Flashlight - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,there are many gestures with the Note but I heard that you can turn on the flashlight while the phone is locked just by shaking it? Has anybody done this?

I don't think this would be a good option... what if we keep in our pocket and run??? device definitely bounce and flash on !!!!.

I think you are talking about the flashlight application in the market (not the torch widget that comes with recent upgrade - LC1 I think).
The flashlight app has a (configurable) feature whereby you can turn the light on by pressing the power or menu key to get to the unlock screen and THEN shaking the device. I do sometimes use this - as if you are doing something like a DIY task and you need light quickly with your hands busy it's the quickest way - one button push and a shake.
Havng said that I have found several times that when in my pocket, I've accidently pressed the power key and my walking motion has then turned on the light - spotted by a rather strange white dot shining through my jeans!

Pocket Dialing again :(

Just got the diamond2 and am loving it. Came from the touch pro. Problem is I have been pocket dialing while its in my leather case. This is not good, as I am a real estate salesperson and it is calling some important people. Does anyone have a solution? BTW, I was using touch lock pro on the touch pro.
Thanks!
hi lorettaboy
you should lock the kets by holding the end call button for a few seconds and that should sort your problem out
I forget what it's called but there is this locking software that will completely lock the phone if you rotate it around the long axis one way and unlock if you do the same the other way.
I have been using throttle lock though. It is like the Android unlock screen where you draw patterns.
If u press the power on/off button for a second, the screen goes off.....isnt it ok to avoid your problem?

I think what may be happening is that the power button is being pressed while in the case unlocking the phone and keys. I had this happen before and still does sometimes when in my pocket.

Hoping wm6.5 features a lock that's as functional as S2U2.
I personally use http://pocketshield.netserver01.com/ It locks your phone when its closed, and you have different ways to 'wake' it. the 3 that I set it currently is:
1. if the phone is in the case (aka dark) it will not unlock even if phone is ringing, but once you remove it from the sleeve/pouch it will be unlocked.
2. If its night time and the above prevents you from unlocking in the night, shaking phone left to right once will unlock it
3. lastly if I take out stylus it will unlock.

Googled it, light sensor lock sounded interesting, tested it. Never got the light sensor unlock to work. Had to keep tapping the lock button for a varying number of times to unlock. But worse: got catch-22-ed twice within ten minutes.
The first time I got caught with the screen on, the 'turn off' dialog active, and Touch lock Pro active but not clickable because of the turn off dialog. No way to unlock the device and the power button was hijacked by Touch Lock Pro. Removed back cover, took out battery and restarted.
The second time the device locked with the screen off, and the power button couldn't turn the screen on again. No way to find out what happened this time. Removed back cover, took out battery and restarted.
This tool is possibly the least compatible tool with the TD2 you will ever find

[Q] WTF is torch mode

My missus was at work with the galaxy s in the standby mode,, she knows not how but she pressed something and it went into a "torch mode" with just a bright white light. Just pressed the home button to turn it off but has anyone heard of this and what do u press to get it there...
It was just an app she might have downloaded from market

Nope 1st thing i checked and the fone was locked, as in standby mode with a password needed to unlock, theres nothing to do with a flashlight or anything on there... The only thing ive done to it is throw Darkys 9.3 on there, but she incists it when into like a bright white, ive tried to replicate it with no avail
The rom probably bugged out and the lock screen didn't load properly, or something like that.
There's no documented "torch mode" on the Galaxy S. With all the custom kernels and source floating about, someone would have found it by now.
my assumption was a glitch because i couldnt replicate it. Just wanted to see if someone else had seen it to trouble shoot, but no one has so glitch it is
Could be part of Darkys rom check the specs .
jje
Couldnt see anything and ive been on Darkys Roms forever, never happened to me, I suspect it just temp froze while opening or something
I have seen a torch mode in Power Control widget on my CM7. The icon looks like a flash light icon that you see on a camera. Clicking on the icon turns the whole screen to white light. Pressing the back button takes me back to the home screen.
Well there's the screen test mode, but it doesn't have white as a colour - only red, blue or green.

Can't reach the Power button - any other way to wake screen?

