So today i was clearing out some stuff, after deleting all the apk files i downloaded.
i went to the system folder. i see this folder named App, i went in it, i see all these Apk files, so i thought they're just the file you use to install those applications. so i selected all, then deleted everything.
Then, a lot of things popped out, and this one wouldn't go away, it says Android.Phone stopped working. so i took my batteries out, and rebooted it. But it just shows the LG logo, then the loading, then starts over again.
I tried Volume Up + Power key, it just showed a the rest box thing, but after a bit, it just restarted the repeating process.
And i can't connect my phone to my computer because you have to set the USB mode on, while the phone is on.
ANY help?. Please. three year contract, and i have no clue what to do.

try the nvflash method to flash a stock ROM....by the way have you rooted your device?on custom ROM?have u a backup if you are rooted?
check in the dev thread if you bare rooted and want to flash the nvflash...
hope it helps
You seem to have root, because without you could not access the system folder. To get in the recovery menue you need to push and hold power + vol down(!) on your off-switched device. From there, restoring a nandroid-backup would be the easyest way. If you didnt made a backup, you can get back to a stock rom with smartflash and nvflash but you will loose your data.

I don't think he has CWM, Only a rooted device so it will be hard for him to get his /system back without any Backup...
Try NVFlash method or Smartflash, located in the Android Development section of this Forum.
I fail to understand why would someone be messing in the system folder without having a full backup

I have tried that, and got CWM now, i don't mind losing all my data, but. Is just that i've gotten an external SD card from one of my old phone, and i put a ROM on it. But I can't seem to find the External SD card anywhere on the phone. _ExternalSD has basically nothing in it. Anyway to get it?...
I rooted my phone before i deleted the system files. But does it matter now that I wiped everything?.....AHHHHHHHHHHHHH
OMG i fixed it, i mounted the USB, then put the ROM in the internal SD card, THANK YOU GUYS

My hero is stuck on the HTC (white screen) reboot, it keeps looping every 15mins or so, until the battery dies.
I tried to go into FastBoot (which keeps flashing, the screen turns on and off), but I can get it to go into fastboot USB if I hold down the "search" button (and the screen stabilizes too)
I flashed the stock rom, but that doesn't help. I even tried to clear all the data by doing, home + back key.
Did I truly brick the phone? I even swapped memory cards to see if it would help, but no luck there.
Any help would be GREATLY apperciated.
Thank you!
I'm still pretty new to the rooting and flashing stuff (I've had my Hero for less than a week) but I ran into the same problem and was able to get out of it. If you have an external card reader that you can use, it would help greatly, because that's how I was able to add data to the SD card without having to access the phone. Turn your phone off and remove the SD card. Plug it into your reader, then into your PC, and add a custom ROM directly to the root of the card (i.e. - NOT inside a folder) like Fresh 2.3.3 or anything else you want to use (I used Fresh because I couldn't get CM6 to load). Put the card back into the phone and boot it into recovery mode (hold the HOME button whole powering it on). You should be able to access the ROM and flash it from there, just be sure to wipe first and backup at some point. Hope this helps!!
Did you completely wipe the phone (data and dalvik) before flashing a new ROM? If you didn't wipe the top 3 options (data, dalvik, ext3) before flashing a ROM, this may be what's causing your bootloop.
Bricking the Hero is very very very hard. Unless you flashed a GSM radio, you're pretty much safe
Go back into recovery, wipe EVERYTHING (except SD), flash original ROM, it should work.
Where is your dalvik cache btw?

@jordanjackthomas
I tried to do what you said, I extracted the zip file and placed its contents in the root of the SD card, but when I tried to boot up into recovery mode, It was still stuck on the HTC screen.
@chromiumleaf
I don't think I have, but how would I be able to fix that issue if I didn't?
@derekwilkinson
Luckily, I have a copy of my SD card, So I still have it, if it would be any use?
@Big-O-Devil
I have been flashing the stock RUU for days now, and its still stuck on the same issue, (i just did it now, just to be sure, again) and will leave the phone on, till it dies basically. that way I know that I know I waited for it to boot...

Don't extract the zip file. Just copy it to the root of your SD card. Hold down the home key + the power key to boot into recovery. If that doesn't work, try to using the volume DOWN button + the power key. Then press home when the screen loads up. I'm sure you know this, I'm just making sure you didn't forget anything.

