[Q] Wasp in a tea cup sound? after warranty repair - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Greetings all!
My phone has just returned from a Samsung warranty repair.
It now has peculiar if amusing fault, every time I press the return or menu key and the phone vibrates there is a sound I haven't noticed before it's like a wasp trapped in a tea cup but only very briefly.
Perhaps something wasn't tightened enough after a screen replacement.
Is this normal should I be concerned or will this odd sound lessen with time?
Or it could simply be that I'm being paranoid and the the G-note's always make that sound?
I'd rather not have to return it again unless necessary.
Thanks for reading.

No vibration sounds in heptic feedback. But I can clearly 'hear' vibration in vibrate mode.

this is sort-of off topic but are you located in the US?
I ask because i have heard that people in the US can't get a warranty repair from samsung with the international version of the note and i need a warranty repair.
Thanks for your help

If you don't wan't to send it back again you could lower the vibration intensity in the sound settings
Cheers

Thanks Boy124 for the feedback, I've contacted via mySamsung account and hope to hear from them soon

My commiserations kkg720
I'm in the UK myself.
Although they may not be able to offer you a warranty repair, if you haven't done so already go to http://www.samsung.com/us/#latest-home and register your device and contact them directly via the account, they will at the very least recommend a authorized repair centre in your location.
Who knows they may even honour their warranty regardless of it being a international version.
Be aware that on average it can take them the up to week to reply.
No need to be intimated by the their website it's a very easy processes.
best of luck, I know I'll be thinking twice before I buy another Samsung smartphone.

My only fear with leaving this fault, it may affect the future resale value via e.g. Ebay.

Sounds like the little vibrator didn't get put back into it's holder properly.
I've had a couple of phones torn apart (either by me or in my presence) and for the most part the haptic vibrator is just a tiny off-centered spinning top that sits between two plastic holders. If it's not sitting in there just right it'll rattle against the plastic that holds it.
Almost certain that's what you are hearing. It's not detrimental to the devices operation, but certainly sucks for resale.

Invaluable info thanks btyork.
They've fudge it up again at Samsung this phone's going back pronto.
Perhaps this time they'll do something about the banding on low-rez images Not that Samsung will acknowledge this fault with super amoled HD, a subject for a another thread I think.

HTC quality control issue?

So i am the owner of a MDA (wizard), 8525 (hermes) and now 2 tilts (8925).. and im notcing a trend.. HTC has some serious quality control issues.. now i know not everything can be perfect on a phone so thats no issue, however.. here are my issues.. first we'll start with the famous MDA (htc wizard).. i had about 10 of them over a 1yr period.. everytime at least one of the keys on the keyboard would be pushed in slightly so that it wasnt level with the surface.. i found this VERY annoying.. also the slider seemed different on each phone no matter how many different ones i had the slider was different everytime! then we move onto the 8525.. same issue with the keyboard.. even the backlight was dim on some of the phones.. me and my buddies have 8525s and each one is different.. ones screen might be slightly brighter then the other and so on.. but its all the same model # and so on.. then this brings me to the tilt.. ive had 3 so far.. first one had to be replaced because half the keyboard backlight went out.. but i LOVED the slider on it.. it really clicked into place when closing the phone a very loud firm snap.. but then the screen tilted sort of weird.. it was off angle.. so now i get the replacement and the screen tilts higher then my previous one however when sliding it shut its not as firm i dont hear the loud snap anymore its more of a soft snap..which makes me feel its not so firm..so then after closer examination i notice my keyboard is a bit flakey too the G and H keys are off centered from the rest.. and the H key is pushed into the keypad slighty in the top left corner.. for a better example.. the Y U I H J K B N M 0 keys are white.. the rest are black.. well the G key is black and the H key is white.. u can clearly see the the G is slightly over into the white area.. i am VERY picky on this type of stuff when these phones cost hundreds of dollars.. and i hate calling to have my phone constantly replaced.. am i the only one whos experiencing these problems? i highly doubt it.. htc does have a serious quality control issue in my eyes..
ummm, Yes?
Are you just looking for a reason to complain? HTC from my experience, Dash, 8125, Kaiser, SDA, etc, etc are great phones. Nothing ever wrong with the hardware. I have only had to send my back due to WM5/6 errors. If your keys on the keypad a busted, try not killing the keys, they didn't do anything to you.
ive had same issues with the 8125, and 8525....
lol im not looking for a reason to complain i am a SUPER picky person tho. i absoutley LOVE my tilt but i just want to see if any one else is having the same issues and apprently im not alone!
I've noticed the same types of issues on numerous 8525's, and two Tilts. I've had SE, Samsung, and Moto phones, and never had to make an exchange until I got an HTC. Unfortunately, none of those manufacturers make a worthy PPC for the U.S. The best suggestion, unfortunately, is to try not to pay too much attention to the quality details, or go with another phone type/manufacturer. You could exchange the Tilt another 10 times and find something wrong with each device if you look too closely.

