[Q] Getting root without increasing the flash counter - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys
Have upgraded from the HD2 to this device and loving it so far.
Is there a way to root device without increasing the flash counter?
I know the US version has a procedure for this here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1505062
Is there one for the GT-N7000?
Thank you

Just remember do not flash any rooted rom directly via odin, this action will trigger your counter.

There's a thread in the Developers section with signed pre-rooted roms that will not trigger the counter when flashed with Odin. Worked like a charm for me.

I've recently purchased the galaxy note from an Iphone and I am definitely loving my new purchase.
However, I require some assistance/guide to rooting my phone. I have 2.3.6 XLA6 version and I am having trouble locating threads on how to root this version.
Can anyone help or point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance.

Go to section 2.
You'll have to flash to 2.3.5 first then root. Just read it over and over and it'll make sense. I came from an iPhone and it took me a couple days to get used to all the android language...
Good luck!

+1 You can't root 2.3.6 but if you really want root, instead of going back to 2.3.5 why not try the leaked ICS rom, it comes rooted!

+1 but practice flashing with stock roms first so you don't brick your phone...
I learned flashing roms first then I tried the Midnote ICS rom which I highly recommend over all the other roms.

And how do you propose that he flash ICS without increasing the binary counter? His Note is unrooted.
Ayway, going straight to ICS would be unwise at this point, IMO. ICS poses enough problems for experienced users, let alone fresh ones.
So I'd stick with gingerbread for now if I were you. When you get some experience with your new phone, then you can flash anything you like.

You can't without increasing the binary counter, but if he's going to root it, he'll lose his warranty anyway, if that's what your worried about. Flashing ICS with Odin is very easy. I did it on my Note coming from 2.3.6 and works with no problem. But yes, it DOES INCREASE your binary counter.

You lose warranty when your binary counter shows 1 or more, not when rooting. If your counter is NO, you can always flash back a stock Rom (unroot) and your repair service will never know you have tempered with your phone.
As I said, do some reading before offering advice.
Just i want to add this
Dear, rooting lose warranty, but it is very very easy to regain it by just simply unrooting(flashing a stock ROM is just enough)
while if you raise your counter, really nothing more difficult in note thn to reset it on GB. So i do favor chasmodo's concern.
anyway

download this and just start with I have non rootable ROM, i dont think you will have more query after this.

flash a stock rooted GB rom via Odin.
It will not raise your flash counter and you will have full root.
Put the ICS stock ROM on your phone and flash it with ever root using Mobile Odin
Then flash ROM of choice
Simply flashing CF-root kernel did not get me full root (could use root apps but couldn't write to system/app)

letters_to_cleo and guitarplayerone advised you better way, but you didn't listen to them and followed different method.
You must have raised your flash counter.
Enter to download mod, (vol down + Home + power)
and read flash counter Lt upper corner. If it is non zero, reset it with Triangle Away after flashing ICS only. Till then you are running out of warranty.

Ya i know about this site already , nithing to worry much. Just method u have used is ok for ics, not for gb (flashing kernel with oc odin). Though i personally prefer not to use even on ics. As it raise flash counter. Though it is easy to reset counter on ics, so this method still popular for ics.
Anyway find toolbox from my signature, and you will get link to triangle away appl. Use that to reset counter, but before this you have to flash ics rom. How to flash ics with keeping root intact - read rom swithch over from my signature.

How do I fully root the Note?

Hey guys, Recently my dad got a Galaxy Note (N7000) and he has been complaining about The Note 2 getting jelly bean and stuff.
I already rooted it for him with Superuser.
I want to install a custom rom for him but I read a lot of topics saying that theres a very high chance on bricking your device using CWM and stuff.
If anyone could post a step by step guide, That would be super-appreciated, Thank you in advance.

He's already rooted and on stock kernel, if he tries to flash a ROM using above CWM.zip or does factory reset on it, he will brick his device.
Best advice is to go Here, download PhilZ-cwm6-DXLR5-OLB-2.7-signed.zip (that's the one that is compatible with his ROM) and put it on external SD card. From there, boot into recovery mode, and flash Philz kernel from external storage. (It's the only one that can be flashed from stock recovery). Then phone will be fully rooted with safe stock kernel and safe CWM recovery. Only then should any attempt be made to flash ROMs from recovery.
Re: CWM.zip READ THIS
Easiest for me is to flash ICS of your choice using Odin. Then flash speedmod-kernel-n7000-ics-k3-13-Odin.tar using Odin. Select PDA in Odin to use this file. Google it up. Double check that the file you get is for ICS N7000 and that it is the Odin version.
The end result will be a rooted ICS that you can safely wipe. It also has Clockworkmod installed. This allows you to flash custom JB roms. You may get a yellow triangle upon reboot. Just buy Triangle Away on Google Play store. Reset the counter using the app.
But flashing philz from stock doesn't result in triangle, raised counter and need for triangle away. Surely easier
