Hi,
I am really frustrated, after a factory reset of SlimBean 2.8, which rebooted to often, I have the described problem on my Nexus S.
I tried the above ... one of the steps of the first method described the change of DPI, I guess that is the first value you can change in the "developer options" > "LCD density" to a higher DPI ... reboot and other steps ... didn't work. The second method with clearing cache and dalvik then reinstalling OS and Gapps rebooting, then clearing data of play store and service ... reboot ... still same problem.
Then I installed the latest playstore from an APK file ... after that it tells me my device is not supported (tough it used to run on the device).
If I can't fix this, I'll switch to Cyanogen or stock possibly ROM, though I really like the SlimBean features.
Any further clues before I do this?
Thanks & regards
Joe

[Q] Quick CM9 question

I want to start off by thanking everyone that's put time and effort into making CM9 and the different roms/kernels what they are today. I'm still fairly new to flashing roms and such, only been doing this since CM7 for the Touch Pad and I've got it down for the most part.
I've kept up with the CM9 nightly build and just yesterday I flashed the update-cm-9.0.0-tenderloid-20120320-0800-signed.zip build. I did so by downloading the zip, rebooting into clockworkmod, and installing the zip. I then wiped the Dalvik and rebooted. All works fine with that.
I used the same process to install gapps-ice-20120317-signed.zip and all works well. Finally I tried to flash the update-lcd_density_120-nightly-eyeballer.zip and it flashes just fine but my app store stops working after that.
Am I doing the process in the wrong order or am I using a wrong build file somewhere? Any help is appreciated.
The app store (Play Store, Market, whatever we call it now haha) won't recognize the device if you change the dpi. There are a few workarounds you can find on rootzwiki. I'm not exactly sure what to do since I've never changed my dpi, but I know I've seen a lot of talk about the workarounds there.
There shouldn't be a problem using 120 dpi. Try clearing cache and dalvik-cache in recovery, and also remove data for the play store app.

I'm at a loss for words. I went ahead and did as you suggested and that had no affect, the play store still just flashes up real quick and closes out. I reflashed the 3/20 build without flashing the dpi update and the play store isn't working in there. Perhaps I need to start fresh by wiping the entire thing?
If you have a nandroid, you should be ok. You can always go back to it.
Try wipe/delete factory reset, wipe dalvik cache, then flash the Rom and the gapps. I also flash the gapps fixer, just in case. Once you're up and running, you should have market again. I use a dpi changing app (free in market) to adjust it. This worked for me, I hope it works for you.

Is it ideal to wipe dalvik cache between each Rom flashed?

error 492 when downloading

all of a sudden when i go to the market to update my apps it starts and then returns and error 492.
i have been on overcome 4.0 for almost as long as the rom has been out and i am using overcome 4.0 kernel just as long.
this started happening yesterday and i have not been able to download new apps or update existing apps.
any idea how to fix this.
i have wiped davlik in recovery. i have cleared all cache and still not luck.
any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance
I am also experiencing the 492 error on the Play store. I am using a Wildfire S flashed with Cyanogen Mod 7.2 and the latest version of the play store. So far I have tried:
-Clearing Cache Partition
-Clearing Dalvik Cache
-Fixing Permissions
-Clearing data/cache for Play store and google framework
-Factory reset and repeating above
-chmodding left right and centre
The error occurs both when updating and downloading new apps from the market. I can still install APKs via ADB and the file manager.
I've tried everything I can think of, and google my laptop to bits on the issue and none of the solutions I have found offer anything that I haven't already tried.
Can anybody think of anything missed? The only thing I have not done is reflash the ROM.
Cheers
Mark
I reflashed Overcome and everything was fine since 7/14/2012
today i am getting the error 492... again and apps will not download or update.
does anyone know why this is happening?
its very frustrating

[Q] Play Store Crashing

So I rooted my friends X8, and flashed a custom rom two weeks ago. The only problem was the Play Store crashing (he also has stock kernel because as far as I'm aware newer X8's can brick if you try to flash a kernel), I've only installed ROM's with stock kernel support. I've deleted Dalvik Cache and Cache. I've flashed that same ROM twice again, it would work for a couple of minutes, then start bugging out again. I've tried a different ROM, every time flashing following the standard procedure, full wipe before install. I've tried downloading the newest gapps and flashing them (while wiping cache). I've also tried downloading the market .apk, the new one, some of the older ones, nothing. I've tried wiping Play Store cache and data, I've tried wiping cache and data of other Play Store "sub-applications", like some market helpers etc. Some of these worked, but only for a couple of minutes. The last time what I did was I changed the theme in the theme chooser, which worked for an entire day. But it happened again. I tried installing a different home launcher, no dice. Has anyone encountered such a problem/found a fix/workaround/solution?
What happens is, you browse the playstore normally, but if you try to download an app, it stops mid download, says "android.process.media has stopped" or "android.process.*playstore or something like that, cannot recall it correctly* has stopped"
Android version is 4.0.4.
Please, does someone know what to do? Every other thread I've seen, I've tried everything they recommend, didn't help...
Android 4.0 is not so much stable for stock kernel..
So it would be better it you flash gingerbread on it...

Already done that, same problem. Is it an installation problem or hardware?
Flashed a new custom rom, still experiencing the same error, could this be a hardware issue?
Can you help me please? Flashed 4 different custom roms, I even flashed back to c-rom mix 17 now and installed the updated play store, still same problem!

[Q] ROM'ed Phone, Factory Fresh, No ClockworkMod No Google Play

I ROM'ed my phone with CynogenMod 10.1.0 RC3. When I did that I got a "failure" message when I attempted to install GApps (I think it was a partial download). I continued with the ROM anyway. But now I have essentially a Factory fresh phone but I don't have Clockwork Mod or Google Play installed.
So how can I now install the correctly downloaded GApps? I also don't see how to go back to my previous ROM.
I ROM'ed my phone because I was getting the ("unfortunately, .... has stopped") for many programs again.
The problem is also that if I go to Google Play (in the browser on my phone or on my desktop PC) I can't install any of the Apps I had because they are "already installed" and anyway I don't have the Google Play downloader on my phone.
Help.
I sideloaded ClockworkMod ROM Manager.
(System Settings / check "Unkown Sources" to allow them; dowloaded the .apk and opened it with FileManager)
Used that to get ClockworkMod Recovery
Booted into Recovery and ROM'ed CyanogenMod and the correctly downloaded GAapps.
I now have a happy phone.
The real question is why these "unfortunately, .... has stopped" error messages keep coming back even after I ROM and do
- Factory Reset
- Clear Cache
- Clear Dalvik cache

Could be because of the Gapps package, I've had that problem before.

Okay, but how to I find out if GApps is the problem, and if it is then what do I do?

Try do a flash just without gapps, see if everything works then. If everything's fine, then flash in gapps. See if that causes any problems.
If that does cause problems, then I'm not quite sure, a fresh install fixes most problems...
