What exactly is Dalvik-cache?? - LG Revolution

I'm wondering if periodically clearing this is a good idea?
I was wondering because there is a lot of stuff in there, and I'm guessing this affects my usable cache??
Also with the V8 update downloading to my phone and me deferring the install, I wasn't able to update an app due to insufficient space.
So clearing it a good idea, or not? Also where is the stupid V8 update so I can delete it.

Dalvik gets made everytime the phone reboots. Clearing it wouldn't hurt anything but unless you have uninstalled apps that get loaded at boot then its kinda pointless.

how to update to new marketplace using cm7 rc1

I can't seem to find a thread detailing how to do this..
Doesn't it just come with the tiny gapps that you're supposed to flash alongside cm?
Or is there a newer market that I am unaware about?
The one that comes with cm7 rc1 nightly 3 is 2.2.11
It happens by itself.
Since installing cm7 the normal marketplace doesn't work

This.
There seem to be a lot of small screwy things related to the google applications on Gingerbread-based ROMs. Best shot for getting everything working correctly is to do a full wipe and reflash. I know I had to do that to get GTalk working.
What about the not so easy answer?

Let me know if you figure one out. I spent about two weeks trying all sorts of off-the-wall stuff to get around having to wipe to get GTalk to work. As soon as I wiped (as I should have in the first place) it worked without a hitch.
It should auto update, at least for me it did.
If not go here

I flashed CM7 RC1 and I automatically got updated to 2.3.2.
Just give it time. It'll happen. Market updates by itself without user intervention.

me too. I didn't have to do anything. I like the new market btw, subtle changes but having more room to view apps is nice

suggests to me that it will not auto-update in the OP's case.
It seems to be half working now but I can't look ay my downloaded apps list without it crashing. All other apps are fine

Have you tried clearing the Market app's cache and data?
Clear Market data in "system / applications / manage".
[edit] I see codesplice already gave you the correct answer
No joy. I'll go for the wipe later on

Ok newbie here.

Sorry tried to post this on the related forum page but was told could only enter it here.
Right..
I have flashed ICS 333 rom 1.1/2.0/2.01 to my I9000 every thing is great until when I exit out of some apps it causes gapps to crash. This obviously diasbles Navigation, Gmail Chrome etc basically anything to do with google.
No problem I'll reboot....I reboot and it just hangs and cycles the multi coloured tile boot sequence, I have tried everything cleared all types of caches, Devlik and re-flashed the gaps zip all with no result. I have to each time basically re-flash the rom and it sorts itself. But its a real pain in the ass, I have done this four/five times on all three versions now.
To me the gaps has a fault and its not the rom, I really hammer the google tools basically I use evertything that google provides for android, so it makes me wonder if it one of the apps thats killing it, I have looked at the logs but nothing stands out.
Kernel is Semaphore 3.0.8 ICS 1.2.2s
Build: IMML76L ICS333-2.0.1
Baseband: I900XXJVU
Network: 3UK
Usage: Heavy multiple applications and syncs.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as it is starting to test my patience.
Thanks in advance.

Have you tried fixing permissions?
Sent from my GT-I9000 running remICS-UX using XDA premium
Thanks for the reply.
Yeah did that on the recovery but that did nothing seemingly.
It basically mid process says that gapps has stop unexpectedly. The phone continues to work normally but without gapps. If I reboot it hangs.

I've read others say that this usually is due to an incomplete wipe. Old apps or information conflicting with new. You could try clearing data on gmail, etc but you may need to wipe completely and reflash

Maybe you are trying to use wrong Gapps version? PS. My dad served with gurkhas in Burma in WW2

Its the gapps that is recommended by the dev on each version. So other people should be getting it.
As for Gurkhas, my Great grandad a high ranked commando also served with them as part of a small detachment of men working behind Japanese lines disrupting supplies. He had huge admiration for their loyalty and fearlessness in the face of danger. So for that my online name has always been Gurkha to remind people of that.

why don't you try another set of gapps? check this out http://goo.im/gapps/ oh, and also wipe everything except sd card, this means factory reset! and use titanium backup to backup everything including data. dont forget to hit thanks if you find this helpful!
isn't the solution there in ICS333 FAQ?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA
Hi thanks for the replies
Do you refer to point 6 of the faq and the partition being full?
On all my re flashes I have basically wiped the phone dead inc partition, davlik battery stats anything that I thought might be causing this error. This also refers to all apps I'm just talking about Google related because it only seems to impact them.
Thanks

Do full wipe befoure installing rom and gapps then after installing gapps again wipe cache and factory reset .From recovery flash datafix it will solve the problem i think for your rom

I will report any findings.

This time
Cleared davlik and cache
flashed google apps
Then flashed data fix
Without doing a wipe.

rom links dead
I fixed the links. All links for the ROM and Gapps are posted on the Downloads page of my site from now on. Just follow the link.
I just switched back to Hanger's ROM from CM9 and I must say, even though it doesn't get as high of benchmarks, it feels a whole lot snappier and there seems to be 0 lag in his ROM. Very pleased and will probably use it as a daily driver now. Thanks a bunch for your hard work. Hope everything in your family is OK now.

I've learned after years of computer use and building and repairing them that benchmarks don't always mean anything. Benchmarks rarely test the average performance that a user will experience.

I just went to ad fly homepage and manually entered the download code or whatever to the end of the URL. Worked for me.

Hanger doesn't check this thread regularly; if you have a "bug," see OP and report it in the bug tracker so it can be addressed in the next update.
Are you guys using the stock keyboard? Give swiftkey beta 3 a shot or the new JB one

Did you make sure and do a full wipe first? You didn't by chance restore data with TBU did you?
I've been running this ROM for weeks and I don't have either bug on my install.

Love the ROM but have some lag...
I'm having lag to the point of frozen. I've had to pull the battery about 4 times in the last 3 days. It's not related to USB issues since I'm not plugged in when it happens. The apps (not any in particular) seem to overload the phone's ability to process. If I'm lucking it reboots - otherwise it's a battery pull.
I did restore data using TBU and I'm using the "lazy" kernel configuration.
Other than that I really love this ROM. Seriously. It has every buzzer and whistle I could hope for and they all work.

I can't even ask you to fix permissions using rom manager or via recovery xD

[Q] Data accumulating of Xposed Framework Why?

I get data accumulating in the xposed framework app. It happens a little at a time. Don't know why? Has anyone else had this problem? I have the 2.6.1 app on S3 touchwiz 4.4.2 wickedx 7.3 rom. If I let it go 2 weeks or so I have seen in at 2 gigs, I know, crazy!!! I have to install updates and let it reboot like 4 times to get it down or just wipe data and then recheck all modules and reboot to start over. First shots are of modules and then others are what the data looks like. You can look at the times to see how much it rises.

Here are data shots
Every hour every day it keeps going up. I deleted the app cleared cache and dalvik and reinstalled and same thing. Right now it is frozen and still keeps climbing. Any advice on what to do?

If I don't remember bad, versions prior to v2.7 had to download a lot of data everytime the module list was updated, and maybe the app kept the data. If you spam the download button that'd explain the growing data structure.
Why don't you update to v2.7 (it's tagged as experimental on the app I think so you will have to change to see all experimental versions)? That got stable as hell

Nope, didn't do it. Wiped dalvik and cache after uninstalled old one then installed new one and then checked all modules and data is creeping up again. I even got rid of a few modules and no go. Starting completely over from scratch will take some time and will try when I have some time.
