Always this problem! - LG Optimus 2x

Hey,
I just installed a nieuw rom, i made sure i got a TI backup on my sd card.
now if i want to restore my apps it says i have none?
How can i fix this?
Grtzz

Also happened to me i pressed the menu button and pressed preferences in there should be an option called backup location (I'm not sure as mine is not english) then you press detect and it should find all your backups

maybe your new rom use different SD card as /sdcard
if cm9 , you should check on 'settings' ->'storage' -> 'storage configuration' -> 'use internal storage'

Using auto-detect like vcrp94 suggested is way easier.

[Q] Problem finding applications installed on phone after 2.3.3 update

I just updated to 2.3.3 (JVH) through Kies, and I couldnt remember me having any lagfix option activated, but the phone got stuck at bootlogo, so i installed fugumod-kernel, and got the phone booting, but it gives some error in CWM saying that it cant open or mount cache/recovery/...
Also under "Mount and Storage", only "System" is mounted, I can mount the others, but after I reboot the phone, they are unmounted again. While in the phone, if I check storage option of the phone and SD-card, it says its 1.81gb free (as if its been a wipe) but I did not do a factory reset by myself, and also if you check under "Manage Applications" you can see all my previously installed applications, but they all have "SD" written in bottom of the pic that shows a SD-card aswell, and they take 0.00B, if i press on any of them for clearing data/move to sd card etc, under "storage" it says "Installed on device(Default)" and only thing that is pressable is "Uninstall".
I also tried to reinstall one of the applications, that I have the actual apk on the phone and it says:
"Replace application
The application you are installing will replace another application.
All previous daa will be saved."
Chosen "Install" and the application installs and is shown as properly in applications, so can be started, but also with "SD" in "Manage Applications"
I do not have any external SD-card so only been using the internal one for spacing atm, and had all my applications installed on phone, and none on internal SD-card.
Anyone know how to get back my applications?
Thanks in advance,
-Edici

[Q] KF1 - SD card vs. Phone vs. USB storage (Issues w/ Default Installation Location)

OK I have rooted KF1 and I am confused about the storage mediums. I want my apps to install the the phone by default and not my microsd card (because its faster and widgets work). So while investigating it i came across some discrepancies.
1. Under "Manage Applications" the microsd card is referred to as "USB Storage". I can manually more apps from "USB Storage" to "Phone".
2. But, under "SD Card and phone storage" the internal phone memory is denoted as "USB Storage" while my microsd card is referred to as "SD Card".
What is going on. I do think I left my microsd card in the phone when I installed KF1, but I've never had this problem before. Any suggestions other than reflashing (because I have everything nicely set right now).

In my opinion, since you're concerned about where your apps and widgets are located, pay more attention to what it says under "Manage Applications".
I agree that it's a little backwards to use the USB Storage monicker to refer to two opposite situations, but as long as your applications are showing up in the right place in the "Manage Applications" dialog, you should be in good shape.
If you're really worried about it, un-mount and remove your micro SD card and make sure all of your apps and widgets still show up in "Manage Applications" - if they do, you're in good shape. (In my experience, you usually have to get an application that moves apps/widgets to the microSD.)

All of my apps are installing to the microsd card. I have to manually move them to the phone storage after they install. I thought that the phone storage was always the default. I want to fix it but I can't find how because every time I search for it I get the opposite, people wanting to move from phone to microsd and set that as the default.
Perhaps as a test you could try removing your microSD card and trying to install an app. See what happens, and maybe an option will come up to change the default install location.
I have no idea if this will work, but it's something to try.

Installed two apps. Without the microsd card it installed to the phone. But right after that I installed the microsd card and it reverted back to the USB storage.
Something else to try, if you have access to ADB, is this command:
adb shell pm setInstallLocation 0
(see this page for reference on that command).

didn't work, but when I tried to use adb i didn't get the usual "shell started" display. The phone is in debugging mode, I even restarted. The shell worked fine once, and now it won't work at all.... ugh.
I even tried "setInstallLocation 1" to force the phone instead of auto. I am going to try "2"
*So far no good, should I restart after I set install location.
** I've tried everything. I even installed an app that sets the install location and not matter what it still installs to the USB Storage.
try rebooting to recovery mode (if you have CWM) and starting adb from there like this:
adb root
adb shell
and make sure you have the # prompt, not the $. If you get the $ prompt, you can try using "sudo" before the command.

