Friends, most of us are aware that one of our friend, ROM porter/ Developer yash lost his mobile and because of no tracking app he cannot track it again...... So sad. But there are still many of us are not using anti theft app or must be using some apps which will not work after erasing data through CWM .......
So my concern is what application we need to use to avoid such incidences and get back our stolen handset ....
1. Theftware
2. F secure
3. Prey Anti theft
or any other.
I finding the details, if any one else is aware about them please share them.....

Theft Aware definitely seems to be good. All the other anti theft solutions had an inherent problem, a full system wipe also removes the anti theft software, making it useless to use.

I use avast antivirus. In avast is a anti theft. That's very good. The avast app is a very good tool.

Ya its even comes with Avast antivirus but I never use antivirus hence I will prefer to stick with theft aware

Same here, even I don't use AVs on phone, they have a natural tendency of sucking whatever little resources (Ram, battery) our phone has

I'm member of the original Theft Aware team. Last year our company - including Theft Aware - got aquired by AVAST. Theft Aware got integrated into the avast! Mobile Security suite and is now known as avast! Anti-Theft.
This has two advantages for the user:
- the whole suite (including Anti-Theft) is now free for use and download
- our resources have increased significantly. therefor we were able to increase our development efforts.
That's why I really recommend to uninstall Theft Aware and installs avast! Mobile Security.
if you only want to use the avast! Anti-Theft part of the suite (without anti virus etc.) you install avast! Mobile Security from the android market and open the Anti-Theft menu. avast! Anti-Theft will be installed as separate app. As soon as avast Anti-Theft is installed, you can uninstall avast! Mobile Security and use avast! Anti-Theft like you are used to from Theft Aware.

Yes, I too downloaded it and configured it but how to access the Avast Anti theft user interface when it is enabled and Avast mobile security is uninstalled?

Open the phone dialer, dial your avast security pin and press call. You should be able to see your anti-theft settings. (THis works even after un-installing avast antivirus).
I found a serious limitation though. The documentation says its mod-proof. I initially installed this on CM7. However, when I installed MIUI and then reverted back to CM7, TheftAware was gone !! This operation doesn't require us to enter any PIN and hence any potential thief can do this and get away !! . So now WIPE seems the only good feature, but has to be sent before the thief switched off your phone.

I recently came across a advertisement saying that "Norton #1 in internet security". I just wonder how secure that these softwares are. Don't they know that there are cracked version of their latest product in the underground. Even their software can easyly cracked. I feel like wasted my money in prescribing license for their internet security!!!!!!
Nearly any piece of software can be cracked so you don't have to pay for it. But you shouldn't use cracked/pirated software, and my main man MC Double Def DP will use his rad dance moves to tell you why in this hip, up to date video. Remember, don't copy that floppy!
I've always steered clear of Norton myself. Uses way too much resources. I use Kapersky myself.
Or just use one Free ones like AVG or Avast. I use Avast Home and I much prefer it to McAfree Enterprise that work forces on me.
I use my Wifi Router's Firewall and Windows Firewall.
Doesn't cost me a penny, no-one is been ripped off, and I prefer it to what any of the OTT software has to offer anyway.

I have Norton & it does it's security job. But, it sucks the brains out of my PC. This will be the last year paying for it
i use Microsoft security essentials, its a good anti virus, and its free!
Avira free here + superantispyware + mbam(all free) +noads +o route a ton of pages to 127.0.0.1.On linux, half of that.

Its funny how no one seems yo know about Bullguard. It's probably the best antivirus program i've ever used.
Started using it about 4 years ago. No a single virus since. The only times i get them is when i disable it to use cracks, and even when infested it removes everything!
Once a mate of mine had a virus. Avast, AVG free, Norton, Trend Micro and AVG paid didn't find anything.
Buklguard found to to 100 threats! It was able to remove it all but it was so deep in the registry we had to start over. But does show how well it is.
And best of all, also has a Mobile edition that takes near nothing in resources.
*forgot to tell, on my Win8 tablet with 2gb ram and 1 GHz processor, it usus less than 15% when scanning incoming downloads and less than 5% when in standby w/ real time scanning on.