I'm gonna have to agree with Big-O-Devil here, stop trying to do it through recovery and just use the RUU from HTC/Sprint
@derekwilkinson
I have been doing that, I've tried to use the HTC/Sprint RUU and its still the same. I've been flashing the .5 RUU and .6 RUU, but none of which have helped. They are all still stuck in the reboot loop.
Is my hboot version correct?
My device does this when I boot into hboot..
"It also does a SD card check when it boots up onto this screen, says something like
herodiag.zip
etc etc"

Ok so flashing doesn't. Work... look for the stock ruu program that restores your phone back to the its original 2.1.. it's a program that does everything for you... if it works you are going to have to reroot again and start from the beginning.. let me know......

From your recovery menu (holding Home then pressing Power to turn the phone on) there is an option called "Wipe". Select that one, then there are 5 options within that. Do the top 3 of them (data, dalvik, ext3). After that, push your Back button which brings you to the main recovery menu. Then select Flash zip from sd card and go through the process of flashing whatever ROM.zip you have on the root of your SD (the whole .zip itself, don't extract all the files out).
If that still doesn't cure your bootloop problems, then you need to download the stock RUU (you can find it at this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6686401&postcount=2). This RUU is NOT the same as nfinitefx45's STOCK ROM! You have to run this RUU through HTCSync on your PC. But try the wiping that I recommended above first....then do this RUU if that doesn't work. Know that running the RUU will remove your root access, so you will have to re-root again after it's done.

+1.. that should do the trick for you... good luck....
I apologize, I wasn't using the correct terms.
I don't currently have the phone rooted, I have used the Sprint/HTC RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_2.27.651.5_R_signed_release(2)
file to "reset"(if you want to call it that) back to stock mode...but that doesn't do anything, it still is stuck in a reboot loop.
So currently, I dont have any options other than the default when I press "home" on the phone while turning it on. It just automatically clears the data when I do that.
@Big-O-Devil - I have used that file in that post before, and It doesn't help the situation. It is also stuck in a reboot loop.
@YoungSinema - If the file is different from the STOCK RUU, the "exe" that runs...then I would love to try that out. I went ahead and sent you the pm just incase.
Try running the RUU again via HTC Sync on your PC while your phone is turned on and during the bootlooping.

I bricked my CDMA Hero. I rooted it with the super one click, and installed a early version of froyo, and had some issues with it. I wanted to get it off, so I used CWM recovery, and formatted everything. Now when I turn it on it goes to the HTC opening screen, and stays there for hours until the battery dies. It will charge, but my computer doesn't recognize it, and it will not boot. What can I do?
Bricked means it is a brick and that is it, your phone still turns on so the good news is that it is not bricked.
Need some more info before anyone can help:
1. You reformatted everything using clockwork recovery
2. Did you re-install a new ROM?
3. Did you restore a nandroid backup?
I would recommend booting into recovery and wiping everything (factory reset and dalvik-cache) in recovery, then reinstall froyo - once you are booted and running you can figure out what you want to put on it. At least your phone would work then.

I'm also pretty sure your phone isn't bricked, as long as you can still get into Recovery, it Most Likely can be Fixed!
I also Recommend trying to Wipe Everything, then Reinstalling a New Rom, Also as a Suggestion... If it were me I'd Probably Choose a Different ROM to install! My Very First ROM I Flashed was a Cyanogen one, and I had Trouble with it Booting Also!!
Try LiquidSense... its Only 2.1, but its Stable, It Boots Fast, and just plain out Fast as Hell!
You can always Switch to Whatever you want... Once you get your phone back to a Working Condition!
Good Luck!

I cannot get it into recovery now. It will turn on, but it stops at the initial HTC screen, and stays there until the battery dies. When I connect my phone with my computer, the computer recognizes it, but I can't seem to get the 2.1 exe from HTC.com download to the phone. My guess is I wiped the thing clean. Unfortuneately, I didn't back anything up.
I can't even get into recovery, it just sits on the HTC startup screen until the battery dies. It does recognize when I connect it to my computer, but running the 2.1 exe doesn't do anything.
Can you adb into the phone and flash a recovery?
I think that would be a helpful start.

