Hi all,
I just installed CM9 Alpha 2 on my TP (finally!) and so far I am loving it. However, I'm having issues with WhatsApp saying
Alert
We can't identify your device. Please turn off the phone, take out the battery, restart it and try it again.
Note: tablets are currently not supported.

However, some people with the Xoom tablet (and other tablets) can actually run WhatsApp. I dunno if they hacked the app or something but I've seen reports that it actually works on a tablet. I researched that they just downloaded the app directly from Whatsapp, not from the market. I've done that already and still have the problem.
Is there a way to fix this issue?
Thanks
For tablets without 3g function (wifi only) I have discovered the only way to use Whatsapp on such a device is as followed:
1. Grab your normal phone
2. Use Titanium Backup and Backup your current Whatsapp.apk and data
3. Install Whatsapp (download from the site f.e) on your tab but don't open the app yet.
4. Transfer backed up data to your tab in a (newly made) folder called TitaniumBackup
5. Open TB and scroll to Whatsapp and restore data.
6.Open Whatsapp now and you have Whatsapp running on your tab.
Make sure you have opened up a few conversations with the people you want chat with so those conversations are there.
Disadvantage is when you open Whatsapp on your phone again, it won't show the chats you have on your tab and vice versa.
Good luck

EDIT: But my phone stops receiving Whatsapp messages anymore. You can only use one at a time. I was hoping that atleast both devices will receive messages.

I actually might have to register a different phone number with this one so I can use individually. But it was great that you showed me how to make it work
Go phone sim card FTW!

Yeah I know, had mentioned that in my post unfortunately
Good idea is indeed to buy a random SIM card, place it, register and open up all the chats with people you want to chat with and transfer data at least that number will be registered and rdy to use on your tab, good luck!

So, if you own an iPhone, are out of luck to get this running on the touchpad?
i think so cuz the titanium backup file carries our phone numbers and our stored chats....don't want you using our numbers lol but hey you could put ur sim into a friend's rooted android phone and register the whatsapp through there....and then take that backup file to your touchpad

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately I don't have access to an android phone on my network (my gf has android on Verizon, I have att so that's a no go). I guess I'll have to wait for whatsapp to approve tablets.

Here are two ways to get the WhatsApp to work:
1- Using MyBackup pro:
Q80 said:
Pre-reqs:
-An android cell phone who has already an activated WhatsApp.
-"Root Explorer" app on both the Xoom and cell phone.
-"MyBackup Pro" app on both devices.
Steps:
1- Open "MyBackup Pro" app on your cell phone> Choose "Backup"> Then "Applications & Media" >then "Local (/mnt/sdcard)" > Open "Apps" list> choose" WhatsApp(.." and press ok> It will show you the backup name .. change it if you would like or press ok > Asks you for the type of backup .. choose "APKs+DATA"> Wait till it says "Done".
2- Open Root explorer on your cell phone> Go to (mnt/sdcard/) then copy the "rerware" folder and paste it in your sdcard> Unmount your sdcard and mount it to your Xoom.
3- Open Root explorer on your Xoom> Copy the folder that you have pasted in your sdcard before and paste it in (mnt/sdcard).
4- Open "MyBackup pro" app on your Xoom > Choose "Restore" > Then "Applications & Media" >then "Local (/mnt/sdcard)"> Choose your backup file name> wait till it says "Done".
5- Reboot and enjoy!

2- Using TB (Thanks to mickliq):
mickliq said:
Pretty simple using TB:
Selected Whatsapp as application backup under TB on my SGSII
It created 3 files under sdcard/TitaniumBackup
Sent the 3 files via Bluetooth to my Xoom (they ended up in sdcard/downloads)
moved 3 files to sdcard/TitaniumBackup from sdcard/downloads on the Xoom
Ran TB on Xoom
Selected "Restore Missing Apps+Data" (in this case only Whatsapp showed up since it's the only app sitting in the TB folder)
Launched Whatsapp
That's it.

Issues:
Contact names do not show up permanently on Xoom's WhatsApp.
Only numbers of contacts that you previously chatted with on your phone's WhatsApp will show up.
Temporary Solution:
1- Hold your finger on the conversation until a menu pops up.
2- Select "Add to Existing Contact"
3- Choose the Google Accounts contact that has the same number.
4- The name will appear as long as you don't close the WhatsApp.
Waiting for any suggestions to solve this issue permanently!
Would also love to have this. Even sideloaded it from my SGS II. Unfortunately, whatsapp relies on an SMS verification when it's loaded on a device, and of course the Xoom Wifi has no SMS. Unless the dev specifically launches a version of the app that works without SMS activation, I'm afraid it doesn't look good.
I've tried pingchat before.....it does work on the xoom though....you need to sideload it.

Hurrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay I've done it!!!
Works great .. but it will cost you $4.99 though.
Look at my first post for more details..
Going to try this using Titanium Backup as I already own it.
EPIC!!! works with Titanium Backup as well. Now if I could only figure out how to sort out the contacts...
Got it working using TB as well (just BT'd over the files). My concern now is I have Whatsapp on two devices. I have a feeling it stopped working on my "phone".
interessting. Would like to have a confirmation that it works on both devices at the same time. Similar to Gtalk. I am also wondering what will happen after an update.
I'm missing whatsapp on WIFI xoom
Great news guys!
would any of you who tried the Titanium Backup way post a detailed steps so that I could post it under the MyBackup way.
Also, I could confirm that the whatsApp on the Xoom would work "separately". This means that it won't work similar to Gtalk.
A great idea is to use it on a google number!
Now I have the whatsApp working on my Google number on my Xoom and the WhatsApp working on my AT&T number on my phone!
So whoever wants to talk to me on my phone would talk to me on my at&t# and whoever wants to talk to me on my xoom would talk to me on my Google#

I am going to try and take the files from a full backup, is this how you did it?
Did you take 3 files across to the xoom?
you answered above as I was asking ;-)
cheers

As from the error that you've got its clear that you might forget to verify your phone number on your phone's whatsapp before you backup the app.
Try to verify it on your cell phone. Then, backup it and restore it on your xoom.
I did that before I did anything with it, I ran the app, sent a couple msgs, backed up, and moved it to the xoom...
I'm really interested in getting this working.. hope someone has an idea on what I'm doing wrong...

Did you copy all the three files that TB creates on the phone and copied them to the xoom? Coz mine is working perfectly fine.
Of course.. I tried several times, but all with no luck, I have to initialize the app, so it will start looking for the phone number and what not...
It does work but whatsapp fails to show the names of my contacts only there phone numbers

You have to restore app first, run it, it will show that message, then close the app and in TB restore just app data and that's it...you will have WhatsApp running... ;-)
Got it working, not bad. Like it was stated earlier though, names do not show up just numbers, wonder if there is a way to fix that?
Howdy people...I'm not sure why, but google seems not to ever want to store my wifi passwords. Stock GB..never worked...CM10 doesn't work. I'm currently running the excellent leaked stock ICS...why does google recover everything else but my passwords? (and yes I have the box ticked to enable backups) is there anyway I can explore my account server to retrieve them? The landlord of local is getting racked off with me asking every time I mess about and install a new ROM! Help much appreciated.
Titanium Backup can do it but I don't know if that's in the free version, you can also just make a .txt and put it on your external sd card.
On cm where is the problem to look into data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf file?
And write down the password? LoL...

same here, I use Titanium Backup (pro)
for me it used to work on CM7
but it didn't on the experimental CM9 builds or on CM10
I did sometimes, isn't it?
Don't really know why, but it's the same for me with the automatic app recovery after full wipe.
Sometimes they get restored, sometimes not. Same with the WIFI psswds.
It says during initial screens but it never did seems like bug ...
they've never been recovered with me. I've had the phone for 6months or so.. It's a bit of a pain. I keep flashing new roms but you'd have expected them to sync in the same way as with contacts etc! anyway. It would just be great to know whether it's my phone playing up or my Google account. It has to be one of the two... I'm guessing ill never know as it seems you can't check what is actually stored on the Google server.

Hi all. I upgraded to an HTC One and I need to get my Notes (over 200) to my new phone.
I have the regular "Notes" app that came with a stock 2.3.6 rom I upgraded it too, but I remember the old iterations also having that exact same "Notes" app. I was exporting them one by one to my PC. But figured there should be a better way. I know most backup programs simply don't backup notes.
I also know there's a way to do it via ES-File Explorer with root access, which my phone has. But I don't know what's next. I tried to search the forums and could find much of help.
Thank you very much in advance.

I'm not kidding and these are the proper forums. Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting. The phone I need to save my notes from is a Samsung Galaxy S i9000b. What other forums should I be looking in, androidforums?
Unhelpful and plain jerky people like you are the only problem about being a newbie anywhere. It drives potentially valuable users away from nice and healthy online communities. Seen it quite a bit elsewhere.
Can some moderator or kind user have the amiability to at least point me in the direction where I could fool myself with a vague hope of getting any help, please?
I wouldn't be asking if I could on my own.

Thank you very much for your reply. I've been using Titanium Backup for quite a while as well, but mostly for uninstalling unneeded apps. I don't think the new Notes app is compatible with the old one, so I don't know of how much use would force-copying program's memory file (looks like a single one, unless I don't even know where to look) with Titanium Bk be.
I was thinking of maybe an app that converts those notes to some other or more usable format. Even better if it upgrades them to some other Notes program file. Uploading those notes online wherever could also work. Or perhaps a way to manage those from Kies. If I knew it would had come to this, I would had used any note app from the very beginning...

n start copying again 1 by 1 (really takes my time) so... i m sorry but i dont have any method other that as i dont even know why is it that hard juz to copy a mere notes i listed (d**n samsung app)

The copying the notes part is the one I'm trying to avoid. I did downloaded Colornote and it does looks really sweet.
But I checked and I have 211 notes to copy and would hate to have to do it one by one. So far, the best I've got is a smm file from Kies with all my notes in it. However, I haven't been able to find a single way to open this file in Windows, change its extension or how to export it to any app in Android.