There is no CWM for KF1 yet, but I will try your commands in recovery.
*Update: ADB didn't work in recovery (no CWM yet), so tried while in debug mode. sudo didn't work, but got the # prompt with su. Tried to set the install location and still no luck. The applications still install to the microsd card.
At this point, I think my only option is to reflash the ROM (without the microsd card installed).
Sorry I couldn't offer a better solution. Hopefully the reflash will fix things. Just make sure you Tibu first, and your restoration shouldn't be too painful.

I'm on Cognition 5 Beta 2 (that is based on the Leaked i897uckf1)...
There is an option under Menu/ Settings/ Applications/ "Preferred location"
Do you have this option ? If so, ur choice is there--- "Internal memory"
Not sure if after u choose that option u would have to reboot for it to take.

It doesn't matter whether you had a microsd card installed. I removed microsd +sim before flash and also ran the adb shell from command prompt... didn't seem to make a difference.
Let me know if someone finds a fix for this!

I believe i'm having the same issue described by OP, and i am running Cognition 5 v2 stock kernel, but I do NOT see the 'Preferred Location' setting anywhere.
Help?
The install location setting was present in Cog 5v1, but did not function properly. I have not personally installed v2, but I believe the setting was removed for this reason.

CyanogenMod - Install Location

Hi, I've been using GingerDX v022 (and Alfs v08a kernel) for quite a while and I'm happy with it but one thing bothers me.
Sometimes when installing large apps with low internal phone memory left the system still tries to install the app on the phone leaving me with like 4 MB of internal memory and then I have to manually move the app to sd card using the application manager. I would prefer Android to install apps to sd card by default (while still letting me move them to phone memory when I want).
In CyanogenMod settings I found two options that I find somewhat confusing. One is "Install Location" and it allows me to select sd card, which is exactly what I want but here's what I find confusing... The option "Install Location" is right next to "Allow Application Moving" and even though I have "Allow Application Moving" unticked I can still move apps to sd card. Are these two options related to a different system of moving apps to sd card (e.g. to a separate partition instead of the .android_secure thingy)? Because I still want to use .android_secure and I'm not sure if "Install Location" option might somehow mess it up.
Long story short: Does "Install Location" in CyanogenMod settings work with Gingerbread's built-in moving apps to sd card?

Yes it does.. How do you find Install Location confusing? It's sort of self-explanatory, isn't it?
I thought "Install Location" might have been a subsetting of "Allow Application Moving" (and "Allow Application Moving" some completely alternate app2sd method). Now looking at screenshots I see that the English tooltip under "Allow Application Moving" says "Allow moving of any application to external storage" while the Polish translation says something like "Allow moving applications to external storage" and omits the word "any", which kinda changes the meaning.
So I'm guessing "Allow Application Moving" simply bypasses the block that some apps have on being moved to sd card?
Not sure that's the case at all..
It just facilitates being able to use the sdcard as an install media. That's all..
I changed "Install Location" in CyanogenMod settings and it didn't really do anything. Some apps still install in phone memory while others on sd card, like before.
Soo... Does anyone know how to make this option work?

The question to your answer is: Some apps are movable using native apps2sd and some apps are not (that is indicated actually in the info of the app, seen in links2sd, you can see an sdcard icon on the right and says that it is movable, if there is no icon, it is probably recommended that you don't move the app using native apps2sd). If you want to move apps that are not movable using native apps2sd, use links2sd.
No, that's not the case. The apps I'm talking about ARE movable and CAN be moved using the built-in interface but they install in phone memory by default and then have to be moved manually (using the regular Android app manager, not some brute force method). I don't want to force apps that normally cannot be moved to sd to install on sd, I want the movable apps to choose sdcard as the default location.

I don't have such issues with GingerZaraki or FroyoPro..
I set to Automatic..
Okay, then let me rephrase the question. Does anyone KNOW if "Allow application moving" in CyanogenMod settings needs to be turned on for the "Install location" setting to work?
And to clear up any confusion, I didn't mean that all apps install in phone memory, just some. The thing is... the decision isn't up to me and I would prefer it to be my decision.