I use an old version of Norton that doesn't drain PC resources (It doesn't have all the bloated back up software. If I want to back up files I just do it manually to an external HD), but I still get the latest "Live Updates" anti-virus definitions, and that seems to work well.

+1. This is what I've been using. If I wasn't too stingy to pay for a copy of ESET or Kaspersky, I'd pick up one of those. Until then, This is what I've been using for the past year or two.
Never had any resource issues with any version of Norton on any computer and a 3 licence version can be picked up for £20 or less if you know when in the year to go shopping.
Never trusted McAffee, not after having fun and games getting it to update on a friend's PC back in the 90s, and then when I worked at NTL it was their AV of choice, which merrily let nimbda work its way through all their PCs.
It was a contractor with Norton on his own laptop which highlighted the infection. Not impressed.
I have tested many antyviruses, but I prefer AVG Free.

I have Norton on my machine for years, and it hardly fail me at any point.
Several fake antivirus and Zero attack were thrown at NIS but it managed to block it all.
There is no real crack for for Norton. There is only a trial - reset for Norton, which need you disable the "Norton Tamper Protection", which need to be done by yourself, to allow access to the registry and files of Norton.
Without your command of disabling the Tamper Protection, it will not allow any access to the Norton Files. So you won't need to worry about Virus shutting down your Norton. Keep your Norton SONAR2 up and you will be fine.
It is a paid product, but it is hella cheap at some site.
I have been using Norton since 2009. Norton 2008 and earlier were craps.

I've been using Norton for quite some time now also, and prefer Norton 2006 to the latest edition Norton 360. I still get current "Live Updates" with Norton 2006. It has a simpler more streamlined user interface, and has not failed me yet.
Norton blows. Hard. Use avast. Its free, people contribute to the virus definitions and the database is updated almost daily.

Actually Norton is #1 right now in picking up the most viruses. They do tests on that stuff, and I can have it for free by either taking a copy from the store I work at or doing 3 months trials. Forever.

Been using Microsoft Security Essentials since 1 year. Running very good. No attacks from virus even though I have used many virus full pen drives. Many of my friends come to me for cleaning virus on the pen drives. Not even a single virus danced in my pc, they were kill as soon as detected.

Was using Bitdefender and Norton before but they really slow down my pc since they are heavy Softwares.

I guess you are using linux so no need of any antivirus.
I use symantec corp. antivirus.
I use a Mac.
I use avg free and malwarebytes both are free, most people confuse malware with viruses. Malware is malicious software on ur PC like that windows anti virus that takes control of your whole computer!
I use AVAST Home Edition - free and you can set it so you never see a pop-up unless you get hit.
But - a non - free version is malwarebytes.com - which nowdays is a must-have for all computers. It's 30.00 bucks for a years sub but I can't say enough good things about it.
No more junk/popups/trojans that try and sneak past your A/V and I've never had it hurt my resources on my CPU's at home.

I see absolutely no point in using antivirus on Android. I've sideloaded ton's of apk's from various websites and never ran into any problems. Pointless IMO.

If you're not viewing dodgy sites and not downloading dodgy apps, there is no need. It is a waste of battery and resources imo
As the average new virus and the average 0-day is able to keep hidden for up to a year I see no point for anti virus at all! Heuristics almost never work correctly, and the number of possible security holes on a computer is so vast that it's unlikely they ever will :-\
Oh, and that time span is not my personal opinion, it stems from a study made by an employee from Norton Security (IIRC).