me and my buddy just said the same exact line..
What's the model for the Tilt (under the battery cover)? KAIS130, 120, 110, or 100?
Also, where is it made?
I myself am not a picky person but I am having an issue also. My D-pad/phone end call assembly ( the buttons on the front of the phone) is loose. it wiggles around. Is anyone else having this problem? I really don't want to return the phone because of all of the work don't to get the phone to where it is now. But I do not want the buttons to stop working in the future because of it. Does anyone know if ATT repairs the phones or replaces them. Also will my cooked ROM void the warinty (sp) for a hardware problem or will they not care?
yup, i'd have to agree with you, quality control is not their strong area

I have to Disagree.
I have a nearly 2 year old Wizard which has been heavily used and abused on a daily basis, rarely in a case, usually in a pocket with coins, pens etc or rattling around in a cup holder in the car. All the buttons, keys, volume slider and sliding keyboard work as well today as they did when new. No rattles or sticking buttons. Mini USB has never let me down for sync or charge. On only Two occasions the 2.5mm audio socket wouldn't recognise when the headset had been removed but this was solved by blowing into the socket and reinserting/withdrawing the headset plug.
My Vario III, while still in its youth, is showing no signs of being any different.
I've had countless Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola phones over the years and everyone of them was physically ready for replacing before they were out of 12 month contract. Sticking buttons, non functioning joysicks, loose sliders, creaking hinges, failure to charge etc. The only exception being Nokia 6210, which I'm sure if I found it after all these years would still have a charge on its battery . The battery life on that phone was unbelievable.
So far my only gripe with the tilt has been software issues! Video recording with the tilt is horrible, even in daylight! and tcpmp played my movies much smoother with the 8525 than the tilt! Otherwise the phone is definitely a solid build!

There is a slight wiggle, that because the D-Pad is a rubber pad without any support from the panel like in usual phones, so theres got to be that little bit play. Dont worry the worst that could happen is a bit of dust can get under it
I have a bit of a question myself . has anybody noticed the center portion of the touch screen is "softer" than the bottom. You can notice this if you hold thescreen at an angle and sloly press it with the stylus, it sort of goes in an mm or so. It was the same with my M600i but my Moto ROKR E6 is hard like a normal hard screen, I assume dthe TyTyn should be like that.
I bought my phone in SIngapore and I live in India, no service for the TyTyn2 here cause it has'nt been released, I'm just praying nothing happens to it. If you require parts you can always try www.cnn.cn, they have'nt got the TyTyn2 parts yet but will shortly. A cooked rom does void the warranty. Your phone can be replaced 15 days within your purchase date after which they will only repair it. I dont trust service centers, they throw in any damn used part(I know this cause I've worked in one ) I prefer doing it myself
Thanks for the info. I'm over the 15 days now and your right I don't wan't the service center to touch my phone. We'll see how it fares after a couple of months
I think all the people who say that they've never had a problem with their phone don't quite understand the original post. When you compare one Tilt to another, one 8125 to another, etc. the level of variation that HTC allows to roll off the assembly line is in general much greater than other phone makers. If you've never had a problem and only have had one device of a particular type, you don't really have anything to judge that variation by, unless you compare it to friends' phones.
As for myself, I had 2 8525's. I noticed that when I threw them against a wall, one continued to work and the other one shattered. Very poor quality control as far as I'm concerned. j/k
Seriously, I noticed that the sliding mechanism wobbled a lot more on the first one than it did on the second.
well after countless complaining att has agreed to replace my tilt which i have problems with.. they are sending me a brand new kit.. i hope that this will be a good kit because im sick of having problems with the tilt.. i love the phone but damn the quality isnt as strong as the 8525.. Blowfish64.. you are correct people arent quite understanding the orginal post.. because of these quality control issues id NEVER order a htc device off ebay because u cant return it... luckly with att/tmobile/sprint/altell/verizon you can call in to exchange dept and complain and usually they will send you a replacement model which is nice.. i understand htc is a HUGE company and probaly doesnt care about some tiny issues with their phones but i as a consumer who is spending hundreds of dollars DOES CARE and i have every right to be picky.. you guys mean to tell me if u spent 700$ on the tytnII and the keyboard buttons werent straight or evenly lit you wouldnt complain? i seriously find that hard to believe..