Okay, I digged around settings and stuff for a bit, and under Settings -> Wireles and Network -> Synchronise there is an option to create a profile to sync memos (assumingly the stock memo app obviously). Haven't found this feature until now, so you could try play around with it?

Hey, that actually did helped! Didn't found that option you are telling me about, but found a way to Sync the Notes in the phone with those in Outlook via Samsung Kies (using latest Kies version, 2.5.3.13043_14).
Once that is done, it's pretty much problem solved.
What would come next is to put them online (can be done with Google or several other apps; I used Evernote, as my HTC came with it) and download them to the new phone. Anyone else needing additional details now, in a couple months, or a few years from now, please feel free to send me a PM.
Hey,
I'm looking to swap to Note 7. I've always been accustomed to root and have all my phones backup with Titanium backup. The app allows me to backup all data including the data of each app. I would like to switch to the new Note, but have certain apps which I want to preserve the data for. For example, I used Naver LINE app (chat), Whatsapp, and WeChat which has some chat data which I want to transfer over. With Titanium Backup, I can do this without problem. Will Smart Switch be able to move everything or will it just transfer the app, but I loose the data?
Smart switch has not been able to do this for me. It just copies the app and it takes forever. I have to use helium. But you need to buy the premium version though as the free version is limited.

Do you use LINE? Did helium work?
I need to somehow mimic these steps without root
Fast procedure (requires rooted phones)
If you don't remember your LINE PIN code, now is the last chance to change it, LINE will ask for it after you switch. Even if you never set one, it will ask you so better set it now.
Root both of your Android phones, old and new (absolutely required)
Install Titanium Backup (free) on both phones.
On the old phone, make sure LINE is not running, launch Titanium backup, and backup LINE (App+Data).
Copy the Titanium Backup folder (typically /sdcard/TitaniumBackup/) from your old phone to your new phone. It should contain 3 files or so.
On the new phone, install LINE (don't start it yet), launch Titanium Backup and use it to restore LINE (App+Data).
On the new phone, install Root Browser, and use it to copy /data/data/jp.naver.line.android/databases/naver_line to your /sdcard/, then transfer it to a desktop computer (via ADB or email)
Open this file in SQLiteBrowser, go to the Execute SQL tab.
Type delete from setting; then press the Execute button. Save and exit, then copy the file back to /data/data/jp.naver.line.android/databases/naver_line
Start LINE on the new phone and log in. All of your data will be just like you left it.
This restores your friends, chat history, call logs, groups, groups chat history.

text messaging is different than in chat app like line.
I know Helium Premium will do it without root because I have done it before. It restores all data and apps at the same time. It's a great app and in my opinion its comparable to Titanium. I haven't used it in a long time, but it worked like a charm last time when I used it.
It transferred most everything, I was actually impressed. It didn't do my email account and settings, not my app logins, but everything else was just like my note 5.

I can confirm that the statement above is pretty much correct.
I effectively tried all the transfer methods they have.
1) phone to phone with cable
2) phone to phone via wifi direct connection
3) phone to sdcard to phone via backup to and restore from scard
4) phone to computer to phone via smart switch on a Windows computer

Hi guys, I use this thread to tell you my experience with smart switch.
I thinked that this app can backup all the phone settings and all the apps settings..
But.. not?
I have a Galaxy S8 that i had to reset to factory defaults, I have restored backup hoping that all the settings of phone and apps will be restored.. but it has partially restored settings and only the apps (without the related settings)..
What I can do to backup all the settings from phone and apps to avoid losing one hour to manually restore phone when I reset to default?
Thank you a lot.
so is there any way that we dont have to login in all apps again please?
I'm coming from a rooted, rommed Note 4. I'm used to using Titanium Backup for backup and restore, but obviously, lacking root on the Note 7, that's not an option. I tried Smart Switch, but it isn't transferring the data I really need, like for Signal Messenger or Google Authenticator. Helium (pro) also won't work for these. Am I out of luck?
I also came from a Note 4. I could not get Smart Switch to work using cables as I was instructed on the phone. I went to a TMO store and the tech tried Smart Switch putting both phone on the same wifi network. Then everything transferred fine.
Yeah, I got it to transfer over wireless too, but it didn't transfer the data for certain apps, most crucially, Google Authenticator and Signal Messenger.

Smart Switch wouldn't install on my Nexus 6 from the Play Store, and the cable method wouldn't work either. So, I installed and re- set-up every single app manually. This was before I found out about Helium. Makes you REALLY miss Titanium Backup. But, at least the phone is fresh with fresh installs of everything.
