Hi all,
I'm fairly new to the flashing world and need some guidance.
Current rom:
MODEL NUMBER GT-I9000
FIRMWARE VERSION 2.2.1
BASEBAND VERSION I9000XXJPY
KERNEL 2.6.32.9 root (at) SEP - 51 #1
BUILD NUMBER FROYO .XXJPY
Old Rom:
It was from vodafone, but i can't seem to find exactly what rom it is.
I had a problem with my stock SGS rom and was forced to flash it, but i now have a different rom installed on my SGS, the booting animation (for example) isn't from vodafone anymore.
And KIES doesn't recognize my current rom (for update), so i wanted to know how could i leave everything exactly like it was before. So that i could update to gingerbread the official way and still have a fall back plan.
One last thing, i used odin (v 1.3) to flash it, can i "safely" reverse from 2.2.1 to 2.2 (original from vodafone)? And how?
Thanks again for the help.
I'm very sorry for the long text.
Just use the wonderful & usefull searchbox and find this:
Rom list
Thank you for the reply, i've been on that thread, but still i don't know which is my rom and if the csc will be return to stock.
Thank you again
Sent from my GT-I9000
Stock is not the rom that came with the phone its stock Samsung rom .
You need to have saved your original rom or find somebody that did .
Your Vodaphone upgrade path through Kies will fail as you do not have a Vodaphone rom .
2.2 to 2.1 via Odin with pit 512 and repartition checked .Just use 2.1 rom from samfirmware .
May help .

Thanks for the fast reply,
Are there any special precautions or guides to revert from 2.2.1 to 2.2?
With the csc. (i've flashed before but i only had one tar file, nothing else).

2.1 revert from 2.2 just flash should be ok problems reflash with pit 512 and repartition checked .

Also dont be to scared of vodafone. If you have a stock Samsung android, instead of the Vodafone, you still have warranty. Only thing that can happen is that when you send your phone in, they'll flash a Vodafone rom back on and you'll be having all the vodafone crap back on it.
Really? That's the best news i've heard, since i had this problem. Thanks a lot, how did you know this?

The terms and conditions do not say you can flash any old rom and not break your warranty .
The position is one with a stock rom you may get away with warranty repairs but it will depend upon who you take it to and even the guy picking up the phone .
Samsung service centre and they may well repair .
Vodaphone service centre and its clear that they do not have too repair as you have broken your terms of warranty with Vodaphone .
So rule one is a back up of your original rom will nearly always be the safest path it also allows you to use the Kies method for official firmware updates if you want to revert back .

Experience: I messed up 2 of my previous phones (SE and HTC) due to flashing firmwares and brought them to T-Mobile and Vodafone, telling them the phone got stuck in boot. They took them in and when I got them back, they had Vodafone and T-mobile firmware on them again.
But as jje stated, its offcourse always the best to have a backup of your phones firmware. Its always possible some annoying Vodafone guy pops up, and makes a big deal out of it.
Thanks for all the input,
I never wanted to flash my sgs, but i screwed up the original rom and the phone didn't boot so it was my last resort.
Due to that i didn't make a backup.
In kies i have my rom as KOR and it says that i can't update, if i that *#272#imei code and put it in XEU, would it work? In theory.

Is there a way to download ROMs from the Kies server so that they can be flashed manually at a later date? I'm thinking that if I need it, I can flash back to the latest H3G branded firmware for warranty purposes.

I have a note CSC LA4 KOR. . does this mean my phone will never receive an update unless I root or change the coding and completely wipe all my phones data?
Kies says my device does not support updgrades and I read that I wont get push updates either? ..
Im new to android and I own a mac, so am I basically f***ed and stuck with 2.36 for the life of the phone?
or is my research totally wrong?
Thanks for any info. . much appreciated
I just did a quick google search and apparently if you know your way around a mac and it's terminal then it's possible to root and etc. As for receiving an update the new update was for Europe and since you have a Korean device you'd probably have to wait for a Korean update. I'm not to sure about Kies not saying your device doesn't support updates, I got off stock as soon as I got the phone.
Same problem
I am having the same problem
Just change csc lol, easy, search for it lol. Best to dl stock rom with csc of choice, flash it and then change csc

but doesnt that require completely wiping the phone? and isnt a PC needed to do that?
a user shouldnt have to completely wipe data to do a basic update. .
I had the LPY 4.0.3 yesterday and decided to go back to my original 2.3.6 GB
What I did was because my phone is the Hong Kong model (TGY) I went to SamFirmware site and under Asia I downloaded N7000ZSKK1
After flashing that on it still wasnt the right one as Kies still displayed that it wouldn't update.
But a firmware update OTA poped up and when I plashed to that I got my original GB 2.3.6 back.
So I tested it by connecting it to my windows PC and kies displayed that I had the latest firmware.
So my advice to you is you should look for the 3 letters in brackets under firmware and on SamFirmware site download the correct firmware for your device.
Mine was TGY for Hong Kong so yours will be different or the same.

