Is this possible and how?
There's a tool called "ddms" in the android SDK that will allow you to take screenshots. The phone has to be plugged into the computer to do it but that doesn't really bother me.
I searched but couldn't find a free app (that worked) and was too cheap to buy a paid app for it...
As far as I could find there is NO built in way to take a screenshot on this phone.
Not built in anything but ics and developed custom ROMs like CM and MIUI

Hi there
Us there a screenshot app that will work with my device? Its not unlocked or rooted (its just a stock device)
Cheers!

Your device must be rooted to make screenshot on the device itself.
The only way to make screenshots without root is the Android-SDK.
Here is a tutorial
I don't know any other method.

Root procedure is done in a few minutes. Then install 'ShootMe' (available in Market) and you can take screenshots when you shake your phone.

What exactly is rooting and what does it do? Is it the same as unlocking the device? How do I do it?
What are the upsides and downsides to rooting?
Thanks!

If you root your device, you have access to the root partition of your phone. You can change whatever you want.
I don't know any downside

Yup, this is exactly why I rooted my Nexus. No more ads and ShootMe is great!!!
Can't find ShootMe in the market.. has it been removed ?
Download "No Root Screenshot It" from the Market. Its $4.99 but its the only way that you can take screenshots without root.

that never worked for me. it's a total waste of money imo. just use the sdk. it's super easy if you don't want to root

I was talking about no root screenshot it lol. I found it much easier to just use the sdk for screenshots, plus both of those require root so they don't really help the op
I think for the best quality use ddms. If you have SDK installed plug your phone in, open command prompt and type
ddms
Then device> screen capture

This worked way better than trying to root my phone.
I had some issues earlier in the day trying to figure out why my DDMS wouldn't work and since I've been using Eclipse, this tutorial worked WAY better and faster. I didn't have anything to install, just didn't know how to get to it within Eclipse. Now I do.
Now if only I knew how to "thank" this post..... (Yeah, I'm a Noob.)
I actually made a youtube video about this last week for Mac users.
Feel free to check it out right here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xukmq35oIbk
Make sure you watch it in HD for better quality.
The youtube video converter is a mess!
Is there a way to turn on app ads in a custom rom or at least for one app? There is an app that I have that in order to become a full version, one has to click on an ad. However, because I am running a custom rom, continuum to be exact, the ad will not pop up. Can this be achieved? Of course if the only way for this is to work is to use a custom rom or stock rom that allows ads permanently then I doubt it is worth it.

Same question has already been asked, please use search next time before you post.
Thank you and sorry. The XDA app does not have I good search function, and I didn't have access to a computer at the time.

The new android market has got an update. It now includes an option to +1 apps and the ability to pin lock for safer purchasing. You need to enter that pin everytime you make a purchase.
Cool,right?
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App
I downloaded the APK yesterday, and I'm a big fan of the PIN-lock. I feel better knowing that nobody could purchase a bunch of apps in the event that I lost my phone somewhere.
Does anyone have an update package of the new version? Can't install the apk.
Sent from my Milestone using XDA Premium App
Yeah well, why not just use a PIN on your lockscreen? Otherwise someone could also use your phone to call up phone-xxx lines for 3.99/min (;
Anybody please post that link.
thanks.

Hey guys I just got my thrill today. I don't know if there is any rom's currently able to run on this device but I do have the source code downloaded and plan on trying to create a rom but has there been a full back method found yet like tegra2 devices have nvflash?
Best of luck. Waiting for it.

You can make nandroid backups available through CWM, check out designgear's thread
Edit: Oh yeah, and my suggestion for a ROM? I would love a ROM that comes debloated, deodexed and zip aligned (just for easier theming - that does make theming / sharing themes easier, right?), has the speed tweeks/optimizations available for the Optimus 3D, obviously AT&T radio, and if I can dream a little, several more preinstalled fonts, LP or a psuedo gingerbready launcher, and some light theming with some matching backgrounds* and a matching bootup animation. A kernel that allows for OC would be nice to have I guess, but I can't imagine using it to be honest; the battery life is so bad already.
Good luck!
*If you know what colors you're using, I'd be happy to find or create matching backgrounds and/or a boot animation if you want.
If Possible and a big IF considering I have yet to see a device not HTC Branded that uses Sense but Would love to see a sense type Rom IF possible. Also would love an OC kernel considering battery isn't really an issue for me considering I am Always by a power source, that and I sit at home all day lol. Even if I didn't I would probably Underclock and Undervolt for battery Life than OC at night when I got home and wanted to do stuff on the phone.
I am looking through everything for the LG Optimus and I'm scouring the Texas Instruments site to see if I can find something there.
call recording funtion
can you add call recording funtion on your rom ?
I think that was already responded to. But from my understanding its too much work so get a 3rd party app

HEHE yes thank you so so much
I was able to get it to work most of the way but missing the .dll file for the p925 instead of p920 and I can't get the stupid flashtool it provides to even startup on my pc. I'm on win 7. I'm going to harrass the hell out of LG and see if I can pull some kind of info from them
I recently installed the Omni 4.4.2 20140306-tolte-NIGHTLY on my Tmo GN2 because I need the Bluetooth tethering option. However, I need Samsung Hub so I can install gear manager on my phone. I tried installing the apk file with no success. Can someone please help?
Sent from my T0LTE using xda app-developers app
I'd bet this is yet another case of Samsung designing software to break on anything than their own firmware.
Most likely. I've read that as long as I have a deodexed international custom ROM, I can make it work. The international ROM gives me the Bluetooth tethering option I need and a deidexed version skies me to install Samsung apps.

The whole point of many people working on projects such as Cyanogenmod and Omni on Samsung devices is to remove all of Samsung's bloatcrap.
In the case of Gear - Why would anyone purchase it when there are cheaper and better options that are fully compatible with all Android devices instead of Samsung's restricted bull****?
It's utterly stupid that the Gear, which (given all of its onboard processing resources) should be able to operate in a more standalone fashion than any of the other smartwatches out there is, instead, the MOST dependent on its host device!
I appreciate the feedback. When I purchased the Galaxy Gear, I guess I assumed I could make it do what I wanted to do since we all pretty much have those capabilities when it comes to rooting and third party custom ROMs. I'm sure there is another way, a back door, if you will to get through installing gear manager. My first thought was to find the APK file and install it that way, but the procedures I've tried doesn't seem to work. If there isn't a way yet, then this is something for the techies to try and sort out.

I think I might've found it, but I can't verify because I don't have my gear with me, but I searched aptoide, found gear manager and installed it to my phone. I'll reply later if this works with my device.

No luck. Back to square one. The application downloaded and installed and even paired to my device, but nothing else showed up on my gear.
