I got the pre-rooted ics rom on my Vivid. Now, everytime I restart my phone, it goes into this "Android is upgrading" screen and starts "optimizing" applications. IS there any workaround to this?
*EDIT*
I forgot to mention, my phone still boots up after that, but it gets annoying having to sit through that screen every time I restart my phone.
Also, I get no audio from any apps but my music app... No music from videos, games, or any other app... What is with this???
mines does the same thing, and mine wont let me message, just says please wait.....
Same thing here. Mine takes about 30seconds to reboot, so i don't mind. Got used to that years ago, when i had a BB9000.
same here, but only when I choose restart. If I soft boot, power off and manually turn it on it does not do that.

Here you go guys. Just update to the official release. Should solve the problems.
So I'm guessing no root for now?
I think its an ics thing. Was not rooted before updating to ics and my vivid does this. I think its an ics self check deal

No, you can but you have to have the correct recovery.

Go here, register, and read the vivid forums. Wild Child will get you set up. Just read everything, watch the videos, etc. before you do anything! Follow all of the directions.

What are you on/ what have you done so far?
Are you stock rom? Do you have boot loader unlocked?
I am on the rom given here:

And I have relocked my bootloader in preparation for installation

Is there any current way to root the Nexus One on FRG83 (2.2.1) to where you don't have to unlock the bootloader?
Basically looking to be able to flash a ROM without voiding my warranty for good by unlocking the bootloader, since that cannot be restored to factory no matter what.
Any help would be appreciated, I have searched all the N1 forums but haven't seemed to find this out.

Sorry for the delay! Yes, I am running the CyanogenMod nightly and ClockWork Recovery on it !
JWhipple how did you flash the rom on your phone, I have tried this as will but I'm stuck at the ! screen.
The way I tried was to root my phone using this app (which worked)
Downloaded lasted nightly build
rename to update.zip
copy to sdcard
power phone up in bootloader
choose recovery
At this stage all I see is the andriod and a ! , it doesn't seem to flash.
I am on 2.2.0
alos how log did the flash take juat is case I'm not waiting long enough
cheers
I used RomManager to install the ClockWorkRecovery , and then installed using ClockWorkRecovery.
Cheers, just figured that out
Rom booting up now.
Can't want to try some others as well
Did you find the google addon, they don't seem to be on the Cyanogen web site?

Should be able to download it using rommanager as well!
Rom Manager didn't find them either
Right now I'm watching the Cyanogen logo just pop up send a lighting blot around the andriod then pop off (over and over).
I take it this is what you saw? Also been about 5 mnutes now.

I saw that but it didn't take more than a minute for the first boot.
Sorted now.
Process for me was to
root phone using the software on the first page
download the lasted nightly build
copy it to sdcard
download Rom manager
Allow Rom manager to install its recovery image
DO BACKUP
boot into bootloader
start up recovery which started rom manager's recovery
clean all old data (hence why it wasn't booting correctly)
flash rom
I can also confirm it is now possible to run custom roms without unlocking your device (no padlock on bootup screen).
Thanks JWhipple
So out of sheer curiosity, I just got the text about the OTA update from ATT what happens if I did this. I currently have my phone rooted and ics that pirate dropped a while back.

You mess up your phone. Return to stock GB, it is in the dev. Section. You also will have to relock bootloader. I bet you know this already but just want to keep you from messing up your phone.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using XDA
You'll need to relock your bootloader if you want to run the update.
Yeah, I got it too. Probably just the OFFICIAL ics roll out that made it our way.. I doubt there's much difference.. oh, and we'd lose our roots. I'm not going to update it.
Yeah I kind of already knew that was the case but wanted some other opinions... Any one use the RUU that ghost put out have any problems... Sometimes my audio gets buggy, like doesn't play sound then reset phone and all good... Doubt the two are connected but just curious
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda premium
I also just received the text from AT&T informing me of the important update.
My boot loader is re-locked, phone is un-rooted and I used the latest ICS RUU to update the phone.
My question is now or later (assuming I stay locked and on the current ROM) if I happen to select the check for updates option on the phone will I screw anything up?
Does this OTA method give you the option to save the downloaded file but not do the upgrade?

Yes, it will download and let you save for later. You won't screw anything up. However, since you are already on the latest ics you don't need the update.

I agree that I dont need it but AT&T will probably have my phone flagged as not having received the update. I wanted to make sure that say in 6 months time while playing with the phone I forget and try the update option that I dont screw anything up.
I imagine though that before then I will re-lock, root and download one of the custom ROM's in which case I need to make sure that I dont accidentally choose the OTA update!!