Pull the battery, hold volume down and power and you should boot into bootloader. I believe it is *home* to get you back into recovery. Then reinstall a new rom and you should be good to go.

Just a matter of waiting right now.

If he can flash a new recovery, or even just adb.. then he can start rebuilding it.

You'll want to grab a recovery, and try to connect to your phone via ADB when it's on.
Then do adb shell
then : flash_image recover [name of recovery].img

Ok, I can get to the CWM recovery, there is no backup files, no recovery files, and no files on my sd card. I cannot seem to get an opperating system on. I mounted my phone to my computer and downloaded .zip files, but it still says no files available.
How do I flash a recovery, I can't find any files anywhere.
i have .zip files on my sd card to flash, but when I try to apply them it says no files found.
Ok, I have been working on this all day. Thank you to every body who answered. This is the situation as best as I see it. I can use the power and the down volume buttons to go to recovery mode. I have ClockworkMod 2.5 and can mount my computer to my sd card. It appears that I don't have an opperating system at all, or anything else on the phone. I have downloaded several .zip files and tried to install them, I can mount them, but when I try to apply them it states that there are no update.zip files on the sd card. I have deduced that I need an opperating system for an update to work, but I could be wrong. I am having a hard time finding the right files to use to get my phone to go. It seems salvageable, but I'm not sure how. People have sugested a couple of Mods to instal, but I don't know how to do that with what I have. CWM is asking for a update.zip, or a recovery.zip, but I don't know wich one at which time, or even how to get it to flash. That is what I think I know, but that is subject to change depening on what you all know.(showing just how foolish I really am) Thanks again people for you time and advice, I really do appreciate it.
Don't select "install update.zip", select "install zip from SD card" or whatever the option is called.
I've tried that too, it seems like all the software is gone. HTC, Sprint, Google, and Android. Does anybody have a download they think will work. I'm at the point to try anything.

What software are you talking about? Sprint, Google, and Android what, specifically? A download for what?
Mount usb storage in recovery, put rom of your choice on there, and flash?
what about kernals, how do I know that I have everything I need?
ROMs generally have kernels in the zip builds already. From the sounds of it, you're kind of lost at what you're doing.
Do you have a SD card reader? if so, plug in the SD card to your computer and pull over a ROM zip, like Cyanogenmod or whatever is to your liking.
Then in recovery, go to "install zip from sdcard"
go to "Choose zip from sdcard"
then search for the ROM zip you put on the sd card.
State exactly STEP BY STEP, what you are doing. Your phone is perfectly fine, you just dont have a ROM on your phone, which is why you cant boot. You're not missing kernels, or anything, you simply dont have the baseline of a ROM on your phone yet.
Post back
I don't know where or how to find a rom, I have heard good things about cyanogen, but can't seem to find where to download it. Is ClockworkMod a rom, and if so how do I use it. You're right, I got way in over my head, and now I just want my phone back the way I bought it. What is your favorite rom, and can you give me a link. Thanks again everyone.
I installed "Battery Icon Mod v1.01", applied the mod, restarted, and I do see the AT&T screen, then I see the Galaxy moving screen, and after, I see the black screen, and nothing else, and I feel the phone vibrates (almost the same way, when the program crashes). I need to get back on the phone somehow, without restarting from scratch. Any way without loosing all of it?
Can you get into recovery with battery pull and up + down volume + power?
If so try reflashing or flashing a different battery mod and see if it works

Looks like youre running stock recovery which = stock ROM. How did it even flash without failing verification? (not asking you, whoever else)
IMO you're hosed and need to odin back to completely stock (everything is lost) Unless someone else can think of a way to fix system files with stock recovery
I did flashed my phone with froyo 2.2 when I got the phone, and it was back in September or something. It was also rooted, so maybe that why it allowed to mod? I'm not too good with the phones and stuff, as i am more of a computer IT.

