I want to start off by thanking everyone that's put time and effort into making CM9 and the different roms/kernels what they are today. I'm still fairly new to flashing roms and such, only been doing this since CM7 for the Touch Pad and I've got it down for the most part.
I've kept up with the CM9 nightly build and just yesterday I flashed the update-cm-9.0.0-tenderloid-20120320-0800-signed.zip build. I did so by downloading the zip, rebooting into clockworkmod, and installing the zip. I then wiped the Dalvik and rebooted. All works fine with that.
I used the same process to install gapps-ice-20120317-signed.zip and all works well. Finally I tried to flash the update-lcd_density_120-nightly-eyeballer.zip and it flashes just fine but my app store stops working after that.
Am I doing the process in the wrong order or am I using a wrong build file somewhere? Any help is appreciated.
The app store (Play Store, Market, whatever we call it now haha) won't recognize the device if you change the dpi. There are a few workarounds you can find on rootzwiki. I'm not exactly sure what to do since I've never changed my dpi, but I know I've seen a lot of talk about the workarounds there.
There shouldn't be a problem using 120 dpi. Try clearing cache and dalvik-cache in recovery, and also remove data for the play store app.

I'm at a loss for words. I went ahead and did as you suggested and that had no affect, the play store still just flashes up real quick and closes out. I reflashed the 3/20 build without flashing the dpi update and the play store isn't working in there. Perhaps I need to start fresh by wiping the entire thing?
If you have a nandroid, you should be ok. You can always go back to it.
Try wipe/delete factory reset, wipe dalvik cache, then flash the Rom and the gapps. I also flash the gapps fixer, just in case. Once you're up and running, you should have market again. I use a dpi changing app (free in market) to adjust it. This worked for me, I hope it works for you.

Is it ideal to wipe dalvik cache between each Rom flashed?

I am running Gigglebread 7.0.2 on my T-Mobile N1. I am getting ready to go to Italy for a few weeks and wanted to see what would happen to my phone with another carrier's SIM. So, I inserted the AT&T SIM from my work blackberry and had some issues, but got it working after the APN was sorted out.
When I swapped the T-Mobile SIM back, all of my Google accounts had forgotten their credentials. I rebooted once just to see and no change. So, I thought, easy, restore nandroid from earlier in the day. The restore went fine, no errors, no wipe of cache or dalvik only now I appear to have no gapps (no market, unable to add google accounts, shortcuts on desktop don't work). Again, no problem. I've seen this before so I wiped cache and dalvik from CW 2.5.x recovery and installed dta2sd (sometimes it helps) and then 20110307 gapps. Reboot and still no gapps functionality.
So, I brought out the bigger hammer (after a couple of tries at gapps install) and wiped data/factory, dalvik, cache partition, restored nandroid, reboot. Still no gapps. Repeated the same wipe, restore nandroid, install dta2sd, install gapps, reboot. Still no gapps.
Now I'm getting desperate. Less than 72 hours till plane leaves! I next changed to AmonRA recovery and wiped, various nandroid/gapps/dta2sd combinations and still no gapps functionality.
Switched to CW 3, yeah, I know... And wiped cache, dalvik, factory/data, and even formatted system. Various installations and it still refused to install gapps.
I next tried the CW 2.x factory/data wipe, dalvik, cache, and then installed Gigglebread 7.0.2, dta2sd beta4(like always), and gapps 20110307 and rebooted. As expected, sterile phone, touch android, and then I'm prompted for google account. I skip that and sure enough, market is back and I can add google accounts.
AUGH. Unless someone has a suggestion, I'm probably going to have to do a full reinstall tomorrow. I've been wanting to do it, but not this close to a trip.
On a side note, is it normal for a swap of the SIM card to wipe out my account settings? I will make sure from now on that my TI b/u is up to date.

Infuriating as it is, especially as you must have so much to do already, a re-install might be best at this point. Trying to troubleshoot and avoid doing this could just mean more wasted time in the long run.

Yup, already on that path. I fell asleep last night or I would have finished. I did manage to get a TI backup of many of my apps (gmail especially) so hopefully I won't have to set those back up again since I'm using two-factor auth on all of them (10 accounts) and don't want to go through the process of invalidating and recreating the app specific passwords again.

I am also facing the same problem now.
I was on Cyanogen Mod 7.0.3 when some application weirdly started building up data on system storage. There was only 16 KB of space left and it became un-responsive. So I restarted it, only to find the looping Cyan logo.
Fortunately I had a backup from 15 days back, which was CM 7.0.2. So, I flashed that and I thought I am back. But, I found Market was not working, in fact it was not even showing up in the app list. Also, Contacts data was wiped out and when I tried to check out the account and settings, google account option itself was not showing up.
I tried flashing 7.0.3 + latest gapps package using Rom manager, that did not work. I tried a clean wipe and flashed 7.0.2 from my backup, no effect. Then flashed latest gapps again, no change.
It is frustrating now. It looks as if google is not supporting my device anymore.
Any suggestion is welcome.
Did you check md5 from your gapps package?
You said you were using ROM manager so I suppose you are on cwm but are you on cwm 3.x or are you on cwm 2.5.1.4? If your on 3.x then downgrade if not then maybe try Amon-RA with temasek system wipe maybe just making a clean install of your recovery might fix it.
Also you might want to try flashing from recovery instead of ROM manager. Just for the fun of it.
Might also need to partition sd card again as CWM 3.0 probably fubar it.