Go to that website. To see the vivid forums you will have to register. After you register you will be able to see the different roms he has which includes generic, if you want to tether. I am on the att version, just like stock without the bloat. Also it comes with his wcx recovery. It is already rooted as well so no worries there. He also has videos that show every step in installing his recovery plus rom. It is also "over clocked" at 1.5 instead of the 1.2 the factory sends out.
Hope this helps out!

It's really not truly over clocked, it is the natural clocking for the phone. My battery life has improved by about an hour since I went to this rom. I was on stock ics before switching to this. I usually use it 12-14 hours a day with at least 30 left at the end of the day. I listen to an hour of pandora, spend at least a couple of hours on xda, usa today, and sync 3 emails accounts. The biggest battery waster for me and I would get a few more hours if not for it is the screen brightness. If I would turn off auto brightness and dim it, I would have a couple of days worth of battery life.

The AIO toolkit is way to go to root properly. You should think if you want to stay GB bootloader or switch to oval. You should also think which rom it should be. Stock or custom stock or cm/miui. That error never occurred by me BTW.
If I helped click thanks like mummy told ya

Thanks for the reply. yes! everything is fine and working. Now i need to read/study other things for me to understand. i'll try reading about Custom Roms.
Hello everyone, thanks for taking your time and reading this.
I've owned a Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000 for about two years now. This phone is not my primary phone, as I just use it as a secondary phone for different apps/backup, most of the times the phone is turned off.
But a few days ago, I turned the phone on, and once the homescreen had loaded, around 20-30 seconds later, the phone will freeze, and there's nothing else you can do other than take the battery out to turn it off.
A few details about the phone: the phone has never been flashed, and the OS has never been touched. It's basically at stock, but the only thing I remember is updating the official firmware through the Samsung link in the settings. The phone has never been modded, and that's what bugs me the most. (I've never had experience with 'modding' phones with custom ROMS and such)
So, after sitting at home all day looking for a fix, I couldn't find anyone else in my situation. There are a few similar situations, but I am yet to find something that replicates my problem exactly.
I've also tried rebooting the phone in many different ways, for example, taking out the memory card, then taking out the sim card, then taking them both out completely.
That's when I found a link which gave me information on how to factory reset the device. Since nothing else was working, I decided to go for it.
I held the VOLUME UP button + the HOME button, and hit the power button and got the menu up.
The menu works fine, I was flicking through the options for 10 whole minutes just to check if it freezes or not, and it works perfectly fine.
So then I factory reset the phone, wiped the system cache, and I also formatted the internal SD card.
Still, the problem persists. This time, the phone will reboot for a little while longer, since I expect the system files are getting set up, then it asks for the language, and before I can hit English, it freezes, and the screen stays like that until the battery is dead. All the hardware buttons don't do anything, it's basically fully dead with the screen still on the OS menu.
I was wondering if anyone knows what I should do?
I can provide more information if needed, and I can even upload a video to YouTube if you want a better aspect of the problem.
Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Ah, sorry, got the title completely messed up there.
Yes it's the GT-i9000 and I think it had Froyo 2.2.1, forgot to include that in the main text.
Could try Rooting the phone and wiping all options in Recovery and Reboot
or
Could be that something maybe corrupted which is halting the system
Upload a video so that we can offer better advice
Which Rom / Firmware are you using?
Last option.
Would Recommend Downloading Rom (whichever you choose) and go from there....
Major UPDATE:
Okay, so after sticking at it the whole day and trying to get a better understanding of this situation, I've managed to work around the problem slightly. It's not fixed yet, though.
So after the screen had frozen for the (insert number here)th time, the battery was starting to go empty, so I stuck it on charge, but I forgot that I had left the frozen screen on (currently frozen on the 'Language Select' set up menu).
After about 20 minutes, the phone vibrated and a little message popped up, and it said that 'the process Soundhound.com.xxx.xxx was force closed', or something along the lines. I can't remember fully because it popped up for only around 4 seconds and disappeared.
As soon as I saw that, I quickly went to the application settings and deleted all of the soundhound cache/data and then removed the app completely. After that I thought it was fixed for sure, so I was messing around with the phone and using different apps to see if it freezes again, and it didn't.
But I had to restart the phone to see if the freeze issues happened again, and yep, it was there again, this time the same as the first issue, where it used to freeze up in the home screen. AND, I let it sit on the frozen screen for 15 minutes and it was that SAME soundhound app that got force closed, so once it got out of the frozen state, I quickly went to the application settings and the app was still there, it was like I didn't even delete it?
This leads to my new problem, the so called 'hard factory wipe/reset' doesn't actually reset EVERYTHING. As seen in my other post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2305825
Now I'm completely confused as to what I should do.
I've pretty much tried everything, and i'm sure a FULL hard reset where EVERYTHING gets wiped out might just fix it? The thing is though, I don't know how? I've been trying to fix this phone for about 7 hours straight now.
My opinion Flash a Stock Rom or what ever you wish and then Root it...
If selling it just dont bother with Rooting it.
As you say you have been at it for Several hours and flashing takes less than an hour even for a newbie if following the procedure correctly
As going by what you say it seems that files are messed up on the phone and better to start fresh

