlink) the sounds are not playing at all, if i change them back to original files they play again normaly.
What am i doing wrong?
Even though you are replacing them with ogg files I guess maybe they're not encoded the same way. Try replacing one with the other (changing the names of the original files) and see if that works. If it works it's probably the encoding.
By the way, what kind of sounds are you changing? Other than notifications and ring tones I don't see what you could ever want to change... is it like keyboard clicks?
I have done this on cm7 and cm9 successfully. i got the iphone lock sounds as an mp3, renamed them to lock.ogg and unlock.ogg, cut and pasted them in the above mentioned folder, and done! there is an app in the market called ui utility, that's where I got the sound files. good luck.

I managed to tweak the registry and add sounds to change the keyboard sounds on my kaiser. I even downloaded some sounds from this site and am using the transformers sound as my default; but when I try and add my own wav files...No Luck!
I encode the wave files to the specifications as the sounds i downloaded and still no luck. Can anyone tell me what settings they use when they create wav files. I use Nero 7 as my audio tool but any info appreciated...Thanks
are you talking about the sliding tone?
if so
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > HTC > SlidingSound
Within this registry folder there will already be 3 folders numbers 0, 1 and 2. Highlighy SlidingSound then click on Edit > New Key. Name the key the next available number. Most likely this will be 3. Now you can either copy the three values from the other listings, or create new ones from scratch by highlighting 3 and clicking Edit > New String Value. They need to look like the following with the left values listed under Name and the right values under Data:
Default - whatever_name_you_want
in - filename1.wav
out - filemane2.wav
make sure you put the files into the windows directory. credit goes to "Bgrngod" on the AT&T forums/
this should do it, check it out: http://forums.wireless.att.com/cng/board/message?board.id=cingular&thread.id=72058
I've done this and it works with the wav files that I downloaded from the internet but the problem is when I try to use my own wave files, it doesn't work. What bit rate should I use or are there requirements that only work?
i'm not sure if there is a bit rate requirement, I've done it to 3 other .wav clip sets all with perfect results. upload your files, i'll give it a try, see if we get the same results.
Cool!!! Thanks.......it's all very odd that the clips of the same kind will not work.....Guess we'll have to wit
One last thing......what audio software do u use???
for clips from movies, i mostly just search the net for them. there are tons out there.
for songs and or audio files i have, i use mp3 cutter trial version and wma cutter trial. it only allows up to 30 sec clips on the trial, but my phone only rings for 25 seconds so any more is just taking up space.
source for the music is either cds, napster, or itunes.
Here's my wav files.....really appreciate this!
Alright i made a cab that does the registry changes and pastes the Default .wav files in the /windows folder. All you need to do is make the 2 sound files that you would like.
Name them:
Custom-in.wav
Custom-out.wav
In the settings menu there will be a new field under the sliding sound icon named "custom". select that and you should be good... ENJOY
http://rapidshare.com/files/79748184/SH4Y_Sliding_Sounds_Configure.cab
The cab worked awesome along with the defaults wav files but my wav files still won't play? Guess I'll try different bit rates......unless someone tries my wavs for feedback

Save them as a regular wav with windows sound recorder... I say a max of 2 seconds...
And the cab comes with e40 saying UGHHHH... hahaha
Have you ever been listening to your Britney Spears, Daft Punk or Tupac and suddenly you start hearing files that aren't music (i.e ringtones, notification sounds, etc.)? I find it pretty annoying that there is no current method to hide these files from the music player, until now.
I would like to give credit to Scheff's Blend for this idea, and after tinkering with the the doom game folder on my memory card, I found a file called ".nomedia". Within that same folder was over 100 sound files for the game doom, BUT my music player was not reading that specific folder.
I figured it had to do something with that ".nomedia" file, and coincidentally it DID.
Instructions:
1) Download and unzip nomedia.zip somewhere onto your computer
2) Inside is a file called .nomedia, copy it into the directory of media files you want to hide
3) Reboot your phone
P.S. This also works for pictures and video files, BUT for newly taken pictures and videos, or music files added, a REBOOT is REQUIRED to hide them again.
WARNING: this completely hides the files from the phone, so they become unusable to any application until the .nomedia file is removed, and the phone is restarted. I know Scheff's Blend found a way to use those files while hiding them, yet I haven't. If anyone wants to help me out, feel free to.
I know a lot of people wanted to know how to do this, so sorry to any mod who notices I double posted, but I just realized I should have put it in this forum section to begin with. Feel free to delete the other thread in the "Dream" section.
Right on.
Another option that works is placing files you want hidden inside of a folder that starts with a period, such as ".hiddenfolder" or ".stuffimhiding"
Files and folders that begin with a period are considered hidden files by the Android OS and do not show up in Gallery or the music app
Thanks man..
was looking for a way to do this..