I guess nothing can satisfy you ??
Quality Issues
I agree with the quality control issues. I recently had my original tilt stolen, unfortunately, and purchased another one. There are several differences in the feel of the same phone from one to another. The slide mechanism, D-pad, and keyboard all feel noticeably different.
Unfortunately, this second one has a distinct looseness in the sliding mechanism which when put under vibrate makes a distinct sound of cheapness. I will be calling ATT tomorrow to see if they will exchange for a new one.
Don't get me wrong, I love the phone, but given how much I had to pay a second, I want it to be good.
HTC QC = C+

I'm disgusted...

I don't want to sit here and ***** but I need to let some of this off my chest.
My gf bought me a brand new diamond from the Europe (no proof of purchase).
Now I'm not totally concerned with the battery life, speaker volume, in-call volume, etc as I know tweaks will show up for this phone slowly slowly.
My main concern that is KILLING me and I'm afraid I can't do anything about it is my screen. Its crystal clear, but I seem to have two spots at the bottom of the screen that turn yellowish on a white screen and whitish on a black screen?
Is it safe to assume I got a faulty unit and I'm pretty much stuck with it?
I'm honestly extremely furious with this, and they are not that visible unless im on certain screens but knowing that they exist simply kills me.
I have attached a picture which should give you a decent example of how it looks. Its not that visible with this shot. One blotch right above the HTC logo and the other to the very left of that.

Call HTC service/support they should do an in warranty repair. There is no need for proof of purchase because they can just warranty it off the build date. I had to do this with one of my Tilts, did not have a receipt but they repaired it under warranty for free based off the build date. It did take 2 weeks for the whole process though.
Jeff
HI,
The battery life and other tweaks are already around and they have a made a massive difference to my diamond. (latest UK rom and a few tweaks)
You should not be stuck with it... have you called HTC ? how come you have no proof of purchase ? Even so you should still be able to contact HTC give them the serial number and be able to send it back. You may have to wait while it is fixed but hey its worth it.
The only other option is to buy a new screen (about £70) and fit yourself.
I can see how it would bug you just knowing the screen issue is there, but i am sure you are not the only person to have a fault, these things do happen.
I would be interested to hear what HTC have to say.

Since youve got this device early in its life (WAAAAAAAY under a year) get in contact with HTC and they will probably just ask for the serial number from under the cover.
I returned my TyTN after around 2 months to get the screen alignment issue fixed, they didnt ask for proof of purchase even though I had it etc....so wasnt a problem.
Had this been a year later then it might be a different story
Get onto HTC about it....and be calm with them remember this sort of thing always happens with consumer electronics it is nothing personal.
No it's not very visible!
Do you need proof of purchase for a repair? It's not like it could be out of it's warranty. If you do then contact the retailer or get a bank statement.
You're not alone though. I have a small guy inside mine waving a torch at me just above the home key. He's a little sh*t, but I'm the bigger person so choose to ignore him.
I have to agree with these guys. I'm on my 3rd or 4th HTC product and I'm here to tell you that their service is SECOND TO NONE.
They are one of the few companies if you call their customer service, they actually answer the phone, speak english and resolve your problem without putting you on hold.
Call them, you shouldn't have any issues.
Mark
Wow, I already feel so much better. I mean i was so hyped up with the VGA screen with this phone but it did let me down. I hope HTC acknowledge this problem and fix it for me.
I had initially contacted HTC America for repairs and they told me to call Europe. I did but they were closed. I sent out an email to HTC europe and I'm waiting for a response. Maybe it's better if I pick up the phone and call them in person?
I will report tomorrow if anything happens in regards to this topic.
UPDATE:
I contacted HTC America and told them about my problem, and to my surprise they were extremely helpful thus far and are taking my phone in for repair.
They asked where the phone was purchased and I told them, but did not ask for a proof of purchase.
I will be sending it out tomorrow and hopefully receive it back in 2 weeks time maximum. After that, let the modding begin
+1 for HTC support - really great service.
EDIT:
Forgot to mention; First person I talked to was not able to help me out and told me to contact HTC Europe. Hung up the phone and called again and I went right through