From what I'm reading the KOR version will never recurve updates for some reason...can anyone confirm or deny this?...I don't mind waiting...
Hi... Actually same happened with me too... I bought ma phn from India and and took it to korea. And started using it on KT. But when i put ma phn on kies they said that this firmware is not supported vai kies. Before i didnt knew what tge heck is this. Then after some time i inserted indian sim (which obviously is not working here) n then restarted. Ma phone was recognised by kies n it come that YOU HAVE THE LATEST FIRMWARE. So what i understood was of u have the sim from where you bought ur phone(in ma case it was India), just insert it,restart it. N update or do whatever with kies or if dont have just download the correct and latest firmware acording to ur country from sammobile.com, put ur mobile on download mode (by pressing volume down, menu, power button in same time until the warning screen comes up then press volune up key) n by using odin flash that latest firmware. If you dont know how to flash using odin Just tell me. I will let you know. I hope this will help you.
Ps: for flashing no need of rooting and all.

Thanks for the advice. I will try it.
I bought my phone in Thailand. .but I believe it is a Hungarian model made in korea (the owners manual is in Hungarian). the back of the battery says made in japan/finished in korea?? .and now I live in Vietnam. .what a clusterf**k
I can do the odin thing but I dont own a PC (I own a mac) so it is not easy. Last time i did it it took well over an hour with downloads and installations.
Ill be in Thailand shortly so ill see if it will update with a Thai sim, but i doubt it as I dont think it is a Thai made phone ..
KOR doesn't mean Korea. It's for some European countries, and every Note will be updated.

Dont worry. The place you bought matters not the place where it is made. But i dont understand, Y ur phone showing kor. Are u using ur note in veitnam?? If yes then y its still showing korean csc. Anyway for mac there is heimdall same as odin. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755265.
not sure why its saying KOR when im in Vietnam. . I really dont understand any of this. . this is my first android.
Ill try to mess with it tonight and see what I come up with, but from what im reading people are saying KOR is not a valid CSC or its a generic CSC and will never receive updates. .
man this is all overally complicated to get a basic update that was supposed to be released in Q1.
thanks for all the help and advice.
Worry not cuz csc doest matter. Samsung phone are most hackable devices. U ll know how to deal with it. I also learnt all hacking with this device. Njoy...
success!!. . I updated to ICS using Odin and it was really easy.
My only difficulty is owning a mac and the use of a PC at work is very restricted, so i needed the IT guy to allow access to download all the drivers, kies etc. .
but when all is said and done if you own a PC it is a really easy process thanks to Dr Ketans tutorial. .

Hi,
After having changed usb port at the service, they also reload firmware to my note device. When I came home, noticed that Kies does not
recognize the firmware loaded by service.
The details from *#1234# are:
PDA: N7000XXLSZ
PHONE: N7000XXLSO
CSC: N7000OJVLSB
Build info: Thu Feb 14:01:51 KST 2013
From Settings --> about
Android version: 4.1.2
Kernel version 3.0.31-906407
Beaseband: N7000XXLSO
Build number: JZ054K.N7000XXLSZ
I dont remeber the previous frimware details, but it was recognized by Kies and I was able to upgrade if a new frimware arrived.
Further search leaded to incorret CSC and solution given was to type :
*#272*IEMI# and change CSC code for Turkey.
Did not use the last 2 digit which is / 01
But got error msg saying "Unkown application"
How to proceed from this point on ?
How can I change the CSC ?
Does 4.1.2 not allow CSC change ?
try this
and be ready for a wipe.
Thanks for the info, the problem is that, I dont want my phone as rooted. There must be a way withhout root authority.
Why *#272*iemi# does not work in my case ? I'm sure my iemi is correct and not entered the last 2 digit / 01 .
That code doesnot work since JB.

Hımm,
What about using Odin 3.07 and downloading Firmware : N7000XXLSZ CSC : N7000OJVLSB from sammobile.com ?
This will be my first use of Odin, and appyling firmware with it. Is it risky ? Does it cause any counter increase in Node ? ( for serviceability )
That should work.. Try flashing the stock firmware under csc tab. If that does not work then try the normal way..
Flashing stock doesnot increase counter..