If you're really in IT you'd know that information is key to solving any problem. Stock 2.2 or a custom 2.2 ROM?
What I was trying to say, is I am not good with phones, and phone software and stuff
If you had usb debugging checked , you can use adb to push your original framework back to the phone. If you did a backup you can just install the backup. Otherwise your only recourse is to reflash the rom.
no i dont have any back and stuff. is there anyway to get the SMS? or my MEMO's?
You can flash a rom through odin...does not have to be stock...it will not wipe the info you have saved on your internal sd or external. if you sync your contacts with google gmail it will return all your contacts.
With that said, you will lose any programs you downloaded and installed unless you have them backed up (titianium back-up, etc).
It's not the end of the world, your phone will live again...
Just a thought...why not take this opportunity to flash one of the excellent custom roms in the development section?
This is why you will be backing up from now on...if no adb debugging then i dont this you can do adb pull or anything so .just flash another rom bud.we all make mistakes .yours isnt too big of a mistake tho. Sorry

as long as I can keep my data, I'm not worried about loosing my applications, I can always reinstall them. I remember I tried to flash Froyo 2.2, and it took me forever to get it done. Could someone point me to a good ROM (preferably 1.2OC) where I can keep all my data.
Nope. You're pretty much out if luck with no backup. If you were on stock 2.2 then the reason you're in a bootloop is because you tried to install a mod to your framework that only works in deoxed roms.

i guess the solution is to clear cache and factory reset ...
but u will loose ur data....
No roms will delete your internal SD card unless you do a master clear. Without pushing your framework back and having no backup all your data (SMS, memos, call logs) is gone. No way around it. Flashing with Odin still deletes your user data.
can somebody point me to the best 1.2GHz rom?
That's in the kernel. Which can be swapped out on any rom, I believe there is one for stock froyo.
Im kinda confused, I've been googling and searching this thread, and not sure what I have to do next. How do I began from scratch? What do I need to install the very first image? Where do I get it? First try to turn off the phone, with the phone OFF, press "Vol-" + "Power button" until turn ON.
You should be in Android Recovery Menu, select "wipe data/ factory reset" and press "Power button", next screen go untill the middle and select "yes" and press "Power button". After that just reboot.
If everything went good should be enough, otherwise you need to re-flash.

The OP probably was asking for a way to regain control of his phone without the need to lose any personal data, as the factory reset will surely do. Unfortunately you are right, that is the last step before having to manually re-flash the original firmware and it's the only solution available to him now.
But a bit of advice, in case something similar happens again in the future. Just like with computers it's always advised to take a backup of your important files before tampering/tinkering with the software. And there are many ways right now to do this. We have CWM recovery (thanks to Dexter) which can be used for backup purpose, on the Play Store, there are also apps like Titanium Backup and the new Titanium Media Sync that can accomodate easily and simply all your backup needs.
We have CWM recovery (thanks to Dexter) which can be used for backup purpose, on the Play Store, there are also apps like Titanium Backup and the new Titanium Media Sync that can accomodate easily and simply all your backup needs. well, im really lucky, yesterday i wanted to use deodex & remove stock apps script, and i made an backup in CWM first, as i havent removed it, and i went to bed, and in bed i started removing some stock apps, if i reflash the phone (hard reset wont work) will the internet storage be removed ? if it doesnt i can just restore the backup right?, then i will backup all the games and other data, and reflash 10G (maybe) or just 10f, as i have deodexed it at backup
If your backup was on the external sdcard, as its always suggested, I dont think it will be deleted, but for the sake of certainty remove the memory card prior to trying anything. If the backup is on the internal sdcard, then it will be deleted (I speak from personal experince since my phone also entered a bootloop and the only solution was to re-flash the official firmware) - quick and painless if you the guide correctly.

If you want to backup a system image, then only CWM can help you. If you want to backup certain files/apps/settings there are a number of ways and programs to help you with that: LG's own backup offering, Titanium Media Sync, App Backup Pro, etc...
Hello, today I was using my phone just like usually, when I arrived home I've put it on charge. After I noticed that it was rebooting, and even after it was almost fully charged it keeps rebooting.
I tried to uninstall some apps, clearing the system cache partition in the Recovery menu, but nothing.
Before trying to do a hard reset, I would like to backup the data on the sd card, but since the phone reboot in about 1 minute after, it is impossible to do something.
I tried to read the sd card on the pc, but it keep asking to format it. And now that I've put it back in the phone I can't see the images :crying:
Ps: I've been able to recover a few photos on the external sdcard using SkiSoft android toolkit, but I discovered that i also have photos on the internal sdcard, but It just recover a few pictures, probably because the device keeps rebooting.
Is ther a way to try to backup/explore those folders keeping the phone in recovery mode, since when in this way it do not reboot?