some muppets do occasionally escape form jim hensons workshop!
Had to send mine in for repair due to the earpiece speaker had an annoying buzz at medium to high levels. Called HTC UK, told them the problem, they said they can repair it no problem, they sent an UPS delivery driver to collect my phone from my house. They received it next day.
Took about 10 days in repair but came back today well packed in a small box, gave it a good test and it now works perfectly .
When I received it back they left the test rom, radio and boot screen on it and wiped the internal storage. Made a backup before I sent it though .
First repair I have sent to HTC as usually all my HTC phones I have are through Orange UK and if I have any faults, they send out a replacement handset in less than 24hrs to the door, driver gives me new phone and I give them the faulty one .
For excellent customer service I give HTC a 10 out of 10
So maybe I should wait a couple more weeks before I send it in. Then there is a possibility of a replacement with a working US 3G version

Touchscreen in Landscape Mode

Hi all
I am facing a problem for which I could not find sufficient material/ solution. My X1 was working fine and awesome. But one day I noticed that my touchscreen is not working in Landscape mode when I open QWERTY board. Once I close the QWERTY board, the screen will return to the portrait mode and starts responding to the touch. If I am browsing in portrait mode and then select the option for "Landscape" mode without opening QWERTY board, it is still working fine. It only does not work when I slide out the keypad.
One more thing, when I slide out the key pad and close again, my screen alignment also gets disturbed most of the times and I have to align screen. This all happened before upgrade, so we cannot blame upgrade also.
Please help me out as it really feels bad to not to use keypad and screen simultaneously.
Any help will be cordially appreciated.
Regards
Gajendra
HEY!!
I actually experienced the EXACT same problem half a year ago. Definitely it is a hardware problem!! Screen do not respond to the touchscreen only when keyboard is out and that screen alignment is always out afterwards. My alignment was out when that happened and I cannot even press on the start button as it does not respond to the wrong alignment. Because of the screen, my microphone was screwed up as well, people on the other side of the line sometimes will not be able to hear what I am saying during a phone call at all.
I send it in to SE Canada and they fixed 5 different items on my phone within 10 days!!
Items they fixed (for reference):
Conductive Fabric Display
EMI Gasket
Rigid Flex PCB Assy
Conductive Fabric Rigid Flex P
BtB Connector
Do not know what these things are but they fixed my phone and the screen is all good now.
Cheers,
@Eric
Hey Eric
Thanks for your reply. Would you mind telling me the cost that you incurred in the process?
If it is a hardware problem, then there is nothing that I can do. I will also have to go for it.
Please do revert.