Going crazy ))
Downloaded Odin and proper stock code from sammobile.com for my country.
Used Odin to upload my phone with the ( so caled) new code. ( selected PDA for all code ) Everything went poperly. The code updated with success ...
I notice, you said only CSC but I've chosen PDA for all code to be updated. Did not dare to check only CSC, sorry.
Phone rebooted, and I was expecting the problem to be solved.
But:
Kies still says : Your devices current firmwre version is not supported to update firmware via Kies....
Another interesting thing is that, all the applications are there . I thought it should be a clean start w/o any addtl appl. intstalled by me.
Can this be the clue ?
I'm stuck ..
What am I doing wrong ?
Flashing a JB rom will not wipe anything. It will retain your apps and data.
Check if the csc has changed or not. If not, then it's best to root and use csc changer. Then you can flash the rom again like you did to remove root.

The problem with root is, my note is still under warranty, at least for one more year. I also found Framaroot but it also violates warranty.
I think, the best way is to revisit the service dept of Samsung and ask them to reload the proper stock rom .
I didnt want to revisit service, since it takes too much time to get the phone back from them
JB does not support *#272*iemi#
The rom I found from sammobile.com for my country somehow not the proper one. pda: xxlsz phone: xxlso csc: JVLSB
Couldnt found what LSB stands for anywhere.
Looking stock rom for Turkey.
So, behave as a nice customer and visit the service dept Pitty ...
Hi guys i need your assistance. Here is my problem. Some 7-8 months a go i upgraded from stock 2.3.6 to 4.1.2 and then to 4.4.2 CM11,everything was working just fine (some minor random restarts and incoming call volume issues wasn't a big deal). The phone was locked to my GSM provider network and now i got a network unlock code from them. The problem is very strange, according to instructions i got from them (and all i found on the net ) should be very simple:
1. turn off mobile phone
2. insert different SIM card than accepted one
3. turn on phone
4. you will be asked to enter NETWORK UNLOCK code since it's a different SIM card, enter code and job is done...
BUT..i'm stucked at point 4....i do not get there where i should enter that network unlock code..i am able to read my IMEI,phone number etc. in phone status (noticed IMEI SV is 01 if that matters at all).
I even tried to revert to stock 2.3.6.and 4.1.2 rom and unroot phone it still doesn't help,is there anything else that i can do and i'm missing so far?
Thanks for looking into my problem guys,i really need to solve this issue.

Well..if no further solutions pop up's that's the last thing i can do i guess....just let me check: flashing back to stock 4.1.2 will not move binary counter (will remove root) and there is no way for them to know that i rooted/flashed phone before ? (warranty is expired 2 months a go but they have a legal obligation to unlock the phone for me...)
Thx for answering anyway..

It will not increase binary counter. Unless you already have it increased before, rooting GB perhaps. Go to download mode and see if it is increased. You can use Triangle Away to undo it, there is free version for XDA members.
P.S. Flashing stock JB firmware and factory reset brings your phone to state like you just bought it. No root, and they can't find out that it was rooted.

Hi guys,
I know there are many similiar threads to this one and I'm sure I've read most of them. Either my issue is different, or, if the answer was in one of them, I was too stupid to realize it.
With my S4 Active GT-I9295 I had to go back to stock ROM for the Samsung S-Health and Gear related apps.
I came from spegelius' (absolutely awesome) Google Edition for SGS4A (int'l) v0.9.9.-od2 and flashed the Samsung Stock 4.4.2 with Odin (*). The procedure was: Flash -> Factory Reset -> Flash again to be absolutely sure all files are updated. Currently, I rooted the phone.
My problem persists:
After a reboot I (usually; not always) am able to make normal phone calls.
After some time (sometimes minutes, sometimes hours) I no longer have sound.
I do not hear ringing, the callee can't hear me, I can't hear the callee.
Same problem if I'm being called
Establishing a connection though works always.
Mobile Data is not affected.
WiFi works
Also observed after factory reset -> re-flash, only enter WiFi PW and Google Login Data -> try phone call
I know this problem often arises from a baseband/modem mismatch. So I investigated my CWM backup of the pre-installed 4.2.2 ROM.
That's what was pre-installed:
Bootloader: I9295XXUBMK3
CSC: I9295OXXBMK3
Modem: *I did not find the info in my backup*
This corresponds to the Romanian 4.2.2: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/22586/I9295XXUBMK3_I9295OXXBMK3_ROM.zip/
That's why I flashed the direct successor http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/37083/I9295XXUCNI1_I9295OXXCNI1_ROM.zip/
PDA: I9295XXUCNI1
CSC: I9295OXXCNI1
MODEM: I9295XXUCNI1
I tried everything I could find online, nothing helped. I am really running out of ideas. Is it possible to go back to 4.2.2 to see if the problem persists?
I do have logcat logs of the radio module before and after the problem occured. But its thousands of lines. If it helps I can upload it!
Thank you guys for your help
(*): I did some intermediate flashing of several other firmware versions (especially different baseband / CSC versions of the same 4.4.2). But I assume this does not affect the result. I used Odin v3.07 & v3.09
Edit: PS: I still think that I might have the wrong CSC Version. I know the 4.2.2 PDA/CSC matches, but I am not from Romania. I'm actually from Germany. And what makes me wonder is that I cannot select the German Keyboard Style without downloading it first. I can't remember doing something similar after unboxing the phone and setting it up for the first time.