Loving my HTC One, but I have such small hands that I can hardly reach the Power button to wake it up after it goes to sleep!
Does anyone know of an app where I can use the Volume button instead?
Thanks in advance.
Only way to possibly assign the sleep/wake function to the volume buttons would mean having to be rooted. I don't know if anyone's made that change yet though, it might just require editing a single file. Don't have any experience with This myself so not 100%. Just know it requires root.

After a quick search online I've discovered Auto Screen On in the Play Store, which lets me double tap the proximity sensor (left of top speaker) to wake it up.
Works perfectly but an app using the Volume button would be much better.
With this app your screen has to be awake all the time and will drain your battery i think.
On TrickDroid v2.0.0 u can choose VolWake in Aroma

Moved your thread to the proper section for you. Please remember to post only in the correct sections. Thanks.
I've heard of some app for a nexus 4 that allows you to just swipe the screen and it turns on. Not sure what it was called, but you get the concept.
Good job I have big hands really because this nor generally using the phone is an issue due to its size.

I'm assuming sweep2wake or swipe2wake will eventually be implemented. It's basically swiping left to right on the capacitive buttons to wake the phone.
The One X had it, but it was a bit buggy when I used it in terms of it not working if the phone was asleep for a long time. I got rid of my One X a while ago though so idk how the feature works now and if they figured it all out., but I expect it to get implemented on the HTC One eventually.
The proximity sensor isn't a bad idea, jailbroken iPhone 5 etc...have the always on proximity where if you cover the proximity it'll turn the screen off and eventually lock the phone after a while. So you can put it in your pocket and it will turn the display off, bring it out of pocket and it comes on without needing to slide to unlock or anything. It's good if your messaging constantly.

iirc showp1984 said he's getting a htc one, and see oz did too so hopefully one of them will bring sweep to wake Zarboz did an excellent job on the incredible s and he doesn't even have the device
Sweep to wake generally doesn't work sometimes in deep sleep. I use vol wake and the. Sweep to go to sleep on my incredible s now s2w is actually the greatest thing ever
MOD EDIT: Removed

Capacitive Button Backlight Auto/Off

I normally don't have capacitive button phones (or disbale the backlights on Samsungs) and this is my first DROID phone.. but I do notice that the capactive buttons backlight will auto turn off outdoors or in areas with a lot of light.
Has anyone found a way to manually disable the capactive button backlight without root? Is it even possible without root? I'd like to turn them off, becomes a bit of a distraction when watching videos or reading in the dark. Hopefully Motorola will put in an option in the near future.
Also, is anyone else kind of disappointed that Motorola did not implement the new graphic button layout design that Android 5.0 Lollipop will use? I understand it might be confusing to some newcomers or people in general, but I wish it was done personally. They were plenty aware of 5.0's layout. Just a weird oversight.
The Lux app allows you to turn them off.
I accomplished it by using Screen Filter and auto-launching it on startup with AutoStart.
I'm coming from the same background, a Galaxy S3 with the capacitive backlights turned off (CM11) and an S5 right after that briefly (they have that feature built into the OS).
So far literally the only complaint I've had is the backlight on my recent app-switcher is super uneven, likely an air-bubble in the glue. It bothered me having it on because it was uneven and this was my solution (which I prefer to having the lights enabled, even if it was an even distribution).

Camera taking hundreds of photos in my pocket!

This is driving me crazy!
I've set the Z3 Compact to tap to wake - a feature I like very much - but I'll often pull out the phone to see that it's taken loads of pictures of my pocket. And my pocket really isn't that interesting.
I've tried changing the password from a pattern to a PIN thinking that maybe I was somehow unlocking it that way, but I figure I must somehow be knocking the camera icon on the lock screen and it seems the only way I can remove that from the lock screen also stops the physical button working too.
So has anyone any ideas on how can I fix this and (a) keep the physical camera button working and (b) keep using tap to lock? Thanks.
Are you locking the phine pefore putting it in your pocket or just letting it sleep?
I had mine set to lock 30 seconds after pressing the side button to sleep it and was ending up with pocket texting and calls and pictures. Set it to lock instantly with button press and have not had any issues. Maintained 30 seconds after sleep for regylar locking.

You are probably hitting the dedicated camera button on something. A full depression will wake the phone and the next one will take a picture. Doesn't matter if the phone is locked etc.
try to disable the dedicate button for camera.. in camera options
As suggested here deactivate waking up the camera with the dedicated camera button. I had that problem to until i deactivated that.