Its not as though you have Terabytes of data to protect. At the most I imagine you would want to protect photos, sms/mms, music and perhaps app settings and highscores.
All of these can easily be backed up to a pc or cloud storage and its a good habit to get into because in my opinion flashing roms, radios ,kernels, hboots, etc has a much higher probability for data loss than a virus threat.
Ran lookout for a few weeks earlier in the year but have since binned it off. Ive never ran into any probems

Opinions differ. Tbh most antivirus use such a small amount of resources that I always think it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. I use Dr Web Light. Works for me.
If I ever happen apon a site stricken with malicious ad's and software that self installs. What applications (suite if you will, doesn't have to be all from the same company) should I use. For instance I use Avast!(antivirus), and Spybot Search & Destroy (anti spyware, malware, registry startup, etc).
Smart browsing habits will always be more effective than any software. At least that's my opinion on the matter. Combined with MS Essentials and a decent firewall I haven't had any issues in years.
I don't use Anti-Spyware or Anti-Virus apps. I am not ignorant. Just to lazy to buy one. It's about 1 and half years since I stopped buying Anti Virus and I was doing absolutely great.

We have Xfinity here they're pretty good about blocking crap not 100% however.
Avira and malwarebytes but i barely use them.
Chrome with every adblocker installed+CommonSense Anti-Virus 2013 is a great combo
(for those who don't get it the CommonSense was a troll , but seriously use common sense when browsing)

I have various software I use, here's a list:
AdBlock for no advertisements
CCleaner to clean caches and extensive history
KeePass for macro logins, avoids my typing on the keyboard
Malwarebytes for the passive website blocking
Microsoft Security Essentials for the most basic anti-virus
Spybot Search & Destroy for malware protection coupled with hosts protection
Most software won't be any help if the user doesn't know what they are doing, therefore smart web browsing will help keep you the most safe. As the old saying goes, a tool is only as good as the skills of the craftsman using it
I'm suprised nobody has said it but using iinux can protect you from most viruses. Largely because i dont think anyone writes viruses for linux.
But truly the best defence is not visiting dodgy websites.
Let's all be honest. The only reason you need an anti virus on a PC is because of torrents.

My buddy at work was looking at pictures of pitbulls since he is looking to buy one. He clicked on an image from google images and his computer went crazy lol it got infected bad.

I've known so many people who have problems and are oblivious (that is, until it's too late or until they finally get a virus that causes FUBAR) that I don't see an excuse NOT to have anti-virus when it's FREE.
I have Avast on my phone and tablet, AVG on my desktop computer (but may switch back to Avast) and I have Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, and CCleaner on the computer as well.
I've almost gotten a virus from a Google Image search once or twice - so I don't see why I should NOT use these free tools. It's not like I even notice they're there.
The wife gets so much spam from trying to get Farmville freebies that I won't help to de-crap her laptop anymore.
She is actually looking to buy another craptop now because of this.
Funny thing is she has worked for HP, NEC, Renesas and Telefunken and knows better.
Just amazes me...

Well, I don't have one and I'm not going to get one. Antivirus apps use a lot of RAM, which is understandable but because of the Ace's limited hardware I don't want to give this RAM to the app. So no thanks for me, then again I am only 13 and don't have any info on my phone that I don't want others to see.

agree with u.. there's too many variant of android, so it will be hard for virus to attack i think.. right now i'm using lewa without antivirus,
On the other side if you see, rather than just safety against viruses, avast ! Additionally offers anti-theft for phones which uses root access. But if your phone is stolen & the guy knows rooting, your chances are toast but on a general basis it is atleast better than nothing. I use avast ! Regularly just to be safe. On my computer too. Avast ! Is the best & is absolutely free for android. You can try it !

I use Dr. Web light from the Play Store. It's a free application and has always protected me as it updates it databases frequently. And yeah, IMO, virus protection is needed, I've had two so far. Thankfully Dr. Web caught them and quarantined them. I deleted the files concerning the viruses and was fine.
It also doesn't use too much RAM, on my Ace it uses only ~2-5 MB. Though right now its showing 794KB which is unusual.