I know that when Allow Application Moving is turned ON that it works..
Now I tried with both "Allow Application Moving" On and Off, and I installed Ustream app from Android Market for test. The app still took ~9 MB of phone memory instead of installing on SD card as the "Location" selection in CyanogenMod would suggest. Meh...
Any idea of something like a terminal command that could override the default install location?

[Q] Can't do Nandroid backup to ext SD Card

Can anyone tell me why ROM Manager Premium v5.0.2.4 won't allow me to select Use External Storage for a Nandroid backup? The option is greyed out. I've tried to contact the dev twice but they haven't bothered to reply so far.
I'm running out of space on the internal sd card and would like to use the external.
Thanks in advance

if you are on xxls7,you should have philz recovery.
boot into recovery mode. go to backup and restore.
2 options there
1. backup; by default it backups up to ext sd
2. backup to internal sd; as it says.
use it manually.
Many thanks once again for your help. That worked fine and I can see the backup file on the ext sd card. Wonder why PhilZ couldn't have labelled Option 1 "Backup to Extenal sd" but it's fine once you know.
I'm still keen to know why I can't choose this option in ROM Manager. Some posts I read said it works as long as the ext sd card is formatted for FAT32 which mine is. What I like about RM is the ability to initiate backup and restore from the menu (assuming the phone can boot of course). Some criticisms of RM/CWM suggest it's getting out of date. Maybe this is one reason why.
At the risk of testing your patience, can I ask you
1. do you know why the time portion of the file is incorrect "2012-11-22.14.36.33"? I did this backup at 22:30 so assume it should be "2012-11-22.22.30" which is what I'd expect with RM? The time on the phone is correct.
2. Why the app says "No sd-ext found... " when it's actually backing up to the ext sd card? I see a similar message when using RM.
Sorry to keep coming back with more questions. I'm extremely grateful for your help.

Titanium backup extSD access issues

Hi everyone,
I recently purchased my LG G4 after finding that root had finally been unveiled! I transferred over my microSD from my Galaxy S4, which was running a v4.4 ROM.
Now, Titanium backup can read the card and restore backups, but it states the external_SD cannot be written to! Specifically, "This folder is not writable." This is using the Filesystem storage provider. I can change the "filesystem" over to Documentprovider, which then makes the SD directory writable, but there is NO protect function available on specific backups. Of course, I believe this to be a Lollipop issue.
There should be a way to have both, right? I've tried changing permissions on directories but have not gotten Titanium to recognize the folder, through the standard filesystem, to be writable.
I'm having the same issue that you are. I haven't had time to try these suggestions yet but go to the link below, on the second page they start talking about a script that someone made that will run every time your phone boots that gives proper permissions. Another person said that they had luck with Xposed Module. Unfortunately I won't have time to try any fixes until the weekend:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2349460
I used the SDFIX application by Nextapp and it seems to have worked.
Here's how I granted Titanium Backup permissions to access my sd card.
1) click on menu button
2) click on Preferences...
3) click on Backup folder location
4) click on "Storage provider: External Storage (click to change)"
5) click on DocumentProvider storage
At this point, you may have a menu saying Open from. If so, click on SD card. If you don't see anything, hide the Open from menu (swipe left), click on the menu button at the top right and click on show SD card. At this point, click on SD card and navigate to the folder you want to grant Titanium Backup permission to write to. The select button is at the bottom of the screen. Hope this helps.

You are correct! Thanks!
I looked at that app, but was wary because it mentioned KitKat but not Lollipop by name.
Anyway, I ran the app, gave it root permission, and it did its magic. I rebooted. Success!
Now, in Titanium Backup, it will detect the external_sd card as writable now. However, you HAVE to use the "Filesystem" storage provider in order to get the 'protect' function open. The "filesystem storage - Ext SD card" will work (whereas before it would not write to the directory) but you still don't have "protect" functionality.

This gets it permission to access + write, but I did not see a 'protect' option on my backups when I selected them.
Nextapp worked for me.

I did this guide some time back to fix the media write permissions when kitkat came out for the first time on CM11 and submitted the fix to cyanogen. This still works with just a line editting. Is you guys like me that prefer to fix the problem editing a file instead of isntalling an app to get it done then this will be the thread to go http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2524277

Thanks for the link. I haven't run stock ROMS in quite a long time, so having limited SD access was a new phenomenon for me despite having been on KitKat for a few years.
"FolderMount" from the play store also fixes this.
thanks