Although I did the things basically as described in that posts I have a new question:
Which country is relevant for the search on sammobile? I mean, do they ask me "Where do you live" or "For which country was your device produced?".
Edit: Okay actually they ask me for the 'product code', so it's probably the latter question.
I realized that my 4.2.2 PDA and CSC also match the French version. That would match the language of my original packaging. I already flashed the French 4.4.2 once but heard only noise when calling someone. So I gave up on that one quickly. But I'll give it another shot now.
Is it possible that I had a factory installation of the firmware for country A, and when I first registered with my local carrier I received a modem update OTA for country B?
That would really surprise me. But it could explain my issues, since there is no 4.4.2 for o2 Germany, i.e. I probably wouldn't receive another modem update OTA.
(I never looked into the carrier specific firmwares because I figured they are for sim-locked devices.)
If the above is true, I understand that the only option would be to somehow downgrade my device back to 4.2.2.
I know I'm asking a lot of questions that have been asked and answered elsewhere. But by now I tried so much and nothing worked that I'm really confused and need your guidance.
I know I type too much, so a short summary.
Everything I tried so far didn't help, the stock ROM from sammobile.com doesn't help, currently I'm on 4.4.2 XEF (France)
I'm 80% sure I have the firmware for the correct country
From factory-side I definitely had an XX PDA and OXX CSC, so shouldn't all XX/OXX versions work, even if not the exact country?
What should I try next?
Is there a way to uniquely identify the country code from a backup of the /system or /data parition?

I am not sure if you have done this, but one thing I always recommend is a phone factory reset from settings (not CWM/TWRP) when you are on stock firmware as this is known to correct a lot of issues caused mainly due to faulty partition / corruption. However beware of the fact that this will wipe your internal SD card therefore back it up before you do that.
If you have flashed the correct firmware for your country & carrier (if it has a separate one) where you are using the phone, and done the above then I do no see any other issue than a faulty IC that requires replacement

Yes, I always did a factory reset. Most of the times I even flashed the firmware a second time after the factory reset. (This was recommended somewhere else.)

Now that really helps me! Thanks. BUT: There is a seperate firmware for my carrier. However, I did not purchase the phone from that carrier. That's why I never tested the carrier specific firmware. Moreover, there is only the old 4.2.2 available, so I can't test it, since I cannot downgrade.

Tried it and it didn't work; completely crashed my Phone Application. It rang on the other side, but no conversation was possible. Is this because of the bootloader / modem mismatch?
Does anyone have instructions to safely downgrade to 4.2.2 again? Should I open another thread for this discussion?

Tried it and it didn't work; completely crashed my Phone Application. It rang on the other side, but no conversation was possible. Is this because of the bootloader / modem mismatch?

Identify the bootloader version and Knox state:

Knox is not a counter - it's a like a fuse.
Hi O-T,
the bootloader is I9295XXUBMK3 and it does not yet have the warranty bit which I assume you mean by KNOX state.
Are there maybe any new ideas?

There's 3 stock 4.2.2 TW ROM I9295XXUBMK3 to choose for flash by Odin. All have different Germany CSC (Carrier Specific Code) - Generic, O2, T-Mobile. PDA=MODEM=I9295XXUBMK3 for all of them. Not sure if O2 or T-Mobile versions are locked, but they usually have operators bloat apps.
Remember to power OFF before entering download mode, flash ROM in Odin, factory reset.

Your choice.
O-T I'm so sorry. My post from yesterday was a lie; I can't read my own OP. :crying:
I9295XXUBMK3 was preinstalled
Now I'm on I9295XXUCNH2, which implies 4.4.2 and makes a downgrade to 4.2.2 impossible (afaik).
Please note that I already tried the generic German (4.4.2) firmware. I never had operater bloat apps and I bought a simlock-free version of the device. Thus I never tested the o2 / T-Mobile ones. (I did, however, once flash the o2 modem over the generic 4.4.2, which turned out to be a bad idea).
I would love to extract the modem info from my CWM backup. The bootloader / CSC strongly suggest I have a French phone, but the modem would ultimately clarify that.
What is your opinion on trying a different custom-ROM? I never built one so I have no idea from where designers obtain their NON-HLOS and modem files. I know many don't come with any of those and require an already working ROM before flashing so these drivers can be kept. On the other hand, Darkman's StockyROM has an additional modem pack.... which, in my case, didn't help.
I simply cannot believe that it's a hardware issue. Everything worked fine until the update to 4.4.2 and new radio drivers should be thoroughly tested before distribution.