Is there a legit way to flash it, maybe through Samsungs website? I don't want to mess around with custom files, as I would like to keep everything clean.
Oh, and also, I just went through the media files and found some of my old pictures too. So for some reason, the 'format internal SD' option in the recovery menu isn't working.
If I flash it, will I have to flash it to Froyo 2.2.1 which it is currently in right now?
Here's information I found on the 'About phone' menu:
Kernel version:
2.6.32.9
[email protected] # 1
Build number:
FROYO.XXJPY
Baseband version:
i9000XXJPY

Briefly read your guide, and it's all mind boggling to a newbie like me :silly: lol
I might just have to flash it, because this problem is getting a little bit annoying now.
Which parts of your guide should I follow exactly? And shouldn't I be sticking Froyo 2.2.1 back in? Won't a newer firmware (such as the 2.3.6) make the phone slower/drain more battery than usual?
Oh and one last thing, what's the difference between rooting and flashing a phone? Cheers.
Rooting briefly means :
Giving yourself root access to system files and the ability to change things that normally are marked read only
This allows you to change all kinds of things that normally you wouldn't be able to
Flashing : Erm.. Flashing a new Rom on your Phone or the process of over-writing your internal memory
2.3.6 will be ok for you if you wish to stay just Stock on your phone.
Plus the fact if you wish to move to another Rom later on its just a matter of Rooting the Phone and installing the Custom Rom
Just follow guide from the : HOW TO GUIDE : TUTORIAL TO FLASH 2.3.6 JVU + ROOT BEFORE INSTALLING CUSTOM ROM
and you will be ok.

So the 2.3.6 Firmware you provide, is that known a 'custom firmware'?
I've been searching for YouTube videos with people explaining how to flash, but all the videos sound like they're speaking about some rocket science sh** lol
Now I'm super confused, some guy on YouTube is flashing to 2.3.6 JVT while you're doing JVU, I don't even know what that means haha
I just don't want to brick the phone and make it completely dead, that's why I'm just making sure I understand the basics before I go ahead with it, sorry if I'm starting to sound annoying lol
You wont brick it if you follow it correctly...
2.3.6 JVU is the basis for all custom roms been flashed unless stated otherwise by Rom Developers.
As its basically a stock 2.3.6 then when you want to flash another Rom its just a matter of Rooting the 2.3.6

So, i got an HTC ONE in august or so, and then i had it rooted last month or so, but i didnt really do anything. The problems all started going downhill last night. I was looking on how to update it to 4.3 Jellybean, and when i downloaded the ZIP, i went to my recovery(Teamwin or something) and installed it, but after that ,my phone would use like a black screen and not everything would work. So somebody suggested that if that occurs, factory reset your phone, or wipe it. And i did both, and then i ended up here. I have No OS, my screen is stuck on the "HTC-QUIETLY BRILLIANT" Page, and nothing works. The only thing that i can access is my bootloader and my recovery, etc. I am what you guys may call a half-way noob, i know a lot, but this topic is totally confusing the heck out of me. If somebody could help me fix this, i would owe them so much. Please help out a fellow HTC Oner.

Now, it says in the tutorial that you need to enable usb debugging and stuff, but how would i do that? All i need to do is install a stock rom so i can just get 4.3 and move on. I havent used my phone in a lonnng time and i need it very much!

I'm not an expert, but it doesn't seem too bad if you can get into recovery. First thing is to find out if you have a suitable ROM on the phone. If you inadvertently wiped internal data, you will probably need to sideload a ROM. If you do have a ROM on the phone AND you are sure it is one for the M7WLS, you can try flashing it again. If it were me, I'd download a stock rooted ROM and either sideload it or just push it via ADB. Your problems might have been the result of a bad download or installing a ROM for the wrong phone. If you did indeed flash a GSM ROM, the RUU is the way to go, but I've never messed with that process, so hopefully someone else will give you more details on that process.

Here use these for the drivers. Make sure you have no other drivers installed, if you do delete them and install those drivers. There should be a tutorial.