Market is now google play. Look for the play icon and use that. Here's the link to the Gapps :
http://goo.im/gapps
Install it again if you still have problems.
Yes I am aware that Google play is now the market. When I press it, screen kinda flashes and that is all. I have the 0429 gapps, and have tried to use older gapps also with the same result.

Try unistalling then installing it again. If that doesn't work, wipe/delete factory reset, wipe dalvik cache and install the rom again. You can restore your data using titanium or cwm. Of course, make a nandroid backup, just in case.

I had the same problem with aokpcb, but nothing worked so I just nuked everything, and did a fresh install.
I believe on the rootzwiki thread for the official nightlys there is a link to a flashable "gapps fixer" that might be able to help you if reflashing the rom and gapps doesn't work.

Hi,
I am really frustrated, after a factory reset of SlimBean 2.8, which rebooted to often, I have the described problem on my Nexus S.
I tried the above ... one of the steps of the first method described the change of DPI, I guess that is the first value you can change in the "developer options" > "LCD density" to a higher DPI ... reboot and other steps ... didn't work. The second method with clearing cache and dalvik then reinstalling OS and Gapps rebooting, then clearing data of play store and service ... reboot ... still same problem.
Then I installed the latest playstore from an APK file ... after that it tells me my device is not supported (tough it used to run on the device).
If I can't fix this, I'll switch to Cyanogen or stock possibly ROM, though I really like the SlimBean features.
Any further clues before I do this?
Thanks & regards
Joe
Hi,
i've installed evervolv on my touchpad (2013.11.02 nighty).
I have done a clean install, and haven't restored anything.
Everything was perfect until i decided (the day after) to update my rom.
I did it with the included updating tool. After the reboot, my wifi bars were grey, and it was impossible too run google play.
So i flashed again gapps. No result. So i've deleted google services cache, google play cache...... no result
I restored my last backup (2013.11.02 nighty) : it worked perfectly. So i decided to install the update manually : wipe cache, wipe dalvik and apply zip in CWM. Same problem.
So i re-did a clean install of the last updated rom, and everything worked. another update? Grey wifi! F..k!
To resume : everytime i clean install Evervolv everything is perfect, everytime i update evervolv (manually ou automatically) i have grey wifi bars and non google play.
Do you know anything i can do?
Sometimes you just gotta accept that a nightly build won't work for your purposes and move on. Either keep the old version or try a different rom.
Do you clear the caches as part of the update?

Yes, cache and dalvik
I've tried flashing slim rom and paranoid Android and all do the same thing. As soon as Google apps are installed the Google voice search prompt pops up repeatedly. It disables calling and also all sounds. I have turned it off in Google settings best I could and it still keeps happening. It has essentially made my nexus 6 unusable. And since I need the Google app I don't know what to do. Anyone seen this problem before? I am guessing it is not rom specific as it happens on all I have tried. Help severely needed

When I flashed a different ROM there were always issues when I did not a wipe in TWRP recovery (factory reset).
I have cleared data and cache along with a system wipe. Any thing else I can try to wipe?

In TWRP there is a message about wiping.
When you did that it is OK.
Effect should be that after booting the new rom, you need to completely setup the device again (setup wizard).
When there are still issues it could be a corrupt download.
I'll try to be more clear here.
I have done a factory reset (system, data, cache, dalvik) from TWRP.
I install new rom (chroma, paranoid, slim, and a stock build)
Boot up phone, complete setup wizard.
"Listening" prompt from google voice search starts popping up repeatedly, over and over no matter what I am doing on the phone.
I disable google voice search, doesn't matter, continues to pop up.
In the meantime it disables all sounds on the phone and I cannot place a call/take a call.
Again, this is the same actions that happen regardless of what rom I have installed, even after doing the reset.
Try changing the GApps package you flash after your ROMs.
I'm guessing you've been using the same GApps with each ROM you listed. Download another GApps and use that instead in a clean flash of a given ROM.
Good luck!
(One more thought: You could try clean flashing a ROM with a built-in GApps and see if that works...)

There are two important options in TWRP.
WIPE and FORMAT.
You have installed several different roms. The memory could be messed up.
A format could help.
The last suggestion I can do is: back to stock.
Flash a factory image.
Leave bootloader unlocked.
Check if the issue is gone when the stock rom is set up.
Than choose a custom rom, start with Chroma.

What do I format? System? It doesn't seem to be a Google specific problem as even with Google not installed the phone just hangs up when I dial a number and sound doesn't work. It went away on its own about an hour after start up and I've been good for a week. Now just this morning it started doing it again. The volume turned itself up a notch and boom no sound on video can't call anyone. It's very strange, and must be a deep rooted issue as it is across all roms. The only difference with Google now installed is the listening prompt popping up constantly. Without its just what I listed above.

Revert back to stock (e.g. with Wug's nexus root Toolkit), leave bootloader unlocked. Then reflash your things and see if problem persists. If it does, try TK GApps and don't install Google App (per gapps-config.txt).