Cost? I assume you got your warranty left, since it hasn't even been 2 years since the X1 launched?
Just restore Stock ROM and Stock SPL and send it in.
@Noon
Hi Noon
Thanks for your response. I have purchased this handset from Singapore and currently I am in Miami. I am not sure if the warranty is international. That is the reason I was asking about the cost. I bought it in Feb'08.
I am not much of a geek and hence did not understand about the restore that you mentioned. Is it something like hard reset to get the factory settings??? I have recently upgraded my phone through SE website.
Thanks for your understanding.
Regards
Gajendra
I had exactly this problem!
The problem is the flex cable, which has worn out, and so short circuits itself when you slide open the phone!
u either, send it in for warranty repair, or repair it yourself, a bit fiddly but if you don't have warranty, your only option.
Its a COMPLETELY HARDWARE problem, no amount of software could fix this
and if you've only ever flashed with Sony Ericsson Update, then there is absolutely no need to restore anything! just send it in for repair
Should be ~$50 USD
@Jonny & Samurai
Thanks buddies!!
I really appreciate your responses.
Regards
Gajendra
when i sent mine in to get fixed it was free! under warrenty!
all i had to pay for was the postage to the nearest SE service centre!
As other have said, I fixed it under warranty so it was free beside the postage that I had to pay. I do believe warranty is international as my x1 is x1i and I get warranty coverage in Canada, which only sells x1a.
But I don't know if its 1 yr or 2 yr warranty?!?! I checked my repair receipt and it says 1 year, so I don't know!!
Anywayz, good luck on the repair!!!

1st of all, sorry, no need to restore anything, i just assumed you had a custom ROM.
2nd; feb'08? uhm, do you mean '09 or did you get your X1 ½ year ahead of us? ;P
You could send it in directly to Sony for only the postage cost.
If you meant feb'09 your 1year standard warranty has probably run out... but there's this rule/law about manufactauring errors ( at least in Sweden) if your ( electronical) device stop working due to production error (which this clearly is, among other usual X1 related problems) within 2 years time, the producer is still responsible to repair/replace your device!
I hope it works out for you, good luck =)

Note 2 s-pen button missing

Pulled the s-pen out and the button was missing (see pic)
Have no idea how i lost it and there is no damage.
Is this a known issue?
This should be a warranty replacement from Samsung or sprint, i would think
Going to sprint store in the morning where i bought it, 36 days ago, to see
what they say.
You probably applied too much pressure using ur finger nail on the edge of the button causing it to pop out and fall without you noticing, but as far as I've noticed the button is very sturdy so maybe it's the manufacturer's fault, hopefully they'll replace it for you
Same thing happened to me.. Pulled it out and the button was missing... No idea when or where it fell off... Sooo pissed right now.

I was able to pop mine out when doing the tap, tap, tap trick on a hard surface to fix the sensitive calibration problem. I can see it popping out if dropped or smacked just right. I did take off the cover prior to tweak the calibration and it might have weaken it but it holds.
try to waranty on samsung service center
Hasn't happen to me but I was recently using Sketchbook on my note 2 and notice that button has loosen a little since using the pen a lot.
i dropped it from probably 1 feet and the button came off , but later was able to find it in case if you find it you can snap back it on but its hard to find even when you know where you dropped it , samsung's flimsy quality
From the image, it looks like you have pried it out before?
As if you took a flat-head to it and cut into the case of the pen. If you are trying to get a warranty replacement, I wouldn't send this image. They'd probably shoot you down in seconds.
For everyone here that has had the button fall off at some point, have you taken the button off before?

