ok bud after a lil googling i found that the check mark means that the network is ready but not in use...i e you got your wifi on....since our phones dont say h+ and say 4g it just means that you have a connection with HSPA+...
try and turn wifi off and the enable your mobile network and the check should be gone

Thanks dude I was just curious I had not notice that icon before. May be because now that we get throttled I use more WiFi to try and stay untrotled.

Data and signal color changes

Curious, anyone know why sometimes the data and signal bars are blue and sometimes they are white? Thought maybe it was signal strength or active/dormant difference.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
i noticed that too. i would think that whatever is blue is what you are using. if you are on a wifi it will have the wifi icon blue and the 3g or 4glte white. i am not 100% sure but i think thats how it works.
Blue (green in aosp) means a connection to google services.

That explains it. Thanks. So why would one one to know this information while using their phone? So much that there would be a status indicator for it.

well i would think that it has something to do with the new data plans having caps. im sure that they want to make people as aware as possible as of when they are using data from the verizon network or a wifi.

This is a feature that's built into android from gingerbread on. It serves several purposes, but the immediate purpose is a tell-tale sign that something may be up with your connection.

Well, since so many features on Android phones depend on synchronization with Google's servers (Gmail, calendar, etc) it's usually good to know if you're connected. It also lets you know when something might be wrong with your data connection even though you are apparently connected to a network.

Any way to switch off lte??

31mbps is nice!! but i have lte at work and home and my battery is getting killed! I'm on rumraiders beta11....any way to switch between lte and hspa manually???

Sent from my HTC Raider X710e using xda premium
I've searched...so any elaboration would be awesome...i can get into my apn settings, but there has to be an easier way than to rewrite the apn every time...
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using XDA App
i n the network settings i have GSM/WCDMA/LTE or GSM/WCDMA I set mine to the second option and can't be bothered.
When i do it in network settings, it goes right back into lte auto

It does not retain the Selected APN. It automatically reverts back to LTE.
Hmm it should retain till it looses signal at least that how I saw my device behave.
The other option I can think of is use build.prop editor app and turn off from there. May be I should try to write my app for this .

App would be awsome.. I was using 4636 code on my aria and had no issues. For some reason , vivid does not retain it.
I have been looking for a rom that has the option open to select the preferred network type. I need to select gsm sometimes while troubleshooting the network and my modded aria would let me select the network type. It was loaded with cyanogen and I am wondering if I will have to wait til the cyanogen mod for the vivid is released to get control of this function. Having the ability to lock the phone into a select technology is very helpful when testing a cell site.

im looking for the same option too
but on stock ics vivid rom
Im using an app from play store called LTE OnOff and it serves the purpose.
I hat the option by default, but found it is also available in the app 4g test. Even allows to restrict to only lte.

internet with tmobile

Hey guys someone offered me a samsung captivate for 50 bucks n it looked nice but its At&t and im a tmobile user ..................so even if unlocked the highest speed internet i can get without wifi is only 2g and edge right...........
P.s will that be enough for facebook/netflix?
thanks in advance
Edge is what u will get.
Facebook....yep, but probably really slow.
Netflix...i would say nope, because of the slow data transfer speed.
But in the end, it is whatever u r willing to tolerate.

As he said very slow. I used my captivate on Walmart family mobile which is powered by T-Mobile and it made me want to gouge my eyes out it was so slow... But they did throttle data speeds on that plan so you might have better luck.
Also if you decide to try it anyway and are a brave soul when it comes to tinkering there is a thread somewhere in here on a DIY unlock for the captivate. I can verify that it works as I've done it myself but I suggest backing up your efs folder first.
I have the thread bookmarked on my PC so I could link it for you later if you're interested.

I'm going ahead and picking up a Vibrant pretty cheap tonight so I don't have to worry about it. Who knows how long it may be before everything is 3G? My Cappy can be a backup.

I find it intriguing on why would you post on the development section instead of the general as a question? There is a setting called Wi-Fi tethering in the settings, don't use any app.
i know its out of order but I've broken my right arm and hand.
dont have my laptop and did nit realise it was in the wrong thread.
cant even type.....

There is the Tethering & Mobile Hotspot under settigs and it works. If you cannot enable it, the reason is false insettings under APN. Check it and add supl and dun to APN type if you doesn't have them already.

What is LTE RAM dump?

I did the shortcut *#*#4636#*#* and there is an option to enable/disable LTE RAM dump. What is it and is it better on or off?

So I just wrote this whole thing two mins ago but wow imagine that a freaking "RAM DUMP" and all is lost!! So ill keep it short I been running 4.1.2 and have S-off and aquired it with moonshine along with supercid of "11111111" (now I changed cid to HTC__001) AND running deoxidized app and framwork and 4x5 Rosie landscape. I have found that going back to S-ON and relocking bootloader then unlocking again(haveing to aquire new unlock_code.bin everytime) stopped the annoyance of RAM DUMP MODE...if anyone has a workaround or solution I'm all ears...I haven't tried disableing lte yet but about too...thnks in advance and will report future findings...
Dont turn off lte ram dump as network connection freezes after 5 mins and one should have to disable data connection and then re-enable that connection to get speed, if it is not done then it will show net is connected but you will not get speed.