Thanks, thats good to know. But can they be used by lets say the dialer.apk as a ringtone?
I do the same thing with Astro. Like Dave said, keeping a folder with a dot at the front and anything within won't be read unless opened by Astro or renamed. This may not work for the ringtones, but its quicker than having to reboot if you just want to hide photos, documents, videos, etc.
I have problem where videos in folder w/ .nomedia get deleted at each reboot... Now using Cyan 4.1.11.1... Really weird. Each reboot deletes videos in those folders

How can I add my own notification sound? I tried to copy one from my Nexus S, and placed it in
sdcard/media/audio/notifications (that's where it was placed on the Nexus S),
but it can't be found in settings on the HTC one. It's an .ogg file and I tried to convert it to mp3 but no difference. Any ideas?

Did you restart the phone? Android only looks for new audio files like that at bootup. The other option is just to create a new folder in the root of your SD card, name it ringtones, put your audio files in there and then restart the phone.
Good luck! :fingers-crossed:
At first I downloaded some sounds through dropbox to my device, and I couldn't get anything to show up in settings, no matter where i put them. So I tried to transfer the sound files through USB-cable from my computer and now everything shows up in ringtone and notification settings. Weird, but at least it works now

Hi Guys!
Hoping someone could help me out with customizing my Sprint HTC One. What I'm trying to do is to replace the original screen lock, screen unlock and low battery sounds with custom ones.
Now I did locate the folder /system/media/audio/ui and have found Lock.ogg, Unlock.ogg and LowBattery.ogg
I'm successfully able to replace Lock.ogg and Unlock.ogg and they work great. Now my problem comes with LowBattery.ogg. I can replace it with my custom sound but it doesn't have any effect. The same old sound still plays.
Now I've tried everything I could think of and nothing seems to work to get my custom low battery sound to play. Then I realized that the original LowBatter.ogg in the /system/media/audio/ui folder and the sound that actually plays aren't the same sound.
In the zip file attached are two files LowBatteryFile.ogg and LowBatterySound.acc.
LowBatteryFile.ogg is the original file found in /system/media/audio/ui
and
LowBatterySound.acc is a recording of the sound that actually plays when I get a low battery alert.
If you listen to them you can hear that they are different, LowBatteryFile.ogg is has a deeper base. So I came to the conclusion that LowBattery.ogg is not the alert sound that plays.
Does anyone know where the actually low battery sound file is located? Or how I can change the low battery alert sound.
Thanks a million!!
PS.
I'm also looking for the location of the "Pull-to-refresh" Sounds (the sounds that play when refreshing feeds and content) For example the sounds that play when refreshing the blinkfeed.
Thanks again!!
Hey.
I have the notification sounds from Nexus 6P, that I would like to use with the 3T because I have become very used to them. They are in .ogg format.
However it doesn't seem to be possible to just transfer them to internal SD and pick the sounds. The sounds does not appear on the selectable sound list.
Is it possible to use those sounds without having to root the device and place the sounds in the appropriate sound folder on system partition?
Best regards,
Hvilsted
You can't change notification sound to your own. You have to use one witch comes with your phone. Sms sound is changeable. Maybe with root you could transfer sounds to media folder and they could work. Haven't rooted my phone, so can't be sure.
Get Zedge, though its a spamming app its sure to have the 6p sounds.
I'm sure you could use ADB to replace the sound files with the ones you desire

Zedge would be the easiest way to do this. They have millions of notification sounds on their app.
Try to convert those sounds to mp3 format, then copy them to appropiate folders and check if they are visible in settings.
I assume you extracted them from Nexus 6P's system image?

Just extract files to ringtones and notifications folders
