I created backup for my original 2.3.4 ROM in the ClockworkMod Recovery. After installed CM 7.1. The original ROM backup doesn't work in the recovery backup and restore menu's. I Started the phone, and the phone is restart all time.
What's the problem?
I need Original ROM.
Only smartflash?
Copy the attached file to your sd-card, install it from CWM, and then restore your backup.
I created some backups in the CWM Recovery --> Restore Backup --> Backup.
The Backups doesnt works.
ive had this happen to me too and figured out that, at least in my case the emmc and sd card got swapped, making it impossible for CWM to find the backup. also, there was an issue regarding a touch recovery version having problems with our phones.

Did you try TrymHansen's post already?
Can you post a copy of /cache/recovery/last_log

TrymHansen's solution should work. CM7 uses ext4 and stock uses ext3.

Same here I made a backup with 5.2.0.8, then flashed new BB, then MD5SUM mismatch when restoring...
Plus some strange behavior of the phone, I even thought it was bricked, impossible to reboot in smartflash mode, and finally rebooted alone in recovery.
Had to made a fresh reinstall. Grrrr....

Can anyone tell me what, if anything, I should do about this error which appears after restoring a Nandroid backup? The phone seems to be working ok so far. I've done Nandroid backup and restore several times without errors before but obviously something has changed.
Error while restoring /sdcard/.android_secure!
/tmp/recovery.log was copied to /sdcard/clockworkmod/recovery.log. Please open ROM Manager to report the issue.
I cannot see any file called "recovery log" in the /sdcard/clockworkmod folder. There is a file called "recovery-update.zip".
I tried uninstalling/re-installing ROM Manager and then making and restoring a new nandroid backup but the result was the same. The backups are to the internal sd card.
I'd be grateful for any advice. I tried trawling around the forums for some hours as this seems to be a widely discussed issue but cannot find any clear explaination of the cause or fix.

do you use an external sd?
check if there is a clockworkmod folder in that.
Yes, there is a Clockworkmod folder on my ext/sd card. I wanted to do Nandroid backups there but the option to Use External Storage is greyed out on the settings page.
Right now, the only Nandroid backup I have in on the int/sd card

which settings page ?
in CWM you need to go to backup & restore and choose backup (this will backup to external SD).. there is another option to select backup to internal SD
I'm using ROM Manager (Premium) and under the settings there's an option to use external sd card but it's greyed out.

Use CWM directly to make backups to your desired storage
Can you tell me where to get CWM? I can only see ROM Manager on the Google Play site. I understand that RM is really just a front end for CWM but I'd have assumed the functinality would be the same.
Thanks again for the reply
if you are having hydracore the cwm will be already there. It's a recovery. you need to boot into recovery mode.
vol up + power + home
In as few words as I can muster.
I recently tried to back up my current ROM CheckRomV6 using CWM. In attempting so the following occurs.

I need to get this fixed so that I can begin the progress change my rom. What is causing this? I'm thinking it's the kernel, but to be frank I really am at a loss. I'm still rather inexperienced with all this. Any suggestions? (I have searched.
You're probably using CWM or a ROM manager to do a backup
Try rebooting in recovery and use the option (Backup & Restore) to do a backup, use .tar format if available in the menu
Backing up the ROM doesn't require a safe kernel, but restoring a backup does
Best of luck

I just tryed that. Not. Good. This has officially gone over my current know how.
CWM won't let me select anything. Regardless if I scroll up or down ( to try to select Backup & Restore) The cursor moves... then the screen "blinks" black... and then my cursor is back where it originally was at (reboot). I need to make sure that this isn't a deeper problem before I flash something.
I am open for suggestions.
whats the kernel you on?

you could try a different kernel for you rom
I would like to try some ROMs but my prolem is that if I dont like it I want to come back, BUT i don't want to create everything again with Link2SD.
So I can creat a nandroid backup -> instal new rom and IF I dont like it, -> restore nandroid backup or install previous rom and then do the nandoird restore?
Link2sd restores work fine provided you remove 05mountsd script from init.d prior to backup. The script creates a conflict with Link2sd after restoring a nandroid for some reason. At least this is the case on CM7.

Nandroid backups store all data and symlinks of link2sd.
If you restore a nandroid backup you'll have the rom as you left it, including all apps on the partition, their data and link2sd links, so no need to link everything again.

No. Nandroid backups alao store system and kernel, you'd be back to stocklite 7.
You can try this:
-nandroid backup your stocklite 7
-wipes, flash stocklite 8
-if it didn't change drastically, you can restore only the data of your previous backup (advanced restore > restore data).
-if it gives you bootloops... bad luck, you'll have to use titanium backup and relink apps afterwards.
I have gotten this to work for lots of nightly upgrades of cm7 roms, and sometimes even when changing cm7 roms if they're not too different. Nothing lost by trying as long as you got your backup.

I'll try it maybe
I wandered around the forum looking for a thread on nandroid backups but there is none regarding problems restoring them.
Here is my story:
I've made a lot of nandroid backups and I always copy them to my pc just in case. But if a wipe everything and then copy back from my sd card into the backups folder of TWRP i'm unable to restore them. TWRP does not even recognize them as backups it does not matter if they are in my sd card or internal storage, I tried to put them back in the same folder and nothing happens . I checked at least twice that the file is there but TWRP simply won't recognize them. Even If I flash a rom from scratch, then copy the file into the folder again and check in recovery for the backup it is still unable to recognize the file.
If I wipe everything but internal storage I can restore them with no problems. But if I copy them i can't. Any solution?. :cyclops:
Did you change the name of the backup?
If I change just one letter of the nandroid it doesn't work anymore.

I didn't changed it. I wil try to copy 2 folders back and check if it works. Thanks.
Did you use another version of TWRP to backup than the one you try to restore with? Sometimes this causes trouble too.So if you made the backup with TWRP 2.8.6.0 you should restore it with the same version. If you´ve changed in between flash the one you made the backup with.

I've been using 2.8.6.0 for a long time, I though that maybe I just needed to upgrade but that's the last version available. I tried numerous times but In just can't. I want to restore the original rom but It seems impossible now. :c
Anyways, thanks for the reply.
HI,
I did a TWRP backup and then copied the file to my PC. After installation of a new ROM It seems this is not the way to copy a TWRP Backup to your PC.
Anyone know if I can reinstall from the files I copied from the phone?
Cheers
twrp backup is used to backup your current rom to restore when something went wrong. It backup the whole rom. It is not something you restore after flashing new rom.