in my case it went off after falling never tried to remove it deliberately , in case if you find it you can just snap it on
I went to verizon for same exact reason. They said to call Samsung because they have no
Replacements. I called Samsung and got the full run around. First guy told me to hard rest my phone. After 5 times
Of me strongly telling him to listen to me. I asked him why I was needing to reset my phone? Will my
Button magically re appear on my s pen? He said yes it will fix my issue by restiing the settings
To factory!!! I asked for a manager at that point. This new guy told me to mail in my pen for a.replacement.
I asked him why becaus its under warranty why verizon couldnt do it. He then said I would most
Likely not get a replacement because it would be listed as user
Breakage. I asked for a new manager and this guy flat out told me I would never see a
Warranty replacement on it because its an accessory to the phone and I would either
Be asked to pay $76.13 for labor or $30 to buy a new one. He also said I would not get my old one because they
Dont return broken items.
I asked him what good would it be for me to have 2 pens if I were trying to pull a fast one. He said I might be ambidextrous and use both
At the same time. At this point I wanted to jump through the phone and ring his neck. The entire time he was snifling like a tough guy saying he was sorry but was going to do nothing. Even though my phone is 6 weeks old to me..
Samsung has the worth CS. and can give a rats ass about you.
He then reminded me that on any samsung device. If a moveable part
Anywhere on a phone breaks or falls off it is automatically put in the system and user damaged and all warranties
Are gone for that replacement......
I am selling this device as soon as I can and will continue to tell my story on how bad they are and how they feel they can treat people.
That's a very interesting story, and the experiences I've had with a multitude a CS, it all comes down to the individual.
Keep calling and complaining, should have gotten a name or some forms of ID to report that imbecile.
Hahaha. If you want to see bad cs go call asus! Most anyone with a tf201 will know what I mean
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda premium
Sorry for the bad typing. It was late and I was pissed....
I do have their names and will be pushing this up the chain as far as I can get it.
I got a hold of a Verizon rep and told him the situation and he too seemed annoyed that
Samsung said what they said. He offered to send me out a replacement S Pen and not just the button.
However, its color wont match my phone but at this point what can I do? I need my S Pen to function the way
I have become accustomed to.
It is a sad day when bigger companies hold you hostage like that. Telling me I will never see a replacement from them
Also if you own a Samsung device. Just know (according to the rep) any moving part on a samsung device. Buttons or home keys
S pens etc.. Should they lose that part even if it simply is defective will never be covered because they will deem it as user breakage.
I think this will be my last Samsung device. Not because it broke. Because the way they treat people. I had 3 reps back to back act like fools and
I just cant deal with that....
So what if the pen isnt under warranty. Just pay the $30 to replace your defective pen lol.

An exact replacement is all of 20 bucks on Amazon.
If you keep speaking to reps in absolutes of "you all are holding me hostage!!!111panic" you aren't going to get the best of responses.
If I were you I'd go ahead and buy a replacement, but also pursue this with other customer service reps through Verizon or whomever you purchased the phone through. But if this "will be your last Samsung device" then forget about pushing it.
Saw them for $10 - $15 for a new authentic OEM S Pen on eBay. Seriously, just buy one to put back in. Then get another pen. S Pen is horrible anyway. Luckily, I've horded a couple in each color just in case.

Motherboard (Daughter-board) Replacement

Hello.
I have to change the small motherboard, or like I see it also called daughter-board, because phone vibration stopped working and even changing the motor didn't work.
My board is with number 50H10209-02M-A (2012-12-21). But I found that there's also the same board with number 50H10209-32M-A (2012-12-21) which I can get a little cheaper. Do you know if there is any difference and if I can buy 50H10209-32M-A or I have to stick with 50H10209-02M-A?
I tried to find information in Internet but nothing...
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

get the same one or else this will happen, (http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one/help/phone-rebooting-loop-replacement-t3442504#post68312039) do you have an unlocked model?
Oh noes....my volume down switch went bad so I just blindly ordered a daughter board from eBay
(no part numbers given on listing, lulling me into a "they are all the same" attitude)
What are the chances I got the wrong one and am no closer to getting it 100% working??
It arrived today but I am not going to attempt fitting it yet or comparing part numbers as I am still waiting on a new screen/digitizer to arrive from China/ HK
The fewer times I have it open the fewer chances of screwing it up
Not having a working volume down I suppose I can live with in a worst case scenario
(this phone is NOT for me and the new owner - My Mrs - is not going to go anywhere near recovery/fastboot/bootloader and is currently back to stock and having it jammed on full volume /may/ mean she will actually hear the phone ringing and increases the chances of her picking it up!)
Regards
Rob
Sure enough, the board I ordered - despite the image of the 50H10209-02M-A board the seller sent me a 50H10209-32M-A
He wants me to send it back to China before a refund is given (at my cost)
As I only paid £7 for the board I guess I'm stuck with it and out of pocket as postage would likely be more than that
The screen also arrived and works great - but the LED's under home and back button have been stuck down wrong - so the LED's don't light the buttons by the HTC logo... but put an annoying glaring white light into the screens corner :/
Seller asked if a partial refund would make me happy which I just replied yes to
A whole £1 refund was waiting for me when I got home...sigh
There's a lesson to be learned here but I'm 100% sure I will get bitten a few more times before I put principals before the wallet
Off to find ways of disabling the home and back LED before it drives me round the twist
Regards
Rob
